  • WPF create a list of controls that can be scrolled via the mouse but still remain functional

    - by Mark
    I have a list of controls that I am displaying via a WrapPanel and it horizontally oriented. I have implemented a "Click and Drag" scrolling technique so that the user scrolls with the mouse via clicking and dragging. Like so: <Canvas x:Name="ParentCanvas" PreviewMouseDown="Canvas_MouseDown" MouseMove="Canvas_MouseMove"> <WrapPanel> <WrapPanel.RenderTransform> <TranslateTransform /> </WrapPanel.RenderTransform> <!-- controls are all in here ... --> </WrapPanel> </Canvas> Then in the code behind: private Point _mousePosition; private Point _lastMousePosition; private void Canvas_MouseDown(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { _lastMousePosition = e.GetPosition(ParentCanvas); e.Handled = true; } private void Canvas_MouseMove(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { _mousePosition = e.GetPosition(ParentCanvas); var delta = _mousePosition - _lastMousePosition; if(e.LeftButton == MouseButtonState.Pressed && delta.X != 0) { var transform = ((TranslateTransform)_wrapPanel.RenderTransform).Clone(); transform.X += delta.X; _wrapPanel.RenderTransform = transform; _lastMousePosition = _mousePosition; } } This all works fine But what I want to do is make it so that when a users clicks to drag, the items within the WrapPanel dont respond (i.e. the user is only browsing), but when the user clicks (as in a full click) then they do respond to the click. Just like how the iphone works, when you press and drag directly on an app, it does not open the app, but rather scrolls the screen, but when you tap the app, it starts... I hope this makes sense. Cheers, Mark

  • Why is Core Data not persisting these changes to disk?

    - by scott
    I added a new entity to my model and it loads fine but no changes made in memory get persisted to disk. My values set on the car object work fine in memory but aren't getting persisted to disk on hitting the home button (in simulator). I am using almost exactly the same code on another entity in my application and its values persist to disk fine (core data - sqlite3); Does anyone have a clue what I'm overlooking here? Car is the managed object, cars in an NSMutableArray of car objects and Car is the entity and Visible is the attribute on the entity which I am trying to set. Thanks for you assistance. Scott - (void)viewDidLoad { myAppDelegate* appDelegate = (myAppDelegate*)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSManagedObjectContext* managedObjectContex = appDelegate.managedObjectContext; NSFetchRequest* request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription* entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Car" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContex]; [request setEntity:entity]; NSSortDescriptor* sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"Name" ascending:YES]; NSArray* sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptor, nil]; [request setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [sortDescriptors release]; [sortDescriptor release]; NSError* error = nil; cars = [[managedObjectContex executeFetchRequest:request error:&error] mutableCopy]; if (cars == nil) { NSLog(@"Can't load the Cars data! Error: %@, %@", error, [error userInfo]); } [request release]; } - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath*)indexPath { Car* car = [cars objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; if (car.Visible == [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES]) { car.Visible = [NSNumber numberWithBool:NO]; [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath].accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryNone; } else { car.Visible = [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES]; [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath].accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryCheckmark; } }

