  • How to access the stage from an AS3 class in Adobe Flash

    - by Graphithy
    The problem I've encountered is that I am using a keyboardEventListener to make a movieclip run around. As I'm a college student, I'm creating this for an assignment but we are forced to use as3 classes. When I run the code in the maintimeline, there is no problem. But when I try to access it from another class (with an 'Export for ActionScript' on the movieclip in question) I get an error he can't address the stage. this.stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, dostuff);

  • OOP C# Question: Making a Fruit a Pear

    - by Adam Kane
    Given that I have an instance of Fruit with some properties set, and I want to get those properties into a new Pear instance (because this particular Fruit happens to have the qualities of a pear), what's the best way to achieve this effect? For example, what we can't do is simple cast a Fruit to a Pear, because not all Fruits are Pears: public static class PearGenerator { public static Pear CreatePear () { // Make a new generic fruit. Fruit genericFruit = new Fruit(); // Upcast it to a pear. (Throws exception: Can't cast a Fruit to a Pear.) Pear pear = (Pear)genericFruit; // Return freshly grown pear. return ( pear ); } } public class Fruit { // some code } public class Pear : Fruit { public void PutInPie () { // some code } } Thanks! Update: I don't control the "new Fruit()" code. My starting point is that I've got a Fruit to work with. I need to get that Fruit into a new Pear somehow. Maybe copy all the properties one by one?

  • Passing parameter to base class constructor or using instance variable?

    - by deamon
    All classes derived from a certain base class have to define an attribute called "path". In the sense of duck typing I could rely upon definition in the subclasses: class Base: pass # no "path" variable here def Sub(Base): def __init__(self): self.path = "something/" Another possiblity would be to use the base class constructor: class Base: def __init__(self, path): self.path = path def Sub(Base): def __init__(self): super().__init__("something/") What would you prefer and why? Is there a better way?

  • Problem with generic list and extension method(C#3.0)

    - by Newbie
    I have an issue. I am making an extension class for a Collection and it is generic.. like public static class ListExtensions { public static ICollection<T> Search<T>(this ICollection<T> collection, string stringToSearch) { ICollection<T> t1=null; foreach (T t in collection) { Type k = t.GetType(); PropertyInfo pi = k.GetProperty("Name"); if (pi.GetValue(t,null).Equals(stringToSearch)) { t1.Add(t); } } return t1; } } But I cannot add items to t1 as it is declared null. Error: object reference not set to an instance of the object. I am calling the method like List<TestClass> listTC = new List<TestClass>(); listTC.Add(new TestClass { Name = "Ishu", Age = 21 }); listTC.Add(new TestClass { Name = "Vivek", Age = 40 }); listTC.Add(new TestClass { Name = "some one else", Age = 12 }); listTC.Search("Ishu"); And the test class is public class TestClass { public string Name { get; set; } public int Age { get; set; } } Using : (C#3.0) & Framework - 3.5 Thanks

  • loop is cut one element of the array

    - by Walaa
    The problem is : Write a program that reads a number n and then declares an array of n elements. The program then fills the array with the first n numbers, where each number is two to the power of the previous. Finally, display array’s contents. My code : import java.util.*; public class Q1 { static Scanner scan = new Scanner (System.in); public static void main(String args [] ) { int num; int i = 0; System.out.println("Enter a number :"); num = scan.nextInt(); double [] a=new double[num]; a[0]= num ; for ( ;i<=a.length-1 ; i++) { a[i+1] = Math.pow(2,a[i]); System.out.println((int)(a[i]) ); } } } The error is : ----jGRASP exec: java Q1 Enter a number : 4 4 16 65536 Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 4 at Q1.main(Q1.java:16) ----jGRASP wedge2: exit code for process is 1. why it says that? And the number by user printed twice!

