• C++ library for dealing with multiple HTTP connections

  Hi, I'm looking for a library to deal with multiple simultaneous HTTP connections (pref. on a single thread) to use in C++ in Windows so it can be Win32 API based. So far, I have tried cURL (multi interface) which seems to be the most appropriate that I have found but my problem is that I may have a queue of 200 requests but I need to only run 4 of them at a time. This becomes problematic when one request may take 2 seconds and another may take 2 mins as you have to wait on all handles and receive the result of all requests in one block. If anyone knows a way round this it would be very useful. I have also tried rolling my own using WinHTTP but I need to throttle the requests so they would ideally need to be on a single thread and use callbacks for data which WinHTTP does not do. The best thing I've found which would solve all my problems is ASIHTTPRequest but unfortunately it's Mac OSX only. Thanks, J

  We have spring 3.0.x based application, we use SimpleMappingExceptionResolver which sends emails on an exception, when the exception happens within the DispatcherServlet. This gives us following flexibility: Subject can include who the logged in user is, so that we can send personalized email to the user Subject also includes the server on which the error occurred The request params, request url, and headers -- helped us find some problems when search engine indexing the site. However, lately we have been finding the exceptions have been occurring in the filters, and since this is not going through the Resolver, we dont get any emails. We dont like the log4j email appender solution, and not writing another filter to send emails seems right. Is there an accepted pattern to resolve this issue

• xcode syntax color coding explained?

  Can anyone give me a quick rundown of the color syntax meanings in xcode? I am running into some problems and understanding the color coding I am sure will help me out. Currently I have some variables that are light blue and I think they need to be black but I am not sure of the difference? masterViewController=[[UINavigationController alloc] initWithDestination: destination]; I believe my masterViewController here should be colored black and not the light blue it is currently colored - I am assuming I defined or initialized something wrong somewhere. First day in xCode so I am pretty damn confused!

• Aging Data Structure in C#

  I want a data structure that will allow querying how many items in last X minutes. An item may just be a simple identifier or a more complex data structure, preferably the timestamp of the item will be in the item, rather than stored outside (as a hash or similar, wouldn't want to have problems with multiple items having same timestamp). So far it seems that with LINQ I could easily filter items with timestamp greater than a given time and aggregate a count. Though I'm hesitant to try to work .NET 3.5 specific stuff into my production environment yet. Are there any other suggestions for a similar data structure? The other part that I'm interested in is aging old data out, If I'm only going to be asking for counts of items less than 6 hours ago I would like anything older than that to be removed from my data structure because this may be a long-running program.

• Text Editor For Flash?

  Hi, I work for a company which produces flash websites. The CMS is built in PHP. The client can update the text on the CMS site. Currently it uses a really old, bad, flash text-editor. It needs to be upgraded to something much much better. I need a text editor that will produce 'flash-html' as well as 'valid-html'. Or even something that marks up the text in the way that would allow me to do this. I tried using TinyMCE and ran into problems trying to convert the HTML. Has anyone tried doing this? Can anyone recommend anything or give any tips on how I can do this?

• Call iconv from Ruby through system()

  I have a problem with iconv tool. I try to call it from rake file in that way: Dir.glob("*.txt") do |file| system("iconv -f UTF-8 -t 'ASCII//TRANSLIT' #{ file } >> ascii_#{ file }") end But one file is converted partly (size of partialy converted: 10059092 bytes, before convertion: 10081854). Comparing this two files prove that not all content was writen to ASCII. When I call this command explicit from shell it works perfectly. Other smaller files are converted without problems. Is there any limitations on iconv or Ruby's system()?

• Why can't I publish MVC project

  I'm having problems publishing my MVC project. When I do publish and upload everything to web server I get this: [InvalidOperationException: The view 'Index' or its master could not be found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx ~/Views/Home/Index.ascx ~/Views/Shared/Index.aspx ~/Views/Shared/Index.ascx] Weird thing is that Index.aspx exists in ~/Views/Home/, but IIS cannot find it there. If I copy entire project to web server and let asp.net compile it on the fly it works like a charm. My routing code: routes.MapRoute( _ "Default", _ "{controller}/{action}/{id}", _ New With {.controller = "Home", .action = "Index", .id = ""} _ ) routes.MapRoute("Root", "", New With {.controller = "Home", .action = "Index", .id =""}) I'm using IIS7 on Windows 2008 Web server. ASP.NET MVC 1.0, Visual Studio 2008. I've tried it local with IIS7 on Windows 7 - same error.

