    I've decided, for educational purposes, I want to learn a new language every 2 years or so. Which language should I learn first? Why? I'm proficient with C, C# and Java. Other than that, I really haven't done much with any other languages. Thanks! Edit: Thanks to all of those that recommended functional languages. Making the mental switch to a functional language seems hard. How did you overcome your instinct to keep doing things in a procedural manner?

  • Receive data in same order as that of NSOperationQueue

    Hi, I have an NSOperationQueue, in which I keep on adding NSOperation objects that hit server and brings data. Is there a way to store the received data in the order in which they were fired? For example, suppose the A, B and C objects are added in NSOperationQueue in the order ABC. Now each of the three A, B and C will bring data in their corresponding threads. I want to store the results in the same order in an array so that the contents of array becomes "Result A", "Result B" and "Result C". Please provide a solution or a direction towards the right answer for this problems. Thanks Guys Basically, I want to design an autosuggest component which brings data from server (same as in google app), and I thought NSOperationQueue to be the best method to implement this. Currently I set the maxConcurrentOperationCount to 1, but I want to set it to more than 1, as data comes from the server very slowly. I wonder how would you approach the opposite problem: splitting coma delimited string into rows of data: Lets say I have tables: userTypedTags(userID,commaSeparatedTags) 'one entry per user tags(tagID,name) And want to insert data into table userTag(userID,tagID) 'multiple entries per user Inspired by Which tags are not in the database? question EDIT Thanks for the answers, actually more then one deserves to be accepted but I can only pick one, and the solution presented by Cade Roux with recursions seems pretty clean to me. It works on SQL Server 2005 and above. For earlier version of SQL Server the solution provided by miies can be used. For working with text data type wcm answer will be helpful. Thanks again.

  • Using MS Moles with datacontext and stored procedures without using a Connection string.

    I have just begun to work with MS Moles for testing and I have followed the idea/pattern in which jcollum(thanks) uses a Mole for a table in this stackoverflow question here. But I am having a problem as I do not want to have to pass a connection string when I use the datasource as such: using (TheDataContext dataContext = new TheDataContext(myConnectionString)) { dataContext.ExecuteStoredprocedure(value, ref ValueExists); } I really like the fact that I just need to mole the table and everything else is done for me. I realize I could just mole the ExecuteStoredProcedure method, but I am wondering if I could just somehow avoid the sql exception I am getting here when I do not pass in the connection string. Or, if I there is a better way to do this? Therefore, does anyone have a solution so that I can avoid placing in the connection string? Thanks in advance.

    Hi, I need a Javascript random number shuffler for my website. Seems simple, but I can not figure out how to do it. Can anyone help me out? I have the following array of numbers: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 I would like to be able to have these numbers shuffled randomly. Like the following: 3 6 4 2 9 5 1 8 7 or 4 1 7 3 5 9 2 6 8 So, specifically, I would like a function that takes in an array of numbers (1 - n) and then returns that same array of numbers - shuffled randomly with different calls to the function. Maybe a noob function, but can't seem to figure it out. Thanks! NOTE: Thanks for the clarification on "Shuffle". Have found a lot more online about this with that term.

  • jQuery preventDefault stops rest of code working

    I have this code where I am using jQuery to navigate to the next page, because I want some effects to take place before that happens. The problem is, that everything after the prevent.Default(); doesn't seem to work! $("a").click(function(event){ event.preventDefault(); $(".content-center").animate({height: "0px"}, 500); navigate($(this).attr('href')); }); I need things to happen in that order, so that the animation happens and once it's complete - load the next page...   • Java ServerSocket Multiple Listen Instances

    i have a java game app that uses sockets to communicate with each other. the issue is when i do a socket listen (server), i can run another instance of the game on the same machine using the same port as before to listen, and it results in listening again. now i have two instances of the application both listening on the same port. you can imagine only one connects when a connection comes through. the question is: how do i prevent the app from listening on the same port as another instance is already listening to? thanks in advance. EDIT: serverSocket = new ServerSocket(serverPort, backlog); im using this. should i try to use: ServerSocket(int port, int backlog, InetAddress bindAddr) instead? EDIT: SOLVED! i did not handle the exception only trapped it. now it is working well. thanks for your inputs.

  • Tableview lags, and glitches while scrolling due to images loading in each cell

    Hey Guys! Me again! Can someone provide me with some example code of how to properly load images in a tablecell without making the tableview glitch while scrolling. For example if you look at fandago's app, when scrolling through their movies you can see that the image is loaded asynchronously so that the scroll isnt jumping, lagging, or glitchy. Thanks in advance. Right now I have the images loading just fine but it is glitchy as i scroll because the images are loading on main thread. I am creating an app very similar to fandango. PS I am downloading these images via xml. (you know what i mean) Thanks!!
