• Developing browser plug-ins?

  I have a project that I'd like to try that involves developing an internet browser plug-in. I have knowledge in Java and DHTML, but nothing in the world of browser plug-in development. I thought I would just ask here then what is the most efficient way to develop a browser plug-in? If possible, I'd like to streamline the process so that getting the plug-in to work in different browsers involves as little work as possible. Can this be done? I'm not asking for a tutorial like the trolls do, just a few pointers that's all. I don't waste mine or anyone else's time.

  I'm working through the tutorials in the "Beginning iPhone Development" book. I'm on chapter 4 and I'm getting the following compile error on the "if (segment == kShowSegmentIndex)" line: error:expected ')' before ';' token Here's my code: - (IBAction)toggleShowHide:(id)sender{ UISegmentedControl *segmentedControl = (UISegmentedControl *)sender; NSInteger segment = segmentedControl.selectedSegmentIndex; if (segment == kShowSegmentIndex) [switchView setHidden:NO]; else [switchView setHidden:YES]; } I've compared it with the code in the book several times and have retyped it. Sounds like this error is caused by improper brace placement. Any thoughts?

  Hi Everyone, I have three models that I want to interact with each other. Kase, Person and and Company. I have (I think) setup the relationships correctly: class Kase < ActiveRecord::Base #HAS ONE COMPANY has_one :company #HAS MANY PERSONS has_many :persons class Person < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :company class Company < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :persons def to_s; companyname; end I have put the select field on the create new Kase view, and the create new Person view as follows: <li>Company<span><%= f.select :company_id, Company.all %> </span></li> All of the above successfully shows a drop down menu dynamically populated with the company names within Companies. What I am trying to do is display the contact of the Company record within the kase and person show.html.erb. For example, If I have a company called "Acme, Inc." and create a new Kase called "Random Case" and choose within the create new case page "Acme, Inc." from the companies drop down menu. I would then want to display "Acme, Inc" along with "Acme, Inc. Mobile" etc. on the "Random Case" show.html.erb. I hope this makes sense to somebody! Thanks, Danny

• select from varchar2 column with numeric value sometimes gives invalid number error

  I'm trying to understand why, on some systems, I get an invalid number error message when I'm trying to select a value from a varchar2 column while on other systems I don't get the error while doing the exact same thing. The table is something like this: ID Column_1 Column_2 1 V text 2 D 1 3 D 2 4 D 3 and a query: select ID from table where column_1='D' and column_2 = :some_number_value :some_number_value is always numeric but can be null. We've fixed the query: select ID from table where column_1='D' and column_2 = to_char(:some_number_value) This original query runs fine on most systems but on some systems gives an "invalid number" error. The question is why? Why does it work on most systems and not on some?

So I've created a prototype in Silverlight 4 that should play a two mp3 files containing the same ticks sound with an intervall 1 second. So these files must be sounded as one sound if they will be played together with any whole second offsets (0 and 1, 0 and 2, 1 and 1 seconds, etc.) I my prototype I use two MediaElement (me and me2) objects. • Which is better Java programming practice: stacking enums and enum constructors, or subclassing?

  Hi folks, Given a finite number of items which differ in kind, is it better to represent them with stacked enums and enum constructors, or to subclass them? Or is there a better approach altogether? To give you some context, in my small RPG program (which ironically is supposed to be simple), a character has different kinds of items in his or her inventory. Items differ based on their type and use and effect. For example, one item of inventory is a spell scroll called Gremlin that adjusts the Utility attribute. Another item might be a sword called Mort that is used in combat and inflicts damage. In my RPG code, I now have tried two ways of representing inventory items. One way was subclassing (for example, InventoryItem - Spell - AdjustingAttributes; InventoryItem - Weapon - Sword) and instantiating each subclass when needed, and assigning values such as names like Gremlin and Mort. The other way was by stacking enums and enum constructors. For example, I created enums for itemCategory and itemSpellTypes and itemWeaponTypes, and the InventoryItem enum was like this: public enum InventoryItem { GREMLIN(itemType.SPELL, itemSpellTypes.ATTRIBUTE, Attribute.UTILITY), MORT(itemType.WEAPON, itemWeaponTypes.SWORD, 30); InventoryItem(itemType typeOfItem, itemSpellTypes spellType, Attribute attAdjusted) { // snip, enum logic here } InventoryItem(itemType typeOfItem, itemWeaponTypes weaponType, int dmg) { // snip, enum logic here } // and so on, for all the permutations of items. } Is there a better Java programming practice than these two approaches? • Could not load file or assembly error even when reference has been removed

  Could not load file or assembly 'Payflow_dotNET_2.0' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) I tried to reference the payflow SDK and got this error.But I am no longer trying to reference it. I have removed all references to this dll. and Now I am just trying to get the project to start in VS but I still get this error. I am not trying to add the dll anymore.If i have removed the reference to this, why am I still getting this error? How can I remove anything else that may still be causing my program to look for this file? Thanks!

