  • OpenGL flickerinng near the edges

    - by Daniel
    I am trying to simulate particles moving around the scene with OpenCL for computation and OpenGL for rendering with GLUT. There is no OpenCL-OpenGL interop yet, so the drawing is done in the older fixed pipeline way. Whenever circles get close to the edges, they start to flicker. The drawing should draw a part of the circle on the top of the scene and a part on the bottom. The effect is the following: The balls you see on the bottom should be one part on the bottom and one part on the top. Wrapping around the scene, so to say, but they constantly flicker. The code for drawing them is: void Scene::drawCircle(GLuint index){ glMatrixMode(GL_MODELVIEW); glLoadIdentity(); glTranslatef(pos.at(2*index),pos.at(2*index+1), 0.0f); glBegin(GL_TRIANGLE_FAN); GLfloat incr = (2.0 * M_PI) / (GLfloat) slices; glColor3f(0.8f, 0.255f, 0.26f); glVertex2f(0.0f, 0.0f); glColor3f(1.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f); for(GLint i = 0; i <=slices; ++i){ GLfloat x = radius * sin((GLfloat) i * incr); GLfloat y = radius * cos((GLfloat) i * incr); glVertex2f(x, y); } glEnd(); } If it helps, this is the reshape method: void Scene::reshape(GLint width, GLint height){ if(0 == height) height = 1; //Prevent division by zero glViewport(0, 0, width, height); glMatrixMode(GL_PROJECTION); glLoadIdentity(); gluOrtho2D(xmin, xmax, ymin, ymax); std::cout << xmin << " " << xmax << " " << ymin << " " << ymax << std::endl; }

  • Translating an Object to a certain Vector 3 in OpenGL and Java LWJGL

    - by aliasmk
    So after almost two hours, I got the hang of using glTranslated() (with Java and LWJGL). If I am correct, applying glTranslated on an object moves that object with the x,y,z relative to the previously moved object. I believe the correct term for this is local vs global, global being the one I want. I was wondering if there was a way to translate an object to a specific XYZ position, or relative to the origin. Thanks! (Code or other details can be supplied if it helps, just let me know. Also sorry if this is a noob comment, Im very new to OpenGL.)

  • Tool for creating complex paths?

    - by TerryB
    I want to create some fairly complex predefined paths for my AI sprites to follow. I'll need to use curves, splines etc to get the effect I want. Is there a drawing tool out there that will allow me to draw such curves, "mesh" them by placing lots of points along them at some defined density and then output the coordinates of all of those points for me? I could write this tool myself but hopefully one of the drawing packages can do this? Cheers!

  • Unable to access A class variables in B Class - Unity-Monodevelop

    - by Syed
    I have made a class including variables in Monodevelop which is: public class GridInfo : MonoBehaviour { public float initPosX; public float initPosY; public bool inUse; public int f; public int g; public int h; public GridInfo parent; public int y,x; } Now I am using its class variable in another class, Map.cs which is: public class Map : MonoBehaviour { public static GridInfo[,] Tile = new GridInfo[17, 23]; void Start() { Tile[0,0].initPosX = initPosX; //Line 49 } } Iam not getting any error on runtime, but when I play in unity it is giving me error NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object Map.Start () (at Assets/Scripts/Map.cs:49) I am not inserting this script in any gameobject, as Map.cs will make a GridInfo type array, I have also tried using variables using GetComponent, where is the problem ?

  • Best practices with Vertices in Open GL

    - by Darestium
    What is the best practice in regards to storing vertex data in Open GL? I.e: struct VertexColored { public: GLfloat position[]; GLfloat normal[]; byte colours[]; } class Terrian { private: GLuint vbo_vertices; GLuint vbo_normals; GLuint vbo_colors; GLuint ibo_elements; VertexColored vertices[]; } or having them stored seperatly in the required class like: class Terrian { private: GLfloat vertices[]; GLfloat normals[]; GLfloat colors[]; GLuint vbo_vertices; GLuint vbo_normals; GLuint vbo_colors; GLuint ibo_elements; }

