• Script to download file and rename according to date on Windows Vista machine?

  Hi, I need to daily run a script that will download a file from a fixed location and save it on my computer with an appropriate filename-YYYYMMDD-HHSS.ext timestamp. I need a historical record of what that file was at that particular time. I can manually check and see what the changes were, so compairson not needed. (I was looking for an online service that would do this for me, but I think a locally running script on my machine would be good enough). Although i do have php on my machine, i would prefer if its a pure windows builtin solution, just in case i have to (likely) adapt it to someone else's system (non-techies). If someone has something like this and can contribute the code - help would be most appreciated!! D

• git mv and only change case of directory

  While I found similar question I didn't find an answer to my problem When I try to rename the directory from FOO to foo via git mv FOO foo I get fatal: renaming 'FOO' failed: Invalid argument OK. So I try git mv FOO foo2 && git mv foo2 foo But when I try to commit via git commit . I get # On branch master # Untracked files: # (use "git add <file>..." to include in what will be committed) # # foo nothing added to commit but untracked files present (use "git add" to track) When I add the directory via git add foo nothing changes and git commit . gives me the same message again. What am I doing wrong? I thought I'm using a case-sensitive system (OSX) why can't I simply rename the directory?

• ASP.NET MVC: Problem generating thumbnails...need help!

  Ok, so i'm new to asp.net mvc and i'm trying to make a web application photo gallery. I've posted once on here about this issue i am having of trying to generate thumbnails on-the-fly on the page instead of the actual full-size images. Basically, the functionality i am looking for is to be able to have thumbnails on the page and then be able to click the images to see the full-size version. I am pulling the images and images info from an XML file. So, i did this so i could display them dynamically and so it would be easier to make changes later. Later, i am going to add functionality to upload new images to specific galleries (when i figure out how to do that as well). • CSS Padding Issue w/ submit button

  This is a dumb problem but I can't seem to set the padding on a submit button properly. No matter what I input for padding, the width and height of the button never changes. • How can developers use a similar tracking link to Google's results page?

  I've read heaps of pages of people trying to implement some kind of tracking system similar to the way Google reroutes search link. Eg: Search "Facebook" in Google, open in a new window, and the link changes to something like: "http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBkQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2F&rct=j&q=Facebook&ei=sksZTZexJobJccXnxZYK&usg=AFQjCNHTTNi-O4Qgrg6kvGVfKJuRqbuOKw&cad=rja" I'm guessing Google tracks that click and then redirects to the actual site by reading the url parameter. What I wanted to know is if there was a simple way that you can make this kind of functionality work using an onclick event - just change the link href after being clicked to redirect? There's a few threads, but from what I could find, nobody has actually succeeded without problems or limitations. Thanks in advance.

• ExtJS TabPanel content does not shrink in IE6

  I'm using ExtJS 3.2 and have content inside of a tab panel, and the tab panel inside of a container in a Viewport. The actual TabPanel resizes correctly on the viewport size changes, but the content inside a panel in the TabPanel seems to be a fixed width and will not shrink when the window is resized.The strange thing is it grows if I increase the window size. How can I get the content inside a Tabpanel to shrink on window resizing.   We want to implement a "News feed" where a user can see messages broadcasted by her friends, sorted with newest message first. But the feed should reflect changes in her friends list. (If she adds new friends, messages from those should be included in the feed, and if she removes friends their messages should not be included.) If we use the pubsub-test example and attach a recipient list to each message this means a lot of manipulation of the message recipients lists when users connect and disconnect friends. We first modeled publish-subscribe "fan out" using conventional RDBMS thinking. It seemed to work at first, but then, since the IN operator works the way it does, we quickly realized we couldn't continue on that path. We found Brett Slatkin's presentation from last years Google I/O and we have now watched it a few times but it isn't clear to us how to do it with "dynamic" recipient lists. What we need are some hints on how to "think" when modeling this.

