  • forward declare static function c++

    - by Matthew Scouten
    I want to forward declare a static member function of a class in another file. What I WANT to do looks like this: BigMassiveHeader.h: class foo { static void init_foos(); } Main.cpp: class foo; void init_foos(); int main(char** argv, int argc) { foo::init_foos() } This fails out with "error C2027: use of undefined type 'tt_py_ns::foo'" Is there a way to accomplish what I want to do with out making init_foos a free function, or including BigMassiveHeader.h? (BigMassiveHeader.h is noticeably effecting compile time, and is included everywhere.)

  • How do languages handle side effects of compound operators?

    - by Kos
    Hello, Assume such situation: int a = (--t)*(t-2); int b = (t/=a)+t; In C and C++ this is undefined behaviour, as described here: Undefined Behavior and Sequence Points However, how does this situation look in: JavaScript, Java, PHP... C# well, any other language which has compound operators? I'm bugfixing a Javascript - C++ port right now in which this got unnoticed in many places. I'd like to know how other languages generally handle this... Leaving the order undefined is somehow specific to C and C++, isn't it?

  • How to Access a Private Variable?

    - by SoulBeaver
    This question isn't meant to sound as blatantly insulting as it probably is right now. This is a homework assignment, and the spec sheet is scarce and poorly designed to say the least. We have a function: double refuel( int liter, GasStation *gs ) { // TODO: Access private variable MaxFuel of gs and decrement. } Sound simple enough? It should be, but the class GasStation comes with no function that accesses the private variable MaxFuel. So how can I access it anyway using the function refuel? I'm not considering creating a function setFuel( int liter ) because the teacher always complains rather energetically if I change his specification. So... I guess I have to do some sort of hack around it, but I'm not sure how to go about this without explicitely changing the only function in GasStation and giving it a parameter so that I can call it here. Any hints perhaps?

Currently i already succed to just transform it to exact height (80px) with various width which nott look so good when i try to display it on a list. e.g jcaroussel. My db.put code is like bellow: if users.get_current_user(): personal.personal_id = int(self.request.get('personal_id')) personal.name = self.request.get('name') personal.latitude = self.request.get('latitude') personal.info = self.request.get('info') photo = images.resize(self.request.get('img'), 0, 80) personal.photo = db.Blob(photo) personal.lc_id = int(self.request.get('lc_id')) personal.put() self.redirect('/admin/personal') else: self.response.out.write('I\'m sorry, you don\'t have permission to add this LP Personal Data.')   • Dynamically Casting In ActionScript

    - by Joshua
    Is there a way to cast dynamically in Actionscript? What I want to accomplish is illustrated by the following code: var Val:*; var S:String=SomeTextEdit.text; switch (DesiredTypeTextEdit.text) { case 'int':Val=int(S);break; case 'uint':Val=uint(S);break; case 'String':Val=String(S);break; case 'Number':Val=Number(S);break; ... } SomeDisplayObject[SomePropertyNameTextEdit.text]=Val; I am looking for something LIKE the following PSEUDOCODE: SomeDisplayObject[SomePropertyName]=eval(DesiredType)(SomeTextEdit.text); Yes, I already realize that "eval" is not on the table, nor is that how one would use it. What's the RIGHT way?

  • Two '==' equality operators in same 'if' condition are not working as intended.

    - by Manav MN
    I am trying to establish equality of three equal variables, but the following code is not printing the obvious true answer which it should print. Can someone explain, how the compiler is parsing the given if condition internally? #include<stdio.h> int main() { int i = 123, j = 123, k = 123; if ( i == j == k) printf("Equal\n"); else printf("NOT Equal\n"); return 0; } Output: manav@workstation:~$ gcc -Wall -pedantic calc.c calc.c: In function ‘main’: calc.c:5: warning: suggest parentheses around comparison in operand of ‘==’ manav@workstation:~$ ./a.out NOT Equal manav@workstation:~$ EDIT: Going by the answers given below, is the following statement okay to check above equality? if ( (i==j) == (j==k))

  • C++ Templates: implicit conversion, no matching function for call to ctor

    - by noname
    template<class T> class test { public: test() { } test(T& e) { } }; int main() { test<double> d(4.3); return 0; } Compiled using g++ 4.4.1 with the following errors: g++ test.cpp -Wall -o test.exe test.cpp: In function 'int main()': test.cpp:18: error: no matching function for call to 'test<double>::test(double) ' test.cpp:9: note: candidates are: test<T>::test(T&) [with T = double] test.cpp:5: note: test<T>::test() [with T = double] test.cpp:3: note: test<double>::test(const test<double>&) make: *** [test.exe] Error 1 However, this works: double a=1.1; test<double> d(a); Why is this happing? Is it possible that g++ cannot implicitly convert literal expression 1.1 to double? Thanks.

