• Is google gson running on android?

  I'm playing arround with google gson for communication with my web back end at the moment. This and this older posts indicate that there are some problems with gson on android. I did some easy tests on the device already but maybe I just missed the bug. Edit I'm now parsing a lot more data. Generic lists etc. still not encountered the bug. Has anybody used gson on Android already? How does it work? Has somebody encountered bugs or something that will stop me from using it once it gets more complicated?

• Setting up Windows Authentication In Reporting Services Using Kerberos

  Hi, I have yet another problem with Reporting services. Finally I was able to set the ball rolling, achieving success in configuring reporting services with a domain user account. Now I have a problem accessing the server from another machine (in the same domain) using Integrated Windows Authentication in IIS 6.0. I have never had problems with this on networks using NT Authentication, but this is the first time our network is set up to use Kerberos. Here are my IIS settings - Reports (Manager) & ReportServer Virtual directories under Default Website, Both these are configured to run with Integrated Windows Authentication..Anonymous access turned OFF. Reporting Services Windows Service runs under Network service account and Web Service under a domain user account. Note - If I turn on Basic Authentication, it works fine, exceeding all my expectations, but this is not something I want. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Vineet

• Postback problem downloading zip file

  I've got a problem on a webforms application where a user selects some criteria from dropdowns on the page and hits a button on the page which calls this method: protected void btnSearch_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) They then click on button to download a zip file based on the criteria which calls this method: protected void btnDownload_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) In IE, they are prompted with the bar at the top of the browser that tells them "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer". When they click on that bar to download the file, it fires the btnSearch_Click event again. Response.ContentType and Response.AddHeader has been set up correctly. The problem is, that btnSearch appends criteria so basically it is being appended twice and causing problems. Is there something I can do to prevent this? This is a vs2008 web app using c# 3.5 for what it's worth. Thanks!

• My map callouts don't display the image when clicked

  I am developing an iPhone application for a university project and I'm new to iPhone development. I have looked through Apple's MapCallouts code but it doesn't seem feasible to implement it. So far my code displays a map, drops annotations, displays the title and it displays the right call out button. But this is where I encounter problems. When I press on the callout button, it displays a blank view controller but it should display a different image for every callout that's tapped and this isn't happening so far. • undefined reference

  Hi, I'm unfamiliar to working in c++ under linux so I have some issues, one of them is that after I write a class and try to instantiate an object of that class I get to following error : "undefined reference to Constructor_of_that_class" . This happens for every class that I write , and it happens no matter where I try to do the instantiating, even if the code compiles without any problems . What is going wrong here and what I have to do to get over this error ? Because the project that I'm working wasn't created by me I suspect that it has to do something with some settings but I don't know which.

• iPhone - dealloc subview UIViewController when removeFromSuperview

  I have several buttons on my main UIViewController (main menu) that creates and adds a subview UIViewController on top of the main menu. When I remove the subview the memory from that controller is not released. How can I release that subviews memory instantly? Does anyone have an example? This would solve all my problems! • What do you do when you feel you need a variatic list comprehension?

  I would like to make a method where I could give it a list of lengths and it would return all combinations of cartesian coordinates up to those lengths. Easier to explain with an example: cart [2,5] Prelude> [ [0,0],[0,1],[0,2],[0,3],[0,4],[1,0],[1,1],[1,2],[1,3],[1,4] ] cart [2,2,2] Prelude> [ [0,0,0],[0,0,1],[0,1,0],[0,1,1],[1,0,0],[1,0,1],[1,1,0],[1,1,1] ] A simple list comprehension won't work because I don't know how long the lists are going to be. While I love Haskell's simplicity for many problems, this is one that I could write procedurally (in C or something) in 5 minutes whereas Haskell gives me an aneurysm! A solution to this specific problem would help me out a lot; I'd also love to hear about your thought processes when tackling stuff like this.

  Sorry for the newbie question, but I have the following query that groups parking spaces by their garage, but I can't figure out how to iterate the data in the view. I guess I should strongly type the view but am a newbie and having lots of problems figuring this out. Any help would be appreciated.   Refering to this question I asked a while ago: UI functionality modeling languages It looks like there is no good-enough solution. I decided to develop one. (and prepare a set of elements for DIA or something) I'm sure it will require a good insight in peoples' experiences and problems in designing functionally complicated GUIs. I've got some ideas already, but I'd like to hear from You what You'd expect from a GUI functionality modelling language. Clarification: It's functionality modelling, so it's not about where I put a button. It's about objects that have some events binded, and the interface behaviour logic. If You think (just as I do) that UML is far from useful for such purposes - feel free to put Your expectations here. I'll try to meet them. • Aspect Oriented Programming Library/Framework for Actionscript 3?

  Hello, I have a set of Books objects, classs Book is defined as following : Class Book{ String title; ArrayList<tags> taglist; } Where title is the title of the book, example : Javascript for dummies. and taglist is a list of tags for our example : Javascript, jquery, "web dev", .. As I said a have a set of books talking about different things : IT, BIOLOGY, HISTORY, ... Each book has a title and a set of tags describing it.. I have to classify automaticaly those books into separated sets by topic, example : IT BOOKS : Java for dummies Javascript for dummies Learn flash in 30 days C++ programming HISTORY BOOKS : World wars America in 1960 Martin luther king's life BIOLOGY BOOKS : .... Do you guys know a classification algorithm/method to apply for that kind of problems ? • How do I make these layers not overlap?

I tried using z-index, but it didn't work. 2 ) I'm trying to make the div #search align directly beneath the "More", but upon setting the width of #search, it aligns to the left side. 3 ) When I hover over the navigation on the left, the popup is being overlapped by the text in the middle. I want the popup to be on top of the text.

