• Strange DNS problem [seems to be IPv6 issue]

  Hi, I'm experiencing strange problems with my Kubuntu 9.10 when doing DNS requests from various applications. The requests are extremely slow, so loading any pages in Firefox or Konqueror, doing package installations in Kpackagemanager and other apps is really painful, while for example Opera doesnt have any problems, and ping is normally fast as well for DNS pings. I checked the proxy settings of both the used applications as well as of the general system and there are none, so to me it doesn't seem as there was something inbetween.. Does anybody have an idea on what to check for possible problem sources or how to solve this ? I'm behind a DSL home router which does the DHCP (and works well with my other computer). Any kind of advice would be really helpful. Edit: It seems to be some kind of IPv6 problem, as I could get it to work by disabling IPv6 explicitly in Firefox. Is there a general solution to this ?

• In IIS why do HTTP requests use the host header, and FTP requests do not

  So.... In IIS, if you use the in-build FTP you need to combine the FTP host header in the FTP username e.g. www.hello.com|domain/username So, the FTP program gets its "hook" from the username. However, you can connect to the FTP site using www.hello.com:21 over the FTP port. Why then, doesnt the FTP service work the same way as the HTTP service? IIS knows what site to serve back based on the host header after all.... Thanks!

  I have a piece of software i have to install on company laptops. The installer needs a serial to work properly, but i don't have it (my manager isn't here so i cant ask him). The installer tells me to ring a phone number which doesnt appear to be connected anymore. I would download win32dasm and ollydbg and have a go at cracking the installer but i dont really have time and i havnt done it in years. There is a zip file on the disc that looks like it contains all the program files but it is passworded. Is it feasible to crack this or will it take ages?

• JBoss thrown error looking up local address when starting

  Hello im installing a fresh Jboss 5.1 in a Centos 5.5 machine. I dont have Apache installed. So when I try to start jboss using the comand ./run.sh I get the following error 15:13:57,414 INFO [JMXKernel] Legacy JMX core initialized 15:14:03,856 ERROR [ServerInfo] Error looking up local address java.net.UnknownHostException: dhcppc1: dhcppc1 at java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost(InetAddress.java:1354) at org.jboss.system.server.ServerInfo.getHostAddress(ServerInfo.java:364) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) .... After that i can run Jboss only from 127.0.0.1:8080 but using localhost:8080 doesnt work. I think its a centos configuration problem but im a total newbye managing ports and maybe firewalls, so what do you think could be the problem?

  I have a CentOS 6.3 installed with httpd running and vsftpd but I am unable to balance permission between the user able to upload over ftp and their website working. What I do: I create a user with their home directory as `/home/username` I create a sub folder called `html` for their website I chown their directory `chown -R username:apache /home/username` I chmod their directory `chmod -R 750 /home/username` I chcon their directory `chcon -R -t httpd_sys_rw_content_t /home/username` and their website loads fine but they are unable to ftp, but if I do the following, they can ftp but their website doesnt load: chcon -R -t user_home_dir_t /home/username If I disable selinux, the user can ftp and the website loads. so what is the answer to keep selinux?

• Redirect anything within /attachments/ directory up one level but also removing anything after /attachments/

  WordPress creates an attachment page for any images uploaded through the post editor and "attached" to that post. After migrating a site, those attachment pages no longer exist, and we now have around 1000 links pointed at 404's. So, I was looking to find a way to do a redirect for any url that has /attachement/ in it's string and then push that url back up one level (which happens to be the post page). so for instance: http://mysite.com/2012/news/blog-post-title/attachment/image-page/ (which doesnt exist) will go to http://mysite.com/2012/news/blog-post-title/ (which does exist). Along with redirecting up one level, I also need to remove anything after /attachment/ (in this case the "image-page." Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

• How can I pretty print erb in BBedit indenting rails tags and not just markup?

  I want to re-indent my code but the rails tags <% foo %> get aligned to the left with no indentation. What I'm using is: markup utilities format pretty print Does anyone know if there is a way to reconfigure this behavior? UPDATE: I just found this out but cant seem to get it working: "The 'Pretty print' option for Markup - Utilities - Format is now implemented internally using a Dreamweaver-style source format profile. This affords slightly prettier output than was possible before. Advanced users can override the factory format profile by placing an appropriately constructed file at ~/Library/Application Support/BBEdit/SourceFormat.profile." I opened the bbedit app package, found the file, copied it to the folder indicated in "application support" and tweaked the desired indentation width just as a test before touching anything else, and it doesnt seem to do anything.

