• Does Java Mac OSX native look and feel respect UIManager font changes?

  I have a java applet and the only look and feel that works properly is the native mac one. I wanted to make the fonts a bit larger and tried using the standard UIManager methods UIManager.put("Label.font", new Font("Georgia", Font.PLAIN, 18)); This produces no change. It does not throw an exception, of course. Does anyone know if the native mac look and feel ignores these? I know there are specific ways to make controls different sizes on mac but these only seem to make them smaller. You cannot make the controls larger than regular.

  Hi I'm not too sure how to go about getting the external IP address of the machine as a computer outside of a network would see it. My following IPAddress class only gets the local IP address of the machine. Any help would be appreciated. • How to do Linq aggregates when there might be an empty set?

  I have a Linq collection of Things, where Thing has an Amount (decimal) property. I'm trying to do an aggregate on this for a certain subset of Things: var total = myThings.Sum(t => t.Amount); and that works nicely. But then I added a condition that left me with no Things in the result: var total = myThings.Where(t => t.OtherProperty == 123).Sum(t => t.Amount); And instead of getting total = 0 or null, I get an error: System.InvalidOperationException: The null value cannot be assigned to a member with type System.Decimal which is a non-nullable value type. That is really nasty, because I didn't expect that behavior. I would have expected total to be zero, maybe null - but certainly not to throw an exception! What am I doing wrong? What's the workaround/fix?

• isReachable in Java doesn't appear to be working quite the way it's supposed to

  I'm using Clojure, but I can read Java, so this isn't a Clojure specific question. This doesn't even seem to be working from Java. I'm trying to implement a bit of a 'ping' function using isReachable. The code I'm using is this: (.isReachable (java.net.InetAddress/getByName "www.microsoft.com") 5000) Translated to Java by a good friend of mine: public class NetTest { public static void main (String[] args) throws Exception{ String host = "acidrayne.net"; InetAddress a = InetAddress.getByName(host); System.out.println(a.isReachable(10000)); } } Both of these return false. • How do I detect whether a browser supports mouseover events?

  Let's assume I have a web page which has some onmouseover javascript behaviour to drop down a menu (or something similar) Obviously, this isn't going to work on a touch device like the iPad or smartphones. How can I detect whether the browser supports hover events like onmouseover or onmouseout and the :hover pseudotag in CSS? Note: I know that if I'm concerned about this I should write it a different way, but I'm curious as to whether detection can be done. Edit: When I say, "supports hover events", I really mean, "does the browser have a meaningful representation of hover events". If the hardware supports it but the software doesn't (or vice versa), there's no meaningful representation. With the exception of some upcoming tech, I don't think any touch devices have a meaningful representation of a hover event.

  In Hibernate HQL, how would you query through a many-to-many association. If I have a Company with multiple ProductLines and other companies can offer these same product lines, I have a Company entity, a ProductLine entity and an association table CompanyProductLine. In SQL, I can get what I need like this: select * from company c where c.companyId in (select companyId from companyProductLine cpl, productline pl where cpl.productLineId = pl.productLineId and pl.name= 'some value'); My problem sees to lie with the association I defined in the Company.hbm.xml file: <set name="productLines" cascade="save-update" table="CompanyProductLine"> <key column="companyId"/> <many-to-many class="com.foo.ProductLine" column="productLineId" /> </set> Any HQL I seem to come up with will throw a: 'expecting 'elements' or 'indices"' Hibernate exception. Thoughts on what the proper HQL would be?

• Showing ImageView next to TextView in a ListView

  So I have a listview that is displaying correctly. When the item is "turned on" the text is white and when it's turned off it's grey. That part all functions great. However when I add the ImageView into the mix I get a null pointer exception. I don't understand why. I've tried using bitmaps as well and get the same problem.   Issues reading CSV file using OLEDB when filenamen have period. I have a code in C# that reads CSV File using OleDBProvider. It works perfect with filenames in regular format such as Budget.csv but failed when i renamed the file into Budget.DKK.csv or Budget.USD.csv I throws this exception: he Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'Budget.DKK.csv'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly. I have no idea so far why is this happenning.

• Problem saving Text file in database using Hibernate

  I'm having a problem saving large text files to MySQL database. If the text file size is around 5KB it successfully saves. If file is 148KB then I get this error from Hibernate: org.hibernate.exception.DataException: Could not execute JDBC batch update These is the SQL shows by Hibernate: Hibernate: insert into file_table (ID,FILE) values (?, ?) And in my hibernate file I'm using java.sql.Blob to store the file. Anyone knows why it fails to save a file size of 148KB but if I open that same file, cut it down to around 5KB, it will successfully save it? I thought the default limit was I think 2GB? This is weird. Thanks.

• Editing a TreeView node doesn't change the TreeNode Key

  I have a TreeView with user-editable nodes. I like to use the node caption as key to my tree node : + Root |+ Node1 ||- SubNode1 ||- SubNode2 |+ Node2 ||- SubNode3 ||- SubNode4 So I can reach a node like this: MyTreeView.Nodes["Root"].Nodes["Node2"].Nodes["SubNode3"] The problem is that, as I allow the user to rename any node, I would need also to change the key of my node in its parent in the AfterLabelEdit handler... which seems (logically) not to be done automatically. Unfortunately, Nodes["blabla"] is readonly, Nodes.Add(string Key, TreeNode Node) doesn't exist, and I can't find a way to do this without throwing (sooner or later) a bad exception. Any idea ?

  I'm accessing a MySql database via ODBC. It normally works fine, but if the database is stopped and restarted I have to restart my application in order to reconnect to the database. Is there any way I can reconnect to the database when I detect that the connection has broken? I use VS2008 and MySql 5.1.30.

• Is it possible to raise an error if a variable assignment in a select returns multiple values?

  I just found a bug on one of my softwares where I had forgotten a where clause. The code was something like that : declare @foo bigint declare @bar bigint select @foo = foo, @bar=bar from tbFooBar where (....a long list of condition goes there) (... and an extra condition should have went there but I forgot it) Unfortunately, the where clause I forgot was useful in very specific corner cases and the code went through testing successfully. Eventually, the query returned two values instead of one, and the resulting bug was a nightmare to track down (as it was very difficult to reproduce, and it wasn't obvious at all that this specific stored procedure was causing the issue we spotted) Debugging would have been a lot easier if the @foo=foo had raised an exception instead of silently assigning the first value out of multiple rows. Why is that this way? I can't think of a situation where one would actually want to do that without raising an error (bearing in mind the clauses 'distinct' and 'top' are there for a reason) And is there a way to make sql server 2008 raise an error if this situation occurs ?

• Opening an Excel file in c#

  So there are a lot of questions regarding this method on SO, but none seem to answer my question. I firstly had an issue with the connectionstring (although it seems to work in other areas of my code correctly). This was resolved easily. Now the issue is with a simple SELECT query via a OLEDBCommand (Text) that keeps popping up the following error? "SELECT [Opportunity#],[BidManager],[Prob %],[Opportunity_Stage].[Opportunity_Status],[Term],[Sign Date] FROM [Sheet1$];" No value given for one or more required parameters. but their are no parameters???? Checked and double checked the columns names, but to no avail. Also tried removing the special characters from the column names, but still the same exception.