  • Looking for a simple web interface with subversion support and ticket /issue tracker [closed]

    - by Stefan Andre Brannfjell
    I am working on a small project and we have a few programmers on the job. We are using subversion to commit updates and keep all developers up to date on their workstations. However, we have yet to find a suitable web interface to use for it. I have tried redmine, but that installation progress was extremely bothersome and advanced. Once I got it to work I found out that it was slow and did not meet my expectations. As well as it seems a bit complex for our needs. I would prefer to find a solution that supports lighttpd web server, however that seem to be very hard to come by, those I have found seem to only have apache support. Functionality i wish for the website: - login to an svn account - view svn logs - view & create issues, todo list etc - view svn difference Do you have any open source recommendations that I can try out? I will appreciate any kind of reply. :) Edit: I wish to host the website on our own servers.

  • Integration error in high velocity

    - by Elektito
    I've implemented a simple simulation of two planets (simple 2D disks really) in which the only force is gravity and there is also collision detection/response (collisions are completely elastic). I can launch one planet into orbit of the other just fine. The collision detection code though does not work so well. I noticed that when one planet hits the other in a free fall it speeds backward and goes much higher than its original position. Some poking around convinced me that the simplistic Euler integration is causing the error. Consider this case. One object has a mass of 1kg and the other has a mass equal to earth. Say the object is 10 meters above ground. Assume that our dt (delta t) is 1 second. The object goes to the height of 9 meters at the end of the first iteration, 7 at the end of the second, 4 at the end of the third and 0 at the end of the fourth iteration. At this points it hits the ground and bounces back with the speed of 10 meters per second. The problem is with dt=1, on the first iteration it bounces back to a height of 10. It takes several more steps to make the object change its course. So my question is, what integration method can I use which fixes this problem. Should I split dt to smaller pieces when velocity is high? Or should I use another method altogether? What method do you suggest? EDIT: You can see the source code here at github:https://github.com/elektito/diskworld/

  • What does SetTextureStage(0, D3DTSS_COLORARG2, 0) in DirectX mean?

    - by Vite Falcon
    I'm trying to convert some DirectX code to Ogre3D and was wondering what the following translates to: pDev->SetTextureStage(0, D3DTSS_TEXCOORDINDEX, 0) pDev->SetTextureStage(0, D3DTSS_COLORARG1, D3DTA_TEXTURE) pDev->SetTextureStage(0, D3DTSS_COLOROP, D3DTOP_MODULATE) pDev->SetTextureStage(0, D3DTSS_COLORARG2, 0) What is the modulation operation happening here? Is the texture getting modulated with the background? Or is it getting zeroed? I've tried searching for what this means and unfortunately I haven't come across anything meaningful. Any help to shed light on this matter will be much appreciated.

  • Calculating 2D (screen) coordinates from 3D positions in XNA 4.0

    - by NDraskovic
    I have a program that draws some items to the scene by loading their positions from a file. Now I want to place a Ray on the same location where the items are drawn. So my question is how can I calculate the position of the ray (it's 2D components) by using 3D coordinates of each particular item? The items don't move anywhere, so once they are placed they stay until the end of the programs execution. Thanks.

  • How is this lighting effect done?

    - by Mike
    This is the most beautiful 2d lighting I have ever seen. Does anyone know how he went about doing it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIQRhOFkvQY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnTYXPuecMs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhC_jVM8IYU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Aw5BdjWqqU Or download it here: http://grantkot.com/PollutedPlanet/publish.htm edit: I am not asking how the particles are simulated; I don't care about the physics.

  • Scrolling background stops after awhile?

