• installing wxGTK-devel on CentOS 5.4

  I'm trying to install wxGTK-devel on CentOS and since it's not in the base repo I added RPMForge. But now I'm getting these broken dependencies. I don't want start tampering with separate rpms because I suspect it will make thing worse. I remember installing this package from RPMForge without a problem several months ago. • Host name change breaking http? Fedora

  OK so I have been messing around on my development server. It has been a while since I have had my head in linux and I suspect I have broken something. I have SSH running and that is working fine. I also have HTTP and I had FTP running also. Earlier today I decided I wanted to rename the machine so I updated the /etc/hosts file and /etc/sysconfig/network. I also changed the server name in the httpd.conf. I rebooted the machine and reconnected to SSH fine. Later I was messing around with the FTP service (trying to tighten up the user security) and when i tried to connect remotely to FTP no joy, it said cannot connect. I thought that was weird but had planned to remove ftp as we will be using github so removed ftp and moved on. Then I tried to connect to the website but major fail. even connecting to the IP address is failing. I used lynx to connect to the localhost and there was my site so something going on at server level. I thought maybe something up with iptables but I have not changed them but tried adding http but still no joy.   Earlier this year we shared an Iron Man prop build made from Dollar Store parts. The same Dollar Store tinker is at it again, this time building a Terminator endoskull. James Bruton has a sort of mad tinker knack for finding odds and ends at the Dollar Store and mashing them together into novel creations. • Write permissions on uploaded files - Linux, Apache, PHP

  I am working on a PHP script that transfers files using FTP functions. It has always worked on my production server (which is a hosting service). The development server I have just setup (I am a novice to servers) is Debian Lenny with Apache2, PHP5, and MySQL5. The file transfer works correctly, but once the file has been written to the server, it has permissions of 600. This makes it impossible for me to view the file (JPEG) in the web browser, as permission is denied. I have scoured the internet and even broken my server installation and reinstalled it trying to figure this out (which has been fun, nonetheless!). I know it is unwise to set 777 permissions on public accessible files, but even that will not solve the problem. The only thing that works is if I chmod 777 thefile.jpg after it has been transferred, which is not a working solution. I tried changing the owner of my site files to www-data per this post, but that also does not work. My user is mike, and it still does not work whether the owner of the files is mike or root. Would somebody point me in the right direction? Thanks! And, of course, let me know if I can clarify anything.

• Pagination and duplicate content

  I have an archive page that displays the number of articles published. Because there were so many, I ran a pagination script: for 127.0.0.1/archive/2/?p=x&pp=y where p is the page number and pp is number of articles to display per page. The pagination looks like this: Prev 1 2 3 4 ... 12 NEXT with each item linking to p like <a href="?p=x">x</a>. I also have the items per page setter: 25 | 50 | 100 (<a href="?pp=y">y</a>). Now I have a PHP script that fixes pp into a session variable. But I am worried about duplicate content (since incrementing pp values will be inclusive) and also content not getting indexed because its not in the pagination link. so in the example above, pages 5-11 will not be indexed. Any ideas on how to fix this?

• Ubuntu One API Java - how to use REST and AccessToken?

  I am writing a java app in eclipse that backups data to several consumer-cloud-services encrypted and redundant. So far, I successfully implemented the authentication process, as it is described in the documentation. At this point, I do not know how to proceed. The next step would be implementing the auth with the stored AccessToken and afterwars implementing upload/download/listing functionality through the REST API. I think I have to store the String oauth.getSerialized(). How do I authenticate with this String afterwards? This does not work e.g.: AuthenticateResponse oauth = api.authenticate(serialized); api.setAuthorizer(new OAuthAuthorizer(oauth)); Can someone tell me please, how I can use the REST API with java? There is no explanation or link in the developers area as far as I saw. And btw, I wasted at least one hour trying to fix errors, because some needed libraries are listet after the example code. :/

• Linux VLAN Bridge

  I have home network with VLANs, one for LAN, one for WLAN and one for internet. I'd like to use bridging so that instead of configuring these same VLANs to every machine, they had own VLAN ID and bridges were LAN, WLAN and internet. I've tried it but for some reason keep-alive/ttl seems to get broken because SSH sessions etc suddenly disconnects. We have this same setup working in workplace for 4+ years with 100+ customers but it's custom firewall/router hardware so accessing it is impossible. I know that it runs Linux. So what is Debian/Ubuntu default network settings doing wrong or is it just NIC driver/hw problem? I've tried to mess araund with ttl etc settings without any luck.   I have an Ubuntu 12.04 server virtual box where basically the installed software and configuration are the default ones, plus the installation of a jetty 6 server which servers a few websites. To keep things simple I didn't install apache httpd and used iptables for exposing jetty (which runs on the 8080 port) to the port 80. This thing works, but sometimes I have an explosion of sockets that stay permanently in CLOSE_WAIT state. I know about what this state means, but since I didn't write the code that manages servlets (they are handled by jetty) I can't fix the problem by patching my code. Eventually the amount of CLOSE_WAIT sockets builds up and makes the server not responsive, so I have to restart jetty. I've looked around for similar problems wth CLOSE_WAIT, and only found cases related to the programmer's code, or problems with Tomcat, not Jetty. I was wondering whether they could be related to a partially broken iptables configuration (the alternative is a bug in Jetty 6, but I first want to exclude other possible causes). Thanks.

