  • Java EE 6: JSF vs Servlet + JSP. Should I bother learning JSF?

    - by Harry Pham
I am trying to get familiar with Java EE 6 by reading http://java.sun.com/javaee/6/docs/tutorial/doc/gexaf.html. I am a bit confused about the use of JSF. Usually, the way I develop my Web App would be, Servlet would act like a controller and JSP would act like a View in an MVC model. So Does JSF try to replace this structure? Below are the quote from the above tutorial: Servlet are best suited for service-oriented App and control function of presentation-oriented App like dispatching request JSF and Facelet are more appropriated for generating mark-up like XHTML, and generally used for presentation-oriented App Not sure if I understand the above quote too well, they did not explain too well what is service-oriented vs presentation-oriented. A JavaServer Faces application can map HTTP requests to component-specific event handling and manage components as stateful objects on the server. Any knowledgeable Java developer out there can give me a quick overview about JSF, JSP and Servlet? Do I integrate them all, or do I use them separated base on the App? if so then what kind of app use JSF in contrast with Servlet and JSP A JavaServer Faces application can map HTTP requests to component-specific event handling and manage components as stateful objects on the server. Sound like what servlet can do, but not sure about manage components as stateful objects on the server. Not even sure what that mean? Thanks in advance.

  • function working fine in IE but the same funtion is not working for mozilla 3.6

    - by anand-juventus
function VisibleDiv(obj) { if (obj == BaseLog) { var objStyle = document.getElementById('DivCalls').style; if (objStyle.display == "block") objStyle.display = "none"; else objStyle.display = "block"; } else if (obj == ViewReports) { var objStyle = document.getElementById('DivReports').style; if (objStyle.display == "block") objStyle.display = "none"; else objStyle.display = "block"; } else if (obj ==Management) { var objStyle = document.getElementById('DivManage').style; if (objStyle.display == "block") objStyle.display = "none"; else objStyle.display = "block"; } <a href="#" id="BaseLog" class="TextHeader" onclick="VisibleDiv(this)">Base Log </a> in the above code is working in IE but not working in mozilla 3.6. I have checked that obj==BaseLog is not working in the above code. I have tried many options like event.srcelement window.event.srcelement but all in vain. when I debug the code ,I found that obj is having complete value for IE but the same obj is having all the names .ie. the name of tag,id and class for "Base Log" seperated by #. i.e a#BaseLog#TextHeader# Please suggest what shoud I do?

  • How to implement a log window in a web browser?

    - by Jeremy Friesner
Hi all, I'm interested in adding an HTML/web-browser based "log window" to my net-enabled device. Specifically, my device has a customized web server and an event log, and I'd like to be able to leave a web browser window open to e.g. http://my.devices.ip.address/system_log and have events show up as text in the web browser window as they happen. People could then use this as a quick way to monitor what the system is doing, without needing run any special software. My question is, what is the best way to implement this? I've tried the obvious approach -- just have my device's embedded web server hold the HTTP/TCP connection open indefinitely, and write the necessary text to the TCP socket when an event occurs -- but the problem with that is that most web browsers (e.g. Safari) don't display the web page until the server has closed the TCP connection has been closed, and so the result is that the log data never appears in the web browser, it just acts as if the page is taking forever to load. Is there some trick to make this work? I could implement it as a Java applet, but I'd much prefer something more lightweight/simple, either using only HTML or possibly HTML+JavaScript. Also I'd like to avoid having the web browser 'poll' the server, since that would either introduce too much latency (if the reload delay was large) or put load on the system (if the delay was small)

  • Any way to create a hidden main window in C#?

    - by Bill
I just want a c# application with a hidden main window that will process and respond to window messages. I can create a form without showing it, and can then call Application.Run() without passing in a form, but how can I hook the created form into the message loop? Is there another way to go about this? Thanks in advance for any tips!

  • Storing a NTFS Security Descriptor in C

    - by Doori Bar
My goal is to store a NTFS Security Descriptor in its identical native state. The purpose is to restore it on-demand. I managed to write the code for that purpose, I was wondering if anybody mind to validate a sample of it? (The for loop represents the way I store the native descriptor) This sample only contains the flag for "OWNER", but my intention is to apply the same method for all of the security descriptor flags. I'm just a beginner, would appreciate the heads up. Thanks, Doori Bar #define _WIN32_WINNT 0x0501 #define WINVER 0x0501 #include <stdio.h> #include <windows.h> #include "accctrl.h" #include "aclapi.h" #include "sddl.h" int main (void) { DWORD lasterror; PSECURITY_DESCRIPTOR PSecurityD1, PSecurityD2; HANDLE hFile; PSID owner; LPTSTR ownerstr; BOOL ownerdefault; int ret = 0; unsigned int i; hFile = CreateFile("c:\\boot.ini", GENERIC_READ | ACCESS_SYSTEM_SECURITY, FILE_SHARE_READ, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_FLAG_BACKUP_SEMANTICS, NULL); if (hFile == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { fprintf(stderr,"CreateFile() failed. Error: INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE\n"); return 1; } lasterror = GetSecurityInfo(hFile, SE_FILE_OBJECT, OWNER_SECURITY_INFORMATION , &owner, NULL, NULL, NULL, &PSecurityD1); if (lasterror != ERROR_SUCCESS) { fprintf(stderr,"GetSecurityInfo() failed. • IE7 & 8 not fireing jQuery click events for elements appended inside a table