  • Concurrency problem with arrays (Java)

    - by Johannes
    For an algorithm I'm working on I tried to develop a blacklisting mechanism that can blacklist arrays in a specific way: If "1, 2, 3" is blacklisted "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" is also considered blacklisted. I'm quite happy with the solution I've come up with so far. But there seem to be some serious problems when I access a blacklist from multiple threads. The method "contains" (see code below) sometimes returns true, even if an array is not blacklisted. This problem does not occur if I only use one thread, so it most likely is a concurrency problem. I've tried adding some synchronization, but it didn't change anything. I also tried some slightly different implementations using java.util.concurrent classes. Any ideas on how to fix this? public class Blacklist { private static final int ARRAY_GROWTH = 10; private final Node root = new Node(); private static class Node{ private volatile Node[] childNodes = new Node[ARRAY_GROWTH]; private volatile boolean blacklisted = false; public void blacklist(){ this.blacklisted = true; this.childNodes = null; } } public void add(final int[] array){ synchronized (root) { Node currentNode = this.root; for(final int edge : array){ if(currentNode.blacklisted) return; else if(currentNode.childNodes.length <= edge) { currentNode.childNodes = Arrays.copyOf(currentNode.childNodes, edge + ARRAY_GROWTH); } if(currentNode.childNodes[edge] == null) { currentNode.childNodes[edge] = new Node(); } currentNode = currentNode.childNodes[edge]; } currentNode.blacklist(); } } public boolean contains(final int[] array){ synchronized (root) { Node currentNode = this.root; for(final int edge : array){ if(currentNode.blacklisted) return true; else if(currentNode.childNodes.length <= edge || currentNode.childNodes[edge] == null) return false; currentNode = currentNode.childNodes[edge]; } return currentNode.blacklisted; } } }

  • Weird compile-time behavior when trying to use primitive type in generics

    - by polygenelubricants
    import java.lang.reflect.Array; public class PrimitiveArrayGeneric { static <T> T[] genericArrayNewInstance(Class<T> componentType) { return (T[]) Array.newInstance(componentType, 0); } public static void main(String args[]) { int[] intArray; Integer[] integerArray; intArray = (int[]) Array.newInstance(int.class, 0); // Okay! integerArray = genericArrayNewInstance(Integer.class); // Okay! intArray = genericArrayNewInstance(int.class); // Compile time error: // cannot convert from Integer[] to int[] integerArray = genericArrayNewInstance(int.class); // Run time error: // ClassCastException: [I cannot be cast to [Ljava.lang.Object; } } I'm trying to fully understand how generics works in Java. Things get a bit weird for me in the 3rd assignment in the above snippet: the compiler is complaining that Integer[] cannot be converted to int[]. The statement is 100% true, of course, but I'm wondering WHY the compiler is making this complaint. If you comment that line, and follow the compiler's "suggestion" as in the 4th assignment, the compiler is actually satisfied!!! NOW the code compiles just fine! Which is crazy, of course, since like the run time behavior suggests, int[] cannot be converted to Object[] (which is what T[] is type-erased into at run time). So my question is: why is the compiler "suggesting" that I assign to Integer[] instead for the 3rd assignment? How does the compiler reason to arrive to that (erroneous!) conclusion?

  • I can not get the text from a selected item in a listview...pleeeeasss help.

