    I've heard many times that all programming is really a subset of math. Some suggest that OO, at its roots, is mathematically based. I don't get the connection. Aside from some obvious examples: using induction to prove a recursive algorithm formal correctness proofs functional languages lambda calculus asymptotic complexity DFAs, NFAs, Turing Machines, and theoretical computation in general the fact that everything on the box is binary In what ways is programming really a subset of math? I'm looking for an explanation that might have relevance to enterprise/OO development (if there is a strong enough connection, that is). Thanks in advance. Edit: as I stated in a comment to an answer, math is uber important to programming, but what I struggle with is the "subset" argument.

Since I upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise RTM, the following line gets added to my Web.config: <extendedProtectionPolicy policyEnforcement="Never" /> The problem is that when I deploy this application to my web server I get the following error: The element 'transport' cannot contain child element 'extendedProtectionPolicy' because the parent element's content model is empty I can remove the line and it will work, but its a pain and I forget sometimes to remove it again (VS2008 adds seems to add it back whenever I load the solution!!).   • ERROR: Could not contact the SSO server

    Hi, I'm getting the following error on my dev machine when attempting to manage SSO settings: ERROR: 0xC0002A0F : Could not contact the SSO server 'SSODB'. Check that SSO is configured and that the SSO service is running on that server. The Enterprise Single Sign-On Service, RPC service, and COM+ System Application service were all started when I checked, but I gave them a restart anyway and it didn't fix the problem. I can access the SSODB through SSMS. I unconfigured SSO through BizTalk and reconfigured it (successfully). Alas, this also did not help. SSO was previously working fine. I did notice this morning upon reboot that my browser home page was reset back to our corporate site (meaning something may have been pushed to machine this morning when I signed on) but no one else on my team is experiencing the same issues. I'm not sure what to try next. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

ERRORLOG.6; FDLAUNCHERRORLOG, FDLAUNCHERRORLOG.1, FDLAUNCHERRORLOG.2, ... FDLAUNCHERRORLOG.6; log_207.trc, log_208.trc, ... My question is what are the differnet function of such log files? And why there are files ends with .1, .2, etc? thanks in advance, George

    I have a SharePoint 2010 site set up and would like to add a Wiki site to it. Normally, to add a subsite to a parent site you would click "Site Actions" - "New Site" and choose the site type (e.g. Team Site) and it would work fine. In the case of adding a Wiki site, I choose "Enterprise Wiki", and get "Error An Unexpected Error has occured Correlation Id:...". So i took the CorrelationId and checked in the ULS files to see what the error is, and the first bad sign seems to be: SharePoint Foundation Feature Infrastructure " The element of type 'ContentTypeBinding' for feature 'EnterpriseWiki' (id: 76d688ad-c16e-4cec-9b71-7b7f0d79b9cd) threw an exception during activation: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.     I have a crystal report in my Visual Studio 2008 ASP.NET project, and when I choose "Group Expert" from the Crystal Reports - Report menu, Visual Studio crashes / hangs and I have to use Task Manager to close the program. This happens no matter how many times I try, and oddly enough it seems to work fine on another computer with the same project. Any help at all in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I am using Visual Studio 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Developer SP2, Windows Vista Enterprise SP1, and the version of Crystal Reports that came with the Visual Studio installation.

  • SFML SetFramerateLimit Not Limiting Frame Rate

    Compiler: Visual C++ OS: Windows 7 Enterprise For some reason, Window::SetFramerateLimit isn't limiting the frame rate in the app I'm working on, but it works fine for others. The framerate is capped to 60, but mine jumps around at 100-99 and then goes down to 50 sometimes. It actually causes serious issues. For example, if I create many objects on screen, I'll see a heavy performance hit, whereas others report no change. Any ideas regarding why this is happening? If you need more information, I'd be happy to oblige. Thanks. P.S. I have strong reasons to believe that it is not simply a case of "their hardware is just more powerful than yours."

I have a custom DLL and BLL, of which the model objects are custom business objects that reside in a separate class library. I was using this validation library in MVC1, which worked great. It worked great, but I want to eliminate the extra plugins and use what is available. Rather than use the Enterprise Library validation attributes I have converted to using DataAnnotations and want to use jQuery validation as the client side validation. My questions are: 1) Is the MicrosoftMvcJQueryValidation JS file still required, where do I download. 2) How to you automate the validation to views that do not have models, IE Membership sign in page? 3) How to you add model errors in a custom business layer.     Hopefully this question isn't as subjective as I think it may be. I have an Intranet application which needs to work with IE8 as the enterprise is replacing IE6 as the standard browser. Our testing team found that it did not work in IE8, little did they know that it actually did. Their browsers were set to run IE8 in compatibility mode for Intranet applications. I found that if I set the meta tag for X-UA-Compatible to IE=EmulateIE8 that I could force the browser to render this application as IE8 and the application worked fine. Are there any pitfalls that I don't know about for this solution? If so, is there a better solution?

So, when one of the tier reaches peak performance, we could extend the scalability easily by adding a new server and the same application to off-load some of the processing loads. The problem is that one or two of the three tiers require heavy caching (about 3 million records and increasing). I'm thinking of using distributed caching system to overcome this problem but the new distributed caching system will means an additional point of failure as applications now need to interact with additional caching systems for processing. I'm currently looking at ncache but just wondering if there is an alternatives to this problem? or is there any other comparable distributed caching system that maybe similar or better than ncache and provide enterprise supports too?     I have a project which uses a large library residing in its own repository. Using: Tortoise-SVN, the server is running an enterprise edition of VisualSVN The project itself has the "standard" structure: trunk tags branches In each branch, tag, and trunk is the library, set as an external (svn:external property). If I get the entire tree, I get the library several times, which is just getting too ridiculously repetitive. Is there a recommended structure for this? Or perhaps a way not to get all externals (because other externals are much smaller, easier to manipulate)?

    Hi all Our ASp.net applications getting error as below" [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied " But i can connect with Enterprise manager management studio and Query analaizer with out any issue. It was running these applications with out any issue long time. last one week we are getting this error.If we restart the server .it works then it will come again after 3to 4 hours. We are running on Windows 2003 server. I was seraching and didnt find a solution yet. If anybody knows anything for this error, please post the details to resolve. Thank you in Advance Joseph

But unable to add the web reference of the search.asmx webservice. infact it has no WSDL file. just wondering about what setting it needs.... too If anybody know how to do, same. please let me know. you can find the search webservice at "http://:/sites//_vti_bin/spsearch.asmx" I tried by right cliking on project said Add Service Reference , inserts the url said Go , but nothis was there. same i tried with web aplication . but no effect. even i can see the methods in browser, but cannot generate WSDL ??
