• Hosting and scaling of a facebook application on cloud?

  We would be building a facebook application in django(Python), but still not sure of where to host it economically,and with a good provision to scale in case the app gets viral. Some details about the app: i) Would be HTML based like a website,using django as a framework. ii) 100K is the number of expected pageviews in a day,if the app is viral. iii) The users will not generate any media content,only some database data will be generated by them. It would be great if someone with more experience can guide on following points: A) Hosting on google app engine or Amazon EC2 or some other cloud like RackSpace : Preferable points found in AppEngine were ease of deployment,cost effectiveness and easy scaling. For EC2: Full hold of the virtual machine,Amazon NoSQL and RDMBS database services in case we decide to use them. B) Does backend technology affect monthly cost ? eg. would CPU and memory usage difference of Django over , for example , PHP framework like CodeIgnitor really make remarkable difference in running costs. • How to host an AP or a hotspot?

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 as a virtual machine on my Mac. Since I am unable to get the virtual machine to have full access to my WiFi card, I bought another USB WiFi card to use. This is my WiFi card. If you are unfamiliar with Virtual machine, as far as I know, since the Ubuntu has its own card now, it shouldn't matter. I have followed these guides with no luck: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessAccessPoint http://www.danbishop.org/2011/12/11/using-hostapd-to-add-wireless-access-point-capabilities-to-an-ubuntu-server/ The problem is that the WiFi connection appears on all of the machines that I have in my house: 2 iPhones, Dell machine running Ubuntu and two Macbooks. However the connection times out on all of these machines. Questions: Could this be a driver issue if that same WiFi card can connect to other WiFi points and use its internet Could this be DHCP related? I would think not. It should at least get a 169.X.X.X address? No? Any solutions for me?

• Problems to boot, Ubuntu entry does not work anymore

  A few months I decided to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my PC alongside with my Windows 7 partition. In order to do that and avoid any mistake, I followed these steps: http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/05/17/how-to-dual-boot-ubuntu-12-04-and-windows-7/2/ Everything was going well until I decided to update to the 12.10 realese. I don't know what happened, but after I updated my Ubuntu, it stoped working, it didn't even launched, when I turned on my pc and choose to run "Ubuntu 12.04" on the Grub Screen, a weird messaged appeared. Well, so I decided to install the Ubuntu 12.10 and forget about the 12.04 partition, no problem. I erased the partitions used for the Ubuntu 12.04 with EaseUS partition Manager. However, when I start my PC, there is still the option of "Ubuntu 12.04" to chose, is that bad? And what about now, can I use the Windows Installer of Ubuntu ( http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/install-ubuntu-with-windows ) to install the Ubuntu 12.10 ? What should I do to have Ubuntu 12.10 and Windows 7 in dual boot again? Thanks; Thales.

• Installing Paperclip - "undefined method `has_attached_file` for" - Ruby on Rails

  I just installed the plugin for Paperclip and I am getting an error message "undefined method has_attached_file for. Not sure why I am getting this. Here is the full error message. NoMethodError (undefined method `has_attached_file' for #<Class:0x10338acd0>): /Users/bgadoci/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/will_paginate-2.3.12/lib/will_paginate/finder.rb:170:in `method_missing' app/models/post.rb:2 app/controllers/posts_controller.rb:50:in `show' For some reason it is referencing the will_paginate gem. From what I can find, it seems that either there is something wrong w/ my PostsController#index or perhaps a previously attempt at installing the gem instead of the plugin (in which case I have read I should be able to remedy through the /config/environments.rb file somehow). I didn't think that previous gem installation would matter as I did it in an old version of the site that I trashed before installing the plugin. In the current version of the site I show that the Table has been updated with the Paperclip columns after migration. I want to be able to update a user's status, but at the moment I'm unable to interact with LinkedIn's API at all. • How to populate a core data store programmatically?

  I have ran out of hairs to pull with a crash in this routine that populates a core data store from a 9000+ line plist file. The crash happened at the very end of the routine inside the call to [managedObjectContext save:&error]. While if I save after every object insertion, the crash doesn't happen. Of course, saving after every object insertion totally kills the performance (from less than a second to many minutes). I modified my code so that it saves every K insertions, and the crash happens as soon as K = 2. The crash is an out-of-bound exception for an NSArray: Serious application error. Exception was caught during Core Data change processing: *** -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (1) beyond bounds (1) with userInfo (null) Also maybe relevant, when the exception happen, my fetch result controller controllerDidChangeContent: delegate routine is in the call stack. The time this happend, addEntityForType was called all the way through, creating a new object for the "whereTasted" entity, before the final save: on the entire wine object. When I go through the same procedure again, it works fine. This leads me to believe it's something to do with the app having been run for a while when adding a new location, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts on how I can debug this and get more info the next time this happens?

  I have a new Fedora 12 server that I am attempting to set up Mercurial on. I have yum installed mercurial, and most things seem to work fine. However, after setting up hgwebdir.cgi through apache, I am unable to do an hg push to the only repo currently being hosted. If I set the the default value in the [paths] section of the clones hgrc file to the local filepath on the server, the push works fine, but if I switch it to use the url, I get the error every time. Some possible quirks in how I've set this up... hgwebdir.cgi is sitting in /var/www/cgi-bin and the repo is a child of /opt/hg. I turned off suexec as well, and this doesn't seem to clear up the issue. The only line I added in the apache config to get hgwebdir running is: ScriptAlias /hg "/var/www/cgi-bin/hgwebdir.cgi" The hgweb.config is also in /var/www/cgi-bin and it's contents are: [collections] /opt/hg = /opt/hg [trusted] users = * [web] baseurl = /hg push_ssl = false allow_push = * The repo browser is working fine, it's just push that doesn't work. Apache error_log doesn't have anything in about this error at all.

some garbage(?), however the end contains the the lock which seems be holding the main thread. Can I trust this stack trace? If not, what can cause this and how I can avoid it? Any ideas about the dead lock based on this stack trace? I don't quite understand how creating a datamodule can dead lock.. I'm using Delphi 2007.