  • UIImagePickerControllerDelegate Returns Blank "editingInfo" Dictionary Object

    - by Leachy Peachy
    Hi there, I have an iPhone app that calls upon the UIImagePickerController to offer folks a choice between selecting images via the camera or via their photo library on the phone. The problem is that sometimes, (Can't always get it to replicate.), the editingInfo dictionary object that is supposed to be returned by didFinishPickingImage delegate message, comes back blank or (null). Has anyone else seen this before? I am implementing the UIImagePickerControllerDelegate in my .h file and I am correctly implementing the two delegate methods: didFinishPickingImage and imagePickerControllerDidCancel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! Here is my code... my .h file: @interface AddPhotoController : UIViewController <UIImagePickerControllerDelegate, UINavigationControllerDelegate> { IBOutlet UIImageView *imageView; IBOutlet UIButton *snapNewPictureButton; IBOutlet UIButton *selectFromPhotoLibraryButton; } @property (nonatomic, retain) UIImageView *imageView; @property (nonatomic, retain) UIButton *snapNewPictureButton; @property (nonatomic, retain) UIButton * selectFromPhotoLibraryButton; my .m file: @implementation AddPhotoController @synthesize imageView, snapNewPictureButton, selectFromPhotoLibraryButton; - (IBAction)getCameraPicture:(id)sender { UIImagePickerController *picker = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; picker.delegate = self; picker.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; picker.allowsImageEditing = YES; [self presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES]; [picker release]; } - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingImage:(UIImage *)image editingInfo:(NSDictionary *)editingInfo { NSLog(@"Image Meta Info.: %@",editingInfo); UIImage *selectedImage = image; imageView.image = selectedImage; self._havePictureData = YES; [self.useThisPhotoButton setEnabled:YES]; [picker dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } - (void)imagePickerControllerDidCancel:(UIImagePickerController *)picker { [picker dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; }

  • Design of std::ifstream class

    - by Nawaz
    Those of us who have seen the beauty of STL try to use it as much as possible, and also encourage others to use it wherever we see them using raw pointers and arrays. Scott Meyers have written a whole book on STL, with title Effective STL. Yet what happened to the developers of ifstream that they preferred char* over std::string. I wonder why the first parameter of ifstream::open() is of type const char*, instead of const std::string &. Please have a look at it's signature: void open(const char * filename, ios_base::openmode mode = ios_base::in ); Why this? Why not this: void open(const string & filename, ios_base::openmode mode = ios_base::in ); Is this a serious mistake with the design? Or this design is deliberate? What could be the reason? I don't see any reason why they have preferred char* over std::string. Note we could still pass char* to the latter function that takes std::string. That's not a problem! By the way, I'm aware that ifstream is a typedef, so no comment on my title.:P. It looks short that is why I used it. The actual class template is : template<class _Elem,class _Traits> class basic_ifstream;

  • Flex fixed and variable height - can it be set in markup?

    - by Prutswonder
    I've got the following Flex application markup: <app:MyApplicationClass xmlns:app="*" width="100%" height="100%" layout="vertical" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" verticalScrollPolicy="off"> <mx:VBox id="idPageContainer" width="100%" height="100%" verticalGap="0" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" verticalScrollPolicy="off"> <mx:HBox id="idTopContainer" width="100%" height="28" horizontalGap="2"> (top menu stuff goes here) </mx:HBox> <mx:HBox id="idBottomContainer" width="100%" height="100%" verticalScrollPolicy="off" clipContent="false"> (page stuff goes here) </mx:HBox> </mx:VBox> </app:MyApplicationClass> When I run it, it displays top panel with a fixed height, and a bottom panel with variable height. I expect the bottom panel's height to contain the remaining height, but it somehow overflows off-page. The only way I found to fix this height issue (so far) is to programmatically set the height to be fixed instead of variable: <mx:HBox id="idBottomContainer" width="100%" height="700" verticalScrollPolicy="off" clipContent="false"> (page stuff goes here) </mx:HBox> And code-behind: package { import mx.containers.HBox; import mx.core.Application; import mx.events.ResizeEvent; // (...) public class MyApplicationClass extends Application { public var idBottomContainer:HBox; // (...) private function ON_CreationComplete (event:FlexEvent) : void { // (...) addEventListener(ResizeEvent.RESIZE, ON_Resize); } private function ON_Resize (event:Event) : void { idBottomContainer.height = this.height - idTopContainer.height; } } } But this solution is too "dirty" and I'm looking for a more elegant way. Does anyone know an alternative?

  • How to pass date parameters to Crystal Reports 2008 from an ASP.NET App?