  • Access block level storage via kernel

    - by N 1.1
    How to access block level storage via the kernel (w/o using scsi libraries)? My intent is to implement a block level storage protocol over network for learning purpose, almost the same way SCSI works. Requests will be generated by initiator and sent to target (both userspace program) which makes call to kernel module and returns the data using TCP protocol to initiator. So far, I have managed to build a simple "Hello" module and run it (I am new at kernel programming), but unable to proceed with block access. After searching a lot, I found struct buffer_head * bread(int dev,int block) in linux/fs.h, but the compiler throws error. error: implicit declaration of function ‘bread’ Please help, also feel free to advice on starting with kernel programming. Thank you!

  • How do I check if a SQL Server 2005 TEXT column is not null or empty using LINQ To Entities?

    - by emzero
    Hi there guys I'm new to LINQ and I'm trying to check whether a TEXT column is null or empty (as String.IsNullOrEmpty). from c in ... ... select new { c.Id, HasBio = !String.IsNullOrEmpty(c.bio) } Trying to use the above query produces an SqlException: Argument data type text is invalid for argument 1 of len function. The SQL generated is similar to the following: CASE WHEN ( NOT (([Extent2].[bio] IS NULL) OR (( CAST(LEN([Extent2].[bio]) AS int)) = 0))) THEN cast(1 as bit) WHEN (([Extent2].[bio] IS NULL) OR (( CAST(LEN([Extent2].[bio]) AS int)) = 0)) THEN cast(0 as bit) END AS [C1] LEN is not applicable to TEXT columns. I know DATALENGTH should be used for them... How can I force LINQ to produce such thing? Or any other workaround to test if a text column is null or empty??? Thanks!

  • How to create a random string of characters in C#?

    - by Keltex
    I'm trying to create random strings of characters. I'm wondering if there might be a more efficient way. Here's my algorithm: string RANDOM = "0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz#@$^*()"; StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); int length = rand.Next(10) + 1; for (int idx = 0; idx < length; ++idx) { sb.Append(RANDOM[rand.Next(RANDOM.Length)]); } string RandomString = sb.ToString(); I'm wondering if the StringBuilder is the best choice. Also if selecting a random character from my RANDOM string is the best way.

  • Loop doesn't update listboxes until it is done iterating

    - by Justen
    I have a loop that takes file name from a listbox, performs a system() call, then moves that filename to another listbox. Problem is, it doesn't move the filenames over one at a time, but waits until the entire loop is finished and moves them all at once. What would I do to get it to perform how I want it to? the loop: for each( String^% file in filename ) { int x = convert( file ); lbComplete->Items->Add( lbFiles->Items[0] ); // place the completed file lbFiles->Items->Remove( lbFiles->Items[0] ); // in the other listbox } The function convert() that contains the system call: int convert( String^ file ) { std::stringstream ss; std::string dir, fileAddress, fileName, outputDir; ... return system( ss.str().c_str() ); }

  • Constructor Injection and when to use a Service Locator

    - by Simon
    I'm struggling to understand parts of StructureMap's usage. In particular, in the documentation a statement is made regarding a common anti-pattern, the use of StructureMap as a Service Locator only instead of constructor injection (code samples straight from Structuremap documentation): public ShippingScreenPresenter() { _service = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IShippingService>(); _repository = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IRepository>(); } instead of: public ShippingScreenPresenter(IShippingService service, IRepository repository) { _service = service; _repository = repository; } This is fine for a very short object graph, but when dealing with objects many levels deep, does this imply that you should pass down all the dependencies required by the deeper objects right from the top? Surely this breaks encapsulation and exposes too much information about the implementation of deeper objects. Let's say I'm using the Active Record pattern, so my record needs access to a data repository to be able to save and load itself. If this record is loaded inside an object, does that object call ObjectFactory.CreateInstance() and pass it into the active record's constructor? What if that object is inside another object. Does it take the IRepository in as its own parameter from further up? That would expose to the parent object the fact that we're access the data repository at this point, something the outer object probably shouldn't know. public class OuterClass { public OuterClass(IRepository repository) { // Why should I know that ThingThatNeedsRecord needs a repository? // that smells like exposed implementation to me, especially since // ThingThatNeedsRecord doesn't use the repo itself, but passes it // to the record. // Also where do I create repository? Have to instantiate it somewhere // up the chain of objects ThingThatNeedsRecord thing = new ThingThatNeedsRecord(repository); thing.GetAnswer("question"); } } public class ThingThatNeedsRecord { public ThingThatNeedsRecord(IRepository repository) { this.repository = repository; } public string GetAnswer(string someParam) { // create activeRecord(s) and process, returning some result // part of which contains: ActiveRecord record = new ActiveRecord(repository, key); } private IRepository repository; } public class ActiveRecord { public ActiveRecord(IRepository repository) { this.repository = repository; } public ActiveRecord(IRepository repository, int primaryKey); { this.repositry = repository; Load(primaryKey); } public void Save(); private void Load(int primaryKey) { this.primaryKey = primaryKey; // access the database via the repository and set someData } private IRepository repository; private int primaryKey; private string someData; } Any thoughts would be appreciated. • Get the caret position when losing focus in WPF