  Okay, so I have classes class B<T> : A<T> class L : K and a method void Method(A<K> a) {...} What I would like to do is this b = new B<L>(); Method(b); //error But it is not possible to b to the correct type. Indeed it is not possible to make this cast A<K> t = new A<L>(); //error I would really like to not have to change the internals of Method. I have no problems making changes to B and/or L. Do I have any options for making some sort of workaround? I guess it should be possible for Method to execute all of its method calls etc. on b, since B derives from A and L derives from K?

  What's the best disassembler tool for the .NET reflector? By best I mean, saving a .NET assembly in a disassembled state in most readable, most likely to compile with fewer changes. The current one I use doesn't show simplified enumeration but shows the full IEnumerable implementations with MoveNext, etc with member names like: this.<4_state CS$<9_CachedAnonymousMethodDelegate3 Btw I am not trying to steal code, just trying out certain things on an already existing assembly instead of writing a similar thing from scratch. In the end, it's what I will learn from this that will stay, not the modified assembly.

• Can't use ProcessWindowStyle.Minimized to start Firefox instance minimized?

  I'm having trouble using Process.Start with Firefox. I want to start a new instance of Firefox in a minimized window. The following works fine with Internet Explorer, notepad, etc.: ProcessStartInfo p = new ProcessStartInfo(); p.FileName = "iexplore.exe"; p.Arguments = "http://www.google.com"; p.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Minimized; Process.Start(p); This opens IE in a new, minimized window. Good, just what I want. If I try the exact same thing but instead supply Firefox in the p.FileName, it opens Firefox in a "normal" window, rather than minimized. I've tried various changes to arguments, also have tried examining my local Firefox settings (under Tools/Options) with no luck. I'm sure I'm just missing something simple, but can't figure out what it is. If anyone can help me with getting Firefox opened in a minimized state it would be greatly appreciated!

I tried to use "CssClass" property of the drop down list to assign a CSS class and then accessing that list using that class, but later I found out that the class changes when an element is selected, so my initial class replaced by a new class. I also cannot use the "ClientID" property because the part of code that access that list is not inside the page, but in a separate javascript file. So how can I access it ?

  I've been trying to select the User Defined Language programmatically unsuccessfully through various means, another problem is the files I need to apply the user defined language have no file extension, old DOS files; NPPM_SETCURRENTLANGTYPE (only enumerates built-in languages) Macros don't seem to sense changes with language selection, I was hoping to record a macro then trigger it with NPPExec. Notepad++ accepts only in-built languages for starting from the command line I can't select a UDL as the default language for a new document. ...and my attempts at overriding an in-built language seem to have failed. I've copied details from userDefinedLang.xml to langs.xml don't work. The highlighting doesn't change. Thanks for any help!!

  I am using wamp and creating a Joomla template with changeable parameters. initially the message is The parameter file \templates\ssc_2010\params.ini is writable! once I make changes everything works as expected, except now i get the message: The parameter file \templates\ssc_2010\params.ini is unwritable! One solution is to brows to the directory, right click the file, select properties, and uncheck read-only. Again the file is writable but once I modify the parameters again it becomes read only again. I'm quite lazy and would like to prevent this from happening again, I've notice this happening in past projects, but now I have to work a lot with parameters so it becomes quite boring doing manual labor like that :P

  What I need to do is rewriting this address: (1) http://localhost/wordpress/fake/text-value to (2) http://localhost/wordpress/gallery?somevar=text-value Notes: the remapping must be transparent: the user always has to see address (1) gallery is a permalink to a wordpress page, not a real address I basically need to rewrite the address first (to modify it) and then feed it back to mod rewrite again (to let wordpress parse it its own way). Problems if I simply do RewriteRule ^fake$ http://localhost/wordpress/gallery [L] it works but the address in the browser changes, which is no good, if I do RewriteRule ^fake$ /wordpress/gallery [L] I get a 404. I tried different flags instead of [L] but to no avail. How can I get this to work?

• How to associate Wi-Fi beacon info with a virtual "location"?

