• Accessing an object's fields without an active session

  I'm using Hibernate 4.0.1.Final. Is it possible to access an object's fields if that object has been loaded via the org.hibernate.Session.load(Class clazz, Serializable id) method and there is no active session? • Dropdownlist and Datareader

  After trying many solutions listed on the internet I am very confused now. I have a C#/SQL web application for which I am simply trying to bind an ExecuteReader command to a Dropdownlist so the user can select a value. This is a VS2008 project on an XP OS. How it works is after the user selects a table, I use this selection as an input parameter to a method from my Datamatch.aspx.cs file. Then this Datamatch.aspx.cs file calls a method from my ADONET.cs class file. Finally this method executes a SQL procedure to return the list of columns from that table. (These are all tables in Adventureworks DB). I know that this method returns successfully the list of columns if I execute this SP in SSMS. However, I'm not sure how to tell if it works in VS or not. This should be simple. How can I do this? Here is some of my code. • Why do Programmers Love/Hate Objective-C?

  So I have noticed that there is a lot of animosity towards Objective-C among programmers. What's your take? Is it a vendor lock-in thing against Apple? General antipathy towards Apple? The syntax? What's your view on this? With the advent of the iPhone SDK, Obj-C has gotten a lot more attention lately, and I am curious what people on SO's opinions are. I personally fought the syntax at first but have gotten more and more used to it now. I really like the named arguments. I have some pet peeves with how things are done in Obj-C vs other languages, but I will refrain from comment on them here.

• How can i do this using a Python Regex?

  I am trying to properly extract methods definitions that are generated by comtypes for Com Interfaces using a regex. Furthermore some of them are blank which causes even more problems for me. • Disassemble Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 compiler output

  I'm seeing what I think is strange behaviour from object files output by the Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 tools. The file utility tells me: asmfile.obj: 80386 COFF executable not stripped - version 30821 For objects created by the assembler, but for objects coming from C files, I get just: cfile.obj: data Using Microsoft's dumpbin utility and the objdump I got from cygwin, I can disassemble the assembly-built file, but I get no useful results from either utility for the C-built files. I have a couple of questions related to this difference: What is the object file format generated by the MSVC2003 compiler? How can I disassemble that object file? I am particularly interested in getting the disassembly in AT&T syntax - I'm doing a port of a large source base to make it work with GCC, and I would like to use this method as a shortcut for some of the inline assembly routines in the project. It would be nice to simply call... MyList l1 = new MyList() { new MyListItem(1), new MyListItem(2) }; MyList l2 = new MyList() { new MyListItem(1), new MyListItem(2) }; if (l1 == l2) { ... } ...and have the comparisons of the list done by value. What's the best way...?

• Reflecting derived classes in C#

  Let's assume there's a class with a virtual property (let's call it 'P'). It's overridden in a deriving class. Now I want to use something like this: obj.GetType().GetProperty("P") to get info about the overriding property. This search is ambigous, because there are two "P" properties (base and override). So I typed: obj.GetType().GetProperty("P", BindingFlags.DeclaredOnly | BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Instance) It returns the overriding "P" only, but what if I can't guess in compile time if there's an override at all? The latter call would return null. The case is even more complicated, if the hierarchy of inheritance is bigger. In other words, I want to get the 'top-most' override available, otherwise - the base property. What is the cleanest way to achieve the aim? Only one I know at the moment is to go through all properties and check name and declaring type.

• "Phased" execution of functions in javascript

This is my first post on stackoverflow, so please don't flame me too hard if I come across like a total nitwit or if I'm unable ot make myself perfectly clear. :-) Here's my problem: I'm trying to write a javascript function that "ties" two functions to another by checking the first one's completion and then executing the second one. The easy solution to this obviously would be to write a meta function that calls both functions within it's scope. However, if the first function is asynchronous (specifically an AJAX call) and the second function requires the first one's result data, that simply won't work. My idea for a solution was to give the first function a "flag", i.e. making it create a public property "this.trigger" (initialized as "0", set to "1" upon completion) once it is called; doing that should make it possible for another function to check the flag for its value ([0,1]). If the condition is met ("trigger == 1") the second function should get called. The use case is simple: for logging purposes, I want to determine the underlying type name of an entity that might be wrapped by a dynamic proxy without having any references to NHibernate or Castle (which know about the proxy) For example, I might have a CatProxYadaYada, but I'm interested in Cat. • Multiple MCs, Single Listener, AsBroadcaster