• CodeIgniter based e-shop, shipping and gift address design problem

  While building an ecommerce platform I have run into design problems. I'm working with the built-in CodeIgniter's cart class. It stores all the cart information in session. Let say that cart has already been filled with products and user clicks checkout. When should I store order in database? Just after that click or after several steps of gathering information and stoing it in session? How to deal with additional features like different shipping methods? Should I add it to the basket first and get additional (gift address) to session? I dont want to store it in database because of the relation between gift address and order is needed and since I dont know what's the ID of the order. I'm puzzled :) Additionally I think its crucial to keep cart aware of shipping methods and additional bought services (by selecting gift address there is an extra fee) because the cart content is just like an reciept? In brief, what is the best practice to process checkout?

• MS Sql Full-text search vs. LIKE expression

  Hi. I'm currently looking for a way to search a big database (500MB - 10GB or more on 10 tables) with a lot of different fields(nvarchars and bigints). Many of the fields, that should be searched are not in the same table. An example: A search for '5124 Peter' should return all items, that ... have an ID with 5124 in it, have 'Peter' in the title or description have item type id with 5124 in it created by a user named 'peter' or a user whose id has 5124 in it created by a user with '5124' or 'peter' in his street address. How should i do the search? I read that the full-text search of MS-Sql is a lot more performant than a query with the LIKE keyword and i think the syntax is more clear, but i think it cant search on bigint(id) values and i read it has performance problems with indexing and therefore slows down inserts to the DB. In my project there will be more inserting than reading, so this could be a matter. Thanks in advance, Marks

• How can developers use a similar tracking link to Google's results page?

  I've read heaps of pages of people trying to implement some kind of tracking system similar to the way Google reroutes search link. Eg: Search "Facebook" in Google, open in a new window, and the link changes to something like: "http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBkQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2F&rct=j&q=Facebook&ei=sksZTZexJobJccXnxZYK&usg=AFQjCNHTTNi-O4Qgrg6kvGVfKJuRqbuOKw&cad=rja" I'm guessing Google tracks that click and then redirects to the actual site by reading the url parameter. What I wanted to know is if there was a simple way that you can make this kind of functionality work using an onclick event - just change the link href after being clicked to redirect? There's a few threads, but from what I could find, nobody has actually succeeded without problems or limitations. Thanks in advance.

• Chained address rewrite in Wordpress

  What I need to do is rewriting this address: (1) http://localhost/wordpress/fake/text-value to (2) http://localhost/wordpress/gallery?somevar=text-value Notes: the remapping must be transparent: the user always has to see address (1) gallery is a permalink to a wordpress page, not a real address I basically need to rewrite the address first (to modify it) and then feed it back to mod rewrite again (to let wordpress parse it its own way). Problems if I simply do RewriteRule ^fake$ http://localhost/wordpress/gallery [L] it works but the address in the browser changes, which is no good, if I do RewriteRule ^fake$ /wordpress/gallery [L] I get a 404. I tried different flags instead of [L] but to no avail. How can I get this to work?

  I've solved 84 of the Project Euler problems, mostly in Haskell. I am now going back and trying to solve in J some of those I already solved in Haskell, as an exercise in learning J. Currently, I am trying to solve Problem 56. Let me stress that I already know what the right answer is, since I've already solved it in Haskell. It's a very easy, trivial problem. I will not give the answer here. Here is my solution in J: digits =: ("."0)":"0 eachDigit =: adverb : 'u@:digits"0' NB. I use this so often I made it an adverb. cartesian =: adverb : '((#~ #) u ($~ ([:*~#)))' >./ +/ eachDigit x: ^ cartesian : i. 99 This produces a number less than the desired result. In other words, it's wrong somehow. Any J-ers out there know why? I'm baffled, since it's pretty straightforward and totally brute force.

