• Weird mouse/keyboard freezups when using PowerPoint 2007 with IBM/Lenovo docking station

  I'm not sure what part of my system is responsible for this, but when using PowerPoint, I have problems when trying to resize drawing objects. I'll be dragging the handle and suddenly, the object will deselect and whatever is behind the object will select and start moving around. Next thing I know, the keyboard won't type anymore, and the only way to fix it is to unplug the USB and plug it back in. In case it's hardware related, I'm using an IMB Thinkpad T60P in a docking station. My keyboard is a Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro. My OS is Windows XP SP3. I've never noticed this happening in anything besides PowerPoint, and I don't know anyone else who has this problem (even people with similar setups). Any ideas what it could be? Edit Well, it looks like I only get the problem if I plug the mouse into my docking station's USB. If I plug directly into the laptop's USB, everything works fine. And, again, this problem is only with PowerPoint. I tried playing with some drawing objects in Word and had no issue no matter where my mouse was plugged in. I should also mention I tried a different mouse (a standard Microsoft corded mouse instead of my Logitech trackball), but that made no difference. So, I don't think it's anything specific with the trackball or the trackball's driver. I tried searching Google but came up empty, so I'm guessing this problem is something unique to my setup. If you have any thoughts or ideas to try, I'd love to hear them.

It can be very tricky and hairy that you'd write a data with size of folds of 512, at the disk position of folds of 512bytes... So, If you wanto write just a byte or 4 bytes, you'v to write at least a whole sector one time. Read and write data from and into files located in SSD... Read and Write data from and into files in mechanical Disk I compared the pratices below...I found ssd sucks...the ssd performs worse than mechanical disk... so i am wondering where i can get the potential performance of ssd, since ssd is said to a substitute for mechanical disk in the future.. Nevertheless, I test ssd with a pro-hard-disk tools..ssd is like twice speedier than mechanical disk. So, why?

• Install Linux Mint on PC without bootable CD

  Unfortunately my PC's CD drive is not bootable; I have such a mixture of SATA and IDE drives, so until I have more money to redo my controller setup, I can't boot from any cd. Currently, I have a DVD burned with latest version of Linux Mint, and I have an USB drive with an old version of Mint. I have a partition ready to install Linx Mint into, but no idea how to install it, since I can only boot to my hard drive. I am totally unable to boot to CD, so that is definitely out. My main partition is WinXP Pro SP3. Is there software I can use to format my Linux partition, so that I can then just copy Mint over to that partition? Or is there a better way to install linux mint? I have to do it within Windows XP, since that's all that I can boot right now. I have considered Mint4Win, but that doesn't allow a full installation of Linux Mint. Any ideas?

• How to back up non-standard directories in my user profile with Windows Backup?

  I'm using Windows Backup to back up my Win7 Pro laptop. I'd like to use it to back up my complete user profile, but I only see standard profile directories (e.g. C:\Users\JohnstonJ\Documents) in the list. Non-standard ones aren't there (e.g. C:\Users\JohnstonJ\MyCustomDirectory). What's the best way to handle this? The only thing I can think of is to browse under the "Computer" entry and navigate directly to C:\Users\JohnstonJ and check off the entire profile (to get what's in there, and any new directories that come up). But is that going to back up the profile twice? Cause other unforeseen problems given that I checked it off by navigating through the computer, rather than picking it under the "Data Files" category? (e.g. back up temporary file garbage, files in use problems, etc. that the "Data Files" category might be handling better). Looking for solutions that other people use that are known to work well and still uses the Windows Backup software - I don't really want to fuss with 3rd-party backup software. • Creating fillable, saveable PDF in OpenOffice.org results in garbage

  I've been creating beautiful fillable PDFs using OOo Writer under Ubuntu for a few years. However, I've recently been asked to make them saveable rather than just printable. So, I go to my colleague's Windows computer which has Adobe Acrobat Professional 8, and following directions outlined in Save filled form in PDF file in Ubuntu. I end up with an unreadable, unfillable document. Acrobat Reader opens it, but it's garbage. It looks like it might be a character encoding issue. The document was created using Arial under Ubuntu. I installed OOo on the Windows box and changed the font to Tahoma. But with either font, the resulting file is a jumble of boxes and oddly placed random characters. Given that it fails with a fairly ubiquitous font, and a Microsoft specific font, I'm guessing it's not a font issue. Until I enable the rights, the PDF is readable both with Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Pro. Anyone else encounter the problem? If so, did you solve it? Thanks.

