• How to solve this problem starting new Opera-windows on dual monitor-setup?

  I use Opera and have a setup with two monitors. If I want to open a new URL opera -newwindow URL. The outcome differs, if I execute this command in a program on the same screen where Opera is, or on the other. On the same screen everything is fine. I get the message opera: Activated running instance and the new window with the URL is opened. On the other screen, I get a dialog with the following message: It appears another opera instance is using the same configuration directory because its lock file is active: /home/(my name)/.opera/lock and the URL is not shown. That's not only from console, also if I click a link in E-Mail or so. How can I fix this? Window-manager is awesome, if it does make a difference.

• Mouse and keyboard stop working after suspend or screensaver lock

  If I leave the computer and let it run into screensaver and lock the screen, the mouse left click won't go back to work. If I suspend the computer, the keyboard won't get back to work. It started after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04. Any tips to solve this problem? • Linux Mint Cinamon 17 Qiana, Xfce desktop background problem [on hold]

  I've installed Xfce4 on my laptop which runs Linux Mint 17 with Cinamon default desktop. Everything works OK and I customized my lightweight Xfce, like change menu location and desktop background that it is similar to my Cinamon desktop and used it for a while. Suddenly after last restart my desktop background becomes black and there is no option for desktop background change when I right click on desktop. I should mention that xfdesktop & didn't help, which tells it's already running. Some icons like Computer, Home and Oracle VM that was already there is showing, but my Trash or other icons did not. I've tried everywhere in xfce4-settings-manager but could not get my desktop background back

• Wifi networks will not show up!

  I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 on an old '08 macbook. I've gone to system settingsSoftware & UpdatesAdditional Drivers and enabled the wireless driver. But when I click the wifi icon on the top toolbar no networks show up. When running lshw it clearly shows my wireless card under Network controller and it says the driver is installed. However, nm-tool only shows ethernet. And rfkill only shows bluetooth. What can I do?

• Elantech trackpad being identified as a logitech wheel mouse.

  I recently purchased a Samsung RF510 laptop computer, which I absolutely love. However, upon installing Ubuntu 10.10 onto it I couldn't get the trackpad to function properly. It worked as a basic mouse (point and click) but had no functionality for edge scrolling or any of the multitouch settings the trackpad is capable of. After doing a lot of research I discovered the reason is a known issue where the Ubuntu kernel will improperly detect an Elantech trackpad as a logitech PS/2 wheel mouse, and as such will gain none of the functionality that seems to be coded for synaptics trackpads. The question I have is: does anyone know a way to get this working properly? This is my first time trying to run Ubuntu on a laptop (actually, it's my first laptop in the last 12 years) and I'm finding the experience to be intolerable without the basic scrolling/zooming/etc I've been used to using for as long as I can remember.

• gnome-file-share-properties doesn't work

  I've configured gnome-file-share-properties on all my Ubuntu's PC for sharing the directory Public to each other. I following some guide found on Internet for the configuration of it, all explain the same procedure but in my case I don't see any Public directory shared with the PC. Following this link http://library.gnome.org/users/gnome-user-share/stable/gnome-user-share-getting-started.html.en I'd see the directory Public plus the name of PC that shares its directory on Nautilus Places. In my case I don't see anything, therefore on the Network place see all the machines 'n if I try to click on one receive this: "DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" note: I don't want to use Samba because I've all Ubuntu PC, and the firewall is disabled on all PC.

• Ubuntu 14.04 VLC Subtitles - Will not attach (unable to drag/drop or upload while viewing)

  I'm new to Ubuntu and a long time user of VLC with the Windows OS. In Windows, I was able to drag and drop the .sfv file onto the playing video and the subtitles would be enabled. In Ubuntu I try to drag and drop the .sfv file and it acts as though the .sfv file is a video and stops the actual video from playing. When I try to attach the .sfv file (view - subtitles - select text subtitles) I'm able to see the .sfv file I'd like to attach/open, although once I click open the file doesn't attach itself to the video. Does anyone know how to help me with this situation? I'm 2 seasons deep into Breaking Bad and attempting to read the body language of the characters during the Spanish parts has gone on way too long. • PHP city-sim castle layout

  I am currently contemplating the layout system for my php based game but i've run into a couple of worries. So my idea is a 9X9 grid where the center 3X3 are inner castle. The inner castle will be 6X6 if you enter it(click on it). and with the option to expand the inner castle converting one of the 9X9 tiles to a 4X4 inner castle tile. So here is my question: What is the best way to tackle this type of layout? my original idea was a 18X18 grid and saving it in the db as (idCastle, Y, X) where X is a string of 18 numbers long telling me if the tile is an inner/outer tile or a inner/outer building. but i am not really fond of this idea and would like to hear some other ideas on how to tackle this. • Why is it taking so long to open the Ubuntu Help Center?