• Java 1.5.0_16 corrupted colours when saving jpg image

  Hi, i have a loaded image from disk (stored as a BufferedImage), which i display correctly on a JPanel but when i try to re-save this image using the command below, the image is saved in a reddish hue. ImageIO.write(image, "jpg", fileName); Note! image is a BufferedImage and fileName is a File object pointing to the filename that will be saved which end in ".jpg". I have read that there were problems with ImageIO methods in earlier JDKs but i'm not on one of those versions as far as i could find. What i am looking for is a way to fix this issue without updating the JDK, however having said that i would still like to know in what JDK this issue was fixed in (if it indeed is still a bug with the JDK i'm using). I'm having problems with my project once again :( The front end is C# I need to support multiline querying like MS SQL server and when these queries are executed, naturally there are going to be multiple result sets. Getting the datatables respective to the results is not a problem, but how do i make it appear like its done in MS SQL server. One result set below the other and with a scroll bar? Should i bind it to a datagrid? If so how can i bind multiple tables to a datagrid ? and will it generate the scrollbars and the columns automatically? If i am not clear, please let me know and i'll try to be more clearer. ps: If anyone knows how this can be done with the XtraGridControl in devexpress that would be awesome ! :D

  Hi, I've created a custom user model in my application. This user model is working fine, but there are a couple of problems I have with it. 1) The change password link in the my register.html page doesn't work? 2) The default password box on the add/edit page for a user is a little unfriendly. Ideally, what I'd like is the two password fields from the change password form on the add/edit user form in the admin, which will automatically turn convert the entered password into a valid encrypted password in Django. This would make the admin system MUCH friendlier and much more suited to my needs, as a fair number of user accounts will be created and maintained manually in this app, and the person responsible for doing so will likely be scared off at the sight of that admin field, or just type a clear text password and wonder why it doesn't work. Is this possible / How do I do this?

• Getting COM object to run in Vista

  We expose an interface to our simulation software using a COM/ActiveX object. This worked just fine in XP, but in Vista, we get "Error 429: ActiveX can't create object" when a VB client executes CreateObject(). The COM object has been registered by hand so that the Vista Registry is identical to XP's Registry. I run the VB interface from a DOS window that I started using "Run As Administrator". The client is correctly accessing and reading the Registry as I walk through using the debugger in VB, so it's apparently not a security setting, as near as I can tell. I have also loaded the files into VS2005 (the object was originally created in VS6) and rebuilt them to get a later ATL version, but that hasn't helped - we still get the 429 error. Is this a symptom of UAC problems, or should I be looking for something deeper?

As in, the side borders should go , but the top border should stay FormBorderStyle doesn't have anything for this Also how do you people solve such problems yourself , without asking ? look at others code ? read a a book ? any particular website ?   What is a fast hash function available for the iPhone to hash web urls (images)? I'd like to store the cached web image as a file with a hash as the filename, because I suppose the raw web url could contain strange characters that could cause problems on the file system. The hash function doesn't need to be cryptographic, but it definitely needs to be fast. Example: Input: http://www.calumetphoto.com/files/iccprofiles/icc-test-image.jpg Output: 3573ed9c4d3a5b093355b2d8a1468509 This was done by using MD5(), but since I don't know much about that topic I don't know if it is overkill (- slow).

• how can I develop Apple Java Extensions on Windows?

  When I do multi-platform testing on Windows it gets annoying that Eclipse shows errors in the project because of the com.apple.eawt code that I have in a special Mac customization task. Worse yet, if I export a runnable jar on Windows, it won't run on mac because of the unresolved compilation problems. What's the best way to let Windows Java and com.apple.eawt live in peace? I can't see how I would be able to spin off the code to a jar, since it requires access to lots of the program's state. Thanks for your help!   I have installed Adobe Livecycle in order to convert MSWORD files to PDF from a web-app. Specifically, I use the DocConverter tool. Previously I have used OpenOffice UNO SDK, but I have found some problems with particular documents. Now, the conversion is ok, but the conversion time is huge. These are the times to convert documents of different sizes via Openoffice and via Livecycle. Could you suggest anything? • Visual Studio keeps changing resx files

  Hello everyone ! I'm working on a VB.Net project and using SVN. I noticed that every time I use my main form, Visual studio slightly modifies my .resx file, which means that I keep having to re-commit it, which is quite an annoying thing. Has anybody experienced such problems? • Calling a method with an instance of derived class of derived generic type

  Okay, so I have classes class B<T> : A<T> class L : K and a method void Method(A<K> a) {...} What I would like to do is this b = new B<L>(); Method(b); //error But it is not possible to b to the correct type. Indeed it is not possible to make this cast A<K> t = new A<L>(); //error I would really like to not have to change the internals of Method. I have no problems making changes to B and/or L. Do I have any options for making some sort of workaround? I guess it should be possible for Method to execute all of its method calls etc. on b, since B derives from A and L derives from K?
