    Hi all, I am developing an iPhone application which I need to distribute to an organization of about approximately 50 people, no. of users can increase or decrease in future. I checked my iPhone developer account, there I got that I can distribute my application via Adhoc Distribution up to 100 iPhone or iPod touch users. So I think it should be best way to distribute my application to that XYZ organization. On further searching I found that there is also an - iPhone Developer Enterprise Program, which is available to companies with 500 or more employees and a Dun & Bradstreet number. So I want to know - which will be the best way for me according to my requirements ? Also I want to know that say if I choose Adhoc distribution then is there any way for automatic up-gradation in it ie. to install new version of my application on user's iPhone or iPod without deleting the old version.     I need to create a Java-based platformer game for a high school project (not computer science related), and I want to spend as little time on technical stuff as possible. I'm already experienced in Java, and I already have most of the gameplay, graphics, etc. All I need to do is code it. I've looked and I'm considering one of two options that do not involving coding a game from scratch: Copy an existing Java platformer (best option, but I can't find an open source Java platformer) Use a Java game engine to avoid coding from scratch. I've looked at JGame but I'm not sure if it's the best bet for a platformer.

  • How do you modify a modal popup from ASP codebehind instead of letting it close?

    I'm using SimpleModal to create a popup on an ASP.net application. The OK button calls a server-side function - and based on the resulta of that function I'd like to modify the popup (make some things visible, etc.) instead of letting it close. If that's too difficult, I'd like to open the popup again without the user having to re-click on anything. I'm just not sure what the best way to do this is. Currently the OK button in the popup looks like this: <asp:ImageButton ID="submitInfoBtn" OnClick="btnSubmitInfo_Click" ImageUrl="css/assets/btn_ok.png" runat="server"/> and there is nothing defined that tells anything that the OK button should close the popup (the Cancel button has class="simplemodal-close", so I would expect it to do just that, but not the OK button) - anyone have any ideas on the best way through this?   • Is it OK to push my code to GitHub while it is still in early development?

    I have some projects that are in a very early development state. They are nowhere nearing completion but I do host them (as public repos) on GitHub because: I have multiple computers and I want access to my code everywhere I want a backup for my code I want it to be easy if someone wants to collaborate in some way I use GitHub Issues as a poor man's project management software Is it OK to publish a project on GitHub even when it is very early in the development? I am a bit concerned about someone to come by and say OMG this is total BS, this code is so bad! while looking at unpolished/still in development/not tested code. What are your practices when you start new public projects? Do you wait until you have something substantial to show or you create a bare repo directly on GitHub and start from there? I used GitHub throughout this post but this applies to every code hosting service out there.

  • Convince teammates to follow standards

    There's always one or two guys, who think, they are great programmers, and they don't need any literature/specifications/etc. They usually write awful code, that makes you want to hurt them. They catch and suppress Throwable's, return null's, concatenate String's in large loops, do other stupid stuff. So the question is — How do I make such a person follow best practices and specifications? He does not listen (cause he's the best programmer), team lead does not give a damn ("It actually works, so why changing it?.."), and I'm actually tired of rewriting that awful code on my own. What do I do? What would you do?

    hello, i'm beginner at android development. i want to create an activity, which shows a question with 4 answers, and at the bottom of the screen i want to place a timer. i have already found timer example, and i created a question with the answers. the problem that they are 2 different projects and activities, and i am looking for the best way to implement it. i think i can't show 2 activities on one screen, but i can show 2 views or shell i use the ViewGroup, or maybe to copy-paste one of the activities code to another ( its the easiest way but probably the most ugliest way to implement it). please tell me what is the best way, that i will study and not to waste time to study all the ways and only then to choose one of them. thanks!

    We are looking for some tools to help us with our web development speed. The two main areas that we have pinpointed as parts of the problem are "Framework/Flow Management" and "Visual/Layout Development" Ideally we would find a tool that handles both rather well. However, it seems like there are few tools that handle the middle ground well. Usually it is just a Framework, or and IDE, not both. The best thing we have found so far is Agile Platform. Are we missing any obvious products? Platform at this point is not a huge concern. We can migrate to the best tool.

    I have some questions on Composite Primary Keys and the cardinality of the columns. I searched the web, but did not find any definitive answer, so I am trying again. The questions are: Context: Large (50M - 500M rows) OLAP Prep tables, not NOSQL, not Columnar. MySQL and DB2 1) Does the order of keys in a PK matter? 2) If the cardinality of the columns varies heavily, which should be used first. For example, if I have CLIENT/CAMPAIGN/PROGRAM where CLIENT is highly cardinal, CAMPAIGN is moderate, PROGRAM is almost like a bitmap index, what order is the best? 3) What order is the best for Join, if there is a Where clause and when there is no Where Clause (for views) Thanks in advance.