  We have a piece of embedded hardware that will sense 802.11 beacons, and we're using this to make a map of currently visible bssid -> signalStrength. Given this map, we would like to make a determination: Is this likely to be a location I have been to before? If so, what is its ID? If not, I should remember this location: generate a new ID. Now what should I store (and how should I store it) to make future determinations easier? This is for an augmented-reality app/game. We will be using it to associate particular characters and events with "locations". The device does not have internet or cellular access, so using a geolocation service is out of consideration for the time being. (We don't really need to know where we are in reality, just be able to determine if we return there.) It isn't crucial that it be extremely accurate, but it would be nice if it was tolerant to signal strength changes or the occasional missing beacon. It should be usable in relatively low numbers of access points (e.g. rural house with one wireless router) or many (wandering around a dense metropolis). In the case of a city, it should change location every few minutes of walking (continuously-overlapping signals make this a bit more tricky in naive code). A reasonable number of false positives (match a location when we aren't actually there) is acceptable. The wrong character/event showing up just adds a bit of variety. False negatives (no location match) are a bit more troublesome: this will tend to add a better-matching new location to the saved locations, masking the old one. While we will have additional logic to ensure locations that the device hasn't seen in a while will "orphan" any associated characters or events (if e.g. you move to a different country), we'd prefer not to mask and eventually orphan locations you do visit regularly. Some technical complications: signalStrength is returned as 1-4; presumably it's related to dB, but we are not sure exactly how; in my experiments it tends to stick to either 1 or 4, but occasionally we see numbers in between. (Tech docs on the hardware are sparse.) The device completes a scan of one-quarter of the channel space every second; so it takes about 4-5 seconds to get a complete picture of what's around. The list isn't always complete. (We are making strides to fix this using some slight sampling period randomization, as recommended by the library docs. We're also investigating ways to increase the number of scans without killing our performance; the hardware/libs are poorly behaved when it comes to saturating the bus.) We have only kilobytes to store our history. We have a "working" impl now, but it is relatively naive, and flaky in the face of real-world Wi-Fi behavior. I have a feeling that we're missing some things from set theory or graph theory that would assist in grouping/classification of this data, and perhaps providing a better "confidence level" on matches, and better robustness against missed beacons, signal strength changes, and the like. Also it would be useful to have a good method for mutating locations over time. Any useful resources out there for this sort of thing? Simple and/or robust approaches we're missing?

• Branchless memory manager?

  Anyone thought about how to write a memory manager (in C++) that is completely branch free? I've written a pool, a stack, a queue, and a linked list (allocating from the pool), but I am wondering how plausible it is to write a branch free general memory manager. This is all to help make a really reusable framework for doing solid concurrent, in-order CPU, and cache friendly development. Edit: by branchless I mean without doing direct or indirect function calls, and without using ifs. I've been thinking that I can probably implement something that first changes the requested size to zero for false calls, but haven't really got much more than that. I feel that it's not impossible, but the other aspect of this exercise is then profiling it on said "unfriendly" processors to see if it's worth trying as hard as this to avoid branching.

• How to enforce remote gnupg signing of Mercurial repository only when new tags are created?

  I know how to configure the Mercurial signing extension. The problem that I'm having is that I don't want to sign each individual change set, I only want to sign revisions that introduce new version tags. That's easily accomplished locally, however I can't come up with a way to enforce this on the remote server. I'd like people to continue to be able to push their changes as normal, unless adding a release tag, which should be accompanied by a signature. The end result should be that anyone cloning our repository can easily see a list of signed revisions, which point to a list of signed releases. Hopefully, I've just missed something obvious in hooklib. Has anyone else accomplished this, if so, how?

• Sketchflow component target parent state

  Hi, I'm using Sketchflow in Expression Blend 4 RC (although this is relevant to Blend 3 too). I have a screen with a datagrid on it (MainScreen) and there's a "New" button. I have a component screen that has a generic form (GenericForm) and a "Save and close" button. I have two states on MainScreen: State1 (and default): GenericForm visibility set to Hidden State2: GenericForm visibility set to Visible The "New" button on MainScreen has: Active State = State2, meaning when the "New" button is pressed, it changes the state of MainScreen to State2 (where the GenericForm component is visible). My problem is that I cannot link the "Save and close" button on GenericForm to State1 on MainScreen. In effect I would like to be able to press "Save and close" and for the MainScreen to set its state to State1. Any ideas?
