    In the W3C working draft for HTML5 here's a line I find confusing: http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/introduction.html#html-vs-xhtml Comments that contain the string "--" can be represented in the DOM but not in the HTML syntax or in XML. I can interpret this in two different ways: Comments that contain the string "--" can be represented in XML and in the DOM but not in the HTML syntax Comments that contain the string"--" can be represented in the DOM but neither in the HTML syntax nor in XML. I really find the original formulation highly confusing. Which one does it mean and is it even correct english? Who should I contact if I want to point out that I find such a wording highly confusing and that hence there's a high probability that other non-native english speaker would find this kind of formulation highly confusing too?

  • Customizing scrollable plugin with prevpage and nextpage over the image? (see mock up)

    Hi, I am implementing a scrollable for a portfolio gallery. (scrollable = scrollable plugin from http://flowplayer.org/tools/index.html ) There will be one item visible at a time. By default, scrollable positions the prev/next buttons outside of the image area and clicking on the current image advances the scrollable content. I would like to have the prev/next render within the image area. I would like to have an image caption appear when mousing over the lower part of the image.   • Why does my custom component raise AVs in the IDE?

    I'm trying to write a simple component that will allow you to embed one or more SDL rendering surfaces on a Delphi window, using the SDL 1.3 APIs. It will compile and install just fine, but when I try to use the component in the form designer, it raises AVs whenever I try to access its properties in the object inspector, save the form, or delete the component, and placing one on a form then trying to run gives a linker error: it apparently can't read the DFM properly for whatever reason. The DLL can be found at http://www.libsdl.org/tmp/SDL-1.3-dll.zip and the source code to my component can be downloaded here. SDL.pas is a JEDI-SDL header file; the rest is my own code. I don't see any reason for this to raise AVs in the form designer. If I dynamically create the control at runtime I don't have any stability issues. Can anyone take a look at this and maybe provide some feedback that might help me clear it up?

  • Eclipse and Cassandra

    I've searched various websites for instructions on how to link 'Cassandra' and 'Eclipse' and followed directions to the last detail in several sites. For some reason, while using Git Bash, I cant get through the 'ant build', via instruction in said mentioned locations across the web. In some location's its easy, just make sure you have; 1. Apache Cassandra source 2. Apache Ant 3. Git So, yeah I've downloaded all the above, tried the same directory, different directories, etc., although still unable to get past the middle step of 'ant build'. Here are a few websites I've used to muddle through setting up the Src code for both utilities, 'Eclipse' and 'Cassandra'. http://uisurumadushanka89.blogspot.com/2012/02/apache-cassandra-how-to-setup-source.html and http://wiki.apache.org/cassandra/RunningCassandraInEclipse both resulting in an immediate halt at the 'ant build'. any insights are information is greatly appreciated.   • Using Delphi or FFMpeg to create a movie from image sequence

    Hi all My Delphi app has created a squence called frame_001.png to frame_100.png. I need that to be compiled into a movie clip. I think perhaps the easiest is to call ffmpeg from the command line, according to their documentation: For creating a video from many images: ffmpeg -f image2 -i foo-%03d.jpeg -r 12 -s WxH foo.avi The syntax foo-%03d.jpeg specifies to use a decimal number composed of three digits padded with zeroes to express the sequence number. It is the same syntax supported by the C printf function, but only formats accepting a normal integer are suitable. From: http://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC5 However my files are (lossless) png format, so I have to convert using imagemagick first. My command line is now: ffmpeg.exe -f image2 -i c:\temp\wentelreader\frame_%05d.jpg -r 12 foo.avi But then I get the error: [image2 @ 0x133a7d0]Could not find codec parameters (Video: mjpeg) c:\temp\wentelreader\Frame_C:\VID2EVA\Tools\Mencoder\wentel.bat5d.jpg: could not find codec parameters What am I doing wrong? Alternatively can this be done easily with Delphi?

  • RESTFul, statelesness and sessions

    RESTFul service has a rule that it should be stateless. By beeing that it does not allow a session to be created and maintained by sending a session key between the client and the server and then holding a session state on the server. If i look at the definition in wikipedia of stateless server http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stateless_server "A stateless server is a server that treats each request as an independent transaction that is unrelated to any previous request" It states that it should be unrelated to any previous request. In practice this means that any type of authentication will be comparing the credentials of a user to a state on the server that was created by a previous operation. So a service called login is related to and dependent on the state that has been created by previous requests (ex: create_user and/or change_password). In my view you are breaking statelessnes by doing authentication. My point is that people are complaining about having sessions in RESTFul is breaking statelesness but doing authentication is also breaking the same rule. What do you think?

