• Lynksys WRT120N wireless router not connecting to ADSL

  I have a lynksys WRT120N wireless router that was connected to Sterlite ADSL modem. The internet connection was working fine through wireless access. I changed the ADSL router because it developed some power issues and got it replaced with the same model/brand from the service provider. However I am not able to access internet now. Here is the current setting Sterlite SAM300 XA IP Address: 192.168.2.1 (I changed it to this IP because the IP address of my ADSL router was same) Lynksys WRT120N wireless router IP Address: 192.168.1.1 If I connect my laptop to ADSL router directly, the internet works fine. It is only that that if I access it wirelessley through wireless router that I am not able to connect to internet. The IP address setting has been configured to obtain IP address automatically. I have windows 7 OS home edition. Could someone please help me to fix this issue.

• Windows Internet Connection sharing with Mobile Broadband

  Due to circumstances, I have only got mobile broadband where I am living. I have a small network with a ADSL Router (but which isn't connected to the Internet. I want to use ICS to allow one machine (with the MBB modem) to act as the Internet interface and allow other machines connected to the ADSL router (including a new Android tablet by WiFi) to use the single mobile broadband connection. I've a feeling that my configuration is not valid - as it stands, but I'm not sure. Can some kind soul lead me "by the nose" to getting this working? • Unable to ping between subnets and out to internet

  My setup is Modem - Linksys router - Laptop with 2 devices (wlan0/eth0) - desktop machine Router is 192.168.1.1 gateway to the internet Laptop wlan0 is 192.168.1.4 with a gw of 192.168.1.1 Laptop eth0 is 192.168.2.254 which acts as a second gateway desktop is 192.168.2.100 On laptop i've setup ip_forward to 1, and have inserted 2 iptables rules -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o wlan0 -j ACCEPT -A FORWARD -i wlan0 -o eth0 -j ACCEPT The laptop can ping outside the network (i,e, yahoo.com) it can not ping 192.168.2.100. The desktop can ping 192.168.2.254 but nothing outside the network or 192.168.1.0 subnet. On laptop ip route show lists: 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.254 192.168.1.0/24 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.4 127.0.0.0/8 dev lo scope link default via 192.168.1.1 dev wlan0 What am I missing to make my desktop go through the laptop in order to access the router which provides access to the internet? • Unable to connect to sharedfax error

  I'm running SBS2k on a machine with a 56k modem for all outgoing faxes. We have a terminal server running server 2003 enterprise and in printers the sharedfax shows "unable to connect status". When you right-click, properties, it gives you an error saying the spool service is not running and you cannot view properties. The spooler service is indeed running on the 2k3 server because I can view the other printer's properties..and on 2k I show the Microsoft Shared Fax service AND Print Spooler as started. Here's the tricky part, I can add the shared fax printer on a domain computer locally (Windows XP) and it will show ready status and I can send faxes, they show up on the 2k server's fax console manager as in progress. I've sent a couple from a few different workstations today successfully, but still unable to send from 2k3 terminal services.

• Can I use my Belkin router as a repeater?

  I've got a brand new, unopened Belkin N600 DB router (yay 50% off sale), and I can't seem to figure out if I can use it as a repeater. As far as I can tell, it doesn't support DD-WRT or Tomato, but I'm wondering if there may be some way to rig it up to repeat Wifi. Also, I really need to know before I open it, because, being a bit tight on money at the moment, I'll probably sell it if I can't use it as a repeater. Finally, two caveats: I can't use the other wireless router for anything other than broadcasting straight from the modem (parents are paranoid about anything technological). I can't run ethernet to the second router due to the layout of the house. Thanks so much for the help everyone--if I'm being vague, tell me! EDIT: Also, the manual here is pretty useless on this topic as far as I can tell.