    - by Unlimited071
    Hello all, I'm passing some parameters to a CR report programatically and it was working fine, but now that I have added a new date parameter to the report, for some reason, it is prompting me to enter that parameter on screen (the user isn't allowed to set that parameter is the system who must set it.), I haven't changed a thing other than adding the new date parameter, and all the other parameters behave normal, just the date parameter is prompted even thought I've already set a value for the parameter. This is the code I've got: private void ConfigureCrystalReports() { crystalReportViewer.ReportSource = GetReportPath(); crystalReportViewer.DataBind(); ConnectionInfo connectionInfo = GetConnectionInfo(); TableLogOnInfos tableLogOnInfos = crystalReportViewer.LogOnInfo; foreach (TableLogOnInfo tableLogOnInfo in tableLogOnInfos) { tableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = connectionInfo; } ArrayList totOriValues = new ArrayList(); totOriValues.Add(date.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss")); ParameterFields parameterFields = crystalReportViewer.ParameterFieldInfo; SetCurrentValuesForParameterField(parameterFields, totOriValues, "DateParameter"); } private static void SetCurrentValuesForParameterField(ParameterFields parameterFields, ArrayList arrayList, string parameterName) { ParameterValues currentParameterValues = new ParameterValues(); foreach (object submittedValue in arrayList) { ParameterDiscreteValue parameterDiscreteValue = new ParameterDiscreteValue(); parameterDiscreteValue.Value = submittedValue.ToString(); currentParameterValues.Add(parameterDiscreteValue); } ParameterField parameterField = parameterFields[parameterName]; parameterField.CurrentValues = currentParameterValues; } Just for the sake of things: I have checked that the parameter is indeed a date and that it is well formed. CR prompts me to enter it in the format (mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss) so I pass date in that exact format (In fact I've even tried hard coding a well-formed date and it still prompts me to enter the date). Am I doing something wrong?

  • Serializing QGraphicsScene contents

    - by Rob
    I am using the Qt QGraphicsScene class, adding pre-defined items such as QGraphicsRectItem, QGraphicsLineItem, etc. and I want to serialize the scene contents to disk. However, the base QGraphicsItem class (that the other items I use derive from) doesn't support serialization so I need to roll my own code. The problem is that all access to these objects is via a base QGraphicsItem pointer, so the serialization code I have is horrible: QGraphicsScene* scene = new QGraphicsScene; scene->addRect(QRectF(0, 0, 100, 100)); scene->addLine(QLineF(0, 0, 100, 100)); ... QList<QGraphicsItem*> list = scene->items(); foreach (QGraphicsItem* item, items) { if (item->type() == QGraphicsRectItem::Type) { QGraphicsRectItem* rect = qgraphicsitem_cast<QGraphicsRectItem*>(item); // Access QGraphicsRectItem members here } else if (item->type() == QGraphicsLineItem::Type) { QGraphicsLineItem* line = qgraphicsitem_cast<QGraphicsLineItem*>(item); // Access QGraphicsLineItem members here } ... } This is not good code IMHO. So, instead I could create an ABC class like this: class Item { public: virtual void serialize(QDataStream& strm, int version) = 0; }; class Rect : public QGraphicsRectItem, public Item { public: void serialize(QDataStream& strm, int version) { // Serialize this object } ... }; I can then add Rect objects using QGraphicsScene::addItem(new Rect(,,,)); But this doesn't really help me as the following will crash: QList<QGraphicsItem*> list = scene->items(); foreach (QGraphicsItem* item, items) { Item* myitem = reinterpret_class<Item*>(item); myitem->serialize(...) // FAIL } Any way I can make this work?

  • I am confused -- Will this code always work?

    - by Shekhar
    Hello, I have written this piece of code public class Test{ public static void main(String[] args) { List<Integer> list = new ArrayList<Integer>(); for(int i = 1;i<= 4;i++){ new Thread(new TestTask(i, list)).start(); } while(list.size() != 4){ // this while loop required so that all threads complete their work } System.out.println("List "+list); } } class TestTask implements Runnable{ private int sequence; private List<Integer> list; public TestTask(int sequence, List<Integer> list) { this.sequence = sequence; this.list = list; } @Override public void run() { list.add(sequence); } } This code works and prints all the four elements of list on my machine. My question is that will this code always work. I think there might be a issue in this code when two/or more threads add element to this list at the same point. In that case it while loop will never end and code will fail. Can anybody suggest a better way to do this? I am not very good at multithreading and don't know which concurrent collection i can use? Thanks Shekhar

  • Learning C++ from scratch in Visual Studio?