    Can anyone tell me where my maths is wrong please, it stops scrolling after awhile. if (background.position.y < background2.position.y) { background.position = ccp(background.contentSize.width / 2, background.position.y - 50 * delta); background2.position = ccp(background.contentSize.width / 2, background.position.y + background.contentSize.height); } else { background.position = ccp(background2.contentSize.width / 2, background2.position.y - 50 * delta); background.position = ccp(background2.contentSize.width / 2, background2.position.y + background.contentSize.height); } //reset if (background.position.y <-background.contentSize.height / 2) { background.position = ccp(background.contentSize.width / 2 ,background2.position.y + background2.contentSize.height); } else if (background2.position.y < -background2.contentSize.height / 2) { background2.position = ccp(background2.contentSize.width / 2, background.position.y + background.contentSize.height); }

  • Texture and Lighting Issue in 3D world

    - by noah
    Im using OpenGL ES 1.1 for iPhone. I'm attempting to implement a skybox in my 3d world and started out by following one of Jeff Lamarches tutorials on creating textures. Heres the tutorial: iphonedevelopment.blogspot.com/2009/05/opengl-es-from-ground-up-part-6_25.html Ive successfully added the image to my 3d world but am not sure why the lighting on the other shapes has changed so much. • Parent variable inheritance methods Unity3D/C#

    - by Timothy Williams
    I'm creating a system where there is a base "Hero" class and each hero inherits from that with their own stats and abilities. What I'm wondering is, how could I call a variable from one of the child scripts in the parent script (something like maxMP = MP) or call a function in a parent class that is specified in each child class (in the parent update is alarms() in the child classes alarms() is specified to do something.) Is this possible at all? Or not? Thanks.

  • New way of integrating Openfeint in Cocos2d-x 0.12.0

    - by Ef Es
    I am trying to implement OpenFeint for Android in my cocos2d-x project. My approach so far has been creating a button that calls a static java method in class Bridge using jnihelper functions (jnihelper only accepts statics). Bridge has one singleton attribute of type OFAndroid, that is the class dynamically calling the Openfeint Api methods, and every method in the bridge just forwards it to the OFAndroid object. What I am trying to do now is to initialize the openfeint libraries in the main java class that is the one calling the static C++ libraries. My problem right now is that the initializing function void com.openfeint.api.OpenFeint.initialize(Context ctx, OpenFeintSettings settings, OpenFeintDelegate delegate) is not accepting the context parameter that I am giving him, which is a "this" reference to the main class. Main class extends from Cocos2dxActivity but I don't have any other that extends from Application. Any suggestions on fixing it or how to improve the architecture? EDIT: I am trying a new solution. Make the bridge class into an Application child, is called from Main object, initializes OpenFeint when created and it can call the OpenFeint functions instead of needing an additional class. The problem is I still get the error. 03-30 14:39:22.661: E/AndroidRuntime(9029): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 03-30 14:39:22.661: E/AndroidRuntime(9029): at android.content.ContextWrapper.getPackageManager(ContextWrapper.java:85) 03-30 14:39:22.661: E/AndroidRuntime(9029): at com.openfeint.internal.OpenFeintInternal.validateManifest(OpenFeintInternal.java:885) 03-30 14:39:22.661: E/AndroidRuntime(9029): at com.openfeint.internal.OpenFeintInternal.initializeWithoutLoggingIn(OpenFeintInternal.java:829) 03-30 14:39:22.661: E/AndroidRuntime(9029): at com.openfeint.internal.OpenFeintInternal.initialize(OpenFeintInternal.java:852) 03-30 14:39:22.661: E/AndroidRuntime(9029): at com.openfeint.api.OpenFeint.initialize(OpenFeint.java:47) 03-30 14:39:22.661: E/AndroidRuntime(9029): at nurogames.fastfish.NuroFeint.onCreate(NuroFeint.java:23) 03-30 14:39:22.661: E/AndroidRuntime(9029): at nurogames.fastfish.FastFish.onCreate(FastFish.java:47) 03-30 14:39:22.661: E/AndroidRuntime(9029): at android.app.Instrumentation.callActivityOnCreate(Instrumentation.java:1069) 03-30 14:39:22.661: E/AndroidRuntime(9029): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2751)

