• Recovering a deleted partition after installing Ubuntu?

  I have a serious problem. I Installed Ubuntu 13.04 on my Laptop. I format all partitions (Windows)/(Erase all data and Install Ubuntu):( . How do I recover my accidentally lost Windows partitions after installing Ubuntu?. I try using PartitionWizard and Testdisk. But cannot recovery partition, Partitionwozard and Testdisk only detected the linux partition (Linux/Ext4 and Linux/Swap). I hope the answer. Please help. and Sorry for my English is not good. • Ubuntu 12.04 VM goes dead unexpectedly

  I'm not a super savvy super user, so I'm not sure what to look for. I have a vm running 12.04. It runs fine, and then just dies (no ping, no ssh). When I log into vmwaresphere, I see the vm still 'UP', but the console gives me a response-less black screen. This lead me to believe that Ubuntu was going into some sort of sleep/hibernate state. I double checked the power settings and found nothing out of the ordinary, so now I'm stuck on how to fix the problem. There are 5-7 (centos-5.8 & 6) machines running on the same server/vm setup with no problems at all. thanks.

  I am trying to make a point-and-click adventure game with XNA, starting off simple. My experience with XNA is about a month old now, know how the classes and inheritance works (basic stuff). I have a problem where I cannot understand how I should load and unload the textures and game objects in the game, when the player transitions to another level. I've googled this 10 times, but all I find is hard coding while I don't even understand the basics of unloading yet. All I want, is transitioning to another level (replacing all the sprites with new ones). Thanks in advance

  I am working on a dollars to euros/euros to dollars converter in C#. I got the formula, $ times 0.73361 = euro, and I have checked Google with the answers. They were right, (1 dollar equals 0.73 euros). However, it stops working properly when the dollar input value is higher than $1363. This is what I get with $1364: $1364 = 1 000,64 €. I don't know what to do, will someone please help me? • How to resize(increase) a root+home cloned partition from a smaller hdd?

  Here is my story: I had a hd failing so I cloned it with dd to larger 500gb hd. It seemed to have worked well, but I have all this unallocated free space at the end of the disk (230gb). I tried to used gparted from a liveUSB to allocate all this space to my root+home partition (other than that I only have a small extended partition with the swap). It won't let me do this. I can only create another partition, or allocate the free space to the extend partition. I can however reduce the size of the root+home partition since I wasn't using all the space Is there a way to put this free space to my root+home partition after all? Or do I have to go with another partition. If so I'd like to separate my home from the root, reduce the root partition and create a ext4 logical home partition. What would be the best safest way to do this? Thanks so much in advance, aloha

• MMORPG Server architecture: How to handle player input (messages/packets) while the server has to update many other things at the same time?

  Yes, the question is is very difficult. This is more or less like what I'm thinking up to now: while(true) { if (hasMessage) { handleTheMessage(); } } But while I'm receiving the player's input, I also have objects that need to be updated or, of course, monsters walking (which need to have their locations updated on the game client everytime), among other things. What should I do? Make a thread to handle things that can't be stopped no matter what? Code an "else" in the infinity loop where I update the other things when I don't have player's input to handle? Or even: should I only update the things that at least one player can see? These are just suggestions... I'm really confused about it. If there's a book that covers these things, I'd like to know. It's not that important, but I'm using the Lidgren lib, C# and XNA to code both server and client. Thanks in advance.

  I'm using 14:04 which is pretty nice. Something wionders me: if I open a window (e.g. Ubuntu Software Centre) I can see SOME items (sometimes nothing) but by hovering the mouse over it it appears - and then disappears again. Sometimes the side mover acts the same way... Maybe it has to do with my hardware: P4, 3 GHz, 2 GB RAM, older graphics board, KVM-switch? There's no difference whether I use Gnome, Ubuntu standard, Ubuntu classic, Ubuntu fallback... Thanks for hints Jens

• Stuck in logon loop

  Here's the deal. I set up a computer with Ubuntu 10.04 for my grandmother. Everything worked fine. I connected it to the internet at her house today. After rebooting the computer I found that the computer would kick you back to the logon screen if you attempted to logon to her account. It worked fine logging on to my admin account, and also in Gnome's safe mode. I thought it had resolved itself, but turns out it hadn't, and now I don't have physical access to the computer, plus the remote connection I'd hoped to use only works intermittently. I need some suggestions for troubleshooting for when I'm at her house at some point next week. Ask for any more details, but I'm afraid I won't be able to provide many more until I've checked it out in person, since she is basically unable to use a computer beyond web browsing. • C# WPF to Embedded programming transition

  I've been learning C# .NET Framework for around 4-6 months (still starting) using some books, and have currently made my way up to Collections and Generics. I'll probably spend the next two months covering the rest up to LINQ and/or Garbage Collections. The thing is, I started to get interested in embedded systems and found out that you can use C# to code it through .NET MF, which mean I wouldn't have to learn C or C++. So, I would like to know if the knowledge I'll have by that time (2 months) will be enough to start working on Embedded (using C# .NET Micro Framework and Netduino) or I should probably see more about plain C# like Multithreading, async and other advanced features ? I want use embedded just as a hobby, at least by now, as I'll still have a long way through university. Although, I'll probably pick it as a career then. Thanks in advance!