    - by DrLazer
    I have two textbox's. I have an event setup for the "onLostFocus" of the textbox's. If i finish typing a word into both boxes one after the other all is well. At the point where i click back on the first textbox i want to click halfway through the word (perfectly resonable thing for a user to do). When the onLostFocus event fires here is my code : void tbox_LostFocus(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { IInputElement focusedelement = FocusManager.GetFocusedElement(this); if (focusedelement is TextBox) { TextBox focusedTextBox = focusedelement as TextBox; int focusIndex = m_commandsStacker.Children.IndexOf(focusedTextBox); int caretIndex = focusedTextBox.CaretIndex; The caret index is 0. At that point I refresh the whole form and set parameters and all other kinds of whizzery, storing the texbox index and caret position to put everything back the same. Why does it return 0 and not the position where the caret should be halfway between the word?

  • How to write a Custom DesignerSerializer for an class used by a Activity (WF)

    - by Stefan Steinegger
    I have a type which is used in a WF activity. It should be serialized. It doesn't work out of the box, most probably because of the private setters in that type. I'm not sure if this is the correct way, but I tried to write my own serializer and declared it on my class. [DesignerSerializer( typeof(FooDesignerSerializer), // my custom serializer typeof(WorkflowMarkupSerializer))] public class Foo { public Foo(int value, string name { // ... } public int Value { get; private set; } public string Name { get; private set; } } Is this the easiest way to get it serialized? How do I write this serializer? That's what I got so far: public class FooDesignerSerializer : WorkflowMarkupSerializer { protected override string SerializeToString( WorkflowMarkupSerializationManager serializationManager, object value) { // how to create a valid / XOML-like string? } }

  • What is the best way to marshal a char array function argument?

    - by Seh Hui 'Felix' Leong
    Let say that given the following signature in LegacyLib.dll: int Login(SysInst *inst, char username[8], char password[6]); The simple way to marshal this function in C# would be: [DllImport("LegacyLib.dll", CharSet=CharSet.Ansi)] public static extern int Login(ref SysInst inst, string username, string password); The problem of doing it in a such a naive way is that the managed string we passed into the username or password parameter could be longer than the array bounds and this could potentially cause a buffer overrun in LegacyLib.dll. Is there a better way which overcomes this problem? i.e. is there any quick [MarshalAs(…)] magic that I could use to counter that?

  • Fast way to set text format for a range of Text using TLF

    - by wezzy
    Hi, i have to set the text format for some tokens in a plain text. I'm trying to use the Text Layout Framework to improve the speed of the operation but i've founded that TLF is far slower (10X in my tests) than the old setTextFormat(). For each token i call this function: public function setTextFormat(format:TextLayoutFormat, begin:int, end:int):void{ var selection:SelectionState = new SelectionState(this._textFlow, begin, end, this._normalFormat); IEditManager(_textFlow.interactionManager).applyLeafFormat(format, selection); } is there any faster and clever way to do this operation ? Thanks

    I have a MySQL table that represents data for a tree GUI component, here's the structure of my table: treeTable ( id INT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, parentId INT, name VARCHAR(255) ); parentId is a self-referencing foreign key. Now I want to write a stored procedure which gets a node id and returns a result set that contains that node and all of its parents. For example, suppose that my table has filled with this data: 1, null, 'root' 2, 1 , 'level_1' 3, 2 , 'level_2' Now I want to get all parent nodes of node 3 (nodes 1 and 2) and return a result set that contains all tree records. Can anybody help me please?

  • How to bind a List to a WPF treeview using Xaml?

But what's this even mean: ItemsSource="{x:Static local:TreeTest.BoatList}" x:? static? local? How do you specify a collection in your code in the xaml?

  • Store data for songs MySQL DB

    - by Johan
    I'm storing a huge set of songs in a MySQL database. This is what I store in the 'songs' table: CREATE TABLE `songs` ( `song_id` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `song_artist` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `song_track` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `song_mix` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `song_title` text NOT NULL, `song_hash` varchar(40) NOT NULL, `song_addtime` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, `song_source` text NOT NULL, `song_file` varchar(255) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`song_id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=1857 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 Now I'd like to keep track of how many plays each song has, and other song-specific data that relates to the song. I don't want to keep adding fields to the 'songs' table for this. How can I store song related data a more efficient way? What's the best practice here?
