• Is having several desktop environments on one account bad?

  I have gnome classic, cinnamon, unity, gnome 3, and KDE installed on my only user account because I enjoy a little change from time to time (although my favorite is gnome classic) so I installed all of these desktop environments. I heard from a friend that it could potentially cause some problems. I was also told that it would be okay if I created a separate account for each environment, but I don't want to if I don't have to. Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

• Subdomains for different applications on Windows Server 2008 R2 with Apache and IIS 7 installed

  Hi, I have a home server, on which I have installed Apache, and several other applications that have a Web GUI (JDownloader, Free Download Manager). In order to access each of these apps (whether be it from the local network or the Internet), I have to enter a different port, e.g., http:// server:8085 or http:// xxxx.dyndns.org:8085 for Apache, http:// server:90 or http:// xxxx.dyndns.org:90 for FDM, http:// server:8081 or http:// xxxx.dyndns.org:8081 for JDownloader. I would like to be able to access them using sub-domains, e.g, http:// apache.server or http:// apache.xxxx.dyndns.org for Apache, http:// fdm.server or http:// fdm.xxxx.dyndns.org for FDM, http:// jdownloader.server or http:// jdownloader.xxxx.dyndns.org for JDownloader. First of all, would it be possible like I want it, i.e., both from LAN and Internet, and if yes, how? • OpenWorld Day 1

  A Day in the Life of an OpenWorld Attendee Part I Lots of people are blogging insightfully about OpenWorld so I thought I would provide some non-insightful remarks to buck the trend! With 50,000 attendees I didn’t expect to bump into too many people I knew, boy was I wrong!  I walked into the registration area and immediately was hailed by a couple of customers I had worked with a few months ago.  Moving to the employee registration area in a different hall I bumped into a colleague from the UK who was also registering.  As soon as I got my badge I bumped into a friend from Ireland!  So maybe OpenWorld isn’t so big after all! First port of call was Larrys Keynote.  As always Larry was provocative and thought provoking.  His key points were announcing the Oracle cloud offering in IaaS, PaaS and SaaS, pointing out that Fusion Apps are cloud enabled and finally announcing the 12c Database, making a big play of its new multi-tenancy features.  His contention was that multi-tenancy will simplify cloud development and provide better security by providing DB level isolation for applications and customers. Next day, Monday, was my first full day at OpenWorld.  The first session I attended was on monitoring of OSB, very interesting presentation on the benefits achieved by an Illinois area telco – US Cellular.  Great discussion of why they bought the SOA Management Packs and the benefits they are already seeing from their investment in terms of improved provisioning and time to market, as well as better performance insight and assistance with capacity planning. Craig Blitz provided a nice walkthrough of where Coherence has been and where it is going. Last night I attended the BOF on Managed File Transfer where Dave Berry replayed Oracles thoughts on providing dedicated Managed File Transfer as part of the 12c SOA release.  Dave laid out the perceived requirements and solicited feedback from the audience on what if anything was missing.  He also demoed an early version of the functionality that would simplify setting up MFT in SOA Suite and make tracking activity much easier. So much for Day 1.  I also ran into scores of old friends and colleagues and had a pleasant dinner with my friend from Ireland where I caught up on the latest news from Oracle UK.  Not bad for Day 1!

  My friend wants to become a web developer. However, he doesn't know how to start if he is going to become ASP.NET developer. He found a book which is titled ' Beginning ASP.NET 4: in C# and VB (Wrox Programmer to Programmer) by Imar Spaanjaars' but he is not sure if this will be right start or not because he has know knowledge in OOP programming and whether he has to learn C# first and read such book or is it OK to start with such that book assuming that the book will teach some fundamentals in C#!

  I only installed Ubuntu a couple of weeks ago but my friend showed me how to use aircrack.Anyways, he said that i needed to install a special driver for it and while i was trying to install it the instruction told me to uninstal the previous driver but the installation of the new driver didnt work, so now im stuck with no wireless drivers on my netbook.But, when i boot into windows it works fine,any tips? Btw,i'm using an ar2427 wireless adapter on an asus eee pc 1001pq,please reply.

• Can Flash games packed for iOS and other mobile devices achieve reasonable performance?

  I was thinking of developing a game in Flash, as a hobby/educational project. However, I was hoping I could make it run on a smartphone, but a friend who develops in Flash says that in their experience things will move really slow on the likes of an iPad when the Flash packager is used. So slowly that you can't use it commercially for fast-moving games. Has anyone else experienced this slowness? Is there a way around it or is the technology just not there yet?

  last days i spent my week @ firozabadthe town is much small and near to agraso i never forget to see the taj mahal and red fort their even it’s first chance to see them.i make a plan that i go to Agra last Saturday. firstly i go to red fort and i talking with many foreigner and they love to talking with me because their is only one man who with with them who is their GUIDE a person like a  book they never can talk with you but tell you about everything of the location because you buy them. their are many person come from various country such as German , Japan,  Russ , Italy and many other. their is no problem to talk with them perhaps they happen with talk to me. when i completely watch the Red fort at least i see a girl who are look like a foreigner. i talk themselves where they come from they tell me Francewhen i go elsewhere i thing to propose them to be  a friend of mine. i never propose any girl for friendship with me even in school and college. so i propose them to be a friend of mine.  they accept it i put the email ID in their hand whenever they gone. but i still not get their mail. 2ndly i go to Taj mahal the taj experience is not so good i spent 3 or 4 hours in rush. i found their is no security even their are many army force. they all person are too slow to work. they spent 10 minute to check  a person for security . their hands work very slow just like a low configuration computer. i talk many person their too. i talk to a person who tell themselves Jacob and they from Chicago. they speak very fast and i not know what they tell in speech. a another problem i got with some Chinese person. when i talking with them that i found they speak only Chinese language. • PivotViewer demo for photographers

