    I am using the jQuery physics plugin for a pet project I am working on. The plugin enables the moving of DOM objects in realistic ways using velocity, gravity, wind etc. However I want to use the plugin to calculate where objects are to be placed inside a canvas element, not DOM objects.   • Why isn't my Ruby object deleted when the last reference goes out of scope?

    Hi gurus, I've found a weird effect when trying to track down a memory leak in a Rails app. Can anyone explain what's going on here? Save this script as a plain Ruby script (Rails not necessary): class Fnord def to_s 'fnord' end end def test f = Fnord.new end test GC.start sleep 2 ObjectSpace.each_object do |o| puts o if o.is_a? Fnord end When I run this via ruby 1.8.7 (2009-06-12 patchlevel 174) [i486-linux] I get the following: bash $ ruby var_test fnord Although the variable f is out of scope, there are no other references to the single Fnord object, and I've garbage collected, the object still seems to exist. Is this a nefarious memory leak of some sort, or am I completely missing something about Ruby? Further, if I change the test method to this: def test f = Fnord.new f = nil end I get no output. But surely this should not change the semantics here? Many thanks!

    Hi, Im currently building a new discount-webpage and Im looking for a solution to be able to hover over a discount button to reveal a small text without clicking. And after clicking on the button that the text in the flash button is copied into the clipboard and a new page open with a small frame from my window with the new page underneith. examples of this kind of script can be viewed on this page: http://www.retailmenot.com/ on the yellow boxes with the discount text. Im not looking for a free script or for someone to do this for me. All I want to know if there is another language to do this with like possibly java? and maybe some links to tutorials. (the current page solves this with flash which I havent worked with before.)

    I have a main build script that calls various targets. One of these targets needs to store a value and another target needs to display it. Obviously this is not working so I think it may be related to scope. I've tried var, property, and declaring the property outside of target1. Since var seems to be mutable, it looks like I need to use it instead, but each time my output is empty. I want it to be simple, short and secure. export CMDLINE="$@" # What is in CMDLINE now? Escaped or not? sh -c "someprogram $CMDLINE" # Will it do what I mean? Ideally I want two bash subroutines: the first turns turns any Bash array into a [a-zA-Z0-9_]* string, the other turns it back to Bash array I can use.

I am using the jQuery plugin from http://jquery.malsup.com/corner/ The problem is that the top corners are not rounding in Internet Explorer. Works fine with Firefox! Anybody got any advice?     What is the simplest way to manage dependencies of Java classes to data files present in the classpath? More specifically: How should data dependencies be annotated? Perhaps using Java annotations (e.g., @Data)? Or rather some build entries in a build script or a properties file? Is there build tool that integrates and evaluates such information (Ant, Scons, ...)? Do you have examples? Consider the following scenario: A few lines of Ant create a Jar from my sources that includes everything found on the classpath. Then jarjar is used to remove all .class files that are not necessary to execute, say, class Foo. The problem is that all the data files that class Bar depends upon are still there in the Jar. The ideal deployment script, however, would recognize that the data files on which only class Bar depends can be removed while data files on which class Foo depends must be retained. Any hints?

    I'm toying with the new autocomplete in jQuery 1.8-UI. I've provided data in the following format ["val1", "val2", "val3"] This is coming from a stored procedure but output as a string. For some reason this doesn't work at all, however, if I supply the same data using a javascript variable var data = ["val1", "val2", "val3"]; Then this works fine. <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() $("#txtClient").autocomplete({ source: "/intranet/common/scripts/IntranetLists.aspx?ListType=C" }); }); </script> I've got a page which supplies whatever data I want using query strings. It's more temporary, but it worked when I previously used bassistence's autocomplete. Any ideas?

    Hey, I am creating a website in Ruby on Rails. I have a controller action that renders a view like so: def show time_left = Time.now.to_i - 3.hours.to_i @character = current_user.characters.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| format.html # show.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @character } end end This is fine as it renders the show.html.erb as I like. I would like however to somehow pass time_left to the view as a Javascript variable as this value is use by a countdown JQuery plugin. I could put a javascript block on the page in the HTML and print a instance variable out like so: <script type="javascript"> $('#countdown').countdown('<%= @time_left =>')</script> But I would like to keep all my JS in a external file and off the page could anyone give some advice on how to implement this?   • Environment variable (NLS_LANG) value altered in Java process?

    This was noticed in some legacy Java application (jre1.4 on HP-UX). Parent process (shell script S1) is starting Java process, which on its own is starting child process (shell script S2). Schematically it's: S1 Java S2. NB! Java application connects to Oracle DB using OCI driver. What is strange here is that process running S1 has environment variable NLS_LANG set to american_america.BLT8MSWIN1257, Java spawns S2 using: Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd); and S2 shows that NLS_LANG is set to american_america.UTF8 (!) This happens on some limited-access environment (production), I was not able to reproduce same problem on linux with jre 1.5. AFAIK, Java process should inherit environment from its parrent (S1) and should pass all environment variables to its child S2 (since single argument exec call was used). However, it does not seem to be the case. Any ideas why NLS_LANG appears to be altered?

    Okay, I have a list of URLs in a MySQL table. I want the script to automatically check each link in the table for 404, and afterward I want it to store whether the URL was 404'd or not, as well as store a time for last checked. Is this even possible to do automatically, even if no one runs the script? ie, no one visits the page for a few days, but even with no one visiting the page, it automatically ran the test. If its possible, how could I go about making a button to do this?

  • Why would ftp_connect() return false on production server if it works elsewhere for connecting to th

    I have a script that uses ftp_connect() among other FTP PHP functions for uploading a file. ftp_connect() works when executed on my local development server for connecting to a remote FTP server. The same script, when executed on the remote server does not work for connecting to the exact same FTP server. Could somebody please point me in the right direction? Thanks!     I am frustrated. I have a simple doubt .. I compile a simple program with gcc and if I see the section header using objdump, it does not show the section ".symtab". for the same a.out file, readelf shows the section. see the below snip - [25] .symtab SYMTAB 00000000 000ca4 000480 10 26 2c 4 [26] .strtab STRTAB 00000000 001124 00025c 00 0 0 1 Why ? In the default linker script I don't find a definition for .symtab section. If I add a definition by myself like in the linker script : .... PROVIDE(__start_sym) .symtab : { *(.symtab)} PROVIDE(__end_sym) .... the difference b/w the addresses of __start_sym and __end_sym is zero, which means no such section is added in the output file. But the readelf is able to read the section and dump the contents of this section .. How ? why ?

    Hi all! I've a php script that only produces logs to the client. When I echo something, i wan't it to be transfered to client on-the-fly. (Because while the script is processing, the page is blank) I had already played arround with ob_start() and ob_flush(), but they didn't worked. What's the best solution?     Im trying to make a table row work as a link to another view in my mvc website. Instead of using the standard "Details" link provided by the auto generated table list, I would like to use the table row as a link to the "Details" view instead. So somehow I need to make the row work as a link. Each rom has a unique id that I need to pass on to the controller method. I have tried different solutions but noting happens when I press on the table row...