    - by Miguel
    I always get an ClassCastException error... i do not what else to do... - I'm using a data biding concept to populated the listview from a sqlite3 database. - I just want to get the selected item text after a long press click. This is the code of the activity: public class ItemConsultaGastos extends ListActivity { private DataHelper dh ; TextView seleccion; private static String[] FROM = {DataHelper.MES, DataHelper.ANO}; private static int[] TO = {R.id.columnaMes, R.id.columnaAno }; public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.muestrafechas); this.dh = new DataHelper(this); Cursor cursor = dh.selectAllMeses(); startManagingCursor(cursor); this.mostrarFechas(cursor); ListView lv = getListView(); lv.setOnItemLongClickListener(new OnItemLongClickListener(){ @Override public boolean onItemLongClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1,int row, long arg3) { //here is where i got the classCastException. String[] tmp = (String[]) arg0.getItemAtPosition(row); //tmp[0] ist the Text of the first TextView displayed by the clicked ListItem Log.w("Gastos: ", "El texto: " + tmp[0].toString()); return true; } }); } private void mostrarFechas(Cursor cursor) { SimpleCursorAdapter adapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this,R.layout.muestrafechasitem,cursor, FROM, TO); setListAdapter(adapter); } } ///// This is the xml where a define the rows to show on the listview <TextView android:id="@+id/espacio" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text=" " /> <TextView android:id="@+id/columnaAno" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="20sp" android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/espacio"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/separador1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text=" -- " android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/columnaAno" android:textSize="20sp" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/columnaMes" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/separador1" android:textSize="20sp"/>

  • Foreign Keys Duplicated in DataGridView

    - by John Doe
    I created a Windows Forms Application to which I added a DataGridView and LINQ to SQL Classes from one of my databases. I can successfully bind one of my database's tables to my DataGridView: var dataSource = from c in _db.NetworkedEquipments select c; dataGridView1.DataSource = dataSource; However, the foreign keys get duplicated, that is, the columns appear twice. How can I prevent this?

  • How to refresh the textbox text when tabs are Changed in WPF

    - by StonedJesus
    Well in my WPF application I am using Tab Control which has around 5 tabs. The view of each tab is a user control which I add via a tool box. Main Xaml File: <Grid> <TabControl Height="Auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="0" Name="tabControl1" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Width="Auto"> <TabItem Header="Device Control" Name="Connect"> <ScrollViewer Height="Auto" Name="scrollViewer1" Width="Auto"> <my:ConnectView Name="connectView1" /> </ScrollViewer> </TabItem> <TabItem Header="I2C"> <ScrollViewer Height="Auto" Name="scrollViewer2" Width="Auto"> <my1:I2CControlView Name="i2CControlView1" /> </ScrollViewer> </TabItem> <TabItem Header="Voltage"> <ScrollViewer Height="Auto" Name="scrollViewer3" Width="Auto"> <my2:VoltageView Name="voltageView1" /> </ScrollViewer> </TabItem> </TabControl> </Grid> If you notice each view ie.e Connect, I2C and Voltage is a user control which has a view, viewmodel and model class :) Each of these views have set of textboxes in their respective xaml files. Connect.xaml: <Grid> <Textbox Text="{Binding Box}", Name="hello" /> // Some more textboxes </Grid> I2c.xaml: <Grid> <Textbox Text="{Binding I2CBox}", Name="helI2c" /> // Some more textboxes </Grid> Voltage.xaml: <Grid> <Textbox Text="{Binding VoltBox}", Name="heVoltllo" /> // Some more textboxes </Grid>** By default I have set the text of these textboxes to some value. Lets say "12" "13" "14" respectively in my view model classes. My main requirement is to set the text of these textboxes present in each user control to get refreshed when I change the tab. Description: Lets say Connect View is displayed: Value of Textbox is 12 and I edit it and change it to 16. Now I click on I2C tab and then I go back to Connect tab, I want the textbox value to get refreshed back to the initial value i.e. 12. To be precise, is their a method called visibilitychanged() which I can write in all my user control classes, where I can set the value of these Ui components whenever tabs are changed? Please help :)

  • Hibernate Transient Extends problem

    - by mrvreddy
    @MappedSuperclass public abstract class BaseAbstract implements Serializable{ private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; protected String test = //some random value; public String getTest() { return test; } public void setTest(String test){ this.test = test; } } @Entity public class Artist extends BaseAbstract { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; private Integer id; @override @Transient public String getTest() { return test; } ..... } My question is... when i am trying to do any operation on the artist, along with id and name, test is also getting saved which should not be the case... if i add the same transient on the baseabstract class getTest() method, i see test column NOT getting created(ideally what it should happen) but if i try to override the method with adding annotaion in the sub class it creates the test column... I dont know why this is happening since when hibernate is creating the artist object and checks for annotations, it should see the transient annotation present on the getTest() of artist method...and should not create a column in the database... Let me know if you need any clarification.... Any response on this is greatly appreciated.... Thank you