  Currently I have a 2mb/s ADSL connection. I signed up for the service more than five years ago. Has technology improved much during that time to allow for greater speed using the same wires? The building I live in is quite old and the lines aren't very good. They weren't able to support 6mb/s service back then. Now I notice that the lowest speed offered by my telco is 10mb/s. • (Windows 7) Dial Up Connection Locks up the Networking Service

  I connect to the internet by using my cell phone as a dial up modem. (shh, don't tell my service provider) The connection is usually seamless and the speed is good (150kbps) but occasionally, the connection will get terminated by either the phone or the network, I'm not sure which and then Windows7 stubbornly doesn't acknowledge that the connection is dead so I can re-dial. I have tried to manually kill the connection, but then anything related to the network service refuses to open and the connection is still there. No "Network and Sharing Center", "Network Devices" and often the tray menu will refuse to pop open. The only way I have found to clear the problem is a full restart which. Logging off doesn't work and I haven't been able to find the service that is frozen. If anyone knows how to fix this or prevent this from happening or even how to go about troubleshooting I would be very grateful. ps. This problem is non-existant when tethering in linux on the same machine. (Ubunutu 9 and JoliOS)

• Page loading hangs and never times out (Apache)

  I have set up Apache2 on a guest Ubuntu 10.04 OS (virtualbox). I have created a "big" HTML file (4MB) with only plain text and when I access a page through my local IP address such as http://192.168.0.100 it successfully loads the entire page. However, when I try to access it through my public IP address the browser loads part of the page and then hangs forever on "loading". I can load a simple webpage though. I'm not sure whether it's an issue with my Apache configuration, Virtualbox, Router or Modem. Any clues? Tried enabling Debug and mod_status but didn't find any useful information.

  I hi guys i'm trying to accomplish something: i have a modem (ADSL) which servers as a wireless router as well. There's a laptop connected to it through cable. On the other room i have a laptop which is connected through the router wirelessly. Now the problem is, since i have other appliances that need to get connected but are not wifi cable i have another wifi router. • Setting up VMWare ESXi 5 with a single physical NIC

  I have a cheap but powerful dedicated server I am leasing with OVH, because they were recently having a promotion. I would like to try and manage all this power by playing with VMs using ESXi. However I am only provided with a single NIC. I had thought this would be easy to get around since, at home I have a single NIC which is my broadband modem, and yet a simple NAT gateway device happily provides internet access to all my devices. I am struggling to implement this on ESXi, though. Can anyone advise on how I could go about having ESXi and multiple VMs working with just one NIC? Here's my current setup: I believe all I need is to be able to configure NAT from the NIC to all the VMs etc.. How would I set up and administer this kind of infrastructure?

• Can I use static routing to allow me to use my public IP from my LAN?

  I would like to be able to use the same hostname to connect to my computer from my phone whether I'm at home or away. Currently I have to maintain duplicate entries for remote desktop, for instance. My router doesn't seem to have a NAT loopback option. I have two routers in fact, a cable modem which goes straight to my main router which does wireless. I can add to the static routing tables on each. Can I use this to loopback the public IP or do I need different routers?

• Would a switch be covered by a router's firewall

  So... Hopefully; this is the right place for this question. I need more Ethernet ports on my home network. Sadly, we already have an old router connected to the main router and we still need more ports. I feel dumb for asking; but, I just would like to double check. Would the devices connected to the switch be "protected" by the Main router's firewall? ? Up to this point I have assumed that was the case; but, a co-worker is convinced that is not the case [ I believe he is thinking of a situation in which the switch (un-managed) is before an access point]. [It would go modem to main router; main router then has the switch and old router connected to it.

  I have cable internet and I have two PC. One of them has wireless and ethernet, the other pc has ethernet only. Also, I have a dsl modem that has wireless builtin (some common speedstream model). My goal is to connect all of them so that both have internet access. As I understand, I have two options: connect speedstream to the cable and then connect other PC's to speedstream; OR, connect pc with wireless to the cable and then connect the other pc that has ethernet only using ethernet+wireless through speestream. First one seems to be easy, but it doesn't seem to work. What about the other choice? Is it possible to do it?

