• Have I found a security problem in an API or do I just not understand SSL?

  I'm working on building a set of Python bindings around an XML-based API provided by a vendor. The vendor requires that all transactions be conducted over SSL. Using a Linux box, I created a key file and a CSR for my application. Using their self-service web portal, I then generate a certificate using that CSR. Both the key file and the certificate are used when making the SSL request to the API. I'm now working on designing exception classes to make error messages more verbose (and, hopefully, more useful to developers using my bindings). Part of my testing has included altering the key file: transpose a couple characters here, replace 4 or 5 with random characters there, etc. To my surprise, altering the key file had no effect! As long as I didn't change the total length of it, the API didn't complain about a bad key file. The only way I was able to throw an error was by swapping in a completely different key from another application. At that point, the API complained about the Common Name not matching. Is this normal behavior or has the vendor not properly implemented SSL?

  Hey guys, I've been beating my head against this absolutely infuriating bug for the last 48 hours, so I thought I'd finally throw in the towel and try asking here before I throw my laptop out the window. I'm trying to parse the response XML from a call I made to AWS SimpleDB. The response is coming back on the wire just fine; for example, it may look like: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ListDomainsResponse xmlns="http://sdb.amazonaws.com/doc/2009-04-15/"> <ListDomainsResult> <DomainName>Audio</DomainName> <DomainName>Course</DomainName> <DomainName>DocumentContents</DomainName> <DomainName>LectureSet</DomainName> <DomainName>MetaData</DomainName> <DomainName>Professors</DomainName> <DomainName>Tag</DomainName> </ListDomainsResult> <ResponseMetadata> <RequestId>42330b4a-e134-6aec-e62a-5869ac2b4575</RequestId> <BoxUsage>0.0000071759</BoxUsage> </ResponseMetadata> </ListDomainsResponse> I pass in this XML to a parser with XMLEventReader eventReader = xmlInputFactory.createXMLEventReader(response.getContent()); and call eventReader.nextEvent(); a bunch of times to get the data I want. Here's the bizarre part -- it works great inside the local server. The response comes in, I parse it, everyone's happy. Nothing; it passes every validation test I could throw at it. Even stranger, it happens if I use a Saxon-based parser as well -- but ONLY on GAE, it always works fine in my local environment. It makes it very hard to trace the code for problems when I can only run the debugger on an environment that works perfectly (I haven't found any good way to remotely debug on GAE). Nevertheless, using the primitive means I have, I've tried a million approaches including: XML with and without the prolog With and without newlines With and without the "encoding=" attribute in the prolog Both newline styles With and without the chunking information present in the HTTP stream And I've tried most of these in multiple combinations where it made sense they would interact -- nothing! I'm at my wit's end. Has anyone seen an issue like this before that can hopefully shed some light on it? Thanks!

  Last year (2009), the Google Code Jam featured an interesting problem as the first problem in Round 1B: Decision Tree As the problem seemed tailored for Lisp-like languages, we spontaneously had an exciting codegolf here on SO, in which a few languages managed to solve the problem in fewer characters than any Lisp variety, using quite a number of different techniques. This year's Round 1B Problem A (File Fix-it) also seems tailored for a particular family of languages, Unix shell scripts. So continuing the "1B-A tradition" would be appropriate. :p But which language will end up with the shortest code? Let us codegolf and see! Problem description (adapted from official page): You are given T test cases. Each test case contains N lines that list the full path of all directories currently existing on your computer. For example: /home/awesome /home/awesome/wheeeeeee /home/awesome/wheeeeeee/codegolfrocks /home/thecakeisalie Next, you are given M lines that list the full path of directories you would like to create. They are in the same format as the previous examples. You can create a directory using the mkdir command, but you can only do so if the parent directory already exists. For example, to create the directories /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeah and /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeahyeah, you would need to use mkdir four times: mkdir /pyonpyon mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeah mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeahyeah For each test case, return the number of times you have to call mkdir to create all the directories you would like to create. Input Input consists of a text file whose first line contains the integer T, the number of test cases. The rest of the file contains the test cases.   I have a custom php page that processes a feed of images and makes albums out of it. However whenever i add pictures to my feed, the Drupal page doesn't change until I clear the caches. • Java unit test coverage numbers do not match.

  Below is a class I have written in a web application I am building using Java Google App Engine. I have written Unit Tests using TestNG and all the tests pass. I then run EclEmma in Eclipse to see the test coverage on my code. All the functions show 100% coverage but the file as a whole is showing about 27% coverage. Where is the 73% uncovered code coming from?   How can you set rate limit access to API using Iptables. Tried to set limit using port 80, but I don't want to set limit to the web access entirely. Is there a way to specified a subdomain rather than port. Example: set rate limit to api.example.com not example.com? If there is no way to set rate limit by subdomain, what is the suggested rate limit access to port 80 without risking blocking a legitimate web user? One connection per second would be enough?