  • IoC.Resolve vs Constructor Injection

    - by Omu
    I heard a lot of people saying that it is a bad practice to use IoC.Resolve(), but I never heard a good reason why (if it's all about testing than you can just mock the container, and you're done). now the advantages of using Resolve instead of Constructor Injection is that you don't need to create classes that have 5 parameters in the constructor, and whenever you are going to create a instance of that class you're not gonna need to provide it with anything

  • [java] Returning the element number of the longest string in an array

    - by JohnRoberts
    Hoookay, so. I'm trying to get the longestS method to take the user-inputted array of strings, then return the element number of the longest string in that array. I got it to the point where I was able to return the number of chars in the longest string, but I don't believe that will work for what I need. My problem is that I keep getting incompatible type errors when trying to figure this out. I don't understand the whole data type thing with strings yet. It's confusing me how I go about return a number of the array yet the array is of strings. The main method is fine, I got stuck on the ???? part. { public static void main(String [] args) { Scanner inp = new Scanner( System.in ); String [] responseArr= new String[4]; for (int i=0; i<4; i++) { System.out.println("Enter string "+(i+1)); responseArr[i] = inp.nextLine(); } int highest=longestS(responseArr); } public static int longestS(String[] values) { int largest=0 for( int i = 1; i < values.length; i++ ) { if ( ????? ) } return largest; } }

  • OOP/MVC advice on where to place a global helper function

    - by franko75
    Hi, I have a couple of controllers on my site which are handling form data. The forms use AJAX and I have quite a few methods across different controllers which are having to do some specific processing to return errors in a JSON encoded format - see code below. Obviously this isn't DRY and I need to move this code into a single helper function which I can use globally, but I'm wondering where this should actually go! Should I create a static helper class which contains this function (e.g Validation::build_ajax_errors()), or as this code is producing a format which is application specific and tied into the jQuery validation plugin I'm using, should it be a static method stored in, for example, my main Website controller which the form handling controllers extend from? //if ajax request, output errors if (request::is_ajax()) { //need to build errors into array form for javascript validation - move this into a helper method accessible globally $errors = $post->errors('form_data/form_error_messages'); $i = 0; $new_errors = array(); foreach ($errors as $key => $value) { $new_errors[$i][0] = '#' . $key; $new_errors[$i][1] = $value; $new_errors[$i][2] = "error"; $i++; } echo '{"jsonValidateReturn":' . json_encode($new_errors) . '}'; return; }

  • Swing modal dialog refuses to close - sometimes!

    - by Zarkonnen
    // This is supposed to show a modal dialog and then hide it again. In practice, // this works about 75% of the time, and the other 25% of the time, the dialog // stays visible. // This is on Ubuntu 10.10, running: // OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9) (6b20-1.9-0ubuntu1) // This always prints // setVisible(true) about to happen // setVisible(false) about to happen // setVisible(false) has just happened // even when the dialog stays visible. package modalproblemdemo; import java.awt.Frame; import javax.swing.JDialog; import javax.swing.SwingUtilities; public class Main { public static void main(String[] args) { final Dialogs d = new Dialogs(); new Thread() { @Override public void run() { d.show(); d.hide(); } }.start(); } static class Dialogs { final JDialog dialog; public Dialogs() { dialog = new JDialog((Frame) null, "Hello World", /*modal*/ true); dialog.setSize(400, 200); } public void show() { SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { dialog.setLocationRelativeTo(null); System.out.println("setVisible(true) about to happen"); dialog.setVisible(true); }}); } public void hide() { SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { System.out.println("setVisible(false) about to happen"); dialog.setVisible(false); System.out.println("setVisible(false) has just happened"); }}); } } }

