    On my ubuntu 10.04 VPS, I get regular 500 error on nginx (0.7.??)+ fcgi web server running a durpal site. and when I trace the nginx error log I see plenty of these: socket() failed: No buffer space available) while connecting to upstream ..., I have tried differnt combination configs but none fixed the problem. Currently I have 3 nginx workers, Keep-alive time out 15 seconds and and PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=5 PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS=1000 I really appreciate if you Can you suggest a solution to this annoying problem.

Here's a scenario if you aren't already downvoting: Bob encrypts something about file /foo (maybe inode?) using secret key K Alice tries "sudo rm /foo" and gets permission denied, so she decrypts something about file /foo using secret key K and then "sudo rm /foo" succeeds.

Is there a UNIX tool that takes a selection parameter (id attribute or XPath), reads HTML from stdin and prints to stdout the subtree based on the selection? For example, given an html document I want to filter out everything but the subtree of the element with id="content". Basically, I'm looking for the simplest HTML/XML equivalent to grep.

    I'm learning web development. My main OS is windows 7 but I've used Linux and currently dual-booting with Ubuntu. My Linux knowledge however, is pretty limited. I can work with the command line on simple tasks but that's pretty much it. I don't do any shell scripting, don't know very well the most important commands, nor the system in general. I am interested in web development. Should I get myself familiarized more with Linux ? Is it a must for future job positions considering my field of interest?

    Most academic researchers I know target just *nix, and rely on Cygwin to make their applications available on Windows. I have tried many of these projects and always found them too unstable for serious use when running on Cygwin. Uwin looks like a promising alternative to Cygwin. I haven't tried it yet, but I found several comments that it is faster and more stable. However, I haven't seen any use of Uwin to support running *nix apps on Windows. What are the social and/or technical reasons behind Uwin's lack of popularity?

    I have a Windows Service that does the following when started. When running via a Console application it works fine, but once I put in a Windows Service I get the below exception.     Are there any important change in how SLES 10 implements Tcp sockets vs. SLES 9? I have several apps written in C# (.NET 3.5) that run on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. They've been running fine for over a year, getting market data from a SLES 9 machine using a socket connection. The machine was upgraded today to SLES 10 and its causing some strange behavior. The socket normally returns a few hundred or thousand bytes every second. But occasionally, I stop receiving data. Ten or more seconds will go by with no data and then Receive returns with a 10k+ bytes. And some buffer is causing data loss because the bytes I receive on the socket no longer make a correct packet. The only thing changed was the SLES 9 to 10 upgrade. And rolling back fixes this immediately. Any ideas?

  • What does "infinity" really mean on a connection timeout? Does it retry the connection?

    The difference between connection and read timeout, is that read specifies how long the data connection can be open until it automatically closesc, correct? A connection timeout specifies how long the socket should wait until a connection is established, correct? So if a connection timeout is set to "infinity" what does that really mean? Will it try to establish a connection and if no response is given (as on packets are lost? or port is down?) it will just idle? or will Could someone please explain the basics of network/socket timeouts? and in what situation can a client socket wait infinity?

    Hi, I'm trying to use the Java commands pw.println() and br.readLine() in Matlab because I have set up a socket (input_socket2) between Matlab and a command-line program I want to control using Java classes BufferedReader and PrintWriter. Before the following snippet of code, I implemented another socket that goes between 2 computers. This works great and I also know that the following snippet of code successfully opens up a communication line between Matlab and the other program. However, Matlab throws an error at pw.println('noop').     I have 2 interfaces on my server, eth0 and eth0:0. Those are 2 different external ips and obviously 2 different reverse domains. When i open a IO::Socket::INET Perl uses the eth0 interface by default. I would like to use the second interface (eth0:0) because this has a different ip and i dont want to use my main ip/domain. I have absolutely no idea how to select which interface to connect through.