  I am using active directory in windows server 2008 R2 having IP address is 10.10.10.10 and my DSL modem Ip is 10.10.10.101. All clients are using 10.10.10.101 default gw to access the Internet. I don't know who is using Torrent in network or downloading something via IDM or something else. I just want to Monitor my clients for who are download via torrent or whatever. Is there anything in Windows Server 2008r2 that would allow me to do this monitoring, or do I need something else?

• Using a Token-ring network card instead of a router (?)

  I have cable, and the modem only has 1 network plug-in. They said I could buy my own router if I wanted to hook up two computers to it. I have an IBM Turbo 16/4 Token-Ring PC Card 2, which was in the laptop when I bought it, and the laptop also has the typical network plug (not a PC Card). Is there a way I could run the laptop as a server, and plug my desktop into the laptop, so they both have internet without my having to buy a router? (I realize routers are as cheap as $30.) Both computers run Windows XP Pro SP3. (I also have an 10/100 Etherjet Cardbus card (PC Card)). Thanks.

  I have configured a ubuntu 12.04 64-bit server machine on Amazon AWS to act as a strongswan IPSEC server. I want to connect to it from my MAC OSX Lion's inbuilt IPSEC client. The OSX machine is in my home network. I log into the AWS machine using a ssh to ubuntu@public-ip and I provide the private RSA key in form of .pem file which I downloaded when the machine instance was created. The ssh connection works file but the IPSEC connection fails. What credentials/configurations should I provide for an IPSEC connection from my OSX client to AWS ubuntu server? My OSX machine is behind an ISP provided modem/router. Appreciate any help and thanks in advance

• How can I open a port in OS X 10.6?

  Mine is MacBook Air, so I cannot plug to the modem directly. And I do want to turn my firewall off. How can I specify to open a port, like port 56789 in Mac OS 10.6.8? I know in old Mac OS, there is a option for me to specify a custom port. But I cannot find it in OS X 10.6.8. In System Preferences / Security / Firewall, I only can allow an APPLICATION to access a new port. However, now I'm programming, using a new port. So, it seems not suitable for me. So, can I simply open a port instead of using an Application to open a port?

The solution of IE's "Content advisor" or firefox's "FoxFilter" isn't good enough because it actually downloads the data and just don't display it. I want to block the traffic before the requests are sent. How is it possible? Thanks. Edit: OS is windows xp. The browser can be firefox, iexplorer, chrome... It doesn't matter. However, in ubuntu on the same machine, websites seem to take longer to start loading. I think the dns lookup is slow. I think https sites may be slower, as Ijust can't log in to gmail. I am also using a mercurial repo with remote origin, and it takes forever (like 5 minutes) to push one small change. I think it is because it has to communicate through https multiple times. Should I change my dns server? I've seen that I don't have these problems at my work network (they have another dns server). This happens with the IPv4 settings being automatic (dhcp). When I change it to automatic (dhcp) addresses only, and add google's 8.8.8.8 in the dns servers, it still takes forever. Why is this happening?

Now, I want to add another router (say B) (with wifi connection) to the LAN, in order to connect wifi pc's and net printers. Here I would disable DCHP server functionality. Is it correct to connect router B to router A via an ethernet port? In router A I define an IP address (eg 192.168.1.100) to be assigned to router B (MAC address). I expect to see router B listed as an attached device, in router A's status, but on the contrary it is not listed.

• How can I use my Windows 7 computer to share WiFi connection with PCs that don't have wireless?

  Long story short: modem and wireless router are downstairs and we're having a LAN party where some visitors don't have wireless. There's no way to run the length of cabling required, so looking for options. My Windows 7 Home Premium PC has a wireless-n connection, and I'd like to see if I can use it as a "hub" or switch of sorts, running an ethernet cable out of the back and into a switch, then splitting off to the other PCs. Is this an option? I know with Internet sharing, you can set up your PC as a wireless access point, but I want to do the opposite.