  • How does one force construction of a global object in a statically linked library? [MSVC9]

    - by Peter C O Johansson
    I have a global list of function pointers. This list should be populated at startup. Order is not important and there are no dependencies that would complicate static initialization. To facilitate this, I've written a class that adds a single entry to this list in its constructor, and scatter global instances of this class via a macro where necessary. One of the primary goals of this approach is to remove the need for explicitly referencing every instance of this class externally, instead allowing each file that needs to register something in the list to do it independently. Nice and clean. However, when placing these objects in a static library, the linker discards (or rather never links in) these units because no code in them is explicitly referenced. Explicitly referencing symbols in the compilation units would be counterproductive, directly contradicting one of the main goals of the approach. For the same reason, /INCLUDE is not an acceptable option, and /OPT:NOREF is not actually related to this problem. Metrowerks has a __declspec directive for it, GCC has -force_load, but I cannot find any equivalent for MSVC.

  • Sharepoint fails to load a C++ dll on windows 2008

    - by Nathan
    I have a sharepoint DLL that does some licensing things and as part of the code it uses an external C++ DLL to get the serial number of the hardisk. When i run this application on windows server 2003 it works fine, but on 2008 the whole site (loaded on load) crashes and resets continually. This is not 2008 R2 and is the same in 64 or 32 bits. If i put a debugger.break before the dll execution then I see the code get to the point of the break then never come back into the dll again. I do get some debug assertion warnings from within the function, again only in 2008, but im not sure this is related. I created a console app that runs the c# dll, which in turn loads the c++ dll, and this works perfectly on 2008 (although does show the assertion errors, but I have suppressed these now). The assertion errors are not in my code but within ICtypes.c and not something I can debug. If i put a breakpoint in the DLL it is never hit and the compiler says : "step in: Stepping over non user code" if i try to debug into the DLL using VS. I have tried wrapping the code used to call the DLL in: SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate() but this also does not help. I have the sourcecode for this DLL so that is not a problem. If i delete the DLL from the directory I get an error about a missing DLL, if i replace it back to no error or warning just a complete failure. If i replace this code with a hardcoded string the whole application works fine. Any advice would be much appreciated, I can't understand why it works as a console app yet not when run by sharepoint, this is with the same user account, on the same machine... This is the code used to call the DLL: [DllImport("idDll.dll", EntryPoint = "GetMachineId", SetLastError = true)] extern static string GetComponentId([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPStr)]String s); public static string GetComponentId() { Debugger.Break(); if (_machine == string.Empty) { string temp = ""; id= ComponentId.GetComponentId(temp); } return id; }

  • How to allow all except part 1 and part 2 ?

    - by Stackfan
    This allows me to get easyly dynamic input variables instead of putting a static prefix like /en/etcetcetc, but the problem is all controllers are blocked. Everything goes to index/index. Question: How can i tell this rule allow evertying as it is now, but do not track if it contains http://site.com/donotcatch/me and http://site.com/iamnotbelongstodynamic1/blabla protected function _initRoutes() { ... $dynamic1 = new Zend_Controller_Router_Route( '/:variable0/:variable1', array( 'controller' => 'index', 'action' => 'index'), array( 'variable0' => '^[a-zA-Z0-9_]*$', 'variable1' => '^[a-zA-Z0-9_]*$', ) ); Follow up: Normally, i always belive yes we can, so, we can do that like this where dynamic1 does not the inter-fare with my other static controllers: // http://site/yeswecan/blabla // variable0 = yeswecan // variable1 = blabla $dynamic1 = new Zend_Controller_Router_Route( '/:variable0/:variable1', array( 'controller' => 'index', 'action' => 'index'), array( 'variable0' => '^[a-zA-Z]*$', 'variable1' => '^[a-z0-9_]*$', ) ); // http://site/ajax/whatever... // solves it $dynamic2 = new Zend_Controller_Router_Route( '/ajax/:variable0', array( 'controller' => 'ajax', 'action' => '' ), array( 'variable0' => '^[a-zA-Z0-9_]*$', ) ); // http://site/order/whatever... // solves it $dynamic3 = new Zend_Controller_Router_Route( '/order/:variable0', array( 'controller' => 'order', 'action' => ''), array( 'variable0' => '^[a-zA-Z0-9_]*$', ) ); Note: Still the controllers are getting failed for example http://site/ajax/whatever always goes to /ajax/index where i wanted to send it as /ajax/user-inserted-value How can i fix the $dynamic2 and $dynamic3 by keeping $dynamic1 ??