• MySQL socket connections working, but not port connections

  I installed MySQL community 5.1.45 on my Snow Leopard 10.6, using the pkg from their site. I had previously installed a MySQL binary from entropy.ch. In the previous installation, the connections were working fine before I upgrade to Snow Leopard. In Snow Leopard, both the installations are problematic. Using an app called Sequel Pro, if I connect with the socket operation, it connects properly. However, a standard connection with the same credentials doesn't work. From what I've understood, socket connections happen on the machine itself between processes, whereas normal connections occur over the network/ports, in this case a loopback to my machine, since the server and client are both on the same machine. My new CakePHP installation isn't being able to connect to the db with the root credentials I provided. Btw, I've been starting the MySQL server using the Preference Pane. • VMWare Fusion: "No Permission to access this virtual machine"

  I had a VMWare Fusion VM backed up on my home network file server (Ubuntu). I wanted to run it again, so I copied it back to my Macbook. When I tried to launch it in VMWare, I got an error message: No permission to access this virtual machine. Configuration file: /Users/craig/WinXP Clean + Scanner.vmwarevm/WinXP Pro Test.vmx The permissions look fine to me: The bundle directory is 777 The bundle files (including the listed .vmx) are all 666 User is craig (my current user); group is staff. I changed the group to wheel at the suggestion of this page, but that didn't help. Finder shows read & write for craig, staff, and everyone on the bundle directory The bundle dir is also not locked Finder also shows rw and unlocked for the .vmx file The parent directory is also rw & unlocked Disk Utility permissions check doesn't show any problems with any of the associated files It sure looks like I should have wide open access to run this VM; why is Fusion complaining?

• Disabling mouse acceleration in Mac OS X

  I've been looking for a solution to the unusable mouse problem in Mac OS X for ages. I've tried a gazillion programs and fiddled with every setting there is or there can be added. So far, I haven't found a way to get linear mouse response in Mac OS X. At this point I'm seriously considering installing another operating system. But before I do that, or go hacking around OS binaries, maybe someone here has a solution? I want linear mouse response. I want high sensitivity. I like my touchpad acceleration and would like to keep it if possible. Any ideas? P.S. I've been at this for a long time, I'll probably have already tried the most popular answers. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.5 on a MacBook Pro. I don't use a particular brand of mouse. I'm not looking for any commercial solutions. I've tried: Mouse Acceleration Preferences Pane, the Snow Leopard version of which can get me close to a linear response, but at the cost of tracking speed (sensitivity). • How do I fix this Windows 7 wireless connectivity issue?

  I have a laptop with an Intel Wireless Centrino 6300 module. Recently, the machine has stopped properly connecting to my wireless router. It will get stuck in a loop of connecting, then disconnecting and reconnecting. While connected, it will simply say "No Internet Access." Running inSSIDer 2.0, it shows my network jumping around between two channels -- I know this isn't the case, because I've set my router to sit on one single channel. My MacBook Pro, Boxee Box, PS3, and Xbox 360 all connect fine to the wireless and have no problems at all. I know it's not the wireless module, as I bought a second one recently assuming the first had died -- but I get the same behavior with both. Sometimes, I can fix the issue temporarily by deleting the network (Using the Manage Wireless Networks page), and then re-adding it (via standard wireless methods). Then it will work for a few days. But inevitably the problem comes back, and now the laptop simply won't connect to the wireless at all, even if I take steps that usually work. Since I've ruled out the hardware, and it's unlikely some kind of interference issue (because I would expect to see it on any multitude of other devices), I would think at this point that it's a problem with Windows itself. One thing that might be a hint, even though I delete the network, when I add it again, it's always listed as "Wireless Network Connection 2" even though there isn't another in the list.