• Ubuntu 13.10 on SSD (system) and HDD (data). Missing /grub/i386-pc/normal.mod

  I've got HDD (750 GB) and SSD (16 GB). I want to install Ubuntu (13.10) on SSD, but because of its smallness I need to install /home, /var and /tmp on HDD. After that I would like to install Windows (system + data) on another partition of that HDD, but it is not important now. I installed Ubuntu (I had formatted and partitioned the disk before), but when I restarted my laptop it said: 'error: file '/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found. grub rescue'. I tried to reinstall Grub 2 using this tutorial (as sdXY I used sdb1, because it's the only one partion of my SSD), but it didn't work. Can anybody help me, please? Thanks, Tatarkow

  Alright, I think it's a simple question, but I got difficulties to find some answers around. I already read that XNA wouldn't be in Visual Studio 2012. I recently learned to use XNA, but since I would like to work on games, I'd like to know if there's a way to develop games using C# on Visual Studio 2012, or if I should learn everything again using C++ and Direct3D? C# is a language I like a lot, so if there's no way to do it in C# but something quite easy to use Java for game development, I'd also be interested. Thanks a lot!

  I am setting up a personal website and I would like to be able to share certain files with friends (e.g. photo albums or documents). Of course, each of the files should only be accessible to certain people, for example with a password or a private address. I would like to have a simple system, easy to maintain. I'm quite sure that Wordpress would let me know do something but keeping a Wordpress installation just for sharing a few files per month seems too much work. I am thinking of using the Apache capabilities for folder or file password protecting. Is this the best idea? Or would it be better just to block the directory navigation so that only people with the full path for each of the files can download them? Thanks!

  Using the following html, css,jquery, js, what would be the best approach to achieving this. A visitor hits the website. The website page is displaying html and a css3 animation. The visitor is given the option to enter text freely into a text box, they enter an email address and hit send. The person receiving the message gets an email with a link, when they click the link it takes them to the webpage with the animation and the custom message their friend entered.   Currently Work in IT support and am retraining in electrical engineering / electronics, I am also interested in Reverse Engineering which language would be best for Hardware RE, I have seen a few sources say C, C++ and Python? I am not familiar with Linux, but installed ubuntu to learn with. I am not a programmer far from it, but I can understand enough basic VB,Java and PHP to edit it for simple things. One of my immediate projects would be to learn to reverse engineer USB devices and write my own low level drivers, I know there are porting kits, but I really want to know it from the ground up. • My screen is messed up, using GeForce 8400 GS NVIDIA

  My screen is all messed up. I can see everything beside my start menu and when I scroll up the mouse arrow goes up and out of the screen. It's not normal. Do I need to install "GeForce 8400 GS NVIDIA" drivers on my Ubuntu 12.10 32-bit machine? Please be very patient with me and use very simple words that a simple newbie could understand. • sound cuts out at random times

  Since I updated to 14.04, I have been having a problem with my sound. Every once in a while it "skips a beat." and when I say every once in a while, I mean 2-4 times a minute. It's literally that the sounds goes a way for about half a second. It doesn't pick up where it left off, but rather continues from where it should be...if that makes sense. So, if it cut in mid word, I wouldn't hear the end of the word. I didn't have this problem before I updated from 12.04. There is no popping or static, it just cuts for a fraction of a second. Any thoughts? Thanks!

  I didn't know exactly when the problem occurred. My Wine worked well a couple days ago. Then, I was just about to install some Windows programs hours ago but I got nothing. No installer window showed up, and no error report. It just won't work. And now I just found where the problem is (screenshot below), but I don't know how to fix it. Any idea? • Option to save project files for later use in Dreamweaver?

  Does anyone know of an extension or other way to allow me to save a set of files in a project for later use? Example: - Working on site A, opened html files A1-A15 (15 files) Received a request to work on site B, new files (number unimportant). I would like DW to remember that I was working on files A1-A15. Close the site A files and focus on just files from site B. Complete site B work. Reopen site A files altogether. Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