  I'm currently working trying to have multiple MCs inside a container MC which when they mini MCs are clicked will broadcast a message so that I can act upon them. This would be simple in AS 3 as it would be mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, obj); however, this is AS 2 and so I am semi-forced to use the broadcastMessage('myMessage'); and mc.addListener(obj); event handler. The main problem is that the broadcaster isn't broadcasting any messages. The second problem is that there are 5 MCs and when I click one of them, I get 5 trace messages about the click. I can't seem to keep the MC clicks unique even though they are all given separate instance names vie the properties panel. Any help would be appreciated. • Why does python use 'magic methods'?

  I've been playing around with Python recently, and one thing I'm finding a bit odd is the extensive use of 'magic methods', e.g. to make its length available an object implements a method def __len__(self) and then it is called when you write len(obj). I was just wondering why objects don't simply define a len(self) method and have it called directly as a member of the object, e.g. obj.len()? I'm sure there must be good reasons for Python doing it the way it does, but as a newbie I haven't worked out what they are yet.

• Does NSArray:lastObject return an autoreleased object?

  I'm working on an iPhone project where I would like to retrieve an object from an NSMutableArray, remove the object from the array and then use it later. The code looks something like this: NSMutableArray * array; // fill the array NSObject * obj = [array lastObject]; [array removeLastObject]; // do something with obj (in the same function) array is the only entity with a retain on the object that is being accessed. Is this safe to do? I would assume that this would only work if lastObject autoreleased the object which is something that I can't figure out if it does.

But the CompareTo-Method is marked as private and thus not accessible from the test. What's the reason for this and how can I fix this? • How to hide GetType() method from COM?

  I made an automation Add-In for Excel, and I made several functions (formulas). I have a class which header looks like this (it is COM visible): [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.AutoDual)] [ComVisible(true)] public class Functions {} In a list of methods, I see: ToString(), Equals(), GetHashCode() and GetType() methods. Since all methods of my class are COM visible, I should somehow hide those 4. I succeeded with 3 of them: ToString(), Equals(), GetHashCode() but GetType() cannot be overriden. • JavaScript-like Object in Python standard library?

  Quite often, I find myself wanting a simple, "dump" object in Python which behaves like a JavaScript object (ie, its members can be accessed either with .member or with ['member']). Usually I'll just stick this at the top of the .py: class DumbObject(dict): def __getattr__(self, attr): return self[attr] def __stattr__(self, attr, value): self[attr] = value But that's kind of lame, and there is at least one bug with that implementation (although I can't remember what it is). So, is there something similar in the standard library? • weakref list in python

  I'm in need of a list of weak references that deletes items when they die. Currently the only way I have of doing this is to keep flushing the list (removing dead references manually). I'm aware there's a WeakKeyDictionary and a WeakValueDictionary, but I'm really after a WeakList, is there a way of doing this?   I have been trying to use JSON to store settings for a program. I can't seem to get Python 2.6 's JSON Decoder to decode multi-line JSON strings... Here is example input: .settings file: """ {\ 'user':'username',\ 'password':'passwd',\ }\ """ I have tried a couple other syntaxes for this file, which I will specify below (with the traceback they cause).   Why can't I use super to get a method of a class's superclass? According to super's documentation, it seems like what I want should be possible.   Hi StackOverflow, Can someone tell me the correct way of passing multiple vectors to a function that can take only a single argument? (specifically for pthread_create (..) function) I tried the following but it does not seem to work :-( First, I created the following structure struct ip2 { void* obj; int dim; int n_s; vector<vector<vector<double> > > *wlist; vector<int> *nrsv; struct model *pModel; }; The threads that I have created actually needs all these parameters.   I'm having a problem with the Scripting Bridge framework in 10.5.