• Autotesting a network interface

  Hi All, I'm developing a software component responsible for testing if a network interface has conectivity with the internet. Think of it as the same test the XBOX360 does to inform the user if it's connected with the Live network (just as an example). So far I figured the autotest would run as this: 1) Test the physical network interface (if the cable is conected, has up/downlink, etc...) 2) Test the logical network (has IP address, has DNS, etc...) 3) Connects to the internet (can access google, for example) 4) ??? 5) Profit! (just kidding...) My question relates to step 3: How can I detect, correctly, if my software has connection with the internet ? Is there any fixed IP address to ping ? The problem is that I don't want to rely solely on google.com (or any other well-known address), as those can change in time, and my component will be embbeded on a mobile device, not easy to update. Any suggestions ?

• Make it so you can't stop command with CTRL+C

  So, I was playing some Zork 1, and I went to copy some text to show a friend of mine I accidentally forgot to hold the shift key when pressing CTRL+C. This stopped the command and I lost my Zork data, is there some sort of "helpful" tip out their that I can to prevent from stopping the command when press the keys CTRL+C? • Wordpress + VMware CSS path problem

  I posted a similar question earlier today but this question is clearer. I want to locally develop my Wordpress websites (on my Mac) and test them in Internet Explorer (6,7,8) on Windows XP. I can get the MAMP welcome screen to show in Windows XP, so I know VMWare is doing it's thing. The local URL for my site (on my Mac) is: URL (http://d3creative:8888/) But the local URL under VMware/Internet Explorer is: URL (http://192.168.2.1:8888/d3creative/) This is the only way I can get it to show up, problem is all the CSS styles are referencing the local Mac URL (http://d3creative:8888/) So understandably the CSS isn't showing up. Is there a way to tell Windows that "http://192.168.2.1:8888/d3creative/" should equal "http://d3creative:8888/" I've tried editing the "hosts" file within in Windows XP and I've rebooted after making any changes, but nothing is working. My software: MAMP Pro (v1.8.2) Wordpress (v2.8.6) Windows XP (SP3) Internet Explorer (6, 7, 8) Any help would be much appreciated. Stephen Meehan

• Should main method be only consists of object creations and method calls?

  A friend of mine told me that, the best practice is class containing main method should be named Main and only contains main method. Also main method should only parse inputs, create other objects and call other methods. The Main class and main method shouldn't do anything else. Basically what he is saying that class containing main method should be like: public class Main { public static void main(String[] args) { //parse inputs //create other objects //call methods } } Is it the best practice?

• convert HTML to PDF with dynamic image using PD4ML

  We are using PD4ML library to convert HTML to PDF. Is there any way with which I can include a image from the internet in my HTML to convert it into PDF. I am having problem in getting the image into PDF. I tried using base parameter in the PD4ML library but that didn't worked out. May be I am doing something wrong or PD4ML doesn't support including image from the internet. Because when I discussed my problem with other colleagues, found out that when we use the image from local server it gets to the PDF but image from internet don't. I am bound to use PD4ML, so solution with PD4ML only will be highly appreciated.

  Hi, I'm having an issue verifying if a checkbox is checked using jquery on Internet Explorer. This is the code I'm using: if ($('#chkjq_1').attr('checked') == true) It works fine on Firefox or Chrome, but on Internet Explorer 7, the condition is always false because the browser sets the property this way: <input id="chkjq_1" type="checkbox" CHECKED/> IE7 And the right way is the following: (Firefox, Chrome): <input id="chkjq_1" type="checkbox" checked="checked"/> FF, Chrome, etc What should I do to avoid this issue on Internet Explorer 7; is there a generic way in jquery to solve this? • How to cache and store objects and set an expire policy in android?

  I have an app fetch data from internet, for better performance and bandwidth, I need to implement a cache layer. There are two different data coming from the internet, one is changing every one hour and another one does not change basically. So for the first type of data, I need to implement an expire policy to make it self deleted after it was created for 1 hour, and when user request that data, I will check the storage first and then goto internet if nothing found. I thought about using a SharedPrefrence or SQLDatabase to store the json data or serialized object string. My question is: 1) What should I use, SharedPrefrence or SQLDatabase or anything else, a piece of data is not big but there are maybe many instances of that data. 2) How to implement that expire system.

• How to install ubuntu ultimate edition using Wubi?

  I had some trouble installing Ubuntu Ultimate Edition 2.9 on my friend's computer using Wubi. Wubi just doesn't accept installation and gives only 2 options - 'Demo & Install' and 'Learn more'. Tried searching the internet for a solution but couldn't find anything. Is it Wubi's fault or is it not designed to give support for UE? If latter, what is the alternative to it (without actually giving Ubuntu UE a seperate partition).
