• Securing against dynamic linking in .NET

  I want to deploy an application with a license attached. However, I want to prevent that my dll can be easily referenced in visual studio. What are the usual ways of doing this? I was thinking about ngen-ing the application to prevent this, however, then the code becomes architecture dependent. Im not targetting any other architecture/platform besides windows, however, ngen-ing the application after making a release build seems like a workaround to me. Are there any other techniques to achieve this?

  In our Ant build environment, I have to do the same task for a number of items. The AntContrib foreach task is useful for that. However, the list is in a parameter, where I actually have the list in a file. How can I iterate over items in a file in an foreach-like way in Ant? Something like (pseudo-code): <foreach target="compile-module" listFromFile="$fileWithModules"/> I'm happy to write a custom Task, and welcome any suggestion on possible solutions.

  I'm looking for some way of using the number-crunching ability of a GPU (with Java perhaps?) in addition to using the multiple cores that the target machine has. I will be working on implementing (at present) the A* Algorithm but in the future I hope to replace it with a Genetic Algorithm of sorts. I've looked at Project Fortress but as I'm building my GUI in JavaFX, I'd prefer not to stray too far from a JVM. Of course, should no feasible solution be available, I will migrate to the easiest solution to implement.

• SNMP from the browser

  There"s this idea of having a web app search for devices in the network (with elevated user permissions, of course). Checking the silverlight and flash APIs, there does not seem to be a way to do SNMP ( the UDP APIs are limited to multicasting media ). Anyone know a clever workaround? In windows, a small XBAP utility can do the SNMP stuff, but that leaves out the Mac OS X platform. Thanks for any ideas. ( I do have a SO account but I"m in a not so trustworthy public PC right now so I didn"t log in. )

• AVD Screen orientation not changing with CTRL+F11 or CTRL+F12

  I run my app in the AVD emulator using eclipse but I'm unable to change the screen orientation in the AVD (Android 2.0 platform on the emulator). When I press CONTROL+F11 or CONTROL+F12 on the keyboard, nothing happens. No messages are generated in the adb debuglog/logcat either when I press either hotkey. According to http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/emulator.html these are the correct hotkeys to switch the emulator's screen orientation. I tried it with my app, and with the messaging app. The hotkey has no affect in any case. I'm running Fedora 12, Gnome. I checked my Keyboard Shortcuts in the System - Preferences menu, nothing's attached to either hotkey. Same problem, 3 different PCs (all running Fedora Gnome).

  Situation: I have an Eclipse RCP Application, which I am trying to build with tycho plugin for Eclipse. When I am executing my Eclipse Application inside of the IDe - the Application is executed normally. When using tycho to build the Application - the following error is thrown: The type org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Button cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files What I did : In other cases where a "missing requirenments" exception was thrown, which I found - a missing transitive plugin-dependency was the reason. In my case an SWT widget "Button" is missing, so I am trying to import swt. SWT is platform dependant so I am importing swt inside of the product, as described here. Anyway, during compilation the error occurs again. Question: Do someone have any Idea, how to solve this Problem?

• System.Drawing.Image for Images in Business Objects?

  Hi Folks I'd like to store an image in a business object. In MSDN I saw that the System.Drawing-namespace provides lots of GDI+-features, etc. Is it okay to store an Image in an System.Drawing.Image class in business layer (which is a class library "only"), and thus including a reference to System.Drawing too? I slightly feel just kind of bad doing that, 'cause it seems like I have UI-specific references in business code. Moreover, the code could become unnecessarily platform-dependant (though this is only a problem in theory, because we do not develop for multiple platforms). If it isn't right that way, which type would fit best? Thank you for any response! Matthias

• License problem embedding Mono?

  I'd like to embed Mono into an .exe file but the problem is the license, because a LGPL library can only be linked with LGPL code. However, I'd like to build a commercial app, so I ask if is possible to use a stub that launches a DLL version of the Mono runtime and executes my app. Or do you know a better way to do this? I need a cross-platform framework and Mono seems good, but there are some problem to pack it in one file, so you know a "free" way to do this?

  Hi, I have a server with Windows Server 2008. I want to install a new Windows Server 2008 R2 on a new hard disk but on a same machine. What is the way to backup/migrate only Active Directory? I found that migration must be done with Microsoft Active Directory Migration Tool, but it requires both source and target domains running at the same time. Any other suggests are to use an ordinary system backup/restore, but this will restore all other roles, whereas I need only Active Directory role on the new server.

• How do you get notified of your repos' updates?

