• Online compilers/runtime for Java, C++, Python and ObjC?

  Does anyone know of a good online compiler/runtime (for C++, Java, Python, ObjC etc.) that I can access on the web? What I'm looking for is something that would allow me to type in a program in a web form and to run the program and see the results online. (Let's not get into the why for now. Suffice it to say for the moment that I don't always have access to a compiler/runtime, and firing up an IDE is just overkill for testing out some code snippets) I know of codepad.org -- but I'm looking for something better.

• MySQL Query, Date Range From "Blacklist"

  I have 2 databases. One is properties and the other is dates. In dates I have associated the land_id and a date (In YYYYMMDD format) which means that the date is not available. I need to formulate a query that a user can specify a start and end date, and then choose a property for which dates are available (not in the date database). How do airline and hotel websites do this kind of logic? I was thinking about taking the date range and picking all days in between and doing a query where the dates do not match and ordering it by number of results, but I can see how that could easily turn into an intense query. • Delphi: How to localize description for a menu shortcut?

  Is there a way to get a localized description of a shortcut like Ctrl+Z so that I get "Ctrl+Z" if the app runs on an English system and "Strg+Z" on a German system? The VCL function ShortCutToText isn't internationalized. The API function GetKeyNameText is a bit better but still not perfect: If one switches the regional settings of a German XP to English (US), it still produces German texts. Besides the results are in CAPITALS which is ugly. Clarification: I know how I can replace ShortCutToText or the Smkc* resource strings with customized versions. But to use that I need the translated strings. And I would like to get these from the OS (or similar). Update: It looks like Microsoft expects developers to do the translation on their own - see 2. in Associating a Menu Item with an Accelerator Key.

Not sure what command or filters available (as ? in above) so that I can get each name and only the max value for the name out?

• Why can't I open a new window on my jquery ajax callback?

  to show my problem in a couple examples... THIS WORKS $.post("SomePage.aspx", { name : "value" }, function (data) { alert(data); }, "text"); THIS DOESN'T WORK $.post("SomePage.aspx", { name : "value" }, function (data) { window.open("http://www.google.com"); }, "text"); In the first example, I get alerted with what i'm expecting. In the second example, nothing happens. No window is opened. If I add an alert or something before or after the window.open call, the alert works fine, but the window doesn't open. If I add a window.open completly after the $.post method, the window opens fine (of course this doens't help me at all). I'm wondering why I can't open a window in the callback. What do I have to do to be able to open a window? I'd like to open a window to show some fancy results. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

• Resizing the imageView in a UITableView

  Hi! I Created a grouped table view, and I noticed that placing an image in the imageView results in an image that is too large. It overlaps the rounded borders of the cell, which is horrible. I tried looking for a way to resize it, but I found many answers that didn't quite satisfy me. How would you do this? Which is the simplest way to go? The solutions I found where strangely complicated. Thanks!

  My DBA has constructed me a stored procedure in a Sybase database, for which I don't have the definition. If I run it, it returns a resultset with a set of columns and values. I would like to SELECT further to reduce the rows in the result set. Is this possible? From this question it seems like I could insert the results into a temporary table, but I'm not sure I've got permissions to do this. Is there any way I can SELECT certain rows, or if not, can someone give me example code for simulating with a temporary table?

• Resize a DIV when its text changes

  I wanted to build a custom html button without using any solution like bootstrap etc. but from scratch. I decided to use a div to build my button with very good results. However, when the text changes its length that does not mean the div will change its width as well. Should I approach this using javascript or is there a CSS solution I am missing. Apologies for missing code: div { position: relative; width: 121px; height: 30px; } I need a minimum width and not a dynamic this is why I used a fixed one. In case there is not a CSS alternative then I will use a javascript approach.

• Proper use of use of "cor" function in R

  I am interested to know what a proper x (vector matrix or data frame) input looks like. I am currently using the function in two different sorts of matrices. However, I am not sure how R would interpret my data the way I intend. I will explain the types of matrix by example. Type 1 Gene1 Gene2 Gene3 sample1 sample2 Type 2 Sample1 Sample2 Sample3 gene 1 gene 2 gene 3 Are either of these formats valid x parameters? I input both of types of matrices and get some results, but without knowing whether or not this a proper use the function, these are just random numbers. Thank you for your time.   I'm making a little java game in which I would have two threads (well as the FIRST step towards multithreading...), one for the logic and one for the drawing. So my question is: How can I make those two communicating which each other? Requirements: accessing variables and object from a another thread syncing them so they each complete a same number of "loops" in the same time. (the logic calculates and then the another one draws the results and the loop begins again...) So how is this achievable in java? Thanks in advance!