• Maximum RAM on Biostar P4M8PM7 Socket775 mATX board

  I have a server with a Biostar P4M8PM7 ("Pro-M7") board based on a VIA chipset. It's a strange board to put in a server because it seems like more of a desktop board to me, but alas! It takes DDR2-667 (PC5300) RAM. What I can't figure out is the maximum amount I can put in it, as I cannot find the manual anywhere online. I've found a few marketing broadsheets from online retailers that say, "up to 2 GB of RAM!" but I am not sure whether to believe them. They also do not seem to be quite for the same board, as they indicate DDR2 400/533 RAM, for example: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=P4M8P-M7. The manufacturer's web site says the same thing, but does not elaborate. It's a 64-bit CPU and board; is there a technical reason why the board would not be able to address more than 2 GB? Can someone tell me what sort of that reason that would be? I bought this server from someone really hoping I could put 8 to 16 in it, and wanted to do some research before I gave up. On a related note, it's not indicated anywhere whether it can take ECC RAM; the existing chips are not ECC, but most memory sold in the range I'm looking for (e.g. DIMMs with enough chip density to do 8 GB) seems to be server-class and for that reason ECC. • Should I upgrade to Symantec Endpoint Protection? [closed]

  I'm the IT manager at an animal shelter in Upstate New York. We have a Windows network with about 50 desktops running Windows XP Pro. We used to use CA eTrust Antivirus, but that product didn't work too well (too many infections got through). About six months ago, we switched to using Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition ver. 10.1.8.8000. If anything, the Symantec product is even worse. The last six weeks in particular have been very bad -- we've had about seven or eight PCs get hit with those malware infections that masquerade as antivirus software. In most of those cases, Symantec didn't even flag the malware at all. So... what gives with the Symantec Antivirus? As far as I can tell, it's installed correctly and downloading updated definitions nightly. I can upgrade to Symantec Endpoint Protection for $220 (we get non-profit pricing), but I don't want to do it if it's not going to be significantly better. Any advice? Should I switch to something else entirely? Thanks!

• Apache2 refuses to process php files - "Snow Leopard" OSX 10.6.4

  I have a macbook pro i5. my understanding is that by default it should be able to serve php5. i have uncommented the relevant line in /etc/apache2/httpd.conf LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so I have restarted apache with sudo apachectl -k restart and when i try to access a file with a php extension, Apache prompts me to download the file. i.e. instead of processing the php and sending me html, it thinks i want to download the file.... when i look in apache error log i see this [Fri Nov 12 10:16:14 2010] [notice] Apache/2.2.14 (Unix) PHP/5.3.2 mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8l DAV/2 mod_wsgi/3.2 Python/2.6.1 configured -- resuming normal operations so it looks like php5 is loading properly. • Windows 7, network connection with no default gateway: any way to change the "Unknown network" statu

  Hi, I have a computer running Windows 7 Pro RTM. This computer has two network connections: A Wi-fi connection to the Internet (through a home router) which works just fine. An OpenVPN virtual network connection. More precisely, this is a virtual Ethernet connection which behaves exactly like a physical Ethernet wired connection. My problem is that the "Network and sharing center" shows "Unknown network" for the OpenVPN connection. After some research I found that logical networks (outside a domain) are identified by the MAC address of the default gateway of the connection. Problem is, the OpenVPN connection has no default gateway: it is a private network, so I don't need one... Consequently, the "Unknown network" is always considered public, so the firewall is always in "public mode", which I don't want. Plus, I can't rename "Unknown connection" or anything (which makes sense), so it is kinda ugly. My goal is to define a proper logical network for the OpenVPN connection with the private profile. I know of some workarounds (disable the firewall, modify security policy to make all unknown networks "private") but they're still workarounds. I just want my clients to connect to the VPN without having to disable their firewall settings, without changing global configuration with potential side-effects (the "security policy" solution) and without having to look at an ugly "Unknown connection" in the Network and sharing center. Is there any way I can do this? I tried to check what was going on in the registry (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList is interesting), but I still didn't find a way to "force" the OpenVPN connection to be assigned to a logical network. • Printer deployment via Group Policy not working on a single system

