• Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13

  I keep a windows partition on my laptop for the occaisional bit of Photoshop work. A while ago I noticed that Windows had disappeared from my grub boot menu and when I try to mount the windows partion, my system hangs for a bit and then I get this: Unable to mount 105 GB Filesystem Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error Failed to calculate free MFT records: Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details. It seems that chkdsk is a windows command but since I can't boot into windows (since its the windows partition that is the problem) I'm not sure what to do. • new monitor won't work on win3.1

  My old system monitor for my Windows 3.1 machine failed and the new flat screen has a sync error. The new monitors do not support the refresh/screen size it is set to. It boots up into Windows and the monitor is blank with a sync error. Without Windows 3.1 working I don't know how to change the refresh/size to get it to work. I haven't used Win3.1 in so long that I can't remember how to fix this. So, how do I reset the refresh rate and screen resolution it is set to, without being able to actually see anything?

• Installing FFMPEG-PHP on Qnap Nas (TS-410), PHPIZE error

  I have been trying to install ffmpeg-php on my qnap nas (ts-410) without success. ? Basically I have installed the QPKG Optware, and using the plugin installed php-dev, autoconf, m4, php-gd, and perl. After that I downloaded ffmpeg-0.6.0.tbz2 (from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffmpeg-php/files/ffmpeg-php/0.6.0/ffmpeg-php-0.6.0.tbz2/download) to the Public folder, and extracted the file (tar -xjf ffmpeg-0.6.0.tbz2) Then go to the folder: cd ffmpeg-0.6.0 Finally I run: phpize which is where the process fails I get the following error: configure.in:3: warning: prefer named diversions Can anyone advice how to successfully install ffmpeg-php on my nas? Ps. I am new to linux so easy step guide would be appreciated, or even better if a QPKG / IPKG becomes available ? !!!! Thanks Dean

• Database Server Hardware components (order of importance), CPU speed VS CPU cache vs RAM vs DISK

  I am new to database world and would like to know what are crucial hardware specs when it comes to database performance. I have searched the internet and found this so far (In order of decreasing importance): 1) Hard Disk: Get an SSD basically (much more IOPS than spinners) 2) Memory: Get as much as you can afford 3) CPU: For the same $ spent, prefer larger cache size over speed. Are these findings sensible? EDIT: I would like to focus on CPU speed VS CPU cache size. EDIT2: The database is used to store some combination of ints and int arrays with few text fields. There are a lot of Select queries looking for existing entries. If entry is not found, then insert it. I would say most of processing would be trying to find a match across a table with 200 columns and 20k rows. The insert statements are very few. EDIT3: Also, we have a lot of views (basically select queries).

• All my folders and files on my flash drive have been renamed automatically and I can no longer open them... I need those files

  I opened up my flash drive this morning and all of my folders and files are normal, except for one folder and all its included files, which is the most important folder. The subfolders and files are renamed with bizarre characters and when I click to open them, a pop-up appears saying it's not accessible and the filename or directory name is incorrect. I don't want to reformat the flash drive because I'd lose all those files. Is there a way for me to restore it or something? I would attach a screen shot, but apparently new users do not have that privilege. If you have a vague idea of what I'm talking about, let me know and I can email you screenshots so you can have a better understanding. Any help is greatly appreciated!

• Install Adobe AIR on Ubuntu/Linux

  Since quite some time Adobe Technologies released the Linux version of Adobe AIR to bring web applications and widgets to your desktop. Installing new applications on a Linux system is not always as easy as switching the computer on. The following instructions might be helpful to install Adobe AIR on any Linux system. First of all, get the latest installer of Adobe AIR from http://get.adobe.com/air/ - as of writing this article the file name is AdobeAIRInstaller.bin. Save the download in your preferred folder. Now, there are two ways to run the installer - visual style or console style. Visual Installation Launch your favorite or standard file manager like thunar or nautilus and browse to the folder where the AdobeAIRInstaller.bin has been saved. Right click on the file and choose 'Properties' in the context menu Set 'Execute' permissions and confirm modifications with OK Rename file into AdobeAIRInstaller Double click and follow the instructions Using the console Open a terminal like xterm Change into the directory where you stored the download Run this command:[code]chmod +x AdobeAIRInstaller.bin[/code] Now run this command:[code]sudo ./AdobeAIRInstaller.bin[/code] The normal installer will open, install it. • Fonts in Google Chrome messed up

  I recently installed new fonts on my computer that my friend sent me so I can use them in Adobe Photoshop. When I downloaded the ".zip" folder containing the fonts I unzipped the folder, pressed Ctrl+A to highlight all of the font files and then I right clicked and clicked "Install". That is how I installed the fonts. Now the fonts in Google Chrome are messed up. When I go on websites such as Stackoverflow, Facebook, etc. the fonts are different and look really odd. Random parts of text are bolded or italized, etc. I'm using the latest version of Google Chrome and Windows 8 Pro. I took 3 screenshots to show you what I mean.