• Displaying conditional amount of fields in UI (Android)

  I am using layout xml documents for my ui controls. I need to create and remove these controls (input fields) on the fly, based on how many results I get back from my database. For each group, there can be 0..* fields and these are prepopulated from the database. Also, it would be good if I can invoke a method to create an additional field; something like the address book, where you can click + or - to add or remove a phone or other detail. In a "psuedo" style, I'm guessing something like this: Check database - How many of X are there [y]? Create Y fields. The user may then add new fields, so once I click submit i need to apply all of that to database. Any examples or hints greatly welcomed. Hope this make sense! :)

• Are there design-time watch windows for Visual Studio 2008/2010?

  There are many times when I need to test a little snippet of .net code but rebuilding and publishing the entire project or writing a suite of unit tests just seems like overkill. For example, I am writing a regular expression right now and I want to see if it the pattern is matching on the right parts. I could go and find a million other utilities that do that sort of thing, but that is not exactly my point. FireBug has an exact analogue to what I want - the FireBug console. There is a text box where the user can enter some JavaScript and FireBug will execute it on the spot and display the return value. I would love to be able to enter something like (new Regex("b+")).Replace("abc", "x") and see the results without having to do all the overhead. Does VS have anything like this?

  My code tries to replace "," with "/" in a string. Should I escape "," in the regex string? Both of the two code snippets generated the same results, so I am confused. Code snippet 1: String test = "a,bc,def"; System.out.println(test.replaceAll("\\,", "/")); Code snippet 2: String test = "a,bc,def"; System.out.println(test.replaceAll(",", "/")); Should I use "," or "\,"?   I have a survey database with one column for each question and one row for each person who responds. Each question is answered with a value from 1 to 3. Id Quality? Speed? -- ------- ----- 1 3 1 2 2 1 3 2 3 4 3 2 Now, I need to display the results as one row per question, with a column for each response number, and the value in each column being the number of responses that used that answer. Finally, I need to calculate the total score, which is the number of 1's plus two times the number of 2's plus three times the number of threes. Everything seems to be working, and I'm casting columns into specific types based on the column type in Oracle. The problem I'm having has to do with null dates. I can't seem to find a good way to capture that a date column in Oracle has a null value. Is there any way to cast a [datetime] as null or empty?

  What is the idea behind Grasp's Controller pattern? My current interpretation is that sometimes you want to achieve something that needs to use a couple of classes but none of those classes could or has access to the information needed to do it, so you create a new class that does the job, having references to all the needed classes(this is, could be the information expert). Is this a correct view of what Grasp's Controller is about? Generally when googling or SO'ing controller, I just get results about MVC's (and whatnot) which are topics that I don't understand about, so I'd like answers that don't assume I know ASP.NET's MVC or something :( Thanks

  I have a server program running a java binary code (xx.jar file) While it is running I erranously delete the xx.jar file. The program continues to run. But I am not sure if the results will be correct, and I am not sure if the program will fail? When I delete the xx.jar file, the program was in a method for a long time and still it is in that method call. When it calls another method call will my program fail? I am asking this question because If deleting the file has no harm I will be gaining about 3-4h on a server machine

• C/C++ detect network type

  I need to write a win32 c/c++ application which will be able to determine whether the PC it's running on is connected to one of 2 networks. The first network is the company LAN (which has no internet connection) and the second network is a standalone switch with a single PC connected to it (the PC that the program is running on). I'm pretty new to network programming but so far I have tried testing to see if a network drive which is held on our LAN can be mapped. This works fine if the PC is connected to the LAN, the drive mapping succeeds so so LAN detection is successful. However, if the PC is connected to the switch, this results in a VERY long timeout which is not a suitable as it will delay the program so much as to make it unusable. Does anyone have any alternative suggestions? I'm using c/c++ in VS 6.0

• After 30 seconds, update MYSQL databse

  Hello everyone! I've been looking around here on SO and Googling, however I can't find anything that fits my description. What I want to do is update the database if the page has not been refreshed after 30 seconds. I want to email a person with the contents of a form {submitted by a different user} (I can do that) IF the person has NOT visited the page (I can do that) within the last 30 seconds. What I've tried to do is make the page that should be visited refresh every 30 seconds, and so I figured if I did something like after 31 seconds, edit the database (so if the refreshed page was not refreshed, the database editing would run). I'm sorry if this sounds complicated, there's probably a better way to do this, but I'm not sure how. The bigger picture is I'm trying to make a 'on-duty' sort of thing, so that if the person is not actively looking at the page, they will get emailed with whatever the contents of the form is. The page will contain a table of all the entered form results.

• Copying a database into a new database including structure and data

  In phpMyAdmin under operations I can "Copy database to:" and select Structure and data CREATE DATABASE before copying Add AUTO_INCREMENT value I need to be able to do that without using phpMyAdmin. I know how to create the database and user. I have a source database that's a shell that I can work from so all I really need is the how to copy all the table structure and data part. (I know, the harder part) system() & exec() are not options for me which rules out mysqldump. (I think) How can I loop through each table and recreate it's structure and data? Is it just looping through the results of SHOW TABLES then for each table looping through DESCRIBE tablename Then, is there an easy way for getting the data copied?
