Hosted version of Yahoo! answers

Hi all. Does anyone know of a hosted version of Yahoo! Answers (or Stackoverflow/Superuser) that I could integrate with my site? I know that there are some open-source implementations (see http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/2267/stack-overflow-clones?page=1&tab=votes#tab-top) but I'd rather have some hosted if possible. I know there is http://stackexchange.com/ as well, but I really want some tight integration with the rest of my site. Failing that, has anyone got any experience with the open source versions? Check/Monitor Amount of SQL Queries per Hour

My website is hosted on a shared hosting and I'd like to know how much SQL queries it is using per hour. I tried to navigate through cPanel and I find nothing to check or monitor the amount of SQL queries per hour. I tried to ask my host and they said it is not possible to do manually. However I found this http://forum.powweb.com/archive/index.php/t-49937.html and another one on Stackoverflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9842094/sql-how-can-i-get-the-number-of-executed-queries-per-database-or-hour-or And since this exists, I assume that it is actually possible. Problem is I can't execute that in my phpmyAdmin. Can someone here guide me through the process?

Helper method to Replace/Remove characters that do not match the Regular Expression

I have a few fields, that use regEx for validation. In case if provided field has unaccepted characters, I don't want to reject the whole field, as most of validators do, but just remove invalid characters. I am expecting to keep only Character Classes for allowed characters and created a helper method to strip unaccepted characters. Must I loop to search results for a specific value?

I have a table in the database: name Opinion Tim Tim has an opinion John other random text Dan Dan's random text Al Al says something else I call this data and get it back in getRecords.lastResult To access John's opinion, I could use: getRecords.lastResult[1].opinion But that's only because I know that John is the second record (record 1), but this may change. So the right way is to search through the results to first find the record index for John, then access his opinion. My guess is I need some sort of a loop? Is there an easier way to search for John directly without a loop?

I have 2 tables Members and Managers Members has: memberID, Name, Address Managers has: memberID, EditRights, DeleteRights EditRights and DeleteRights are of type bit. Mangers have a relationship with Members, because they are members themselves. I want to select all members id's, name and adress and for the members that are managers show if they have editrights and/or deleterights. Java dev learning Python: what concepts do I need to wrap my head around?

I've run through a few tutorials and written some small projects. I'm right in the middle of a small project now infact. All is going well enough thanks in no small part to Uncle Google (who usually points me to Stackoverflow ;-) Several times in the last few days I've found myself wondering "what am I missing?" - I feel that I'm still thinking in Java as I write in Python. This question over at StackOverflow is full of tips about what resources to read up on for learning Python, but I still feel that I'm a Java dev with a dictionary (pun unintended) to translate into Python. What I really want to do is refactor my head to be able to write Pythonic Python instead of Java disguised as Python (not that I want to loose my Java skills). So, the crux of my question is: what concepts does a Java dev really need to learn to think Pythonic? This includes anything that needs to be un-learnt. ps: I consider language syntax to not be particularly relevant to this question.

How to decouple an app's agile development from a database using BDUF?

G'day, I was reading the article "Database as a Fortress" by Dan Chak from the excellent book "97 Things Every Software Architect Should Know" (sanitised Amazon link) which suggests that databases should not be designed using an agile approach. There's an SO question on agile approaches and databases "Agile development and database changes" which has some excellent answers covering agile development approaches. In fact, one of the answers supplies a brilliant idea of what's needed for each update of the DB. ;-) But after reading Dan Chak's article, I am left wondering if an agile approach is really suitable for large scale systems. This of course leads on to the question of how best to decouple an agile approach for the application that is interacting with the BDUF database design without adding complicated translation layers in the final design employed? I have a single threaded application that runs on a machine with a quad core processor. The scheduled tasks that run VB.NET forms are too slow. I am new to multi threading and parallel computing. If you have a single threaded application that runs on a server with a multi core processor then does the application only ever use one of the processors? What happens if you have multiple scheduled tasks and multiple instances are in memory at the same time? Possible Duplicate: Explaining interfaces to beginning programmers? I searched on stackoverflow and here for a good example to teach java interfaces in a beginners class. I found the following post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/416331/java-interfaces The Official Java-Tutorial and the references feature examples that are quite good but I would need a very simple example to start with for my class. I don't think the offical tutorial is the best resource for absolute beginners. The students are easily confused, and the most effective example would help. Lets assume following scenario, I have two sites: example1.com example2.com When user visits 1 there is a prompt "please signup to a newsletter". Same thing happens when user visits 2. However when navigating from 1 to 2 I don't want signup form to be shown. How do I tell httpd.conf to handle those properly as well? Libgdx change color of Texture at runtime [on hold]

i allready asked this on Stackoverflow, but i think this question may belong here. In a Libgdx game i have some Animations for my Player. All the Frames for this Animation are inside a TextureAtlas. The Player Textures show a human, with a white T-Shirt. The T-Shirt is the only white part of the Player. Now i want to be able to replace the white color with red for Player1, with green for Player2 and so on. How can i do that, without loosing the advantage of the TextureAtlas (Texture switching)? Ofc 1 way would be to store 4 versions of every Frame, for 4 different Players (colors). But there are games out there, where you can fully customize the Player, give him a blue hat, red pants and pink shirts and so on. How can this be done? Thanks a lot! Django's tagline is "The web framework for perfectionists with deadlines," and Satchmo's tagline is equally forceful: "The webshop for perfectionists with deadlines." I'm looking more to set up, configure, design, etc., rather than code for this one, and I'm taking a bit of a hint that for me at least the "with deadlines" bit is something that I cannot manage. Deployment has been a time sink. So, taking a step back, I don't specifically need to edit and extend the source code; what I want are first, good usability and a clean experience for the end-user, then being easy to deploy/install/manage/maintain, and enough so that even if you're having a slow day it should at most be one day's work to install, one day's work to get running, and one day's work to rebrand as white label (for simple branding). What ecommerce webshops should I be looking at?