    - by flesh
    I need to get up to speed with C++ quite quickly (I've never used it previously) - is learning through Visual Studio (i.e. Managed C++) going to be any use? Or will I end up learning the extensions and idiosyncracies of C++ in VS, rather then the language itself? If learning in VS is not recommended, what platform / IDE do you guys suggest? Edit: Can anyone elaborate on what VS will hide or manage for me when coding unmanaged C++? I really need to be learning things like pointers, garbage collection and all the nuts and bolts of the low level language.. does VS abstract or hide any of this kind of stuff from you? Thanks for all the suggestions..

  • volatile keyword seems to be useless?

    - by Finbarr
    import java.util.concurrent.CountDownLatch; import java.util.concurrent.atomic.AtomicInteger; public class Main implements Runnable { private final CountDownLatch cdl1 = new CountDownLatch(NUM_THREADS); private volatile int bar = 0; private AtomicInteger count = new AtomicInteger(0); private static final int NUM_THREADS = 25; public static void main(String[] args) { Main main = new Main(); for(int i = 0; i < NUM_THREADS; i++) new Thread(main).start(); } public void run() { int i = count.incrementAndGet(); cdl1.countDown(); try { cdl1.await(); } catch (InterruptedException e1) { e1.printStackTrace(); } bar = i; if(bar != i) System.out.println("Bar not equal to i"); else System.out.println("Bar equal to i"); } } Each Thread enters the run method and acquires a unique, thread confined, int variable i by getting a value from the AtomicInteger called count. Each Thread then awaits the CountDownLatch called cdl1 (when the last Thread reaches the latch, all Threads are released). When the latch is released each thread attempts to assign their confined i value to the shared, volatile, int called bar. I would expect every Thread except one to print out "Bar not equal to i", but every Thread prints "Bar equal to i". Eh, wtf does volatile actually do if not this?

  • java - powermock whenNew doesnt seem to work, calls the actual constructor

    - by user1331243
    I have two final classes that are used in my unit test. I am trying to use whenNew on the constructor of a final class, but I see that it calls the actual constructor. The code is @PrepareForTest({A.class, B.class, Provider.class}) @Test public void testGetStatus() throws Exception { B b = mock(B.class); when(b.getStatus()).thenReturn(1); whenNew(B.class).withArguments(anyString()).thenReturn(b); Provider p = new Provider(); int val = p.getStatus(); assertTrue((val == 1)); } public class Provider { public int getStatus() { B b = new B("test"); return b.getStatus(); } } public final class A { private void init() { // ...do soemthing } private static A a; private A() { } public static A getInstance() { if (a == null) { a = new A(); a.init(); } return a; } } public final class B { public B() { } public B(String s) { this(A.getInstance(), s); } public B(A a, String s) { } public int getStatus() { return 0; } } On debug, I find that its the actual class B instance created and not the mock instance that is returned for new usage and assertion fails. Any pointers on how to get this working. Thanks

  • Data Structures for Junior Java Developer

    - by user1639637
    Ok,still learning Arrays. I wrote this code which fills the array named "rand" with random numbers between 0 and 1( exclusive). I want to start learning Complexity. the For loop executes n times (100 times) ,every time it takes O(1) time,so the worse case scenario is O(n),am I right? Also,I used ArrayList to store the 100 elements and I imported "Collections" and used Collections.sort() method to sort the elements. import java.util.Arrays; public class random { public static void main(String args[]) { double[] rand=new double[10]; for(int i=0;i<rand.length;i++) { rand[i]=(double) Math.random(); System.out.println(rand[i]); } Arrays.sort(rand); System.out.println(Arrays.toString(rand)); } } ArrayList: import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.Collections; public class random { public static void main(String args[]) { ArrayList<Double> MyArrayList=new ArrayList<Double>(); for(int i=0;i<100;i++) { MyArrayList.add(Math.random()); } Collections.sort(MyArrayList); for(int j=0;j<MyArrayList.size();j++) { System.out.println(MyArrayList.get(j)); } } }

