• Plugging GlusterFS and Openfiler together

  Has anyone had experience plugging GlusterFS and Openfiler together or something similar? Here is the motivation: Disk space on multiple server regrouped using GlusterFS Centralized access using LDAP/AD and quota management using Openfiler as the GlusterFS client SMB/CIFS server for easy sharing to multiple users on Mac and Windows I know I can have Gluster installed on Openfiler (rPath Linux) successfully but Openfiler seems to be very picky on what it can use as a shared drive. Mounting the Gluster volume inside an existing share does not seem to allow quotas with the mounted folder free space. If this is not possible, is there any alternative to give the same capabilities?

• Multiple IP addresses to one NIC, but advanced IP settings window only shows one?

  The ipconfig of my Windows Server 2003 server shows that the IP addresses 10.0.0.3, 10.0.0.11, and 10.0.0.12 are assigned to it. However, when I look in the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window for that connection, I only see the IP address of 10.0.0.3 listed there. In the Support tab for the connection, it shows that it's connected through 10.0.0.12, and in the Support Details window, it shows all the previously mentioned IP addresses. Where are these phantom IP addresses being stored and how can I free them up so I don't have any IP conflicts?

• How to Host Multiple Domains / Web Sites on one IIS6 Server

  I currently have an IIS6 server that hosts one web site/domain. I am developing another web site (completely separate) that I want to host on this same server. Both domains were purchased from GoDaddy. I believe I will need a server-side ISAPI rewrite filter to internally route the incoming requests based on the domain name. I plan to use Ionic's ISAPI Rewrite Filter to do this because it is free. I know how to install the ISAPI filter and apply it to a web site in IIS, but I have no clue how I am going to route the incoming requests correctly (based on the domain). Also, I don't know if it is wise to setup multiple "Web Sites" or "Virtual Directories". I am thinking that this will depend on how the configured. How should I go about getting this accomplished?

• What about introduction to programming with C# via LINQPad?

  From different questions/answers/articles in this and some other sites, I got the idea that the introductory language for programming should be- High level Less verbose C# is one of the heavily used high level languages being used these days. It's also multi-paradigm and descendant of C, the lingua-franca of all programming languages. So, I think it has the potential to be the introductory programming language. But I felt it's a bit verbose for the novice learners. Then LINQPad came into my mind. With LINQPad, someone can start with C# without it's verbosity. Because you can just run one statement or few statements or a standalone function with LINQPad. Again you can run a full source file also. Another thing it provide is- using SQL. So, it can be used for learning SQL too. And not to mention, it's free. So, what you guys think about the idea of introducing programming with C# via LINQPad? Any thing to watch out? Any suggestion?

• How can I rip a DVD but merge/join episodes

  Some background. I have the Pink Panther Collection, they have about 30 episodes on each DVD. Now I want to watch this on my $MobileDevice. So I went and converted it to m4v or avi. This of course went splendid with both Handbrake and AutoGK but the problem is that I want ONE file per DVD, both Handbrake and AutoGK creates one file per episode. So here finally is my question. Does anyone know how to persuade Handbrake or AutoGK to create one video file with all the episodes? Or can anyone recommend another (free/cheep) tool for the job? Oh and no cheating by telling me to join the files after conversion. I have never found a video joiner that did not disappoint me (usually bad audio sync).

• My first Windows Phone 7 App: Getting SharePoint Content

  Earlier this week at the Mix10 conference, Microsoft announced the developer story of the Windows Phone 7 Series. As expected, it’s all about Silverlight! For all the details I highly recommend to watch the recorded keynotes (day 1, day 2). Tonight I could resist trying to build my very first Windows Phone 7 application; the traditional Hello World thingy. Because the developer tools (Visual Studio 2010 and the free Visual Studio 2010 Express) have pretty nice templates, that wasn’t much of a challenge. So I tried to build something real: an application that can display SharePoint 2010 content, for example items from an announcements list. I head to work my way around some limitations because both SharePoint 2010 and the developer tools are still in beta and CTP, but finally I got it working! Because of the many workarounds, the code is not yet ready for publication, but I’ve created a small screencast so you can see the result. • What database is easy to maintain and manage in a cluster?

  I'm looking for a database (DBMS) that is easy to scale out. I would like to have high availability so I need a multi-master cluster, where the data is replicated to two or more physical computers. I would also like to be able to start with one node (no replication), and then scale out to more nodes as needed without a reinstallation or downtime. I would like to have a DBMS that are easy to maintain and manage. It should be easy to add nodes, remove nodes, take live backup and monitor the use of resources. It doesn't have to be a relational database system, so a NoSQL is okey. And I would like to have a free version so I can test it in small scale and compare it with alternatives. What alternatives do I have?

• Windows Server 2008 R2 - What now?