  One of my coworkers just got a new laptop running Windows 7 Pro x64. We use a GPO to deploy the printers to every system, but for some reason it is not working on this system. I have been breaking my head over this for the past 3 hours now without any result. The strange thing is that gpresult /H seems to indicate that the GPO did run.   We are hosting a VPS on a popular host and are experiencing a regular time drift of several minutes a day forward (approx 7). Linux Kernel: 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5 GNU/Linux Distro: CentOS release 5.4 (Final) We reached out to our hosting provider and their support advised us " This is a known issue with Cloud Servers. To fix this you will need to add one line to your grub config located at: /boot/grub/menu.lst The line you need to add is: noapic nolapic divider=10 nolapic_timer This should correct this issue. You will need to restart after this is added in. " Because I am wary of manipulating grub, mostly I'm terrified that our server may fail to restart - I ask you guys, the pro *nix admins - where exactly in this file does the recommended insertion below: # line from 1&1 for time syncing issue (Case 5163) noapic nolapic divider=10 nolapic_timer go? Please specify where exactly, and whether the order of commands is or is not important. Why is the block below "title CentOS ..." indented? If someone could give me an overview of how this works or point me to a resource that's easy to follow, that's what I'm looking for immediately, a light overview or basic understanding of what I;m doing. If GRUB and bootloaders are a deep dark treasure trove of kernel hacking or something, that's great well-recommended in-depth resources are also very welcome. • Computer speakers receive radio station signal

  I have a set of Logitech 5.1 speakers where each speaker and the source plug into the subwoofer. I'm using a Griffin Firewave with output from my MacBook Pro, and output from my custom-built desktop with a switch in the middle (built it myself out of an old Belkin A/B parallel switch). Recently, I've noticed that I can hear a local Punjabi radio station being picked up by my speakers, and the volume of this interference increases as I increase the volume of the speakers. I'm fairly sure that this radio station is at the low-end of the FM spectrum, below 90MHz (or it may be at the high end, above 105MHz, my memory isn't infallible). It gets quite annoying as I can't put my audio very loud without the interference. I've tried to put a ferrite core on the input cable just before the 3.5mm jacks plug into the subwoofer. I don't know if putting the same core around all three of the cables (green, black, orange) would negate the effects, but I'm assuming not. There has been no change. Is there any reason why this would be happening? I'm assuming the interference is coming somewhere between the FireWave and the subwoofer, because the noise gets amplified with volume increases. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd be grateful!

• How to completely disable laptop sound?

  I have a HP Pavillion DV7 laptop with win 8 pro. The laptop has an unidentified problem with sound drivers or hardware that sometimes causes volume to constantly jiggle up and down. This is very annoying because of these consequences: Renders mute unusable - as the volume changes the sound unmutes automatically Causes an annoying win 8 "surface UI" notification to appear constantly in the upper left corner, which is distracting enough by itself, but more importantly Renders the whole "surface UI" unusable, because it loses focus whenever the sound changing notification appears When the jiggling happens, the laptop also loses the ability to redirect sound to earphones - sound comes out of the speakers even if earphones are connected. To solve these issues I want to completely disable sound in the laptop (I've tried reinstalling drivers several times to no end). I have tried disabling all sound related drivers and devices in the Device Manager but Windows re-enables those automatically whenever I restart the laptop. The BIOS doesn't have any settings to disable sound hardware either. Please don't suggest having the laptop sound serviced or fixed. It's not worth the expense. I just want to remove sound support so I can use it normally. It is very unusable as it is now.