• Asp.Net MVC best way to update cached table

  There are certain tables that get called often but updated rarely. One of these tables is Departments. So to save DB trips, I think it is ok to cache this table taking into consideration that the table has very small size. However, once you cached it an issue of keeping the table data fresh occurs. So what is the best way to determine that the table is dirty and therefore requires a reload and how that code should be invoked. I look for solution that will be scalable. So updating the cache right after inserting will not work. So if one machine inserted the record all other on network should get notified to reload the cache. I was thinking for calling corresponding web service from T-SQL but don't really like the idea of consuming recourses on sql server. So what are the best practices to resolve this type of problems. JQuery functions are fired when the related elements are loaded, instead of complete pageload. This is a common practice to call a javascript function when page is loaded like window.onload = function(){ alert("Mindfire") } or Inside of which is the code that we want to run right when the page is loaded. Problematically, however, the Javascript code isn't run until all images are finished downloading (this includes banner ads). The reason for using window.onload in the first place is due to the fact that the HTML 'document' isn't finished loading yet, when you first try to run your code. To circumvent both problems, jQuery has a simple statement that checks the document and waits until it's ready to be manipulated, known as the ready event $(document).ready(function() { // Your code here });

• Cannot call scalar-valued CLR UDF from select ... from table statement

  I have created a scalar-valued CLR UDF (user defined function). It takes a timezone id and a datetime and returns the datetime converted to that timezone. I can call it from a simple select without problems: "select dbo.udfConvert('Romance Standard Time', @datetime)" (@datetime is of course a valid datetime variable) But if I call it passing in a datetime from a table it fails: "select dbo.udfConvert('Romance Standard Time', StartTime) from sometable" (column StartTime is of course a column of type datetime) The error message is: "Cannot find either column "dbo" or the user-defined function or aggregate "dbo.udfConvert", or the name is ambiguous." This message is really for beginners that has misspelled something, but as it works in one case and not in the other, I don't think I have done any misspellings. Any ideas?

  I am attempting to write a Genetic Algorithm based on techniques I had picked up from the book "AI Techniques for Game Programmers" that uses a binary encoding and fitness proportionate selection (also known as roulette wheel selection) on the genes of the population that are randomly generated within the program in a two-dimensional array. I recently came across a piece of pseudocode and have tried to implement it, but have come across some problems with the specifics of what I need to be doing. I've checked a number of books and some open-source code and am still struggling to progress. I understand that I have to get the sum of the total fitness of the population, pick a random number between the sum and zero, then if the number is greater than the parents to overwrite it, but I am struggling with the implementation of these ideas. Any help in the implementation of these ideas would be very much appreciated as my Java is rusty.

• Calculating Length Based on Sensor Data

  I've got an IR sensor which writes its current information to a token which I then interpret in a C# application. That's all good -- no problems there, heres my code: SetLabelText(tokens [1],label_sensorValue); sensorreading = Int32.Parse(tokens[0]); sensordistance = (mathfunctionhere); Great. So the further away the IR sensor is from an object, the lower the sensor reading (as less light is reflected back and received by the sensor). My problem is in interpreting that length. I can go ahead and get lets say "110" as a value when an object is 5 inches away, and then "70" as a value when an object is 6 inches away. Now I want to be able to calculate the distance of an object using these constants for any length. Any ideas?

• CSS background image inconsistency in IE6 and IE7

  I have a span that is generated through javascript, with its css class as follows: .class1{ width:25px; height:25px; background-image: url(pic.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position: center; cursor:pointer; margin-left:10px; } The problem is on, the html page, i can see the pointer -cursor, but not the background image,over the span, in IE7. In IE6, both get shown , no problems.

  I know this is not a good idea and the best would be to let the applications talk Web Services. But I have a situation where the legacy application is accessing a database with an ORM and I need to access the same database from the new .net application using Fluent nHibernate. So the question is what problems this will make and how to solve them? I guess the main issue is the caching. I need to disable the caching on one of the applications (which would be the new app). So how can I disable caching in nHibernate? Is there anything else that should be careful about?

• C# ASP.Net The type or namespace name 'iAnywhere' could not be found

  Morning all, I know that this sounds like a simple referencing problem from the title this is becoming a nightmare! I have a code class that uses the "iAnywhere.Data.AsaClient.dll". This Dll is referenced in the project and in the code class I have added this dll in the Using section. Everything seems fine at build with no errors at all but when I go to run the application it comes up with the following Compilation Error: Compiler Error Message: CS0246: The type or namespace name 'iAnywhere' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) The line that the Error points to this line in the class: using iAnywhere.Data.AsaClient; I have set the dll to copy local and it makes no difference, the Dll is installed on my PC so is in the GAC, I use this Dll with many other C# projects and have no problems. I have scoured Google looking for an answer and haven't found anything that points me to an answer to my problem. Any help would be brilliant!

• Are there any widely-agreed upon guidelines for rating your language knowledge on a scale?

  The question was imagined after a co-worker was complaining for an hour about some guy who could not answer basic Java questions on an interview after self-identifying himself as "8 out of 10" on Java. While that was an obvious fib, I personally always had major trouble defining my specific language skills on a sliding scale unless I'm given specific guidelines (remember 40 standard libraries by heart? Able to solve 10 random Project Euler problems in <30 mins each? Can write implementation of A, B and C data-structures from scratch in 30 mins? Know 30% of standard? Can answer 50% of questions on StackOverflow pertaining to the language?) So, I was wondering - is there some sort of commonly accepted methodology for translating such tangible benchmarks into "rate yourself on a language between 1-10"? "Kernighan gets an A, God gets a B, everyone else gets C and less" type jokes are not helpful :)
