  • Load page, wait, log any JavaScript errors to file?

    I would like to check a large number of HTML files with inline JavaScript for JavaScript errors. What I'm envisioning doing is this: Script a browser to load a given page, wait a few seconds, and finally check the browser logs. I'm unsure though both on how to script a browser to load a given page and on how to access the JavaScript error log. I think the type of errors I'm worried about should show up in any modern browser so I would just go with whatever makes it most convenient. I'd be working either under Mac OS X or Linux. Anybody already tackle a similar problem? I've thought a bit about hacking something together based on a unit testing framework -- generate a trivial (assertTrue(true)) test for each page and rely on the errors making it fail -- but I'm hoping for something more elegant. Thank you.

  • Can't type after "ruby script/server" in InstantRails

    I'm a newb to RoR. I'm using the book "Agile Web Development with Rails" to get started on Windows 7. In the command window, I run the following. >rails demo >cd demo >ruby script/server At this point, it boots the Mongrel server: => Booting Mongrel => Rails 2.3.5 application starting on http://0.0.0.0:3000 => Call with -d to detach => Ctrl-C to shutdown server The book goes on to tell me to run ruby script/generate controller Say but, I cannot Ctrl-C -- or type anything for that matter -- after booting the Mongrel server. Am I supposed to create the new controller in another instance of the InstantRails command window? Right now, the only way I can stop the server is closing the window in which I started the server! Please let me know if you need any other details. tia.

  • Measuring daemon CPU utilization over a portion of it's wall clock run time

    I am dealing with a network-related daemon: it takes data in, processes it, and spits it out. I would like to increase the performance of this daemon by profiling it and reducing it's CPU utilization. I can do this easily on Linux with gprof. However, I would also like to use something like "time" to measure it's total CPU utilization over a period of time. If possible, I would like to time it over a period that is less than its total run time: thus, I would like to start the daemon, wait awhile, generate CPU statistics, stop generating them, then stop the daemon at some later time. The "time" command would work well for me, but it seems to require that I start and stop the daemon as a child of time. Is there a way to measure CPU utilization for only a portion of the daemon's wall clock time?

    I know about CMake and bakefile already, but that is not what I am looking for. Is there a tool that will generate a makefile given a VC project? (or at least a first attempt at one) so I don't have to do all the work by hand? Alternatively, is there a tool that makes CMake files?   • SQLite doesn't have booleans or date-times...but C# does

    I've been thinking about using SQLite for my next project, but I'm concerned that it seems to lack proper datetime and bit data types. If I use DbLinq (or some other ORM) to generate C# classes, will the data types of the properties be "dumbed down"? Will date-time data be placed in properties of type string or double? Will boolean data be placed in properties of type int? If yes, what are the implications? I'm envisioning a scenario where I need to write a whole second layer of classes with more specific data types and do a bunch of transformations and casts, but maybe it's not so bad. If you have any experience with this or a similar scenario, what are your "lessons learned"?

    Hi, I'm trying to dynamically create buttons at runtime with PyQT4.7 However, this being my first python program I'm not sure how to get the functionality I want.     hi, i have a mysql table for votes. there's am id, a project_id and a vote field (which is 1 if a specific project is voted). now i want to generate a ranking from those entries. is there a way to get the number of votes for each project_id and automatically sort the entries by the number of TRUE votes of a project with a single mysql query?   • Why doesn't GCC produce a warning when assigning a signed literal to an unsigned type?

    Several questions on this website reveal pitfalls when mixing signed and unsigned types and most compilers seem to do a good job about generating warnings of this type. However, GCC doesn't seem to care when assigning a signed constant to an unsigned type!     I am trying to generate static schemas using DBIx::Class in Perl. The command shown below outputs a Schema.pm and no other files. Any idea what I'm doing wrong, or how to to debug this? Let me explain the scenario: I have two http servers. server A is accessible to end user by web browser, while server B is internal server which can only be accessed by server A. If server B generate some big jpeg image in local disk, obviously we can't just delivery those path to image to server A and eventually to end user. Then, how to let end user see those image without firstly storing those image data in server A temporarily? I run PHP on server A and perl on server B, but this should not matter. I need a general pattern for implementing this.