  When I click on the Help Center Icon in the 'System' menu, it takes more than a minute to launch the program. More than a minute, for a text only program seeming like a website! All my other programs work fine, and I saw this problem also on other computers. Is there a reason for this? Will it be fixed? I think it is an important issue for beginners. What I know I can track is: -what products people view on my website (default Google Analytics pageview behaviour). -what affiliate links people click on my website (with GA _trackEvent). What am I missing is: -what products people end up buying after clicking on the affiliate links. Does the Amazon affiliate program offers you any mechanism for linking a purchase with some data from your website? I noticed that I was able to add custom parameters and values to my affiliate links and the link checker was still happy with them, if Amazon gave the links that initiated an order then I would be able to cross reference the orders using custom parameters...

  I am learning LWJGL so i can start working on my game. In order to learn LWJGL I got the idea to implement the map builder so I can get comfortable with graphics programming. Now, for the map creation tool I need to draw new elements or draw the old one's with different coordinates. Let me explain this: My game will be a 2D scroller. The map will be consisting of multiple rectangles ( 2 strip triangles). When I click my left-mouse button i want to start the rectangle and when I release it I want to stop the rectangle bottom-right at that position. As I want to use VBOs I want to know how to modify data inside the VBO based on user input. Should i have a copy of a vertex array and then add the whole array to the VBO at each user input? How is usually implemented the VBO update?

• After changing web host, I get a 'file does not exist' error

  I run a WordPress blog, and have recently changed web hosts. When changing web hosts, I copied all files and exported/imported the database etc as explained by lots of tutorials found easily on Google. The blog home page works fine. What goes wrong: When I click on any link from the home page, the browser gets stuck in a redirect loop. Looking at the error log, I see: File does not exist: /usr/local/apache/htdocs/index.php The directory /usr doesn't even exist for my website - so perhaps this is looking for a file that was present using my old Web Host and is no longer present with my new web host? What is going on, and how might I resolve it?

  Is it possible to modify the default desktop icons position so that icons move a little bit to right. If yes, how? As far as I know, there is no tweak for that in Nautilus. When I click "Organize Desktop by Name", the icons get aligned to the left of Desktop: that's fine, but they're too close to the launcher when it's in AUTO HIDE mode. So when Launcher is revealed, it comes over icons. Reproduce: Download some files from your browser or copy files/folders from a folder to the desktop, then these latter will be placed just like the screenshot. Their position is fine when the launcher is hidden, but when revealed, it hides a part of the icons. There is no problem when LAUNCHER AUTO-HIDE MODE is disabled. Thanks in advance.

• Why does 12.04 freeze when using multiple desktops?

  I am using 12.04 32-bit, upgraded from 11.10. Within the last week and a half Unity has hung on me with no option but a hard reboot, which I hate. It usually happens when I am using multiple desktops and applications and switching desktops. The screen just hangs, sometimes broken between desktops and applications, I can move my mouse but cannot click on anything. alt+f2 , HUD , super+w/s/d and alt+tab/~ does nothing, they do not activate. I let it rest for 15-20 minutes in hopes it will sort itself out but nothing. I'd hate to move to Unity 2D, but I can't risk having to do hard reboots/shutdowns, or moving to a different DE. Other information: the only PPA's I have added recently would be the word lens. 2.8GB RAM processor : 0 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 15 model : 127 model name : AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1250 stepping : 2 microcode : 0x83 cpu MHz : 1000.000

• Skype does not save user configuration

  On Ubuntu 10.10, I have recently started to experience this problem: For some reason Skype won't save any settings except "Sign in on startup". When Skype starts and tries to sign in it is unsuccessful (it shows incorrect password, in red) every time (I have provided the correct password). I always have to click to show contacts in groups, it does not remember it. Every time I have to go to options and update some notification settings. I know all these things should be "remembered" by Skype - this problem started only recently. I don't recall fiddling with any permissions that could have likely caused that. Do you know what the problem might be? I uninstalled (marking for complete configuration removal) and re-installed Skype, but it still remembers my username (why??). Can I find Skype configuration files on the filesystem somewhere and change permissions for them - or even better - edit the files to set what I want?

  I'm looking to create a comparison and ranking system which allows users to view 2 items, click on the one that they feel is the better one and then get presented with 2 more random items and continue to do this until they decide to stop. In the background, I want the system to use these wins and loses to rank each item in an overall ranking table so I can then see what is #1 and what isn't. I haven't got a clue where to begin with the formula, but I image I need to log wins and loses. Any help/direction appreciated!

• can't download music files purchased with ubuntu one from rhythmbox

  I used the link to Ubuntu One in Rhythmbox music player to purchase music. On the My Downloads page from Ubuntu One in the Rhythmbox it shows each of the files I purchased with and mp3 button and an AAC button. I should be able to download the files from these buttons but when I click on the button nothing happens - I was expecting a download manager to open up. I also was expecting the files to be transferred to my UbuntuOne account but don't see anything there either. (this is probably a second question) I am using 12.04 beta version of Ubuntu and the version of Rhythmbox that came with it: 2.96. Do I need to install something to be able to download these links? Thanks.