  • how to play an audio soundclip when a nib is loaded - welcome screen - xcode

    - by Pavan
    I would like to do the following two things: 1) I would like to play an audio file qhen a nib is loaded 2) After that i would like to switch views when the audio file has finished playing. This will be easy as i just need to call the event that initiates the change of view by using the delegate method -(void) audioPlayerDidFinishPlaying{ //code to change view } I dont know how to to play the audio file when a nib is loaded. Using the AVFoundation framework, I tried doing the following after setting up the audio player and the variables associated with it in the appropriate places i wrote the following: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSString *soundFilePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource: @"sound" ofType: @"mp3"]; NSURL *fileURL = [[NSURL alloc] initFileURLWithPath: soundFilePath]; AVAudioPlayer *newPlayer = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL: fileURL error:nil]; [fileURL release]; self.player = newPlayer; [newPlayer release]; [player prepareToPlay]; [player setDelegate: self]; [player play]; } Although this does not play the file as the viewdidload method gets called before the nib is shown so the audio is never played or heard. What do i need to do so that i can play the audio file AFTER the nib has loaded and is shown on the screen? can someone please help me as ive been working on this for 3 hours now. Thanks in advance.

  • Help with Hashmaps in Java

    - by Crystal
    I'm not sure how I use get() to get my information. Looking at my book, they pass the key to get(). I thought that get() returns the object associated with that key looking at the documentation. But I must be doing something wrong here.... Any thoughts? import java.util.*; public class OrganizeThis { /** Add a person to the organizer @param p A person object */ public void add(Person p) { staff.put(p, p.getEmail()); System.out.println("Person " + p + "added"); } /** * Find the person stored in the organizer with the email address. * Note, each person will have a unique email address. * * @param email The person email address you are looking for. * */ public Person findByEmail(String email) { Person aPerson = staff.get(email); return aPerson; } private Map<Person, String> staff = new HashMap<Person, String>(); public static void main(String[] args) { OrganizeThis testObj = new OrganizeThis(); Person person1 = new Person("J", "W", "111-222-3333", "[email protected]"); testObj.add(person1); System.out.println(testObj.findByEmail("[email protected]")); } }

  • Prevent default on a click within a JQuery tabs in Google Chrome.

    - by Sydney
    I would like to prevent the default behaviour of a click on a link. I tried the return false; also javascript:void(0); in the href attribute but it doesn’t seem to work. It works fine in Firefox, but not in Chrome and IE. I have a single tab that loads via AJAX the content which is a simple link. <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("#tabs").tabs({ ajaxOptions: { error: function(xhr, status, index, anchor) { $(anchor.hash).html("Couldn't load this tab. We'll try to fix this as soon as possible. If this wouldn't be a demo."); }, success: function() { alert('hello'); $('#lk').click(function() { alert('Click Me'); return false; }); } }, load: function(event, ui) { $('a', ui.panel).click(function() { $(ui.panel).load(this.href); return false; }); } }); }); </script> <body> <div id="tabs"> <ul> <li><a href="linkChild.htm">Link</a></li> </ul> </div> </body> The content of linkChild.htm is <a href="javascript:void(0)" id="lk">Click Me</a> So basically when the tab content is loaded with success, a click event is attached to the link “lk”. When I click on the link, the alert is displayed but then link disappears. I check the HTML and the element is actually removed from the DOM.

  • quartz.net - Can I not add a callback delegate method to JobExecutionContext?