• iPhone 3d Model format: .h file, .obj, or some other?

  I'm beginning to write an iPhone game using OpenGL-ES and I've come across a problem with deciding what format my 3D models should be in. I've read (link escapes me at the moment) that some developers prefer the models compiled in Objective-C .h files. Still, others prefer having .obj as these are more portable (i.e., for deployment on non-iPhone platforms). Various 3D game engines seem to support many(?) formats, but I'm not going to use any of these engines as I would like to actually learn OpenGL-ES. Am I putting myself at a disadvantage here by not using a packaged engine? Thanks!

What I know I can track is: -what products people view on my website (default Google Analytics pageview behaviour). -what affiliate links people click on my website (with GA _trackEvent). What am I missing is: -what products people end up buying after clicking on the affiliate links. Does the Amazon affiliate program offers you any mechanism for linking a purchase with some data from your website? I noticed that I was able to add custom parameters and values to my affiliate links and the link checker was still happy with them, if Amazon gave the links that initiated an order then I would be able to cross reference the orders using custom parameters...

And I suggest (strongly) that you also download the free Extension Pack from the same page... Brings USB 2.0 emulation and more!I upgraded the version on my Solaris Express (get that from : http://www.oracle.com/solaris/index.html and follow the Download Solaris Express link on the right) laptop (pfexec pkgrm SUNWvbox and then pfexec pkgadd -d the .pkg in the compressed archive file, and install the extensions from the VBox GUI once it's launched). If you are on an old fashion OS without proper RBAC, replace pfexec by sudo. Which you can also do on Solaris if you really want to. :)I tell you, it's Christmas, for sure!Merry VBox!Gilles.

• Tracking URL Goals to an external site from a landing page

  I have a landing page promoting an iOS app. The page is at vitogo.com. I've set up a goal for When a user clicks on the link to go to iTunes to download the app. I set up a URL destination goal in the property for the site, and can see the goal set up in the reports section. The problem is it isn't tracking any clicks. I've had the goal set up for a while now, and it hasn't tracked anything. Thanks for the help!

• Update drivers for TL-WN851ND

  Today I bought a new PCI wireless card, TP-Link WN851ND, with Atheros AR9227 chipset. It has 2 antennas and is compatible with Wifi N so I thought it would improve the quality of the signal. But after install it on my computer the result is the opposite to expected. It doesn't connect to my network, while my old Wifi BG card connect without problems, I created an access point from my smartphone to try the card, and work, but is very slow loading pages. In Windows 7 works perfectly, so I think the problem is the driver. I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with kernel 3.2.0.31, is there a way to update the driver or I can apply a patch to improve the performance of the card? Otherwise, anyone know if there is a work in progress to improve compatibility with this chipset, or is it better to change the card and buy one with better driver compatibility. And finally, which wireless N compatible chipsets have good support under Linux/Ubuntu?

  My aim is to simply be informative about where a link is pointing to search engines. I have some content that is listed by name and then I have a "Permalink" button. Would it be blackhat SEO to add some hidden text within the anchor that describes where the permalink is pointing? My content is like so: News Item 1 Permalink (<a href="/my-news-item-1"><hidden>News Item 1</hidden> Permalink</a>) Teaser text.. The news title of the block already links to the article, but I think it would be of benefit to users to provide and explicit permalink button.

• How to make gpg2 flush the stream?

  I want to get some slowly flowing data saved in encrypted form at the device which can be turned off abruptly. • How to solve this problem starting new Opera-windows on dual monitor-setup?

  I use Opera and have a setup with two monitors. If I want to open a new URL opera -newwindow URL. The outcome differs, if I execute this command in a program on the same screen where Opera is, or on the other. On the same screen everything is fine. I get the message opera: Activated running instance and the new window with the URL is opened. On the other screen, I get a dialog with the following message: It appears another opera instance is using the same configuration directory because its lock file is active: /home/(my name)/.opera/lock and the URL is not shown. That's not only from console, also if I click a link in E-Mail or so. How can I fix this? Window-manager is awesome, if it does make a difference.