• Ballooning Mac OS X kernel_task and Wired memory usage. How to diagnose / fix?

  I have a very strange issue, which I'm having a hard time diagnosing as to the root cause. I have a Mac Pro (2008, 8-core 2.8 GHz, 8800GT) with 14 GB of RAM (recently upgraded because of this issue!). When I boot my system and log in, vm_stat / top / Activity Monitor will show that kernel_task has about 150 MB allocated, and the machine has about 800 MB of Wired memory being allocated. Even initially, 800 MB seems an awful lot of wired memory to be allocated with no applications running - but, it gets worse. (NB: Wired is locked, unswappable memory) After a very short time, sometimes triggered by something as simple as launching a terminal, kernel_task will balloon to 8-900 MB of Real Mem (RSIZE), and Wired Memory will accelerate to 1.6 GB (implying that all the extra memory requests are for wired RAM in the kernel). If I quit everything (I.E: no running applications, bar an activity monitor or terminal to view top), there is no appreciable reduction in either kernel_task RSIZE, or Wired Memory usage. Going the opposite way, and loading the system with tasks also shows that wired memory does not get reduced - and that importantly it is not reduced in preference to heavy swapping. If I log out and log back in again, it reduces a bit (450 MB kernel_task, 1.28 GB Wired), but not back to the start. I'm not running any wacky kexts - and futhermore, kextstat shows no huge memory allocations there; the largest being com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal at about 4 MB of Memory. The machine feels overall more sluggish when this has happened - unsurprisingly because such a huge amount of RAM has been marked as non-pageable. So I have a few questions: 1) Is there a good way to diagnose what has allocated all of this wired memory? It's often over 2 times the kernel_task size, running no applications. The real memory total doesn't seem to add up - it seems that there is a bunch of RAM that isn't being accounted for anywhere. 2) What is happening to cause the kernel to suddenly require 6 times as much memory?

  Hi, I am trying to troubleshoot some mysql problems (I have a table I cant seem to delete or drop, it hangs forever) I have 10.5.8 osx, I dont remember how/if I installed mysql, here is what I know: it automatically starts on boot the process looks like this: /usr/local/mysql/libexec/mysqld --basedir=/usr/local/mysql --datadir=/usr/local/mysql/var --pid-file=/usr/local/mysql/var/Joels-New-Pro.local.pid _mysql 96 0.0 0.0 75884 684 ?? Ss Sat06PM 0:00.02 /bin/sh /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe when I run: /usr/local/mysql/libexec/mysqld --verbose --help it says: /usr/local/mysql/libexec/mysqld Ver 5.0.45 for apple-darwin9.1.0 on i686 (Source distribution) it seems to use my.cnf from /etc/my.cnf Now here are my questions: I dont see anything in the startupitems that remotely looks like mysql ls /Library/StartupItems/ BRESINKx86Monitoring ChmodBPF HP IO HP Trap Monitor Parallels ParallelsTransporter 1.) So how does it startup automatically? 2.) How do I start & stop this type of installation? Also, looking at the config, the logs have no values: /usr/local/mysql/libexec/mysqld --verbose --help|grep '^log' log (No default value) log-bin (No default value) log-bin-index (No default value) log-bin-trust-function-creators FALSE log-bin-trust-routine-creators FALSE log-error log-isam myisam.log log-queries-not-using-indexes FALSE log-short-format FALSE log-slave-updates FALSE log-slow-admin-statements FALSE log-slow-queries (No default value) log-tc tc.log log-tc-size 24576 log-update (No default value) log-warnings 1 3.) • Installing SATA dvd burner on machine with no spare SATA ports/connectors