    - by Greg
    Hi, BACKGROUND - I have a synchroisation function within my MainForm class. It gets called manually when the user pushes the SYNC button. I want to also call this synchroisation function when the scheduler triggers too, so effectively want SchedulerJob:IJob.Execute() method to be able to call it. QUESTION - How do I access the MainForm.Sychronization() method from within the SchedulerJob:IJob.Execute() method? I tried creating a delegate for this method in the MainForm class and getting it added via jobDetail.JobDataMap. However when I try I'm not sure that JobDataMap has a method to pull out a Delegate type??? private void Schedule(MainForm.SyncDelegate _syncNow) { var jobDetail = new JobDetail("MainJob", null, typeof(SchedulerJob)); jobDetail.JobDataMap["CallbackMethod"] = _syncNow; // Trigger Setup var trigger = new CronTrigger("MainTrigger"); string expression = GetCronExpression(); trigger.CronExpressionString = expression; trigger.StartTimeUtc = DateTime.Now.ToUniversalTime(); // Schedule Job & Trigger _scheduler.ScheduleJob(jobDetail, trigger); } public class SchedulerJob : IJob { public SchedulerJob() { } public void Execute(JobExecutionContext context) { JobDataMap dataMap = context.JobDetail.JobDataMap; MainForm.SyncDelegate CallbackFunction = dataMap.getDelegate["CallbackMethod"]; **// THIS METHOD DOESN'T EXIST - getDelegate()** CallbackFunction(); } } thanks

  • Set HttpContext.Current.User from Thread.CurrentPrincipal

    - by Argons
    I have a security manager in my application that works for both windows and web, the process is simple, just takes the user and pwd and authenticates them against a database then sets the Thread.CurrentPrincipal with a custom principal. For windows applications this works fine, but I have problems with web applications. After the process of authentication, when I'm trying to set the Current.User to the custom principal from Thread.CurrentPrincipal this last one contains a GenericPrincipal. Am I doing something wrong? This is my code: Login.aspx protected void btnAuthenticate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Authenticate("user","pwd"); FormsAuthenticationTicket authenticationTicket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(1, "user", DateTime.Now, DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(30), false, ""); string ticket = FormsAuthentication.Encrypt(authenticationTicket); HttpCookie authenticationCookie = new HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName, ticket); Response.Cookies.Add(authenticationCookie); Response.Redirect(FormsAuthentication.GetRedirectUrl("user", false)); } Global.asax (This is where the problem appears) protected void Application_AuthenticateRequest(object sender, EventArgs e) { HttpCookie authCookie = Context.Request.Cookies[FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName]; if (authCookie == null) return; if (HttpContext.Current.User != null && HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated && HttpContext.Current.User.Identity is FormsIdentity) { HttpContext.Current.User = System.Threading.Thread.CurrentPrincipal; //Here the value is GenericPrincipal } Thanks in advance for any help. }

  • Java Code for calculating Leap Year, is this code correct ?

    - by Ibn Saeed
    Hello I am following "The Art and Science of Java" book and it shows how to calculate a leap year. The book uses ACM Java Task Force's library. Here is the code the books uses: import acm.program.*; public class LeapYear extends ConsoleProgram { public void run() { println("This program calculates leap year."); int year = readInt("Enter the year: "); boolean isLeapYear = ((year % 4 == 0) && (year % 100 != 0) || (year % 400 == 0)); if (isLeapYear) { println(year + " is a leap year."); } else println(year + " is not a leap year."); } } Now, this is how I calculated the leap year. import acm.program.*; public class LeapYear extends ConsoleProgram { public void run() { println("This program calculates leap year."); int year = readInt("Enter the year: "); if ((year % 4 == 0) && year % 100 != 0) { println(year + " is a leap year."); } else if ((year % 4 == 0) && (year % 100 == 0) && (year % 400 == 0)) { println(year + " is a leap year."); } else { println(year + " is not a leap year."); } } } Is there anything wrong with my code or should i use the one provided by the book ? EDIT :: Both of the above code works fine, What i want to ask is which code is the best way to calculate the leap year.

