• JQuery Autocomplete - Stop mouseover+Return submitting data

  I'm using JQuery Autocomplete (bassistance) and have run into a problem. If the mouse rolls over one of the autocomplete suggestions and the user hits the return key (rather than clicking to make selection), the form is submitted and goes to whatever link was rolled over at the time. This is a problem as people click in the textbox, and when typing their search, leave the pointer where the autocomplete popup appears. So when they hit enter, it doesn't do the search for whatever they typed in the box but whatever was highlighted in the autocomplete suggestions. Is there a way to stop this? Using Google as the functionality I'm after... So just to clarify - I want selections via mouse and keyboard to go to the same place, but if the UP or DOWN arrow has not been pressed (user not selected an autocomplete option via the keyword), dont go to the URL specified in the autosuggest - instead submit the form (traditional method without JQuery) based on what has been typed in the textbox. I hope I'm explaining this clearly? :S

  Hi, I am using a asp.net login control with one of my asp.net application to authenticate users. I also have roles defined as well. Some of the directories are setup so only users with ROLE "MANAGER" are able to access pages under those directories. If the user does not have "MANAGER" role, he will simply be redirect back to the login page. so my question is that for the out of box login control, is there a way to show the proper login fail error message? for user trying to login but does not have a proper ROLE assigned to them, instead of a generic error message saying "login failed" thanks.

• Morphing content based on window part focus

  What I'm trying to achieve is basically have a code that will morph ( move around the page ) based on the part of the window which is currently viewed. Scenario : - actual page height : 2000px - actual screen height( pc, laptop whatever ) : 800px - 1 image of 600px - 3 div's or virtual boxes ( just to prove what I want to do ) Workflow When you open the page, you'd see the first part of the page with the image loaded in the first div. What I want and need to achieve is when scrolling the page, and the focus would be on the second div ( or the image simply gets out of focus - you can't see it no more ), the image would move ( disappear from the first box ) and appear in the second one, which is currently visible. The idea might seem pretty easy but I'm not Javascript savvy. Ideally, the answer should include a way to load a Javascript instead of that image.

• How to retrieve XML attribute for custom control

  I've created a combo box control with a edittext and spinner. I'm trying to let the android:prompt attribute be passed onto the spinner, which means I need to catch it in the constructor which passes my the AttributeSet and set it on the spinner. I can't figure out how to get the value of the prompt. I'm trying, int[] ra = { android.R.attr.prompt }; TypedArray ta = context.getTheme().obtainStyledAttributes(ra); int id = ta.getResourceId(0, 0); I get back 0, which means it didn't find the attribute. I also did a ta.count() which returned 0. So I'm not getting anything back. My XML simply defines an android:prompt value. Thanks

• ASP MVC dynamic fields in editor

  I have a form which will include some optional questions that need to asked of the user. In my model it may look like pubic Dictionary<String, String> Questions { get; set; } where the key is the label and value is the text box. How can I create and populate controls for this? I'm new to ASP MVC, but it makes sense that something like this would be built in. Is there a built in way to do this, or do I have to implement it myself? It seems like there should be a helper for it, since you don't really want to put this kind of code in the view. I've tried Html.EditorFor(model => model.Questions); but it just spits out "[key, value]" to the view.

• CLI design and implementation?

  I am developing a time management tool for my personal use. I prefer using keyboard over mouse, and on the interface have a general purpose text box which will act like a command line. I have just started thinking about what commands I need, what to use for the command names, how to pass in switches and parameters, and so forth. I wonder if some of you have come across a good read along these lines; something that describes the choices you have for designing a cli, and how those affect the complexity of the interpreter, and extendability of the commands. It makes no difference if the descriptions are language-specific or in general terms. However, my implementation will be with javascript. Thank you.