  • Checking is sides of cubes are solid

    - by Christian Frantz
    In relation to this question: http://gamedev.stackexchange.com/a/28524/31664 And a question I asked earlier: Creating a DrawableGameComponent And also because my internet is too slow to get on chat. I'm wondering how to check if the sides of a cube are solid. I've created 12 methods, each one creating indices and vertices for sides of a cube. Now when I use these methods, the cube creates how it should. All 6 sides show up and its like I didnt change a thing. How can use if statements to check if the side of a cube is solid? The pseudocode from the question above shows this: if(!isSolidAt(x+1,y,z)) verticesToDraw += AddXPlusFace(x,y,z) But in my case is would be: if(!sideIsSolid) SetUpFrontFaceIndices(); My method simply takes these index and vertex values and adds them to a list indicesToDraw and verticesToDraw, as shown in the answer above

  • Need ideas for an algorithm to draw irregular blotchy shapes

    - by Yttermayn
    I'm looking to draw irregular shapes on an x,y grid, and I'd like to come up with a simple, fast method if possible. My only idea so far is to draw a bunch of circles of random sizes very near each other, but at a random distance apart from a more or less central coordinate, then fill in any blank spaces. I realize this is a clunky, inelegant method, hopefully it will give you a rough idea of the kinds of rounded, random blotchy shapesI'm shooting for. Please suggest methods to accomplish this, I'm not so much interested in code. I can noodle that part out myself. Thanks!

  • Importing a windows project into android using cocos2d-x

    - by Ef Es
    What I am trying to do today is to import a full project to Android, but no tutorials are available for that that I have seen. My approach was to create a new android project, copy all the classes and resources in the folders and calling ./build_native.sh but I get an error because most of the files are not being included in the project. I tried opening the Android.mk and I can see why "LOCAL_SRC_FILES := AppDelegate.cpp \ HelloWorldScene.cpp" are the only files linked. Should I manually modify the make file or can it be automated by some way I don't know? Thank you. UPDATE: I manually added all files and headers to the make file and I get errors linking Box2D or cocosdenshion libraries.

  • How to refactor and improve this XNA mouse input code?

    - by Andrew Price
    Currently I have something like this: public bool IsLeftMouseButtonDown() { return currentMouseState.LeftButton == ButtonState.Pressed && previousMouseSate.LeftButton == ButtonState.Pressed; } public bool IsLeftMouseButtonPressed() { return currentMouseState.LeftButton == ButtonState.Pressed && previousMouseSate.LeftButton == ButtonState.Released; } public bool IsLeftMouseButtonUp() { return currentMouseState.LeftButton == ButtonState.Released && previousMouseSate.LeftButton == ButtonState.Released; } public bool IsLeftMouseButtonReleased() { return currentMouseState.LeftButton == ButtonState.Released && previousMouseSate.LeftButton == ButtonState.Pressed; } This is fine. In fact, I kind of like it. However, I'd hate to have to repeat this same code five times (for right, middle, X1, X2). Is there any way to pass in the button I want to the function so I could have something like this? public bool IsMouseButtonDown(MouseButton button) { return currentMouseState.IsPressed(button) && previousMouseState.IsPressed(button); } public bool IsMouseButtonPressed(MouseButton button) { return currentMouseState.IsPressed(button) && !previousMouseState.IsPressed(button); } public bool IsMouseButtonUp(MouseButton button) { return !currentMouseState.IsPressed(button) && previousMouseState.IsPressed(button); } public bool IsMouseButtonReleased(MouseButton button) { return !currentMouseState.IsPressed(button) && previousMouseState.IsPressed(button); } I suppose I could create some custom enumeration and switch through it in each function, but I'd like to first see if there is a built-in solution or a better way.. Thanks!

  • Multiple volumetric lights

    - by notabene
    I recently read this GPU GEMS 3 article Volumetric Light Scattering as a Post-Process. I like the idea to add volumetric light property to realtime render i'm working on. Question is will it work for multiple lights? Our renderer uses one render pass per light and uses additive blending to sum incoming light. I'm mostly convinced that it have to work nice. Do you agree? Maybe there can be problem where light rays crosses each other.