• Getting Correct Edition of Office 2007 from Serial Key

  I have been asked by a Client to refresh one of their Machines. To do this i managed to get Windows XP Setup to run in Repair mode, and while in setup i ran a serial key grabber, which grabbed the key for Office 2007 The only thing is that the key grabber didnt tell me what edition of Office 2007 was installed. I have aqquired a number of ISO's for the different editions (Home & Student, Standard, Professional, Ultimate) but the key doesnt work in any of them. Is there a way to get the edition from the Serial Key, or is there a generic ISO that will install any edition depending on the Serial Key?

• Running a command or script in terminal from anywhere by adding it to the PATH, what am I doing wrong?

  On osx/linux I want to be able to run a command/script on the terminal from anywhere which links to a program. ie I want to be able to run: alloy that runs: /usr/local/share/npm/lib/node_modules/alloy/bin/alloy I'm guessing adding to .bashrc is the best way? I've tried running: export PATH="$PATH:/usr/local/share/npm/lib/node_modules/alloy/bin" and also: export PATH="$PATH:/usr/local/share/npm/lib/node_modules/alloy/bin/alloy" Then I started a new terminal window but the alloy command doesnt work. Am I missing something?

• Suppress EXT3-fs warning on mount

  I am familiar with output suppress on Unix machines, ie: cat /file/that/doesnt/exist > /dev/null 2>& However I can't seem to suppress the output of mount when an ext3 filesystem is mounted for the nth time, and it recommends an fsck. As it happens, fscks are run regularly by another machine, so these warning messages are needlessly interrupting the flow of output to my pretty bash script. These are the errors: # mount -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /mnt > /dev/null 2>& kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds EXT3-fs warning: maximal mount count reached, running e2fsck is recommended EXT3 FS 2.4-0.9.19, 19 August 2002 on sd(8,1), internal journal EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. • Group policy preventing XenApp from creating start menu menus

  I have a citrix Xenapp server that has some apps installed. The are placed in a folder and set to populate the start menu. The problem is when I log on with a user from a particular OU I am unable to get the start menu inserted from xenapp. It is quite a restrictive group policy but does anyone know the setting for preventing users from modifying the start menu. I have tried "Prevent changes to Taskbar and Start Menu Settings" but this didnt work. Any ideas would be great. I know it isnt permissions because I have another user that has the same permissions assigned to them, the only difference is that one user gets the restrictive group policy and the other doesnt. The advertised didn't worked out so checked in 2-3 months time and i saw that the unique visitors on their site was 8,000 at that time.I immediately close the account I dont remember which site i was checking the unique visitors.That advt company has filed a dispute against me. So is there any tool that give me stats of 2012 of any website. i tried google trends but it doesnt show statistics ..

• Windows 7 starter will not shutdown or logoff

  Hi all, Im having some problems with a friends netbook (a dell mini 10). It will not shutdown or logoff via the usual route. Whenever the shutdown/logoff button is clicked, it will briefly freeze (maybe for only a second) and then do nothing. Ive tried shutting down manually via the command line using shutdown /p but all to no avail, it just defaults back to flashing cursor in the command prompt. There doesnt seem to be any mention of a similar problem on google so i was wondering if anyone else had any ideas. Thanks oh and its runnning windows 7 starter.

  I am trying to get all users of particular notebooks to make the users h drive offline. i know you can do it manually but is there a way to set this value somewhere so that users dont have to do it themselves? I am running 2008r2 domain controllers and windows 7 clients. I have folder redirection enabled but i want to make the users h: available to them when they are offline. I know the group policies are located in the computer configurationPoliciesadministrative templatesNetwork but there doesnt seem to be any place to select which folders/drives will be offline files without a users input. After the reboot tomcat doesnt start with error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap We reduced the parameter -Xmx1024m to -Xmx768m and now tomcat starts.   Hello, I bought a D-link DIR-300 wireless router and i can't bring NAT to work, i have an ssh and http service i need to forward to the internet. My connection is as follows: I have an ADSL connection, i'm using a ADSL ethernet modem connected and working, it doesnt let me put it on bridge mode. I have my router connected to my adsl modem through ethernet, it gets its ip through DHCP (and i'ts always the same) I have a desktop computer running linux with apache and openssh configured and working, it has fixed ip. I configured the NAT in the modem forwarding port 22 from the router ip to the internet. In the router i setup NAT forwarding port 22 from the desktop computer fixed ip to out there. This setup already worked with a fonera i had before, can anyone help me with this or tell me what kind of tests do i need to do? How can i test if the router is forwarding ports correctly before the modem?