• WIX - Verify that file exists - and/or file-browser dialog/button

  How do you create a "Browse" button in a WIX dialog. I currently have a custom dialog box with four radio buttons (Dev, QA, Stage, and Prod), and a text field for a filename. The install of course dies if the user enters a bad filename. I would be happy first of all just to verify that the file they entered exists. Secondly, I would like to add a File-Browser button, if such things exists in WIX. But even then, I would imagine the user could type in any file name, and I should still check to see if it exists. • How to Integrate SharePoint 2007/2010 and Google Apps?

  Hello All, My (smaller) company has an existing Google Apps Deployment, used for E-Mail / Calendar, etc. I'm looking into a SharePoint setup (2010 most likely). One of the best features is that new events are added to one's Outlook Calendar, e-mails can be sent automatically, etc. Naturally, this works best out-of-the-box with Exchange. I know I can add my own OpenID login system via an OpenID provider for SharePoint and get my users into the system. My question is, can anyone recommend the best way to go about making sure that events automatically find their way into users' calendars and e-mails on the Google Apps system? This would enable us to deploy SharePoint without worrying about migrating our e-mail system to Exchange first (Google Apps is more cost-effective for our needs and I'm required to keep it.)   I have some problems with ASP.NET MVC’s default model binder. The View contains HTML like this: <input name="SubDTO[0].Id" value="1" type="checkbox"> <input name="SubDTO[1].Id" value="2" type="checkbox"> This is my simplified ‘model’: public class SubDTO { public virtual string Id { get; set; } } public class DTO { public List<SubDTO> SubDTOs { get; set; } public DTO() { SubDTOs = new List< SubDTO>(); } } All this works fine if the user selects at least the first checkbox (SubDTO[0].Id). The controller ‘receives’ a nicely initialised/bound DTO. However, if the first check box is not selected but only, for example, SubDTO[1].Id the object SubDTOs is null.   does it take more than knowing Bt4 ? are there any one that just runs a scanner and no real labor involved ? would you be expected to be able to code your own exploits without having to dl from milw0rm and discover entry into a system by yourself, in other words, do you have to think outside the box even when there's so many tools that makes the job a lot easier ? would you ever be expected to be able to write your own scanners, exploits and etc ? i am also curious how people are able to write long pages of hex address, that magically causes some type of memory overflow...how are people guessing at the hex values for game hacks for instance ? are certification important ? what about formal school education ? I am a CS major.

• Emacs on Windows for C++ development configuration?

  Has anyone set up cygwin and some emacs to work well under a 64-bit Windows 7? I tried downloading cygwin recently, and by default not even dired works reliably, there are odd shell prompt characters, I get a lot of warnings, in one case C-c was read as C-g and caused various errors. (Neither xemacs nor emacs worked for me, where by "work" I mean that dired and shell work, and without warnings). I just want the usual emacs development tools: gdb-mode, shell-mode, compiling, tag-search to work as normal. I was hoping someone who has done this recently with cygwin could share whatever relevant shell files, emacs files, environment variables, and so on to make this all work. Should all these things just work out of the box?

I am looking to try to get a social network site up and running on Ruby on Rails and was looking at RailsSpace: Building a Social Networking Website with Ruby on Rails (Addison-Wesley Professional Ruby Series) - Paperback (July 30, 2007) by Michael Hartl. This was published in 2007, however, and the newer reviews say it is not very helpful. Does anyone know if there are any new publications out there that walk you through building a social network site while teaching you the code(rather than just using a out of the box program)? Thanks

• Mozilla Firefox border rendering

  Hi, I've come across a strange thing in Firefox, which has become a problem to me. It seems that Firefox renders borders thinner than other browsers. For example I have just a simple empty div element, and nothing else on the webpage, with a border set to width:3px. In all other browsers, such as IE, Opera, Chrome and Safari, the width looks the same and is in fact 3px wide. But in Firefox I noticed that the border width seemed thinner. So I checked the border width with Firebug, under the Computed tab - Box model. And yes as I suspected, the rendered border in Firefox is thinner. The border width that Firefox rendered is actually 2.2px and not the expected 3px. This small difference with Firefox completely messes up my design. Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks in advance!

