• Unusual Apache->Tomcat caching issue.

  Right now, I have an Apache setup sitting in front of Tomcat to handle caching. This setup has been given to an external service to manage, and since the transition, I've noticed odd behavior. Specifically, when I request a swf file from the web server, I hit the Apache cache (good), but occasionally I'll receive a truncated file. Once I receive this truncated file, the cache will NOT refresh until I manually delete the cache and let the swf pull down from tomcat again. The external service claims that the configuration is fine, but I don't see any way this could be happening aside from improper configuration. Now, there are two apache and two tomcat servers under a load balancer, and occasionally one apache cache will break while another does not (leading to 50% of all requests getting bad, truncated data). Where should I start looking to debug this issue? What could POSSIBLY be causing this odd behavior? • Terminal Server 2008 not issuing Volume device CAL's

  We've a lot of Volume Licences left, but the License Server apparantly doesn't use them. Instead it issues Temporary Per Device CAL's. Which is a bit odd off course... • SUnreclaim size increasing in syc with a TCP-CLOSE_WAIT till application restart

  Recently found a behaviour where my application had a connection in TCP Close_wait state till the app was restarted (after about 5 hours). But during this period the SUnreclaim space was also increasing constantly and went down on restart. The application is runnning on a rhel5 os and Im not very familiar with the memory management system. Would appreciate if someone clould tell me what extactly is the Ureclaim space and why it is increasing in sync with the close_wait. Thanks.

• Smss.exe - setting any core affinity breaks rdp on Windows 7 / Windows Server 2012

  I have tried to set core affinity of smss.exe to not run on one critical core on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008r2. It turns out that simply setting the core affinity to anything (even the full mask that smss.exe already has) seems to work but prevents users from rdp'ing into the machine until it is restarted. The users already logged in may continue to use their sessions. This behaviour does not occur on Windows 8/Windows Server 2012. Does anyone know why it is happening?

• pix 501 encryption license reduces inside hosts to 10

  Hi I have an unlimted pix 501 with no encryption license installed. I have applied for and received a 3DES license. When I install the 3DES license, the inside hosts goes from unlimited to 10. Thankfully I had the presence of mind to keep a note of the old activation key. Is this normal behaviour? I would have thought not as I bought the pix as unlimited. Thanks Cammy

• Windows 7 does not wake up from sleep

  I upgraded my Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate (RTM) and after that it doesn't wake up from sleep. When I power it on it turns on but nothing happens, but if I press the reset button it boots and then wakes up, I mean, it doesn't reboot Win 7, it actually wakes up. Anyone have any clue about such a weird behaviour? It always worked fine on Vista. I have a GForce 8600 with the latest drivers.

• Browser resizing when the monitor turns on/off?

  On Windows 7, applications signed by "Microsoft Windows Publisher" don't prompt for elevation when UAC is turned on. Is there any way that I can add my own code-signing certificate to the UAC exclusions list, to get the same behaviour? I've got a couple of utilities that I always want to run elevated, so if I could sign them myself and install my self-signed CA certificate somewhere, and then bypass the UAC prompt, that'd save me time every morning when I log in.

  Using the voting buttons in Outlook 2007, apparently users can submit votes as many times as they like. (I have just now verified this behaviour.) Is there a way to restrict the uses to just one vote each? I've found a script online which claims to do this, but there's no way I can use a script like that across our company. I'm hoping it's just a configuration setting either in the outbound email, or in the user's Outlook client.

• unable to upgrade VMWare tools in Ubuntu 8.10

  I'm having a rather odd issue with a VMWare Tools upgrade on Ubuntu 8.10. As the screenshot below demonstrates, it wants to remove the old version before installing the new version (ok, not a problem). When it attempts to do so, however, it tells me that it can't uninstall the previous version, because there isn't one (there is! problem!). Has anyone encountered this? Googling didn't turn up much.