  I need to change www.myhost.com:8080/myproject-war to www.myhost.com. This is what I try. In admin console in Glassfish 3.0.1, I create a http-listener-3 with port 9090 and address 0.0.0.0 (I want to have port 80, but got access-denied or some sort). I then create a virtual server call scholar, with Id=scholar, Hosts=${com.sun.aas.hostName}, Network Listeners: http-listener-3, Default Web Module=project#project-war.war(it is the only option from the drop down list since I only deploy 1 app). Then under Applications, I set the virtual server of the application to be scholar. Save and restart. I try localhost:9090, and expecting that it will load my project like as if I type localhost:9090/project-war. But it does not. I already set the Default Web Module, to be the project, why doesnt it load the project by default?

  We just went from shared hosting to a VPS server. We have several domain names that we have pointing to our dns, but they all point to the root of the server. What I would like now is a setup where every domain name gets its own map so we can run different sites on the VPS server. Like: www.example.com points to: /var/www/example.com www.imapwnu.com points to: /var/www/imapwnu.com First of all, is this possible? Second, I have root SSH access and Webmin, on a LAMP server running on Ubuntu. Webmin doesnt have Bind9 (I dont know if I need that, some forums pointed me towards something called bind).   Here is a question a student asked me in one of my A+ certification classes: How can you tell a USB cable version? I honestly dont know the answer, I cant find one either. USB cables are rated for versions 1, 1.1, 2, and now 3. I have seen their versions on the packaging, but never marked on the cable itself. Since the respective versions are manufactured differently, there is a difference between them. So, how can you tell? On Wikipedia: USB cables v.2 and earlier do use a "twisted pair" method, but doesnt specify if the cables themselves are the same or different. Is the cable rating system for v.2 and earlier just marketing hype?

  I just noticed this yesterday. I selected different memory columns, none of them worked, and I've tried showing processes from all users. I'm using Win 7.   Users of a SharePoint Document Library are getting this error: The URL for this file is too long for the application. A temporary copy of this file will be opened on your computer. You must save this copy as a new file. After doing some research, it appears Internet Explorer has a limit of about ~250 characters for a URL. Some URLs provided by SharePoint far exceed this limit. One example being 790 characters long. Is there a way to disable this limit? I have looked, but there doesnt appear to be a solution, other than shortening the folder/path names.

  Hello Serverfault ! I have a big distributed system I need to monitor. Background: My system is comprised of two servers, concentrating and controlling the system. Each server is connected to a set of devices (some custom kind of RF controllers, doesnt matter to my question), each device connects to a network switch, and eventually all devices talk to the servers, the protocol between the servers and the devices is UDP, usually the packets are very small, but there are really a LOT of packets. the network is also somewhat complex, and is deployed on a large area physically. i'll have 150-300 of these devices, each generating up to 100+ packets per second, and several network switches, perhaps on 2 different subnets. Question I'm looking for some solution that will allow me to monitor all this mess, how many packets are sent, where, how do they move through the network, bandwidth utilization, throughput, stuff like that. what would you recommend to achieve this? BTW Playing nice with windows is a requirement.

• Setting DNS suffix for multiple network adapters in a VM

  Is there a way to set the DNS Suffix for multiple network adapters in a VM using the sysprep file? We are trying to setup Windows 2003 VMs with 2 network adapters. In the one adapter case the sysprep we are able to set the suffix using DNSDomain. But this doesnt work in the 2 adapter case. The The VM is setup corrently though without any issues but one of our apps relies on the DNS Suffix value to work correctly. Thanks in advance.

  Hi! Im trying to get a raid0 setup going. I have a 750 gb hdd with the OS on it and two 80gb HDD. For right now, I just want to raid0 on the two 80Gb hdd. When I enable raid in my Bios, Win7 has a BSOD during boot. As far as I understand I need to install raid drivers. However how can I do this? The win7 DVD doesnt seem to have a driver install option. Any suggestions? Thanks EDIT: I saw that there was as seperate setting for the 4th and 5th sata ports. So I pluged in my OS drive into there and left it on IDE. Still didnt work though, am I miss understanding that idealogy?