• Error burning DVD using Devede on Ubuntu 9.04

  I'm trying to burn a DVD in DeVeDe under ubuntu -- on my computer it's already in DVD format (a VIDEO_TS folder) but when I try and drag it into DeVeDe it says "Some files weren't video files. None added." From looking at it, all the files look like they belong there, just from doing this a few times already and seeing all the files contained in a DVD. The file extensions in the folder are: VOB BUP IFO and the files are all named like VTS_02_1.VOB. I have tried excluding the IFO files when dragging them into DeVeDe but get the same error. Is the problem in the types of files in the DVD data or is the DVD corrupt?

• optimizing file share performance on Win2k8?

  We have a case where we're accessing a RAID array (drive E:) on a Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86 box. (Recently installed, nothing other than SQL Server 2005 on the server.) In one scenario, when directly accessing it (E:\folder\file.xxx) we get 45MBps throughput to a video file. If we access the same file on the same array, but through UNC path (\server\folder\file.xxx) we get about 23MBps throughput with the exact same test. Obviously the second test is going through more layers of the stack, but that's a major performance hit. What tuning should we be looking at for making the UNC path be closer in performance to the direct access case? Thanks, Kirk (corrected: it is CIFS not SMB, but generalized title to 'file share'.) (additional info: this happens during the read from a single file, not an issue across multiple connections. the file is on the local machine, but exposed via file share. so client and file server are both same Windows 2008 server.)

  I pay monthly for a website hosting service that provides me with PHP and FTP support. I can upload my files and create directories and such. Now, I am wondering... If I upload a folder full of images.. or music.. basically personal stuff to my website and name it 'junk1234' can other people find it? Or even search engines? If so, How would I restrict any but those who know the folder name from seeing files in it? Possibly httaccess files? I also have cpanel installed.

• conky stopped displaying after daul monitors setup -- works when I detect monitors

  I just recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a clean install. I previously was using 11.10. I am also using a new laptop with a Dell docking-station and two external monitors. When I try to use the .conkyrc file that I used previously, my conky display simply doesn't show up anywhere. However, after I went to System Settings Displays and made some slight change that caused the monitors to refresh, then conky appeared as it should. • Cannot access Windows 7 share from Windows XP

  I have a new Windows 7 machine named PAP44 in the PAP workgroup. The networking is set to "Work" mode for the wired LAN. I have a couple of users and I've shared a folder and set it so both users can read/write. Confusingly for me, rather than sharing just that folder (as I'm used to with older versions of Windows) it appears to be sharing a path (\\pap44\users\...\myFolder) From another machine on the LAN, running XP, when I go to \\PAP44\Users I'm asked for a username and password, but neither of the usernames+passwords work. It just jumps back to the username and password dialogue, except that the username I entered gets prefixed with PAP44\ My end goal is to get my Debian/Ubuntu machines to be able to access this share, but first of all I thought I'd try to get it working in Windows, after all, that's supposed to be easy! Is there another step? (PS. I am not a "hit and run" case!)