• Select statement with multiple 'where' fields using same value without duplicating text

  I will start by saying that I don't think what I want can be done, but that said, I am hoping I am wrong and someone knows more than me. So here is your chance... Prove you are smarter than me :) I want to do a search against a SQLite table looking for any records that "are similar" without having to write out the query in long hand. To clarify this is how I know I can write the query: select * from Articles where title like '%Bla%' or category like '%Bla%' or post like '%Bla%' This works and is not a huge deal if you are only checking against a couple of columns, but if you need to check against a bunch then your query can get really long and nasty looking really fast, not to mention the chance for typos. (ie: 'Bla%' instead of '%Bla%') What I am wondering is if there is a short hand way to do this? *This next code does not work the way I want, but just shows kind of what I am looking for select * from Articles where title or category or post like '%Bla%' Anyone know if there is a way to specify that multiple 'where' columns should use the same search value without listing that same search value for every column? • Performance of Multiple Joins

  Greetings Overflowers, I need to query against objects with many/complex spacial conditions. In relational databases that is translated to many joins (possibly 10+). I'm new to this business and wondering whether to go with MS SQL Server 2008 R2 or Oracle 11g or document-based solutions such as RavenDB or simply go with some spacial database (GIS)... Any thoughts ? Regards UPDATE: Thank you all for your answers. Would anybody opt for document/spatial databases ? My database would consist of tens of millions to few billion records. Mostly read-only. Almost no updates unless in case of mistakes in input. Overnight inserts and not that frequent. The join tables are predicted beforehand but the number of self joins (tables joining themselves multiple times) is not. Small pages of results from such queries are going to be viewed on an highly interactive website so response time is critical. Any predictions on how this can perform on MS SQL Server 2008 R2 or Oracle 11g ? I'm also concerned about boosting performance by adding more servers, which one scales better ? How about PostgresQL ?

  I am developing a Java project using Eclipse. The project uses another project called engine, which I have added in my project build-path. As I need to call a dabo class, called House, in one of my project class, named Window, I have used the following code as usual: import ee.asus.kernel.House; I got however the following error in compiling time: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problems: The import ee cannot be resolved House cannot be resolved to a type House cannot be resolved to a type House cannot be resolved to a type at main.ee.asus.GUI.FrameWindow.Window.<init>(Window.java:10) at main.ee.asus.GUI.StartApplication.main(StartApplication.java:13) It's worth to point out that my prject and the dabo project use the same directory/packages names.   Hey guys, I'm in need of some help. I have a list of delimited integer values that I need to sort. An example: Typical (alpha?) sort: 1.1.32.22 11.2.4 2.1.3.4 2.11.23.1.2 2.3.7 3.12.3.5 Correct (numerical) sort: 1.1.32.22 2.1.3.4 2.3.7 2.11.23.1.2 3.12.3.5 11.2.4 I'm having trouble figuring out how to setup the algorithm to do such a sort with n number of decimal delimiters and m number of integer fields. • Play Multiple iPod Library Songs On iPhone At The Same Time With Pitch Bending & Other Effects

  Hi, I have been going at this for the past two weeks and it is driving me crazy. I asked this question a couple of days ago (Extract iPod Library raw PCM samples and play with sound effects) and whilst the answer got me half way there I am still stuck. Basically what I am trying to achieve is load up multiple songs from the iPod library for playback with effects such as pitch bend, eq effects etc... I have gone down the route of AVPlayer and AVAudioPlayer which are too simple. The only framework I've seen that can play audio with these effects is OpenAL. I have tried a few objective c wrappers (Finch and ObjectAL) Finch does not play compressed audio whilst ObjectAL will only convert it for me if I pass in a URL for the file (which is something I cannot do because I only have an incompatible iPod library URL). An example of an app that does what I want beautifilly is Tap DJ. It can load up songs from the iPod library fast (unlike TouchDJ and it plays them with all sorts of effects. Any help would be much appreciated.