    Hey all- I'm using QBFC to generate invoices in a Quickbooks integrating app. I'm getting an exception thrown for lineItem.Amount.SetValue(val as Double) when I try to enter a programmatically generated double. The following does not work: lineItem = invoice.ORInvoiceLineAddList.Append.InvoiceLineAdd Dim amount as Double amount = summary.dailySold * summary.dailyRate loggingTxtBox.AppendText("Amount is " & amount & vbNewLine) lineItem.Amount.SetValue(amount) The exception I receive is System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040305): Invalid Amount format. at Interop.QBFC8.IQBAmountType.SetValue(Double val) The following works: lineItem.Amount.SetValue(20.3) Any suggestions?   • How to allow users to customize a DAL

    Hi, I'm working in ASP.NET in an application where often users want to add fields or change field names. I'd like to be able to have an xml schema in place that is parsed and a dynamic object model created from it that can be accessed throughout the application. My initial reaction is that this is not realistic. I think there is flexibility about the dynamic nature of it. I think the people I'm trying to build this for wouldn't mind recompiling. Even if the app recompiled, I don't know how to abstract away enough in my code access the data to allow for users changing property names, etc. How can you write LINQ when the properties might change? In short, there's two questions here: 1) is there a way to dynamically generate an object model of the database and 2) is there a way to abstract away enough so that code accessing the database doesn't break when properties change?

  • Artificially create a connection timeout error

    I've had a bug in our software that occurs when I receive a connection timeout. These errors are very rare (usually when my connection gets dropped by our internal network). How can I generate this kind of effect artificially so I can test our software? If it matters the app is written in C++/MFC using CAsyncSocket classes. Edit: I've tried using a non-existant host, and I get the socket error: WSAEINVAL (10022) Invalid argument My next attempt was to use Alexander's suggestion of connecting to a different port, e.g. 81 (on my own server though). That worked great. Exactly the same as a dropped connection (60 second wait, then error). Thank you!

  • Track/Display Array Index As Part Of Cout (C++)

    Hi, I have a command line C++ program that lets you enter basic information about a person (ID number, name, age, etc.) and I want to output to a console in the following manner: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Index ID # First Name Last Name Age ------------------------------------------------------------------- 0 1234 John Smith 25 The person objects are stored in an array of Persons and I've overload the ostream (<<) operator to print out all of the fields like you see. The dashed lines and header come from a displayHdg() function. Anyhow, I have not been able to figure out how to get the proper index value for the array. Ideally, I'd like to generate the indices for each line, but all my attempts have failed. The array is looped through and each object printed in the main() function, and the ostream is overloaded in a person class, so I tried to use global variables as well as static variables, and all of those produce incorrect numbering (i.e. show 0, 1 the first time (for 2 objects), then change to 1, 2 on the next display). Any ideas?

  • Scaffold default files are the best practice?

    Hey, i have some experience with MVC. but I'm new to rails. I'm using the scaffold command to generate some default files. The model looks clean and nice, but the controller and the views aren't really dry. The contents of new.html.erb and edit.html.erb are almost the same and the methods new/edit and create/update are doing almost the same thing. In other frameworks i've used only one view for updating and creating new entries and also the same method in my controller by setting the id as an optional parameter. Do they use this structure to keep things RESTful (i have not much of a clue about rest :()? Is it the best practice to use this default stuff for crud?

  • Join a single row in one table to n random rows in another

    Is it possible to make a join in SQL server that joins each row from table A to n random rows in another? For example, say I have a Customer table, a Product table and an Order table. I want to join each customer to 5 random products and insert these rows into the order table. (And each customer should be joined to 5 random rows of his own, I don't want all customers joining to the same 5 rows). Is this possible? I'm using SQL Server 2005 and it's fine if the solution is specific to that. This is a weird requirement but I'm basically making a small data generator to generate some random data.

  • Program seems to get stuck ?

    I have a Java program, I did some change and the strange thing is no matter what I do now, it will output the same result before my change, I looked into my system (Windows Vista), and clicked on "Generate a system health report", the result says : Symptom : A service is reported as having an unexpected error code Cause : One or more services has failed. The service did not stop gracefully, suggesting the service may have crashed or one of its components stopped in an unsupported way. Details : Service exited with code not equal to 0 or 1077 Resolution : Restart the service It doesn't say which service, and I defragmented my drives a few times, it still gave me the same report. I also checked my memory, it says no problem with ram. Everything else is ok, I re-started the windows a few times, got more free space on my C: drive, yet the Java program is still not responding to my new changes, unless I intentionally make a mistake, it gives me compile error, but if it can compile successfully, it still gives me the results before the change. What can I do to fix this ? Frank