I figured I could create and register a converter to handle this, but that just didn't seem to work. • Is there a way to enable Unicode characters in all browsers on Windows XP?

  I'd like to use unicode symbols within my website (especially Dingbats). Is there any way to enable this inside all (or at least some) browsers in Windows XP, without having the user to adjust any of his settings? I use the HTML5 doctype with the charset configured to UTF-8: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8" /> </head> <body></body> </html> The browsers recognize the charset correctly (even IE7). But no special characters are displayed. I only see an empty square box. This is the case for all of the following browsers: IE7, Safari 4, Firefox 3.5, Chrome 4.1, Opera 10.51. So, is there any way to configure to enable all (or most) unicode characters for browsers running on Windows XP?

• jQuery works in FF but not in Safari

  I have some event handlers that work in FF and not in Safari. Simply put, I have a list of friends, some hard-coded, some pulled in from a database. Clicking on a buddy opens a chat window... this is much like the Facebook chat system. So in Firefox, everything works normally and as expected. • Send Keyboard Input to VMWare from C#

  Hi. I want to send mouse clicks and keyboards keys to a window running a virtual machine such as VMware or VirtualBox. I want to pilotate it from the host OS, from an application written in C#. I can move and click the mouse. But I can't send keyboard input. I tried with SendKeys but it doesn't work. With every other "normal" window, it works. But I think it's related to how VMware or Virtual BOx intercept keyboard events. Any idea?

• Is there a Java equivalent for Ruby on Rails "url_for"?

  I have written something like this pretty easily in C# (string GetUrl(new { controller = "foo", action = "bar", baz = "fnord" }), based on the existing capabilities of the XmlRouteCollection class provided by the ASP.NET MVC framework (why it isn't there out of the box is beyond me; the additional required code was trivial). I am now faced with a JSP project, and I need the same ability: centralize the logic for generating all URLs in one place, based on a list of routing rules. Is there some code somewhere I could reuse/adapt to do this in Java? It seems like a common enough requirement, but google proved surprisingly unhelpful in finding something like this.

• SubSonic isn't generating MySql foreign key tables

  I two tables within a MySql 5.1.34 database. When using SubSonic to generate the DAL, the foreign-key relationship doesn't get scripted, ie; I have no Parent.ChildCollection object. Looking inside the generated DAL Parent class shows the following; //no foreign key tables defined (0) I have tried SubSonic 2.1 and 2.2, and various MySql 5 versions. I must be doing something wrong procedurally - any help would be greatly appreciated. This has always just worked 'out-the-box' when using MS-SQL. • Export Failed Element Log(s) after deliver?

  When a deliver has been performed I can rightlick an entry in the GUI version/element log and it displays me a popup with the element log. Quite handy. I now have a delivery with about 25 failed ones and a couple of hundred OK's. Sadly I can not sort on the column "status" so I have to make screenshots wherever I find a [!] to sit together with the specific team to find out if it is really ok to not deliver those. It would however be handy to have this list of element logs from a deliver so that I do not have to make screenshots or copy the contents of the popup box one by one but just have a list of the failed ones with the element log. Is there a way to export the element logs from a deliver (so the the ones that show up when you rightclick and choose "Display Element Log") and/or only the ones that gave failures?

• Rails application and multilingual content, Model dilemma

  I'm writing in Rails a website that will be multilingual, for the application translation part i will use the simple I18n gem, for messages and everything related. Yet, all the content must be translated, and we're talking about lots of pages, that will be stored into the database ( like articles, news, etc. ) For now, I'm thinking of two approaches: Lets say i have a Pages table, the content in diff. languages, i will be storing it in a different table called PagesContent that will belong_to Pages and also to a Languages table. The problem here, is that I'll essentially duplicate the no. of tables needed. Pros: flexibility, in the box validation To skip that duplication i can serialize a hash into the content column of Pages, containing the translation. The problem here, is validation, arguably more code to write, and less flexibility when adding a new language. Pros: Less tables. Any other idea ?