I have the following motherboard Tyan Thunder K8WE S2895A2NRF Motherboard - extended ATX - nForce Pro 2200/2050 - Socket 940 - UDMA133, Serial ATA-300 (RAID) - 2 x Gigabit Ethernet - FireWire - 6-1 channel audio This is part of a computer that was assembled in the winter of 2006/2007. The user manual says the following with regard to SATA Integrated SATAII Generation 1 Controllers (from NForce Professional 2200) Two integrated dual port SATA II controllers Four SATA connectors support up to four drives 3 Gb/s per direction per channel NvRAID v2.0 support Supports RAID 0, 1, 0+1 and JBOD. I just purchased a SATA DVD burner. Here is the page for the product http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B002QGDWLK/ The problem I am facing is that I already have 4 SATA drives installed. I don't want to remove any of them. However, I want the DVD burner above installed as well. The person I am consulting with here (Bombay, India) tells me that my four available SATA ports are filled, and that my only option is to install a SATA card into the one free PCI slot on the motherboard. However, he says that with this setup I will not be able to boot from the DVD drive. Are these statements correct, and what are my other options if any? Even it the statements in the last para are true, I suppose I could use one of the motherboard connectors/ports there are currently being used with the hard drives with the DVD drive, and use the "add-on" connector with one of the hard drives. Not all the 4 hard drives need to be bootable. BTW, despite having read through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#Cables.2C_connectors.2C_and_ports I am fuzzy on the differences between connectors, cables and ports. Thanks in advance.

• New Computer freezing up at random

  Since I built my system about 4 weeks ago I'v been getting random freezes, Sometimes it can happen directly after startup and sometimes it wont freeze up for 3-4 days of 24/7 running. It seems to be happening under all stress loads but mainly when the CPU is under 10% load. It doesn't give me a BSOD or anything, it simply just freezes and repeats the last sound before the freeze until I shut it down by the power button. I'v re-seated everything in the system except the CPU, Cleaned the RAM sockets and gold fittings. None of the components have been clocked above their factory settings as of yet, don't want to overclock them until I sort out these freezes. Temps are all well under the rated max temps, the highest the temps have been are below CPU: Low load: 16-21°C Full Load (100%) 40-43°C *(From HWMonitor by CPUID) GPU 1: Low Load: 25-30°C Full Load (100%): 45-50°C GPU 2: Low Load: 23-27°C Full Load (100%): 45-50°C *(GPU Temps from Catalyst Control Center) General Case temps Rear: 18-20°C Mid: 20-21°C Front (HDD/SSD Bays): 14-19°C (Case temps may be a little off as it's from the Kaze master pro fan controller) I have Un-installed EVERY driver for Motherboard, GPU & Soundcard and Re-installed twice. Windows is all up to date. To date i'v tried the following Running Memtest for 24 hrs straight, No errors Running Memtest on each individual RAM modules, No errors Reseated everything except the CPU Cleaned DIMM Sockets and Gold inputs Tested the Graphics cards 1 at a time Re-arranged all the SATA devices to run on Chipset controlled ports Re-installing all drivers OS: Win7 Professional 64bit Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme9 CPU: i7 3930k 3.2GHz GPU: Sapphire 7950 OC Edition V2 (2 card Crossfire) RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Z F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZL 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 Boot Drive: OCZ Agility 4 128GB Data Drive 1: Western Digital Black 2TB Data Drive 2: Western Digital Black 2TB Data Drive 3: Western Digital Green 3TB Power Supply: Corsair AX1200 Gold