• Trying to catch integrity error with sqlaclhemey

  I'm having problems with trying to catch a error. I'm using pyramid/sqlalchemy and made a sign up form with email as the primary key. The problem is when a duplicate email is entered it raises a IntegrityError, so I'm trying to catch that error and provide a message but no matter what I do I can't catch it(the error keeps appearing). try: new_user = Users(email, firstname, lastname, password) DBSession.add(new_user) return HTTPFound(location = request.route_url('new')) except IntegrityError: message1 = "Yikes! Your email already exists in our system. Did you forget your password?" I get the same message when I tried except exc.SQLAlchemyError (although I want to catch specific errors and not a blanket catch all). Is there something wrong with my python syntax? or is there something I need to do special in sqlalchemy to catch it?

  I have a GUI application which can create many similar windows on desktop. All windows have same title. I have to enumerate all dialogs with same title and make some tests against each of such dialogs. If I call: dialog = app['Window Name'] pywinauto returns a WindowSpecification object which is useful along with accessing controls by name. When I call: dialogs = app.windows_(title='Window Name') pywinauto returns me a list of HwndWrapper instances which are not so useful. How to obtain a list of windows with specified title but as WindowSpecification objects?

• Error 3032 during EF 4.0 validation

  Hi guys. I have a table that has a column called "rowguid" with default value of newguid(). After I delete the generated property in the Entity Framework 4.0 designer, whenever I try to build or validate the model I receive the following error message. Error 3023: Problem in mapping fragments starting at line 1460:Column People.rowguid in table People must be mapped: It has no default value and is not nullable. It's an obvious error message but the problem is that the column HAS default value. Does anyone knows what the problem is? Thanks.

• Single log file for multiple webapps

  In my tomcat there are multiple webapps deployed and they communicate with each other. Currently they all have their own log file. But when there is some issue comes from call I have to 1st check with the app to whom I made a call and check log file of respective apps involved in the call. So I want that, as all apps is deployed in same tomcat and sharing a common log4j, if a call made to any app then all logs should be in a single log file and no matters how my webapps are involved all error comes from any webapp during the call should be in a single log file. I have no idea how can I achieve this. So any help is appreciable. Edited: I think my question is not cleared so updated with use case: I have three webapps A, B, C having logs files as A.log, B.log and C.log. I made two calls. 1st one to A (that internally calls C) and 2nd to B (that internally calls C). Now logging of first call must be in A.log (with the logs of every step performed inside the webapp c) and second call must be in B.log (with the logs of every step performed inside the webapp c).

  Hello Friends, I have written a custom validation code in JQUERY. which is working fine. I have a login form which have two fields i.e. userid and password. I have written a custom JQUERY code for client side validation for these fields. This custom JQUERY code is working fine and gives me proper error messages as per the situation. But the problem with this code is that when I enter the invalid data in any or both field and press submit button of form then it displays the proper error message but at the same time when I checked it in Firebug it displays following error message when submit button of the form is clicked validate is not defined function onclick(event) { javascript: return validate(); }(click clientX=473, clientY=273) So please tell me where is I am wrong in my Jquery code. • Why does php show error for my SQL query

  UPDATE: My mistake - I made a typo. Nevermind this question. I'm using php to update a mysql database. The resultant query I'm using when i print it out on my webpage before executing is as follows: INSERT INTO perch2_content_items (itemOrder, regionID, pageID, itemRev, itemID, itemJSON, itemSearch ) SELECT MAX(itemOrder)+1, 105, 81, 11, 118, 'json', 'search' FROM perch2_content_items WHERE regionID=105 When I copy and paste this query directly into the phpmyadmin SQL interface, it works fine. The table gets updated. However, when I try to execute it using my php code as follows, it throws an error. $insertToPerch = "INSERT INTO perch2_content_items (itemOrder, regionID, pageID, itemRev, itemID, itemJSON, itemSearch ) SELECT MAX(itemOrder)+1, $regionID, $pageID, $regionRev, $newItemID, 'json', 'search' FROM perch2_content_items WHERE regionID=$regionID"; mysql_query(insertToPerch) or die(mysql_error()); The error I'm getting is: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'insertToPerch' at line 1 Can anybody help me figure out why it is failing.

For example I'd like to use a set of menu items from resources in ContextMenu, Window's menu and ToolBar (ToolBar with icons only, without headers). I want to catch that error and want to show error message. How I can check that the application is not instilled on mobile??

  I am trying to read certain values from a json string in php, I am able to do a simple json string with only one value such as $json = '{"value":"somevalue"}'; Using this: <?php $json = '{"value":"somevalue"}'; $obj = json_decode(json_encode($json)); print $obj->{'value'}; ?> But when i try an get a value from the following json string it throws an error... $json = '{"field": "title","rule": {"required": "true","minlength": "4","maxlength": "150" }}'; I validated the json on JSONlint but not sure how to access the values within this with php.