  So I installed Windows Server 2008 R2, I have Exchange 2010 running for some mail. I installed BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express for kicks. This server runs dns/dhcp for 2 laptops. But what now? It has 200g's free on the main drive and a 150g external that I have mapped as a network drive. I am not sure what else to do with this thing. It was my main station but since my laptop is nicer I am running it headless and using the lcd monitor for it as a second monitor for the laptop when I am at home.

• Log internet requests made by vpn client

  How can I log the requests that people make to the internet when they are connected to my VPN? If one of them does something illegal, I need to be able to prove that it was not me, but a VPN client. This really is a just in case type thing. So, I want to be able to see the details (server, port, domain name, and time connected) in a file somewhere. Does windows offer this with its PPTP VPN service, or is there 3rd party software to do this (Free is better)? EDIT I have setup accounting, but that does not seem to tell me what I am looking for. Could someone comment on what accounting does? EDIT 2 Maybe I should heve been clearer. My system is running windows server 2008 r2 and using the stock VPN software (PPTP)

• Any tips for designing the invoicing/payment system of a SaaS?

  The SaaS is for real estate companies, and they can pay a monthly fee that will offer them 1000 publications but they can also consume additional publications or other services that will appear on their bill as extras. On registration the user can choose one of the 5 available plans that the only difference will be the quantity of publications their plan allows them to make. But they can pass that limit if they wish, and additional payment will be required on the next bill. A publication means: Publishing a property during one day, for 1 whole month would be: 30 publications. And 5 properties during one day would be 5 publications. So basically the user can: Make publications (already paid in the monthly fee, extra payment only if it passes the limit) Highlight that publication (extra payment) Publish on other websites or printed catalogues (extra payment) Doubts: How to handle modifications in pricing plans? Let's say quantities change, or you want to offer some free stuff. How to handle unpaid invoices? I mean, freeze the service until the payment has been done and then resume it. When to make the invoices? The idea is to make one invoice for the monthly fee and a second invoice for the extra services that were consumed. What payment methods to use? The choosen now is by bank account, and mobile phone validation with a SMS. If user doesn't pay we call that phone and ask for payment. Any examples on billing online services will be welcome! • Enable: Asp.net connection pool monitoring with performance monitor

  If this question is at the wrong forum, be free to tell me. I'm a c# developer, but I'm running in a system management issue here. Intro: Im suspecting that an asp.net application is having some issues with the connection pool and that the pool is flooding from time to time. So to make sure, I want to monitor the connection pool. After some searching I found this article : http://blog.idera.com/sql-server/performance-and-monitoring/ensure-proper-sql-server-connection-pooling-2/ Basicly it explains stuff about connection pools and how you can monitor the application pool with performance monitor. The problem: So I logged in to the asp.net server(The sql database is hosted on a different server) which hosts the website. Started performance monitor. But when I want to select 'Current # pooled and nonpooled connections', I have no instance to select. There fore I can't add it. Question How can I create/supply an instance so I can monitor the connection pool? Thanks in advance BHD

  a few hours ago, I found a link to Kickass Torrent, which is blocked in my country, Italy and went for it. The link worked just fine but wasn't able to save anything. I renounced and continued normal navigation. I then noticed that everytime I try to access some pages, for instance google.com (but not Google.it) I receive a warning from Chrome that I'm being redirected through piratenpartji.nl Since I found a similar topic here on 'superuser' I tried what was proposed in the solution, namely shutting down adblock and trying again or trying Incognito mode. Nevertheless, no result. I performed a search with both Avira and Spybot SD but except for a couple cookies from other origin nothing came up. What do you suggest I do? • Tool to fix video that's out of sync with audio?

  I'm looking for (preferably free) software for Windows 7 that will allow me to fix an AVI file that has audio out of sync with the video. I tried with Windows Live Movie Maker and VirtualDub and couldn't find out how to do it (if at all possible) on both of them. If any of those can help me, instructions for that would also be nice. Background: I have a RCA-to-USB capture card, which I'm using to transfer VHS casettes and stuff from a video camera to digital format. The problem is that the audio comes out heavily distorted. So instead I connected the audio out from the VCR directly to the computer's line in. This works, but the audio is out of sync, about half a second behind the video. I could spend time trying to fix this issuee, but I think it'll be easier to simply fix the video.

• Basic video editor for AVCHD Lite files?

  I have a camera (Panasonic Lumix GF-1) that outputs "AVCHD Lite" files, 720p h264 in a MTS container. I saw this question that said Movie Maker in Windows 7 supports AVCHD...but I just tried, and unfortunately it does not support AVCHD Lite. Are there any free or inexpensive non-linear video editors (NLE) that can natively handle AVCHD Lite files, without requiring some 3rd party driver? If not, are there any 3rd party drivers that are especially stable? (In my experience they usually have some problems...I got AVCHD Lite loading into VirtualDub using a 3rd party plugin, but it's very slow and sometimes crashes, and seeking takes ages.
