• Implemention of scattering in this paper

  Hi, For some time I tried implementing the scattering model described in this paper: Salama Paper The BRDF part of this paper is pretty clear and straightforward. Where I am hanging is the scattering part. When scattering at the first hitpoint once only, I'm just not getting the same results as proposed by the images in the very same paper. Of course I'm scattering multiply rays inside the proposed scattering cone and averaging the results of the different rays. Does anyone have more or less concrete ideas on the implementation of this nice and beautiful illustrative rendering method. I am glad and thankful for any hints.

• PHP: reusing database class

  Hi, I built a class that allows me to do: $db->query($query); and it works perfectly, although if I want to do: $db->query($query); while($row = $db->fetch_assoc()){ $db->query($anotherquery); echo $db->result(); } it "breaks" the class. I don't want to constantly have to redeclare my class (eg: $seconddb = new database()), is there a way to get around this? I want to be able to reuse $db within $db, without overwriting the "outside" db. currently I'm create an array of data (from db-fetch_assoc() then doing a foreach and then doing the db call inside that: $db->query('SELECT * FROM table'); while($row = $db->fetch_assoc()){ $arr[] = $row; } foreach($arr as $a){ $db->query(); // query and processing here } Is this the best method or am I missing the obvious? Should I consider passing a connection link ID with the database connection?

So my question is, What i am doing is it right approach? Will it make the page to load slower then the above code used as it is without defining it in a new user control?

• Paginator (Migration from Cake 1.3 to 2.0

  i am struggling with the paginator in cakephp 2.0. While i am trying to migrate my application to 2.0 i cant find any solution to jump directly to the last page. In 1.3 it was quiet to do that from outside like this: echo $this->Html->link(__('Flights'), array('controller' => 'flights', 'action' => 'index','page' => 'last')); but this little trick putting 'page:last' in does not work anymore in 2.0. Of course there is a Paginator function called last, but this would only help if i would be already inside the app. My Problem is to access from an outside link directly the last page of the paginator. • How do you combine a Move and Rotate effect in Flex 3?

  I realize you can make one of each effect, set the same target, and hit .play();, but this produces weird results (acknowledged by Adobe, fixed in Flex 4). I'm trying to have an object move from the top of the screen to the bottom while it rotates around it's own center. When called independently, both of these effects work perfectly. When called together, the object always rotates around the top left corner. I even tried putting them both inside a <Parallel> tag with no success. Has anyone come up with a workaround?

• Is there any way around the Chrome 5 breakage of Ajax for local files?

  The recent Chrome 5.0 release completely blocks XMLHTTPRequest requests for local files comming from a local file. Here is just one of the many related bug reports and here is the code change (there is also a SO question caused by this). This breaks a lot of production code, e.g. for documentation systems. Users must be able to browse local documentation without the need to install anything or run executables. My question is if there is any way around this restriction? I'm only interested in solutions that don't require any fancy actions on the users side (nothing beyond a confirmation dialog). Is there any way the HTML5 File API could be used, or maybe postMessage()? Of course this whole issue is very frustrating for many people. Firefox takes a fare more reasonable approach and allows requests inside the directory. So it seems unlikely that other browser vendors will follow Chrome.

• Django: Converting an entire Model into a single dictionary

  Is there a good way in Django to convert an entire model to a dictionary? I mean, like this: class DictModel(models.Model): key = models.CharField(20) value = models.CharField(200) DictModel.objects.all().to_dict() ... with the result being a dictionary with the key/value pairs made up of records in the Model? Has anyone else seen this as being useful for them? Thanks. Update I just wanted to add is that my ultimate goal is to be able to do a simple variable lookup inside a Template. Something like: {{ DictModel.exampleKey }} With a result of DictModel.objects.get(key__exact=exampleKey).value Overall, though, you guys have really surprised me with how helpful allof your responses are, and how different the ways to approach it can be.   I have the following simplified html: <div class="foo" style="width:200px; height:200px;"> <input type="checkbox" /> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> $('.foo').click(function(){$(this).find('input:checkbox')[0].click();}); </script> Clicking the 200x200 div 'foo' works well, and raises the click event for the checkbox inside it. However when I exactly click the checkbox itself, it fires its 'normal' event, plus the jquery bound event above, meaning the checkbox checks itself, then unchecks itself again. Is there a tidy way to prevent this from happening?

  Hi, Sorry I can't find a question answering this, I'm almost certain someone else has raised it before. My problem is that I'm writing some system libraries to run embedded devices. I have commands which can be sent to these devices over radio broadcasts. This can only be done by text. inside the system libraries I have a thread which handles the commands which looks like this if (value.equals("A") { doCommandA() } else if (value.equals"B") { doCommandB() } else if etc. The problem is that there are a lot of commands to it will quickly spiral to something out of control. Horrible to look out, painful to debug and mind boggling to understand in a few months time.

  Hey everyone, I'm making small interactive games in flash to learn AS3, now I ran into a problem that I need some help with. I need to check the collision between the player and the wall which is normally simple using the hitTestObject function. But now I made a wall object totally surrounding the player with corridors and turn, a collision playground so to speak. Now when I use the hitTestObject function to check whether the player is in collision with the wall it tells me it always collides supposedly because the player object is within the bounds of the wall object. So assuming that I'm correct about the error: How can I prevent getting a collision when I'm inside the bounds of the wall object but not touching the actual walls in that object?

  Consider the following little piece of code: // all of these include other headers, lots of code: #include "myheader1.h" #include "myheader2.h" #include <string> void foo() { string s("hello world"); // oh no, why does this compile?? } This compiles, so obviously some of the recursively included header files has a using namespace std; somewhere. How would you go about finding out where that offending line of code is? Just using grep on all header files won't really work because that statement is often used inside a function, where it is safe and won't pollute the rest of the code.

  I have a method that I call multiple times, but each time a different method with a different signature is called from inside. public void MethodOne() { //some stuff *MethodCall(); //some stuff } So MethodOne is called multiple times, each time with a different *MethodCall(). What I'm trying to do is something like this : public void MethodOne(Func<> MethodCall) { //some stuff *MethodCall; //some stuff } but the Methods that are called each have a different return type and different parameters.   I have the following: <div id="abc"> </div> Inside that div there can be one only of the following: <p class="message"> <p class="message error"></p> <p class="message warning"></p> <p class="message success"></p> <p class="message loading"></p> Is there a way that I can find and remove only the class from the <p> element that's NOT "message". I realize I could remove everything and then add what I need with .removeClass() but this won't work for me as after I previously added the message class I did some CSS changes and these will be lost if I remove all and then add again the message class.

  I am wondering how to grab the selected item's text value on jquery autocomplete. • How to encode content to send them via jquery to a php file?

  I am trying to send a form to a php file via jquery. The problem is, that the content, which has to be sent to the php file, contains slashes (/) since there is bb code inside. So I tried the following: $.ajax( { type: "POST", url: "create.php", data: "content=" + encodeURIComponent(content), cache: false, success: function(message) { $("#somediv").html(message); } }); In the php file I use rawurldecode to decode the content and get my bb codes back which I can then transform into html. The problem is as soon as I put the encodeURIComponent() it will ouput: [object HTMLTextAreaElement] What does that mean, where is my mistake? Thanks for your help! phpheini

Am I right? I am confused why the increasedObject2 prints 5 and not 6. Can anyone please explain?