  I'm trying to allow my "deploy" user to have access to files created by www-data: I added "deploy" to the www-data group. I set umask to 002.   How it works? Using the front-end of the service, a user can specify a size in MB for the input data set to sort. Algorithm CreateAndSplit The CreateAndSplit task generates the input data and stores them as 10 blobs in the utility storage. The URLs to these blobs are packaged as Separate work items and written to the queue. · Separate The Separate task reads the blobs with the random numbers created in the CreateAndSplit task and places the random numbers into buckets. The interval of the numbers that go into one bucket is chosen so that the expected amount of numbers (assuming a uniform distribution of the numbers in the original data set) is around 100 kB. Each bucket is represented as a blob container in utility storage. Whenever there are 10 blobs in one bucket (i.e., the placement in this bucket is complete because we had 10 original splits), the separate task will generate a new Sort task and write the task into the queue. · Sort The Sort task merges all blobs in a single bucket and sorts them using a standard sort algorithm. The result is stored as a blob in utility storage. · Concat The concat task merges the results of all Sort tasks into a single blob. This blob can be downloaded as a text file using this Web page.   I have a file explorer shell extension called "Copy File Path" or "Copy Folder Path", depending on which pane I am in in file explorer, which copies the full path of a file or a folder to the clipboard. Because it's very handy for me, I use it many times during the day. To make it more productive, I would like to assign a function key to it instead of using the right mouse click context menu, looking for it in the menu (big menu because of many extensions) and selecting it. The way I want to use it is select the file with the mouse and hit the function key. Is there a utility or tool, tray taskmaybe, which can add this functionality to Windows?

BUT, on win2008 R2 Enterprise, I run compmgmt.msc and drill to a private queue folder ... when I click "Queue messages" or "Journal messages", I see "There are no items to show in this view" which AFAIK is correct BUT I get this unwanted dialog: Message Queuing x ------------------------ (X) The list of messages cannot be retrieved. Error: Access is denied. [[ OK ]] On both computers, I'm a member of local Administrators. I'm concerned as a developer because I'm very soon going to be testing WCF/MSMQ software that works on my Win7 laptop. How to I get past this denied access problem? thnx / g.

• Order files in Ubuntu server in alpha order?

  I have a PHP script that is for personal use that goes through a folder and lists all the pictures in the folder. The pictures are pages from a book, so it is important that they be in order. They are named so that in alphabetical order, they are also in the correct page order. I had it running on my Mac OS server, and it worked fine, listing them in order because Mac OS apparently keeps files alphabetically. Now, since I've switched to Ubuntu, it is listing them in a seemingly random order. Is there any way to order files in Ubuntu server so that they are in alphabetical order?

• Only 1080p youtube videos work properly

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 64bit installed/full updated and have noticed that I can only play 1080p youtube videos properly on full screen. All other resolutions, 480, 720, 1440 etc do not go into full screen properly. Please have a look at the attached images. You will notice that only the 1080p video has the video control bar right at the bottom with a respectable text size. All other videos don't have the video control bar right at the bottom on the screen, and the control bar text is too small. I've had this problem for ages, but finally decided to ask about it. 480p: Notice the bottom control bar, it's not at the bottom on the screen and the video has borders on the sides: 720p: Notice the bottom control bar, it's not at the bottom on the screen and the video has borders on the sides and the text is tiny: 1080p: This is the only one that works as expected, i.e. controls right at the bottom, and good font size and no borders on the sides: 1440p: Notice the bottom control bar, it's not at the bottom on the screen and the video has borders on the sides: How do I correct this problem so I can play all different video resolutions at full screen. • Ralink RT3060 wireless device configuration on ubuntu 12.04

  concerning How do I get a Ralink RT3060 wireless card working? I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with a 'LWPX07 Edimax EW-7711In 150M 1T1R WL PCI Card' which has a rt3060 chip. Out of the box the card is recognized as rt2800sta. I tried solution one, that didn't work. Still the card connects to the wireless network, but it seems to slow to load any pages. Then I tried solution 2, but then the network-manager doesn't see any wireless device. $ iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. ra0 Ralink STA Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0 Rx invalid nwid:0 invalid crypt:0 invalid misc:0 eth0 no wireless extensions. $ lsmod Module Size Used by rt3562sta 882296 0 $ lspci -v 05:02.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT3060 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R Subsystem: Edimax Computer Co. Device 7711 Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 23 Memory at ff9f0000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel driver in use: rt2860 Kernel modules: rt3562sta, rt2800pci Am I missing a configuration step? That is the problem with the solution describe above.

I asked before a question about this: http://serverfault.com/questions/13906/how-to-fix-subfolders-iis7-functionality But i feel that no one is facing this problem except me, so i want to know what i am doing wrong or if someone had the same problem please tell me. all my website are in subfolders from the root folder, the problem that all links are showing like this: www.example.com/example/...., www.anotherwebsite.com/anotherwebsite/.... such as this http://amrelgarhy.com/ Means the folder name is showing in the URL, i did all what i can and discussed with godaddy a lot, but they always tell that its a IIS7 problem. Did you face this problem before or know a solution for?