  I'm working on several repositories at work and would like to be informed, if anything changes in the SVN repositories. I made a small BAT script (yes, BAT is usefull sometimes) that keeps executing an svn log -r BASE:HEAD on my working copy. It shows all submit comments and revision dates. It works really well but it's not comfortable for different repositories. How do you keep track of changes in your repositories? Do you use a small program you made for yourself? Do you use software someone else made? I'm interested in every approach to this problem. I would like to get notifications and several more information about the commit. The IDE integrated functions are good, but work only if I request the information. I don't want to act to get this information. Platform: Windows, Subversion 1.5 and higher.

• how can I develop Apple Java Extensions on Windows?

  When I do multi-platform testing on Windows it gets annoying that Eclipse shows errors in the project because of the com.apple.eawt code that I have in a special Mac customization task. Worse yet, if I export a runnable jar on Windows, it won't run on mac because of the unresolved compilation problems. What's the best way to let Windows Java and com.apple.eawt live in peace? I can't see how I would be able to spin off the code to a jar, since it requires access to lots of the program's state. Thanks for your help! • Adding Boost Library to a C++ project in Windows Eclipse

  I recently installed the Boost Library on Windows using the installer, I'm trying to link to the library in Eclipse but am not having any luck. I tried going through Project Properties - C/C++ Build - Settings - MinGW C++ Linker - Libraries and add the reference "boost_filesystem" according to this website: http://www.ferdychristant.com/blog//archive/DOMM-76JN6N , but I think that only applies to Unix variants. Everytime I compile I get the error: "cannot find -lboost_filesystem" . I've scoured the net, but cannot find a way to properly use Boost in Eclipse under a Windows platform. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

  I currently have a GridPanel with the Ext.ux.RowEditor plugin. Four fields exist in the row editor: port, ip address, subnet and DHCP. If the DHCP field (checkbox) of the selected row is checked, I need to make the other three fields un-editable. I've been trying to perform this code when the beforeedit event is triggered, but to no avail... I've only found ways to make the entire column un-editable. • How to pass data to another droid device when the other device isn't expecting it

  I am working on an application and one feature that would make it really useful is the ability to share some information, but the other device may not be expecting the data to be sent. For example, if I am reading a really good book, and I realize that a friend may like it, I could use an application to send the data to him, so he could order the book from Amazon. But, since he isn't expecting the data, I would hate for the application to be polling a server every so often, as that will be needlessly draining the battery. Ideally it would be great if there was a way to make a phone call to the target device, send a data packet and end the call. If it could be done and prevent the phone from ringing, then it would be very useful to me. I am curious if there is some way to send data between devices without polling.

• .Net with single .exe without .NET Framework installation

  I wrote my simple desktop program in C#. I am reluctant to distribute it on the internet because i am not sure if users will go through pain of installing the .Net Framework. My target users are non-tech savvy users. I am very familiar with MFC and I probably can write this program in MFC in a month. MFC is nice because I don't have to worry about distributing other components. It will be one nice single executable. So my real question is this: Is it possible to write .Net app without worrying about distributing .Net Framework?   Hello All, I have a 32bit iMac that I am writing an iPhone app in Xcode with, and I was wondering if I saved my project to a flash drive and dropped it on my MacBookPro which is 64 bit and continued to code the iPhone project on my laptop in Xcode would this cause a problem? I don't see how it would since the target is not for either of those computers, but I thought I would ask since I would like to work on the project when I am not always around my iMac.   I'm trying to write some Elisp code to format a bunch of legacy files. The idea is that if a file contains a section like "<meta name=\"keywords\" content=\"\\(.*?\\)\" />", then I want to insert a section that contains existing keywords. If that section is not found, I want to insert my own default keywords into the same section. I've got the following function: (defun get-keywords () (re-search-forward "<meta name=\"keywords\" content=\"\\(.*?\\)\" />") (goto-char 0) ;The section I'm inserting will be at the beginning of the file (or (march-string 1) "Rubber duckies and cute ponies")) ;;or whatever the default keywords are When the function fails to find its target, it returns Search failed: "[regex here]" and prevents the rest of evaluation. Is there a way to have it return the default string, and ignore the error?

  I'm quite new with this topic so any help would be great. What i need is to optimize a neural network in MATLAB by using GA. My network has [2x98] input and [1x98] target, i've tried consulting matlab help but im still kind of clueless about what to do :( so, any help would be appreciated. • C# MDX RenderToSurface, where to reset after device is lost?

  Hi, I got a problem with the RenderToSurface class. When I resize the Form of my Device, the Draw method is still called, but doesnt throw an Exception, it looks like this: device.Clear(ClearFlags.Target, Color.Red, 0, 0); device.BeginScene(); // here is out commented code device.EndScene(); device.Present(); In another method, I wrote this: renderToSurface.BeginScene(surfaces[currentIndex]); // here is out commented code renderToSurface.EndScene(Filter.None); and this method seems to throw a nullpointer exception when I resize the window; So my question is: - where to reset / restore / handle the renderToSurface class?