  • rotate sprite and shooting bullets from the end of a cannon

    - by Alberto
    Hi all i have a problem in my Andengine code, I need , when I touch the screen, shoot a bullet from the cannon (in the same direction of the cannon) The cannon rotates perfectly but when I touch the screen the bullet is not created at the end of the turret This is my code: private void shootProjectile(final float pX, final float pY){ int offX = (int) (pX-canon.getSceneCenterCoordinates()[0]); int offY = (int) (pY-canon.getSceneCenterCoordinates()[1]); if (offX <= 0) return ; if(offY>=0) return; double X=canon.getX()+canon.getWidth()*0,5; double Y=canon.getY()+canon.getHeight()*0,5 ; final Sprite projectile; projectile = new Sprite( (float) X, (float) Y, mProjectileTextureRegion,this.getVertexBufferObjectManager() ); mMainScene.attachChild(projectile); int realX = (int) (mCamera.getWidth()+ projectile.getWidth()/2.0f); float ratio = (float) offY / (float) offX; int realY = (int) ((realX*ratio) + projectile.getY()); int offRealX = (int) (realX- projectile.getX()); int offRealY = (int) (realY- projectile.getY()); float length = (float) Math.sqrt((offRealX*offRealX)+(offRealY*offRealY)); float velocity = (float) 480.0f/1.0f; float realMoveDuration = length/velocity; MoveModifier modifier = new MoveModifier(realMoveDuration,projectile.getX(), realX, projectile.getY(), realY); projectile.registerEntityModifier(modifier); } @Override public boolean onSceneTouchEvent(Scene pScene, TouchEvent pSceneTouchEvent) { if (pSceneTouchEvent.getAction() == TouchEvent.ACTION_MOVE){ double dx = pSceneTouchEvent.getX() - canon.getSceneCenterCoordinates()[0]; double dy = pSceneTouchEvent.getY() - canon.getSceneCenterCoordinates()[1]; double Radius = Math.atan2(dy,dx); double Angle = Radius * 180 / Math.PI; canon.setRotation((float)Angle); return true; } else if (pSceneTouchEvent.getAction() == TouchEvent.ACTION_DOWN){ final float touchX = pSceneTouchEvent.getX(); final float touchY = pSceneTouchEvent.getY(); double dx = pSceneTouchEvent.getX() - canon.getSceneCenterCoordinates()[0]; double dy = pSceneTouchEvent.getY() - canon.getSceneCenterCoordinates()[1]; double Radius = Math.atan2(dy,dx); double Angle = Radius * 180 / Math.PI; canon.setRotation((float)Angle); shootProjectile(touchX, touchY); } return false; } Anyone know how to calculate the coordinates (X,Y) of the end of the barrel to draw the bullet?

  • Calculating the 2D edge normals of a triangle

    - by Kazade
    What's a reliable way to calculate a 2D normal vector for each edge of a triangle, so that each normal is pointing outwards from the triangle? To clarify, given any triangle - for each edge (e.g p2-p1), I need to calculate a 2D normal vector pointing away from the triangle at right angles to the edge (for simplicity we can assume that the points are being specified in an anti-clockwise direction). I've coded a couple of hacky attempts, but I'm sure I'm overlooking some simple method and Google isn't being that helpful today - that and I haven't had my daily caffeine yet!

  • Open Source Errors on Apple Cruch

    - by BluFire
    I've been looking around and I finally got the full source code called Apple-Crunch from google code. But when I put it into my project, the source code included so many errors in the class files such as: cannot be resolved into a type the constructor is undefined the method method() is undefined for the type Sprite class.java I downloaded the source directly from the command-line and noticed errors popping up on my project. Since i couldn't figure out how to import the actual folder into my workspace(it wouldn't show up on existing projects) I decided to copy and overwrite the folders into the project. The Errors were still there so I looked at the class files and noticed that the classes with errors extended from 'RokonActivity'. I then proceeded to add to the libs folder the rokon library in hopes to fix the errors. Sadly it didn't work and now I don't what to do to fix the errors. How do i fix the errors without having to manually change the code? The source code should be fully functional so why is there errors?