    Hi, I would like to know the best way to populate an object that has a collection of child objects and each child object may inturn have a collection of objects, from database without making multiple calls to the database to get child objects for each object. basically in hierarchical format something like for example a customer has orders and each order has order items. is it best to retrieve the data in xml format (SQL server 2005), or retrieve a dataset by joining the related tables together and then map that the data to the object? thanks in advance for your help.

  • How to program three editions Light, Pro, Ultimate in one solution

    I'd like to know how best to program three different editions of my C# ASP.NET 3.5 application in VS2008 Professional (which includes a web deployment project). I have a Light, Pro and Ultimate edition (or version) of my application. At the moment I've put all in one solution with three build versions in configuration manager and I use preprocessor directives all over the code (there are around 20 such constructs in some ten thousand lines of code, so it's overseeable): #if light //light code #endif #if pro //pro code #endif //etc... I've read in stackoverflow for hours and thought to encounter how e.g. Microsoft does this with its different Windows editions, but did not find what I expected. Somewhere there is a heavy discussion about if preprocessor directives are evil. What I like with those #if-directives is: the side-by-side code of differences, so I will understand the code for the different editions after six months and the special benefit to NOT give out compiled code of other versions to the customer. OK, long explication, repeated question: What's the best way to go?

  • transferring subversion changes between linux and windows

    Hi all, What is the best way to transfer changes that include new and deleted directories and/or new and deleted (actually moved) files in those directories from a subversion repository on linux to windows? I do my developments on linux using a subversion repository, but I have to test my changes on windows as well. My windows machine has a tortoisesvn repository which I tried to patch with a svn diff output. This failed miserably since my patch contains a renamed (i.e. deleted and added under a different name) directory, a new directory and the files in there. Do I do things wrong by just applying the svn diff output as a patch in tortoisesvn? For now I think that my best option is to have the windows tree on the same svn version as the linux tree and just copy the entire changed directory over the existing directory. Would that work?

    Hello there, so here is my problem: I have several different configuarion servers. I have different calculations (jobs); I can predict how long approximately each job will take to be caclulated. Also, I have priorities. My question is how to keep all machines loaded 99-100% and schedule the jobs in the best way. Each machine can do several calculations at a time. Jobs are pushed to the machine. The central machine knows the current load of each machine. Also, I would like to to assign some kind of machine learning here, because I will know statistics of each job (started, finished, cpu load etc.). How can I distribute jobs (calculations) in the best possible way, keeping in mind the priorities? Any suggestions, ideas, or algorithms ? FYI: My platform .NET.

    Whats the best way to use a SQL DB along side a NoSQL DB? I want to keep my users and other data in postgres but have some data that would be better suited for a NoSQL DB like redis. I see a lot of talk about switching to NoSQL but little talk on integrating it with existing systems. I think it would be foolish to throw the baby out with the bath water and ditch SQL all together, unless it makes things easier to maintain and develop. I'm wondering what the best approach is for relating data stored in SQL to my data in redis. I was thinking of something along the line of this. User object stored in SQL Book object in redis, key sh1 hash of value, value is a JSON string Relations stored in redis, key User.pk:books, value redis set of sha1's Anyone have experience, tips, better ways?

  • As a programmer what single discovery has given you the greatest boost in productivity?

    This question has been inspired by my recent discovery/adoption of distributed version control. I started using it (mercurial) just because I liked the idea of still being able to make commits at times when I couldn't connect to the central server. I never expected it would give me a large boost in general productivity, but a pleasant side effect I discovered was that making a new clone every time I started a new task and giving that clone a descriptive folder name is extremely effective at keeping me on task resulting is a noticeable productivity increase. So as a programmer what single discovery has given you the greatest boost in productivity? Extra respect for answers which involve tools or practices that aren't so obvious from the outside!

  • What's the cross-browser way to capture all single clicks on a button?

    What's the best way to execute a function exactly once every time a button is clicked, regardless of click speed and browser? Simply binding a "click" handler works perfectly in all browsers except IE. In IE, when the user clicks too fast, only "dblclick" fires, so the "click" handler is never executed. Other browsers trigger both events so it's not a problem for them. The obvious solution/hack (to me at least) is to attach a dblclick handler in IE that triggers my click handler twice. Another idea is to track clicks myself with mousedown/mouseup, which seems pretty primitive and probably belongs in a framework rather than my application. So, what's the best/usual/right way of handling this? (pure javascript or jQuery preferred)