  • Good ways to map a 2D side shooter (somewhat like liero, or soldat)

    - by Blaze
    I'm wondering what way would be best to render a 2D map for a shooter (these will be static maps) similar to Soldat. Multiple options I've considered are a tile based map (stored in txt files), or just creating different classes for the different terrains I plan to use and creating a data structure to read/store them in a file. (I want to also be able to include things like jumping/running on walls, sliding down walls/slopes ect) I feel like there must be a better way than either of these, but haven't been able to find definitive information :/ Thanks :)

  • Unit test helper methods?

    - by Aly
    Hi, I have classes which prviously had massive methods so i subdivided the work of this method into 'helper' methods. These helper methods are declared private to enforce encapsulation - however I want to unit test the big public methods, is it good to unit test the helper methods too as if one of them fail the public method that calls it will also fail - but this way we can identify why it failed. Also in order to test these using a mock object I would need to change their visibility from private to protected, is this desirable?

    Hi. First I have to say: Happy Christmas to All! I'm starting learning classes in PHP. I coded that: class User { function getFbId($authtoken) { } function getFbFirstName ($authtoken) { } } What I want to do is something like that: $user=new User($authtoken); And pass the $authtoken to the class. It's possible to define that when starting the class. It's possible to retrive that value inside a function of that class?

  • Adding the text area input to a list with jquery

    - by amylynn83
    I am making a shopping list app. When an item is added to the text input, it should be converted into a list item with a class of "tile" and added to the beginning of the list with a class of ".shopping_item_list". Here is my HTML: <section> <h1 class="outline">Shopping List Items</h1> <ul class="shopping_item_list"> <li class="tile">Flowers<span class="delete">Delete</span></li> </ul> </section> My jQuery: $("input[name='shopping_item']").change(function() { var item = $(this).val(); $("<li class='tile'>+ item +</li>").prependTo(".shopping_item_list"); $(".tile").removeClass("middle"); $(".shopping_item_list li:nth-child(3n+2)").addClass("middle"); }); This isn't working, and I can't figure out why. I'm new to jQuery. Also, I need to add the "delete" span to the list item and am not sure how. Thanks for any help you can offer! Edited to add: Thanks to the feedback here, I was able to make it work with: $("input[name='shopping_item']").change(function() { var item = $(this).val(); $("<li class='tile'>" + item + "<span class='delete'>Delete</span>" + " </li>").prependTo(".shopping_item_list"); $(".tile").removeClass("middle"); $(".shopping_item_list li:nth-child(3n+2)").addClass("middle"); }); However, in my jquery, I have functions for the classes "tile" and "delete" that are not working for newly added items. // hide delete button $(".delete").hide(); // delete square $(".tile").hover(function() { $(this).find(".delete").toggle(); }); $(".tile").on("click", ".delete", function() { $(this).closest("li.tile").remove(); $(".tile").removeClass("middle"); $(".shopping_item_list li:nth-child(3n+2)").addClass("middle"); }); // cross off list $(".tile").click(function() { $(this).toggleClass("deleteAction"); }); The new items, which have these classes applied aren't using these functions at all. Do I need to add the functions below the add item? Does the order in which they appear in my js file matter? Do I need to add some kind of function?