    I'm a Ubuntu user who is interested in learning OpenGL. I found a page with some samples on it: http://www.opengl.org/resources/code/samples/glut_examples/examples/examples.html but when I try to compile the first one using: cc -o abgr abgr.c -lglut -lGLU -lGL -lXmu -lXext -lX11 -lm I get an error message saying: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXmu collect2: ld returned 1 exit status What is "lXmu"? How do I get this to compile? I'm 15 years old and new to computer programming. Thanks!

    Most sites at least employ server access log checking and banning along with some kind of bot prevention measure like a CAPTCHA (those messed-up text images). The problem with CAPTCHAs is that they poss a threat to the user experience. Luckily they now come with user friendly features like refresh and audio versions. Anyway, like linux vs windows, it isn't worth the time of a spammer to customize and/or build a script to handle a custom CAPTCHA example that only pertains to one site. Therefore, I was wondering if there might be better ways to handle the whole CAPTCHA thing. In A Better CAPTCHA Peter Bromberg mentions that one way would be to convert the image to HTML and display it embedded in the page. On http://shiflett.org/ Chris simply asks users to type his name into an input. Examples like this are ways to simplifying the CAPTCHA experience while decreasing the value for spammers. Does anyone know of more good examples I could use or see any problem with the embedded image idea?

    Hi all If I implement a class in ruby and compile it with jrubyc than it is not possible to call it from a java class directly if I start it with java. If I see this right I have to use org.jruby.embed... to implement a wrapper wich takes a class name and a metod to call my ruby class. Do I have to do this also if I start the application with jruby? In my current project I start java workflow engine completely with jruby. The workflow has to call a method in a ruby class which he cant find.   • Creating a "netbeans property" style dialog box

    Hi I've been trying to create a GUI using netbeans, that includes a dialog similar to Netbean's own "property dialog" that appears when designing. ie. a dialog that contains a table that can be expanded by tree nodes. Something like the dialog on this page, http://platform.netbeans.org/tutorials/nbm-property-editors.html As far as I can understand, the page I linked to describes a custom editor I can set up for use within netbeans while designing - I'm just looking for a way to doing something similar for my actual application I'm writing. Is there an easy way to do this?   • CakePHP 1.3 Plugin Shortcut Route

    Hi, I searched a lot around the web but I couldn't find any specific sollution to this. In CakePHP 1.3, different from 1.2, if you had a controller inside a plugin, and both had the same name, you could access through "<plugin>/<action>", and it would call the 'default' controller. But in 1.3, according to this: http://cakeqs.org/eng/questions/view/setting_up_magic_routes_for_plugins_in_cakephp_1_3 It was removed, and only the 'index' action in the default plugin controller can be accessed this way. I thought about adding extra code in my routes.php file, and loop through all the plugins in my app, making such routes for every action in the controllers named after the plugin, but it doesn't seem like it's the right thing to do... any other suggestions to make this work in 1.3? or at least some very specific code documentation of this particular change? I've already read something in the 1.3.0-RC4 annoucement, but it was not clear enough.. thanks

So, I'm hoping to add a little bit to the knowledge base here. I need to process some files in a directory and need the files to be sorted numerically.     I have a web site that works perfectly fine in IE9 when compatibility mode is turned OFF (the compatibility symbol is gray). When compatibility mode is turned on (blue), the jQuery doesn't work at all.     I am using gcov plugin in Eclipse CDT + cygwin compiler & linker to find code coverage. I installed gcov plugin from http://svn.sourceforge.jp/svnroot/ginkgo/trunk/org.ginko.gcov.update/ location and follow the below link to get coverage of my .c file. I was able to create .gcno and .gcda files. But double clicking on those files, opens the files in eclipse editor. I could not find the gcov editor. Also I couldn't see any code coverage results in my .c file. What is the wrong with my procedure?

    I'm using openldap on Mac OS X Server 10.6 and need to generate a vcard for all the users in a given group. By using the ldapsearch I can list all the memberUid's for all users in that group. I found a perl script (Advanced LDAP Search or ALS) that was written by someone that will generate the vcard easily. ALS can be found here http://www.ldapman.org/tools/als.gz So what I need to do is create a wrapper script (in python or perl) that will effectively loop through the memberUid's and run the ALS command to create the vcard and append it to the file. This command provides the memberUid's: ldapsearch -x -b 'dc=ldap,dc=server,dc=com' '(cn=testgroup)' Then running ALS gives the vcard: als -b dc=ldap,dc=server,dc=com -V uid=aaronh > vcardlist.vcf If it's easier to do this using Perl since ALS is already using it that would be fine. I've done more work in python but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance, Aaron

For some reason onload never called. However if I avoid binding and just put this.ajax.onload = this.onload then onload invoked. How to get binding work?
