• create_or_update in ModelForm

  I want to have a ModelForm that can create_or_update a model instance based on the request parameters. I've been trying to cobble something together, but am realizing that my python fu is not strong enough, and the ModelForm implementation code is a quite hairy. I found this create_or_update snipplet for working with a Model, but I think it would be incredibly useful if it were integrated with a ModelForm. I would expect it to behave similarly to ModelForm.save(): class BetterModelForm(forms.ModelForm): def init(self, *args, **kwargs) def create_or_update(self): #magic return (instance, created, updated) Conversely I'd also be interested in hearing compelling reasons why this is not a good idea.

  I am saving a reference to an RSS Feed in MongoDB, each Feed has an ever growing list of Entries. As I'm designing my schema, I'm concerned about this statement from the MongoDB Schema Design - Embed vs. Reference Documentation: If the amount of data to embed is huge (many megabytes), you may read the limit on size of a single object. This will surely happen if I understand the statement correctly. So the question is, I am correct to assume that I should not embed the Feed Entries within a Feed because I'll eventually reach the limit on size of a single object?

• When I really need to use [NSThread sleepForTimeInterval:1];

  Hi there, I have a program that needs to use sleep. Like really needs to. In lieu of spending ages explaining why, suffice to say that it needs it. Now I'm told to split off my code into a separate thread if it requires sleep so I don't lose interface responsiveness, so I've started learning how to use NSThread. I've created a brand new program that is conceptual so to solve the issue for this example will help me in my real program. Short story is I have a class, it has instance variables and I need a loop with a sleep to be depended on the value of that instance variable.   I have an application that comprises multiple processes each accessing a single Berkeley DB Concurrent Data Store (CDB) database. Each process is single-threaded and does no explicit locking of the database. When each process terminates normally, it calls DB-close() and DB_ENV-close(). When all processes have terminated, there should be no locks on the database. Episodically, however, the database behaves as if some process was holding a write-lock on it even though all processes have terminated normally. Does each process need to explicitly release all locks before calling DB_ENV-close()? If so, how does the process obtain the "locker" parameter for the call to DB_ENV-loc_vec()?

  Hi, I am in the process of making a webapp, and this webapp needs to have a form wizard. The wizard consists of 3 ModelForms, and it works flawlessly. But I need the second form to be a "edit form". That is, i need it to be a form that is passed an instance. How can you do this with a form wizard? How do you pass in an instance of a model? I see that the FormWizard class has a get_form method, but isnt there a documented way to use the formwizard for editing/reviewing of data?

How do I keep the instance beyond the method where it was allocated? I assign values in one method and want to be able to use those values in other methods.   I'm using the jQuery UI Widget Factory to build a jQuery plugin. My plugin binds custom events to the window... _subscribe: function() { $(window).on("dragger.started", function() { ... }); } I am wondering how to go about removing these events, when a particular instance of the plugin is destroyed. If I use... destroy: function() { $(window).off("dragger.started"); } ...then that will mess up any other instances of the plugin on the page, as it will remove all "dragger.started" events. For instance, with XmlSerialization: <Outlet /> Also, I'm not solely concerned about XmlSerialization, I'm concerned about ALL serialization (binary for instance) How can I ensure that this serializes properly? NOTE: I did this because mapping an int,int dictionary seemed rather poorly typed to me when explicit objects with validation behavior were desired.

  I keep seeing people wanting to do this (or something very similar) and then being surprised at how much it might cost them if they went with Windows Azure. Time for a Q&A. Short answer: No, definitely not. Madness, sheer madness. (Hopefully that was clear enough) Longer answer: No because It would cost you a heck of a lot more than just about any other approach to running a blog. A site that can easily be run on a shared hosting solution (as many blogs do today) does not require the rich capabilities of Windows Azure. Capabilities such as simplified deployed and management, dedicated resources, elastic resources, “unlimited” storage etc. It is simply not the type of application the Windows Azure Platform has been designed for.   I have created a Web Control in ASP for use in integrating with Telligent CommunityServer. The control is written in ASP with some 10 lines of C# backend for controlling visibility of the UI elements based on permissions, but I'd say 90% of the functionality is straight-up Javascript. The control works beautifully, until you drop two instances of the Control on the same page--since they reference the exact same Javascript functions, only one control works. How can I take this functionality that I have, this 1200 lines of Javascript, and make it so that each instance of the control can reference its each unique instance of Javascript?

The unfortunate or unordinary fact is, we have 15 of these formsets, one for email addresses, other for phone numbers etc. so the view code is ugly and not-so-manageable. What would be the most unhackish way to handle this number of formsets in a single view? At the end -i guess- I'm looking for a class or a functionality like multiple_generic_inline_formset and open to all kind of suggestions or discussions.

• Most efficient algorithm for mesh-level, optimal occlusion culling?

  I am new to culling. On a first glance, it seems that most occlusion culling algorithms are object-level, not examining single meshes, which would be practical for game rendering. What I am looking for is an algorithm that culls all meshes within a single object that are occluded for a given viewpoint, with high accuracy. It needs to be at least O(n log n), a naive mesh-by-mesh comparison (O(n^2)) is too slow. I notice that the Blender GUI identifies the occluded meshes for you in real-time, even if you work with large objects of 10,000+ meshes. What algorithm is used there, pray tell?

  Probably something simple, but as I'm new to lambda expressions, the problem evades me: m => m.contactID == contactID && m.primaryAddress == true && (m.addressTypeID == 2 || m.addressTypeID == 3) I tried to use that lambda expression but I receive an invalid operator. Is there a way to simplify this so that it would work? Edit: The equivolent sql query would be: SELECT * FROM Contact WHERE contactID = 3 AND primaryAddress = 1 AND (addressTypeID = 2 OR addressTypeID = 3) I have a repository function defined like so: public E Single(Expression<Func<E, bool>> where) { return objectSet.Single<E>(where); } I'm passing the lambda expression above into this function. Invalid operator error.

For example, if the name was missing from the PrimaryContact instance the error would read "primary contact name is required". My current solution is to create a validation service that checks the model state for field errors then remove said errors and add them back using the specific language I'd like.
