  • Excel Save fails in Windows 7

    - by Karthik
Hi, I have created an application to interact with Excel in C#.net The API to save the Excel Excel._Workbook m_oWorkBook; m_oWorkBook.Save(); Throws up a File Saveas MessageBox though the workbook was already saved in a given name. Note: This happens only in Windows 7 & only when another Workbook was already opened. Any clues.

  • Good way to create PDF from Office documents in Java

    - by Sindri Traustason
I'm looking for a good way to convert Office (mostly Microsoft) documents to PDF in Java. I've been looking at using the OpenOffice SDK but from the samples I've looked at it looks like this requires having OpenOffice running in server mode to do the work. Does anyone know of a good way to do this? Good meaning the less external requirements, the better. A 100% Java API would be best, but I don't expect that actually exists.

  • Mitigating the 'firesheep' attack at the network layer?

    - by pobk
What are the sysadmin's thoughts on mitigating the 'firesheep' attack for servers they manage? Firesheep is a new firefox extension that allows anyone who installs it to sidejack session it can discover. It does it's discovery by sniffing packets on the network and looking for session cookies from known sites. It is relatively easy to write plugins for the extension to listen for cookies from additional sites. From a systems/network perspective, we've discussed the possibility of encrypting the whole site, but this introduces additional load on servers and screws with site-indexing, assets and general performance. One option we've investigated is to use our firewalls to do SSL Offload, but as I mentioned earlier, this would require all of the site to be encrypted. What's the general thoughts on protecting against this attack vector? I've asked a similar question on StackOverflow, however, it would be interesting to see what the systems engineers thought.

  • rsync windows to linux permission denied

    - by user64908
Using Command rsync -avzP --delete --omit-dir-times ../../ [email protected]:/var/www/mysite/ I'm getting rsync: mkstemp "/var/www/mysite/.." failed: Permission denied (13) If ext is in the www-data group should I still set all the files to be owned by user www-data? I am trying to publish the files with rsync and then set the permissions using sudo chown -R www-data doc sudo chgrp -R www-data doc but I can't even rsync because of the permission denied. The SSH works fine, the rsync too except when it tries to write over or update some of the files in /var/www Client * Windows 7 * Cygwin 1.7.16 (GNU bash, version 4.1.10(4)-release (i686-pc-cygwin)) * rsync version 3.0.9 protocol version 30 Server * Ubuntu 12.04 * Apache2 * Root Accounts [ubuntu, ext] * Groups [www-data] * sudo vigr has www-data:x:33:ubuntu,ext I have already configure this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2124169/cwrsync-ignores-nontsec-on-windows-7 This article has also managed to confuse me http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/41687/how-should-i-rsync-files-in-var-www-if-i-want-them-to-be-owned-by-www-data What is the right procedure?

  • How Netbeans Editors know that file is not modified after undo?

    - by Ha
Netbeans uses standart UndoManager API for implementation of undo functionality. But neither standart javax.swing.undo.UndoManager nor org.openide.awt.UndoRedo.Manager doesn't have any method to mark states as saved and check modified status. Nonetheless if you change the file and press undo, the file is marked as unmodified. How do they do that? I need the same functionality for my (non-text) editors if the Netbeans RCP application.

  • VMware event hooks in .NET

    - by Henry Jackson
I'm developing an in-house .NET application that will be run on a VM (with VMware), and want to know if there's a way to get notifications from VM system events (like suspending, resumed, etc.) Anyone know of a convenient way to do that? The virtual machine has VMware Tools installed, does that provide a .NET API for hooking events?

Any help or advice will be great. Thanks.

  • 64 bit Windows 7 + 32 bit windows XP dual boot?

    - by Mick
I have purchased an i7 based PC pre-installed with 64 bit windows 7 (home premium). Unfortunately some third party 32 bit software that I need to use is not working properly (see stackoverflow.com for details). I am now torn between the plan of installing windows XP 32 bit or making it dual boot. Which option do you think will give me the least problems? And if the answer is dual boot, then can you point me to a good guide for how to do it, preferably a guide specifically for my two OS's created in this order (i.e. 7x64 first). EDIT: the performance of my 32bit programs is critical so am concerned about any kind of 32bit XP "emulation".