  • Stop map from scrolling but let player still move?

    - by ChocoMan
    I have a basic method of scrolling around on a map (moving the map instead of the player), but at when the player gets to a certain proximity to the edge, how do you stop the map from scrolling, but still allow the player to move around until it is away from that proximity? I'm not looking for any code. Just a suggestion so that I can implement it myself. I can see it visually (creating 4 boxed intersecting boundaries for the player to enter), but not sure how to come about stopping and resuming the scrolling of the map.

I just want to move my sprite using a joystick, since I'm useless at math when it comes to angles etc I used an example, Ill post the code here: public float initx = 50; //og 425; public float inity = 300; //og 267; public Point _touchingPoint = new Point(50, 300); //og(425, 267); public Point _pointerPosition = new Point(100, 170); private Boolean _dragging = false; private MotionEvent lastEvent; @Override public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) { if (event == null && lastEvent == null) { return _dragging; } else if (event == null && lastEvent != null) { event = lastEvent; } else { lastEvent = event; } // drag drop if (event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN) { _dragging = true; } else if (event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_UP) { _dragging = false; } if (_dragging) { // get the pos _touchingPoint.x = (int) event.getX(); _touchingPoint.y = (int) event.getY(); // bound to a box if (_touchingPoint.x < 25) { _touchingPoint.x = 25; //og 400 } if (_touchingPoint.x > 75) { _touchingPoint.x = 75; //og 450 } if (_touchingPoint.y < 275) { _touchingPoint.y = 275; //og 240 } if (_touchingPoint.y > 325) { _touchingPoint.y = 325; //og 290 } // get the angle double angle = Math.atan2(_touchingPoint.y - inity, _touchingPoint.x - initx) / (Math.PI / 180); // Move the beetle in proportion to how far // the joystick is dragged from its center _pointerPosition.y += Math.sin(angle * (Math.PI / 180)) * (_touchingPoint.x / 70); _pointerPosition.x += Math.cos(angle * (Math.PI / 180)) * (_touchingPoint.x / 70); // stop the sprite from goin thru if (_pointerPosition.x + happy.getWidth() >= getWidth()) { _pointerPosition.x = getWidth() - happy.getWidth(); } if (_pointerPosition.x < 0) { _pointerPosition.x = 0; } if (_pointerPosition.y + happy.getHeight() >= getHeight()) { _pointerPosition.y = getHeight() - happy.getHeight(); } if (_pointerPosition.y < 0) { _pointerPosition.y = 0; } } public void render(Canvas canvas) { canvas.drawColor(Color.BLUE); canvas.drawBitmap(joystick.get_joystickBg(), initx-45, inity-45, null); canvas.drawBitmap(happy, _pointerPosition.x, _pointerPosition.y, null); canvas.drawBitmap(joystick.get_joystick(), _touchingPoint.x - 26, _touchingPoint.y - 26, null); } public void update() { this.onTouchEvent(null); } og= original position. as you can see Im trying to move the joystick, but when I do it stops working correctly, I mean it still works like a joystick but the sprite dosnt move accordingly, if I for example push the joystick down, the sprite moves up, and if I push it up it moves left. can anyone PLEASE help me, I've been stuck here for sooo long and its really frustrating.

  • Seek Steering Behavior with Target Direction for Group of Fighters

    - by SebastianStehle
    I am implementing steering algorithms with group management for spaceships (fighters). I select a leader and assign the target positions for the other spaceships based on the target position of the leader and an offset. This works well. But when my spaceships arrive they all have a different direction. I want them to keep to look in the same direction (target - start). I also want to combine this behavior with a minimum turning radius that is based on the speed. The only idea I have is to calculate a path for each spaceship with an point before the target position, so the ships have some time left to turn into the right position. But I dont know if this is a good idea. I guess there will be a lot of rare cases where this can cause a problem. So the question is, if anybody knows how to solve this problem and has some (simple code) or pseudocode for me or at least some good explanation.
