  • Need some help on tomcat URL mod_rewrite or mod_jk

    I am trying to remove the context name from the url of my server. Current URL - http://www.domainname.com/MyApp/ What I need to make is to make it avaialble at - www.domainname.com/ So it is only going to host one main app and that needs to be displayed when we open www.domainname.com/ on browser. I have already tried couple of things like below - RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(Context/.*)$ RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /Context/$1 [P,L] OR redirect permanent /MyApp/ abcd://domainname.com OR Using JKMount - JkMount /MyApp/* ajp13 JkMount /MyApp* ajp13 OR Deploy war file to ROOT of tomcat and make relevant chagnes in web and server.xml All of these aren't working and I keep getting a intenal error.   • Help w/ iPad 1 performance for tile-based DOM Javascript game

    I've made a 2D tile-based game with DOM/Javascript. For each level, the map data is loaded and parsed, then lots of tiles ( elements) are drawn onto a larger "map" element. The map is inside of a container that hides overflow, so I can move the map element around by positioning it absolutely. Works a treat on desktop browsers, and my iPad 2. My problem is that performance is really bad on iPad 1. The performance hit is directly related to all the tile elements in my map, because when I remove or reduce the number of tiles drawn, performance improves. Optimizing my collision detection loop has no effect. My first thought was to batch groups of tiles into containers, then hide/show them based on proximity to the player, however this still causes a huge hiccup when the player moves and a new group of tiles is displayed (offscreen). Actually removing the out-of-sight elements from the DOM, then re-adding them as necessary is no faster. Anyone know of any tips that might speed up DOM performance here? My map is 1920 x 1920 pixels, so as far as I know should be within the WebKit texture limit on iOS 5/iPad. The map is being moved with CSS3 transforms, and I've picked all the other obvious low-hanging fruit.

  • Help us with our git workflow

    We have a web application that gets deployed to multiple regions around our state. An instance of the application for each region. We maintain a staging and production (master) branch in our repository, but we were wondering what is the best way of maintaining each instances codebase. It's similar at the core, but we have to give each region the ability to make specific requests that may not make it into the core of the application. Right now we have branches for each region, like region_one_staging, and region_one_production. At the rate we're growing we'll have hundreds of branches here in the next few years. Is there a better way to do this?

  • Help Decide between C#/XNA client or Java

    The game runs on a client/server architecture currently setup for TCP, and the client code was built in AS3 to be web based. What we're running into is 3 problems for the client. AS3 has no hardware acceleration so we are having some issues with slowdown when implementing some features TCP is really frustrating for a sidescroller when you're talking with a server. I'm having a heck of a time with the interpolation/extrapolation to make everyone else look smooth while minimizing lag. I would much rather be able to use UDP and throw in something similar to the age old Quake interpolation/extrapolation. No right click I work professionally with C#, and I did all my University (almost 2 years ago) with Java. Java really appeals to me because of the compatability while C# appeals to me because I've heard so much good about XNA and I love visual studio. For a Client/Server based MMOish sidescroller in your opinion should I stick with AS3 and the TCP protocol, or should I abandon some of my audience, ramp up the graphics and hit C#, or journey back to the land of Java.   • Need help to install persistent Ubuntu on USB drive

    I am a new user of Ubuntu. I would like to install a persistent Ubuntu 11.04 to my USB stick, and it should be able to work as a guest OS running on Windows so that I can boot it on other computers other than the one which I used for the installation. I have used several creators such as unetbootin, however from my understanding it can only create Live Linux which I am unable to save my configurations and files. If it's possible I would like to bypass the BIOS, that is to say that I can just load from the virtual machine without having to restart the computer. Thanks in advance!

    I'm trying to install ubuntu on my hdd which doesnt contain any operatin system, mbr or grub. (it has 3 partitions, 1st includes my data on ntfs file system, second is linux swap now, and third ex4 filesystem) Of course i don't want to lose my data on ntfs partition. Anyway i installed ubuntu on ex4 filesystem, selected sda as device for bootloader (not sda1,2 or 2). But i got error Error:unknown filesystem Grub rescue I tried ls command. It gives (hd0) , (hd,msdos1), (hd0,msdos2) and (hd0,msdos3). then tried ls (hd0)/, ls (hd0,1)/, ls (hd0,msdos2)/, ls (hd0,msdos3)/ to find the linux filesystem to boot. But i was unsuccessful. it all gave me unknown filesystem error. Am i missing or something?

Is it true that once all the servlets found in a web-app/WEBAPPNAME are init(IALIZED) then every change of a Servlet's property will be seen to every session. So session 1 changes a property userName of a Servlet1 from "user1" to "user2" session 1 is closed. session 2 starts. It will see "user2" as the only value of Servlet1.userName property?? Any change of a Servlet's field will be seen to all subsequent sessions? Are servlets singletons, aren't they?

  • Help with timebased scoring algorithm

    Im trying to devise an appropriate scoring system for my game. The game in essense has a finite number of tasks to complete (say 20) and the quicker you complete these task, the more points you get. I had devised a basic way of doing this using bands of time multiplied by a score for that band multiplied by the number of tasks solved within that time band i.e. (Time Band) = (Points) 1-5 sec = 15, 5-10 secs = 10, 10-20 secs = 5, 20-30 secs = 3, 40 secs onwards = 1, So for example if I did 3 tasks in the 1-5sec band i'd get 15*3=45points, if i found 10 in the 20-30sec band i'd get 3*10=30 points. Im sure there is a more mathematical way of doing this using powers of some kind but I just can't think how and hoping someone has already done something smilar.. Many thanks in advance

    I was trying to install the newest version of libpcap (as the version in the repositories doesn't seem current) and ran into the following problem. I copied the tcpdump-workers.asc text from the tcpdump website (which hosts libpcap as well) and imported the key to my keyring using gpg --import tcpdump-workers.asc. That when all well and fine but when I tried to verify the libpcap-1.4.0.tar.gz file against the key with gpg --verify, I ended up getting the message that unexpected data. was found. I am wondering if anyone else has run into this problem as the ancient technique of googling my problem has done little to answer my question.

    What are the rules? OTOH the simple case seems to imply the new type is the last thing on a line. Like here Uchar is the new type. typedef unsigned char Uchar; But a function pointer is completely different. Here the new type is pFunc: typedef int (*pFunc) (int); I can't think of any other examples offhand but I have come across some very confusing usages. So are there rules or are people just suppose to know from experience that this is how it is done because they have seen it done this way before? ALSO: What is the scope of a typedef.   • Please help me to deploy merge modules

    I need to deploy some Crystal Reports XI .dlls (craxdrt.dll, crviewer.dll) to client computers. Craxdrt.dll has many dependencies. I found out that the easiest way to go about this is to use the supplied merge modules. Having always relied on ClikOnce deployment I am at a total loss how to do this. If it matters: the .exe is written in VB6, but I have visual studio 2010 to make setup projects. Thanks!