• Troubleshooting certificate issues

  I'm trying to access my (European Parliament) Webmail from a Linux/Firefox machine at the following address and I get security warning messages explaining that the identity of the site cannot be verified (the error message is in french). But this only happens with Linux/Firefox from one machine. Here's the address: https://webmail.europarl.europa.eu/ (and I'm trying to access it from my home, not from the EP). And here's the detailed error message: webmail.europarl.europa.eu utilise un certificat de sécurité invalide. Le certificat n'est pas sûr car l'autorité délivrant le certificat est inconnue. (Code d'erreur : sec_error_unknown_issuer) So basically, if I translate, it is telling that the webmail.europarl.europa.eu certificate is invalid because the authority that delivered the certificate is unknown. I do only get this invalid certificate thing on Linux/Firefox. From a MacBookPro running Safari, I go to what looks like the correct webmail login page. From the same Linux machine, but using another user account and Chrome instead of Firefox, I go to what looks like the correct webmail login page. So there are several possibilities, here are a few ones: Firefox is right and my Linux box has been hacked Firefox is right and detecting something that neither Chrome nor Safari is detecting (like, say, my router that may be hacked) Safari on the MacBook Pro and Chrome on Linux are both correct and it is just Firefox on Linux that is wrongly stressing me when everything is normal. How do I know which one of these possibilities (or any other) is correct? How can I troubleshoot what is going on with either Linux/Firefox or with the parliament's webmail?

• Connect bluetooth headphones both to PC and phone at the same time

  I have recently bought Philips SHB6110. Extract from the 13th page of manual: Therefore you can connect your Bluetooth stereo headset. with a Bluetooth stereo enabled phone to both listen to music and lead calls, or with a Bluetooth phone that does not support Bluetooth stereo (A2DP) to lead calls and at the same time to a Bluetooth audio device (Bluetooth enabled MP3 player, Bluetooth audio adapter etc.) to listen to music. Make sure to pair the phone first with your Bluetooth headset, then turn both the phone and headset off to then pair the Bluetooth audio device. With the SwitchStream feature you can listen to music and monitor your calls at the same time. Even while listening to music, you will hear a ring tone when receiving a call and can switch to the call simply by tapping the button. The manual however doesn't specify how do I connect to both device at the same time. I use Toshiba Satellite Pro P300-1CG laptop with Belkin Mini Bluetooth Adapter and Nokia N95 phone. Operating system is Windows 7 64-bit and I have Skype installed. Both phone and compute can be used for listening to music and talking on the phone (on PC via Skype). Best solution would be if I could connect to PC and phone as the same time and monitor calls both mobile and Skype calls while listening music from Winamp. If that is not possible, then I would like at least to be able to listen music from PC, while monitoring calls from mobile. So, please tell me how do I connect both PC and phone to headphones?

• Virtual bridged networking with VLAN, could not ping

  I require a virtual network with VLAN be build between two virtual hosts - which can be (lxc/ vbox -ubuntu or win xp). I tried with lxc and vbox with Ubuntu and was finding difficult to make it work without vlan, but was successful with vbox with xp. vbox-xp1 --- br1 ---------------- br2 ---- vbox-xp2 The config is: brctl addbr br1; brctl addbr br2 ifconfig br1 up; ifconfig br2 up stp br1 off; stp br2 off ip link add name br1-br2-l0 type veth peer name br1-br2-l1 sudo brctl addif br1 br1-br2-l0 sudo brctl addif br2 br1-br2-l1 vbox - xp 1 and 2 with network ; bridged and br1 and br2 respectively. The adapter is intel PRO/1000 MT Server and driver installed in guests. Configured IPs and two hosts pinged! VLAN config: ip link add link br1 name br1-2.5 type vlan id 5 brctl addif br2 br1-2.5 create vlan 5 in xp 1 and 2 and assign ip address Ping on with this config does not work. Wireshark trace on interface br1-br2-l1 / br1-2.5 shows that one ping results in ~240 ping packets and each growing by 4 bytes - first one being correct and 60, ping does not reach other host as I see mac is not learnt[arp -a]. -- if br1-2.5 is not configured, I see untagged packets in br1-br2-l1/0, but still not reaching other host as mac is not learnt. if br1-br2-l0/1 is made down, even if br1-2.5 is up, I count not see any packets. I tried with ebtables, but still could not make a correct config to work. -- If any one here are aware of any configuration, please let me know. I need to make a network of switches.