  • Java CountDownLatch used to wait for JFrame to dispose

    - by Brian
    I have referenced this previous question as well as other sources, but cannot get CountDownLatch to work correctly. Background: mainFrame creates new Frame called dataEntryFrame. When dataEntryFrame "Submit" button is clicked, record added to database and dataEntryFrame disposed. At this point, mainFrame should clear and reload a jList that shows all records. Issue: When dataEntryFrame loads, java freezes, dataEntryFrame components never load. I cannot get past this part... then, in the DataEntryFrame, CountDownLatch should only decrements after the submit button is clicked, successfully adds a record to a database table, and disposes itself. Or when the user clicks cancel... Code: From MainFrame CountDownLatch dataEntryDone = new CountDownLatch(1); DataEntryFrame f = new DataEntryFrame(dataEntryDone); Thread newThread = new Thread(f); newThread.start(); dataEntryDone.await(); Code: From DataEntryFrame public void run(){ initComponents(); loadOtherData(); this.setVisible(true); } void submit(){ addRecord(); this.dispose() dataEntryDone.countDown(); }

  • Why do bind1st and bind2nd require constant function objects?

    - by rlbond
    So, I was writing a C++ program which would allow me to take control of the entire world. I was all done writing the final translation unit, but I got an error: error C3848: expression having type 'const `anonymous-namespace'::ElementAccumulator<T,BinaryFunction>' would lose some const-volatile qualifiers in order to call 'void `anonymous-namespace'::ElementAccumulator<T,BinaryFunction>::operator ()(const point::Point &,const int &)' with [ T=SideCounter, BinaryFunction=std::plus<int> ] c:\program files (x86)\microsoft visual studio 9.0\vc\include\functional(324) : while compiling class template member function 'void std::binder2nd<_Fn2>::operator ()(point::Point &) const' with [ _Fn2=`anonymous-namespace'::ElementAccumulator<SideCounter,std::plus<int>> ] c:\users\****\documents\visual studio 2008\projects\TAKE_OVER_THE_WORLD\grid_divider.cpp(361) : see reference to class template instantiation 'std::binder2nd<_Fn2>' being compiled with [ _Fn2=`anonymous-namespace'::ElementAccumulator<SideCounter,std::plus<int>> ] I looked in the specifications of binder2nd and there it was: it took a const AdaptibleBinaryFunction. So, not a big deal, I thought. I just used boost::bind instead, right? Wrong! Now my take-over-the-world program takes too long to compile (bind is used inside a template which is instantiated quite a lot)! At this rate, my nemesis is going to take over the world first! I can't let that happen -- he uses Java! So can someone tell me why this design decision was made? It seems like an odd decision. I guess I'll have to make some of the elements of my class mutable for now...

  • How does static code run with multiple threads?

    - by Krisc
    I was reading http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1511798/threading-from-within-a-class-with-static-and-non-static-methods and I am in a similar situation. I have a static method that pulls data from a resource and creates some runtime objects based on the data. static class Worker{ public static MyObject DoWork(string filename){ MyObject mo = new MyObject(); // ... does some work return mo; } } The method takes awhile (in this case it is reading 5-10mb files) and returns an object. I want to take this method and use it in a multiple thread situation so I can read multiple files at once. Design issues / guidelines aside, how would multiple threads access this code? Let's say I have something like this... class ThreadedWorker { public void Run() { Thread t = new Thread(OnRun); t.Start(); } void OnRun() { MyObject mo = Worker.DoWork("somefilename"); mo.WriteToConsole(); } } Does the static method run for each thread, allowing for parallel execution?

  • wrapping user controls in a transaction

    - by Hans Gruber
    I'm working on heavily dynamic and configurable CMS system. Therefore, many pages are composed of a dynamically loaded set of user controls. To enable loose coupling between containers (pages) and children (user controls), all user controls are responsible for their own persistence. Each User Control is wired up to its data/service layer dependencies via IoC. They also implement an IPersistable interface, which allows the container .aspx page to issue a Save command to its children without knowledge of the number or exact nature of these user controls. Note: what follows is only pseudo-code: public class MyUserControl : IPersistable, IValidatable { public void Save() { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public bool IsValid() { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } public partial class MyPage { public void btnSave_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { foreach (IValidatable control in Controls) { if (!control.IsValid) { throw new Exception("error"); } } foreach (IPersistable control in Controls) { if (!control.Save) { throw new Exception("error"); } } } } I'm thinking of using declarative transactions from the System.EnterpriseService namespace to wrap the btnSave_Click in a transaction in case of an exception, but I'm not sure how this might be achieved or any pitfalls to such an approach.
