• Hierarchical animations in DirectX and handling seperate animations on the same mesh?

  I have a hierarchical animated model in DirectX which loads and animates based on the following DirectX sample: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee418677%28VS.85%29.aspx As good as the sample is it does not really go into some of the details of animation that I'd like. For example, if I have a mesh which has a running animation and a throwing animation as seperate animation sets how can I get the throwing animation to occur for bones above the hip and the walking animation to occur for bones underneath the hip? Also if I wanted to for example have the person lean left or right would I simply have to find the bone for the hip and multiplay a rotation matrix by its matrix? In this case I think the matrix is m_amxBoneOffsets?

• Force exceptions language in English

  My Visual Studio 2005 is a French one, installed on a French OS. All the exceptions I receive during debug or runtime I obtain also in French. Can I however do something that the exceptions messages be in English? For goggling, discussing etc. I tried the following: Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo("en-US"); throw new NullReferenceException(); obtained Object reference not set to an instance of an object. This is, surely, cool... but, as I work on a French project, I will not hardcode forcing Thread.CurrentUICulture to English. I want the English change to be only on my local machine, and don't change the project properties. Is it possible to set the exceptions language without modifying the code of the application? • JQuery plugin to animate overlay

  I'm looking for a JQuery plugin to animate the appearance and disappearance of an overlay div. Something like what Rackspace has here: http://www.rackspacecloud.com/ After staring at the page for 30 seconds or so, a div comes sliding down from the top asking you whether you want to chat with a rep. If you ignore the div for a period of time it slides back up. I know I could hand code all this using timers and animate() and such, but hoping someone has done it for us already. Any ideas?

• Source control on internet i.e. no private networks.

  Me and my friend are in the process of starting a small project and want to implement a source control. Now both are located in different cities and can communicate using internet for file sharing etc. I need an online hosting solution or any way where i can maintain the source code repository for both of us to check in/out. As of now we want to maintain it as private project. Does sourceforge allow hosting projects which would not be opensource? One option i was thinking, to obtain a static IP form ISP and host the repository.But that mean my system needs to be online when my friend wants to checkin/out or do some diff with old version code. Secondly, would SVN or git be a better choice in such a situation. I have no experience in git/mercurial as of now.

  We'd like to have trivial Java property accessors using a single line syntax, so they take up much much less space, and are more readable (in terms of 'seeing' the set of accessors quickly). But we do want to enforce multi-line method syntax for everything else in our checkstyle configuration. But I'm not sure how to make this exception for accessors in Checkstyle config and suspect it may not be possible. So we'd like our accessors to look something like this: public String getFoo() { return foo; } public void setFoo(String foo) { this.foo = foo; } [In fact we'd rather not have trivial accessors at all and instead just annotate the private member variables with @Property or something and have the accessors generated for us, since writing endless get and set code delivers no real benefit, but that's a general Java frustration and an aside as far as this question goes.]

  Whilst building a Windows Phone 7 app. using the MVVM pattern we've struggled to get to grips with a pattern or technique to centralise navigation logic that will fit with MVVM. To give an example, everytime the app. calls our web service we check that the logon token we've assigned the app. earlier hasn't expired. We always return some status to the phone from the web service and one of those might be Enum.AuthenticationExpired. If we receive that I'd imagine we'd alert the user and navigate back to the login screen. (this is one of many examples of status we might receive) Now, wanting to keep things DRY, that sort of logic feels like it should be in one place. Therein lies my question. How should I go about modelling navigation that relies on (essentially) switch or if statements to tell us where to navigate to next without repeating that in every view. Are there recognised patterns or techniques that someone could recommend? Thanks

  I have two custom lists in sharepoint with a one to many relationship on a column in both lists. So list A has text column 1 and list B has a lookup column 1' on list A's column 1. I want to display the rows in list A, where column 1 has a match on column 1' and a 2nd column in list B with a specific text string.   I am new to OpenGL ES, and I'm about to begin a 3D game for the iphone in which we are showing some car pursuit or racing. Is it possible just with the OpenGL ES or UIKit only, or do I have to use other tools for it? I am comfortable with UIKit but newer to OpenGL/OpenGL ES; which would be better to start this game? Or should I use a game engine? If so, then which game engine would give us the 3D feeling, quality of images and motion, and rendering of the views with the sound effects?

The remaining 10% of the code accounts for the other 90% of the development time. But all jokes aside, it is often as if 20% of your code is to do what you want, and the other 80% is to handle exceptions... so does the 80/20 rule really apply to developers? • [Java] - Problem having my main thread sleeping

  I'm in a Java class and our assignment is to let us explore threads in Java. So far so good except for this one this one problem. And I believe that could be because of my lack of understanding how Java threads work at the moment. I have the main thread of execution which spawns new threads. In the main thread of execution in main() I am calling Thread.sleep(). When I do I get an Unhandled exception type InterruptedException. I am unsure of why I am getting this? I thought this was because I needed a reference to the main thread so I went ahead and made a reference to it via Thread.currentThread(). Is this not the way to have the thread sleep? What I need to do is have the main thread wait/sleep/delay till it does it required work again. Any help would be much appreciated.

Afaik there is BeanFactoryPostProcessor interface that let us use BeanDefinitionRegistry.registerBeanDefinition() method before beans within context are initialized. That method accepts only a class / definition. But usually one needs to register a bean that is already set with properties. Otherwise the bean definition registration itself is kinda useless. I don't want to set it up additionally after I get it from context then. When using singleton it's ok, but for prototypes I'd have to set the bean up for each getBean() .

  So , I've been reading this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa290051%28VS.71%29.aspx And I would like to define my custom handler.However, I'm not sure I understand the mechanics well.What happens after a call is made to the user-defined function ( e.g. the argument of _set_security_error_handler() ) ? Does the program still terminate afterward ? If that is the case, is it possible to terminate only the current thread(assuming that it is not the main thread of the application).AFAIK, each thread has its own stack , so if the stack of a thread gets corrupted, the rest of the application shouldn't be affected. Finally, if it is indeed possible to only terminate the current thread of execution, what potential problems could such an action cause? I'm trying to do all this inside an unmanaged C++ dll that I would like to use in my C# code.

• Verify windows log-in via smart card

  Hi I need to verify in my WPF application if the user log in to his computer via password or via smart-card. Both login options are available in my company clients but my application need to open only in the smart-card login. All the clients are windows 7 OS. I look at some sites: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff404285(v=ws.10).aspx http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/240655/Using-a-Smart-Card-Certificate-with-NET-Security-i and I'm thinking I need to get the enhanced key usage (EKU) attribute field. If the EKU is empty = then the user was loged via password and not via smartcard. I only need this simple check, I do not care for creating/validations on certificates atc.

My question is what purpose of using trigraphs? Is there any practical advantage of using trigraphs? UPD: In answers was mentioned that some European keyboards don't have all the punctuation characters, so non-US programmers have to use trigraphs in everyday life? UPD2: Visual Studio 2010 has trigraph support turned off by default.
