  • Jquery Dropdown queue problem

    Hello, I have created a drop down with JQuery that can be seen here by clicking the Preview button on top: http://jsbin.com/ubire3/edit It works fine except for one problem. When i hover over the main hover links (blue ones) quickly eg going horizontally quickly hovering each top menu, the some submenus don't close. How do i make it so that even if i hover fast over them all other submenus are closed? Thanks.

    What are pros and cons of this technique (see Softfolio for an example). Two things I personally thought of are as follows: Impossible to tell someone where an item of interest is located (like, you probably won't say "324-th row, second column") Broken navigation when you return back to an infinitely scrolled page. What else can you think of? And what do you personally think of this approach in general. Would you use this in you projects?

  • Detecting file upload size on the client side?

    I'm using PHP for file uploads. In the PHP manual it shows an example using a MAX_FILE_SIZE hidden field, saying that it will detect on the client side (i.e. the browser) whether the file is too large or not. I've just tried the example in Firefox, Chrome and IE and it doesn't work. The file is always uploaded, even if it is way larger than the specified hidden field. Incidentally, if the file is larger than MAX_FILE_SIZE then calling move_uploaded_file doesn't work, so it seems the variable is having an effect server-side, but not client-side.

This information is obtained via an input text area box and we would prefer that the browser doesn't auto correct and indicate grammatical errors on the student responses (e.g. obey is correct but obay is wrong). The browser shows a red underline if there are grammatical mistakes. How do I prevent this across all browsers.

  • Problem with modifying a page with ajax, and the browser keeping the unmodified page in cache.

    Hey there, I have a situation where my page loads some information from a database, which is then modified through AJAX. I click a link to another page, then use the 'back' button to return to the original page. The changes to the page through AJAX I made before don't appear, because the browser has the unchanged page stored in the cache. Is there a way of fixing this without setting the page not to cache at all? Thanks :)

    What's the best way to center icons on a line when the images are smaller than the line height? For example (styles inline for easier reading): <div style="line-height: 20px"> <img style="width: 12px; height: 12px;"/> Blah blah blah </div> Here's a jsFiddle example. This example also shows why vertical-align: middle does not work. I want the img to be centered against the text of the div. That is, even if the text wrapped to multiple lines, the image would be centered against a single line. Ideally, the solution would not involve setting margings/paddings on the image and would work even if I didn't know the line-height.   • function file_exists not working in php

    I have been trying to find if a file_exist in the directory. If not i want to use a different image. But as i am using the file_exists function it always returns false. The code i used is while($r=mysql_fetch_row($res)) { if(!file_exists('http://localhost/dropbox/lib/admin/'.$r[5])) { $file='http://localhost/dropbox/lib/admin/images/noimage.gif'; } else $file='http://localhost/dropbox/lib/admin/'.$r[5];} But the function always return false even if the file exits.   • How important is the website logo on a page?

    I have stopped to insert "img" tags for the logo of the page. Because its not an image that is part of the content, its a design element but its still a information I want to have control over. So I just write the title in a "a" element as display: block, overflow: hidden and I push the text out with some padding. I think thats a good solution for SEO because you are keeping control of how important the logo should be on a page. But now my dilemma is starting. How important is the logo of a page? "A list apart" puts the logo in a h1 element. But is the logo really that important? On article pages you have two H1 elements (the logo and the title of the article) Most of the sites just use a img balbal /a, but I don't like this solution. Because I just want to use img for images that are part of the content... Its kinda philosophical question, I hope you can give me some input or some articles to read about that...

  • Form Arrays support across browsers

    I'm not even sure if form arrays is the proper term, but it looks a bit like this: <input name='element[]' type='text' /> <input name='element[]' type='text' /> Which is then retrieved in PHP as an array stored in $_POST['element'] -- in this case with 2 values. I've tested it in the browsers I have available to me, but I've never seen this before and I'm wondering is this supported pretty much in all browsers? Or is this something very old that I've just not run into? Thanks!

    I have a piece of code shown below: $(".tagArea li").mouseover(function(){ $(this).animate({ borderWidth: "2px" }, 1000 ); }); $(".tagArea li").mouseout(function () { $(this).animate({ borderWidth: "1px" }, 1000 ); }); When I try to hover it on a particular list item, it properly animates but doesn't stop doing just once. It keeps doing 2 or 3 times. How to avoid this, I 've tried many a times but no positive result occurs to me. Kindly help.

    I set the width of a textarea to 100%, but now I need to know how many characters can fit in one row. I'm trying to write a javascript function to auto-grow/shrink a textarea. I'm trying to keep from using jquery since I just need this one function. My logic is to rows = textarea.value.split('\n'), iterate through rows and count += rows[i].length/textarea.cols, then count += rows.length, and finally textarea.rows = count. The only problem is that count is too large because textarea.cols is too small.