I've considered various options, from the classical ones like Nginx, Apache, etc. to HAProxy, passing by the various Python webserver solutions like Tornado, Twisted (which gives me the opportunity to implement my own ACL system easily). The foundamental feature is high performance and scalability, and the ability to manage fine grained ACL rules (similar to the HAProxy ACL system) I would like to know what is a suggested approach to setup what I need, and if (opne source) ready-to-use solutions are already available dedicated to this.

Most of them seem to be ablut creating a web service, not using it and none of them seem to explain how to use basic HTTP authentication. EDIT: I use exchange so its a little different, but its called a smart host in exchange, but in plain SMTP service config i think its called something else. Cant remember exactly the setting name. Thank you for pointing me at the Smart host field. Mail is getting delivered now. In the Default SMTP Virtual Server properties, the Delivery tab, click Advanced and fill the "Smart host" field with the address that your provider gives you.   I'm running into an issue when trying to geolocate users whom are using blackberry devices. Currently there are a few checks that I go through to geolocate the individual the first, using the navigator paramater inside browsers. if(navigator.geolocation) if this fails then I have a backup using a free service (for testing) from maxmind: See Here Yet this doesn't return back the city at all either.   Hello, Is there any scalable Win32 API (like IOCP not like select) that gives you reactor style operations on sockets? AFAIK IOCP allows you to receive notification on completed operations like data read or written (proactor) but I'm looking for reactor style of operations: I need to get notification when the socket is readable or writable (reactor). Something similar to epoll, kqueue, /dev/poll ? Is there such API in Win32? If so where can I find a manual on it? Clearification: I need select like api for sockets that is as scalable as IOCP, or I'm looking for a way to use IOCP in reactor like operations.

(Of course Google is a public company so the chance is low, but might occur for smaller company that their domain might be stolen..)   How do you use this great new API in connection with Java? Do you use just pure native process API like nativeProcess.standardInput.write() and nativeProcess.standardOutput.read() with which you cannot debug Java side neither invoke remote java method. Or you are using some library that leverages remote method invocation such as flerry lib but that also cannot debug Java side? Or maybe you are using Merapi with which you can debug but cannot remotely invoke Java method? I'm asking this because this is maybe the most important question regarding this API and its ease of use.

  I currently work for a company that uses Kayako for their support system. They sell an extra program called Insta Alert that plays a sound when a new ticket is submitted. I use WHMCS for my own company, and would like to develop something to work with it that does the same thing. They are positioned in certain ways thereby turning certain Glines and/or GArcs on or off (changing visiblity) would create a pattern for a letter. This Gletter uses the if/else statements to determine which pattern to create - this makes me feel my code is too long. There is another class (DrawInitials.java) that simulates a GraphicsProgram and allows the user to pass certain letters as arguments to the GLetter object. I've used 'L' and 'O' as examples. However, I posted this because I'm not sure I'm using the right approach. That's why I need your help. I feel MY CODE IS TOO LONG! The code above is not the complete project...it only draws letters 'L' and 'O' for now.

• How can I authenticate when using the Bugzilla Perl API in a script?

  Working from the Bugzilla API, I've written a quick Perl script to clone a Bugzilla Product (recreating all the Components under their new Product). The Bugzilla Perl API is quite easy to use from the command line. I could have just worked on the database directly, but I wanted a longer-term solution. Another option was the webservice, but I thought I'd try using the API directly this time. The one problem I'm running into is authenticating as my Bz admin user so I can create the new components. Looking at Bugzilla's Bugzilla.pm file, I see that they just run login() from a Bugzilla::Auth object. I'm not sure how to get the username and password in there. I suppose I could just add the script to the Bugzilla admin interface... Can any of you point me in the right direction?

  The specific problem is, the support of condition variable on Windows begins from Vista, for early version of Windows (Windows XP), I have a emulated condition variable code sort of solved the problem. However, I'd like to have the ability to call native condition variable API when the system supported and fallback to my version only on XP and earlier version. I tried to detect windows version with GetVersionInfo API, but it still gives me error on start time (cannot find API entry of InitializeConditionVariable sort of). I am not familiar with Windows programming, how do you solve the gentle fallback problem nicely?

  Hi, API referred : http://www.salesforce.com/us/developer/docs/api/index.htm subsection: reference-standard objects Client side details : partner.wsdl, Axis2 1.5, generated stubs using unpacked option (-u). I was hoping to find some basic objects like Account, Contact, etc (which were listed on above url) so that I can do something like - SObject[] sObjArray = queryResult.getRecords(); for(SObject sObj : sObjArray){ Account acc = [Account] sObj; } [used above approach successfully in another webservice - 'Zuora'] However, I could not find Account class in the generated classes. I guess I am into wrong approach, but atleast I should be finding the classes listed in the reference API. Please help.