How to keep Ubuntu 11.10 and Kate editor w/terminal from changing command line when changing tabs?

I am programming C using Kate editor in Ubuntu 11.10. It works great, but when I change tabs in Kate, the terminal line changes to the file path of the tab I click on. Normally this is not a big deal (other than annoyingly adding extra text to my terminal) however if I am currently RUNNNING a C program, it obviously will type at the command line, which is not so cool. Example terminal window for my C program (its at a menu): 1) select opt 1 2) select opt 2 Enter choice: (here it waits for prompt from user) Now when I click a tab in Kate, it wants to put in the cd / path of the file in that tab, such as: cd /home/user/os/files And of course since my terminal was waiting for prompt from user it gets that command.. not good. Perhaps there is no fix, but maybe someone knows? Obviously I could choose NOT to switch tabs or end program before switching tabs... Note: I probably made the mistake of putting this under StackOverflow which is more of a programming area - so though repost here might be best (I am not sure how to link the questions but will paste hyperlink to that post - I dont want to violate any stackoverflow/superuser violations) Suggestions on merging them are welcome or if I should delete one? Installing MySQL 5.1 on OS X 10.7 Lion

I am trying to install MySQL 5.1. I am on Lion, and when I remove all files associated with MySQL on my machine it still tells me that I have a newer version installed when I try to install it from the DMG file. Has anyone successfully installed MySQL 5.1 on Lion? Telugu (unicode) font rendering in emacs

My question at stackoverflow had two small images showing the example rendering of text. As a new user at superuser, I am not being allowed to include them here, nor I am allowed to post more than one hyperlink. And, I don't have enough reputation on SO to migrate that question. Please look at the stackoverflow question for the images. Sorry about the inconvenience.] I sometimes edit text in telugu language. However, when I open the file (UTF-8 encoded) in GNU emacs (version 23.1.50.1 on Ubuntu Jaunty) the text rendering is incorrect. The same text file opened in gedit is rendered correctly. From a performance standpoint, is there a preferred way to set up Thunderbird message filters?

When I used Kontact, I used filters heavily to sort my incoming email into various folders. Since switching to Thunderbird, I've been slowly recreating these filters as new mail arrives. This seems like the perfect time to rethink how I use message filters. The way I see it, there are two basic ways to filter messages. Either I can have lots of filters, or I can have lots of criteria. An example is in order. Assume that I get emails from four people (Boss, CEO, Intern, and StackOverflow) that I want to sort into two folders, "Stack" and "Work" Option A: Filter 1: if FROM contains "Boss" -> move to "Work" Filter 2: if FROM contains "CEO" -> move to "Work" Filter 3: if FROM contains "Intern" -> move to "Work" Filter 4: if FROM contains "StackOverflow" -> move to "Stack" Option B: Filter 1: if FROM contains "Boss" OR FROM contains "CEO" OR FROM contains "Intern" -> move to "Work" Filter 2: if FROM contains "StackOverflow" -> move to "Stack" Assuming that when I'm done, I'll have about a hundred different criteria to filter on, is one of these methods better than the other from a performance standpoint?

Limiting DOPs – Who rules over whom?

I've gotten a couple of questions from Dan Morgan and figured I start to answer them in this way. While Dan is running on a big system he is running with Database Resource Manager and he is trying to make sure the system doesn't go crazy (remember end user are never, ever crazy!) on very high DOPs. Q: How do I control statements with very high DOPs driven from user hints in queries? A: The best way to do this is to work with DBRM and impose limits on consumer groups. The Max DOP setting you can set in DBRM allows you to overwrite the hint. Now let's go into some more detail here. Assume my object (and for simplicity we assume there is a single object - and do remember that we always pick the highest DOP when in doubt and when conflicting DOPs are available in a query) has PARALLEL 64 as its setting. Assume that the query that selects something cool from that table lives in a consumer group with a max DOP of 32. Assume no goofy things (like running out of parallel_max_servers) are happening. A query selecting from this table will run at DOP 32 because DBRM caps the DOP. As of 11.2.0.1 we also use the DBRM cap to create the original plan (at compile time) and not just enforce the cap at runtime. Now, my user is smart and writes a query with a parallel hint requesting DOP 128. This query is still capped by DBRM and DBRM overrules the hint in the statement. The statement, despite the hint, runs at DOP 32. Note that in the hinted scenario we do compile the statement with DOP 128 (the optimizer obeys the hint). This is another reason to use table decoration rather than hints. Q: What happens if I set parallel_max_servers higher than processes (e.g. the max number of processes allowed to run on my machine)? A: Processes rules. It is important to understand that processes are fixed at startup time. If you increase parallel_max_servers above the number of processes in the processes parameter you should get a warning in the alert log stating it can not take effect. As a follow up, a hinted query requesting more parallel processes than either parallel_max_servers or processes will not be able to acquire the requested number. Parallel_max_processes will prevent this. And since parallel_max_servers should be lower than max processes you can never go over either...