    - by Keith
I have an IE bug that I'm not sure how to fix. Using jQuery I'm dynamically moving a menu to appear on an element on mouseover. My code (simplified) looks something like this: $j = jQuery.noConflict(); $j(document).ready(function() { //do something on the menu clicks $j('div.ico').click(function() { alert($j(this).parent().html()); }); setUpActions('#tableId', '#menuId'); }); //on mouseover set up the actions menu to appear on mouseover function setUpActions(tableSelector, menuSelector) { $j(tableSelector + ' div.test').mouseover(function() { //note that append will move the underlying //DOM element with all events from it's old //parent to the end of this one. $j(this).append($j(menuSelector).show()); }); } This menu doesn't seem to register events correctly for the menu after it's been moved in IE7, IE8 and IE8-as-IE7 (yeah MS, that's really a 'new rendering engine' in IE8, we all believe you). It works as expected in everything else. You can see the behaviour in a basic demo here. In the demo you can see two examples of the issue: The image behind the buttons should change on hover (done with a CSS :hover selector). It works on the first mouseover but then persists. The click event doesn’t fire – however with the dev tools you can manually call it and it is still subscribed. You can see (2) in IE8's dev tools: Open page in IE8 Open dev tools Select "Script" tab and "Console" sub-tab Type: $j('#testFloat div.ico:first').click() to manually call any subscribed events There will be an alert on the page This means that I'm not losing the event subscriptions, they're still there, IE's just not calling them when I click. Does anyone know why this bug occurs (other than just because of IE's venerable engine)? Is there a workaround? Could it be something that I'm doing wrong that just happens to work as expected in everything else?

  • Sending data in a GTK Callback

    - by snostorm
How can I send data through a GTK callback? I've Googled, and with the information I found created this: #include <gtk/gtk.h> #include <stdio.h> void button_clicked( GtkWidget *widget, GdkEvent *event, gchar *data); int main( int argc, char *argv[]){ GtkWidget *window; GtkWidget *button; gtk_init (&argc, &argv); window = gtk_window_new(GTK_WINDOW_TOPLEVEL); button = gtk_button_new_with_label("Go!"); gtk_container_add(GTK_CONTAINER(window), button); g_signal_connect_swapped(G_OBJECT(window), "destroy", G_CALLBACK(gtk_main_quit), NULL); g_signal_connect(G_OBJECT(button), "clicked", G_CALLBACK(button_clicked),"test" ); gtk_widget_show(window); gtk_widget_show(button); gtk_main(); return 0; } void button_clicked( GtkWidget *widget, GdkEvent *event, gchar *data){ printf("%s \n", (gchar *) data); return; } But it just Segfaults when I press the button. What is the right way to do this?

  • passing string to a AJAX/JSON function

    - by Mikey1980
I’m having trouble getting a AJAX/JSON function to work correctly. I had this function grabbing value from a drop down box but now I want to use an anchor tag to set it's value. I thought it would be easy to just use the onClick event to pass string to the function I was using for the drop down box but it doesn’t do anything. I’m stumped! Here how I set it up: 1st I add an onClick event… <a href="<?php echo Settings::get('app.webroot'); ?>?view=schedule&action=questions" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore();" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('bre','','template/images/schedule/bre_f2.gif',1) onclick="assignCallType('testing')";> 2nd I check main.js.php function assignCallType(type) { alert(type); //just for debugging new Request.JSON({ url: "ajax.php", onSuccess: function(rtndata, txt){ if (rtndata['STATUS'] != 'OK') alert('Error assigning call type to call'); }, onFailure: function (xhr) { alert('Error assigning call type to call'); } }).get({ 'action': 'assignCallType', 'call_type': type }); } 3rd Ajax.php: the variable is back in PHP and values don’t get added to the db, but I also didn’t get the alert from main.js.php if ($_GET['action'] == "assignCallType") { if ($USER->isInsideSales()) { $call_type = $_GET['call_type']; $_SESSION['callinfo']->setCallType($call_type); $_SESSION['callinfo']->save($callid); echo json_encode(array('STATUS'=>'OK')); } else { echo json_encode(array('STATUS'=>'DENIED')); } } Any idea where I am going wrong. The only difference between this and the working drop down is how the function was called, I used onchange="assignCallType(this.value)".

  • String replacement on a whole text file in Python 3.x?

    - by SkippyFire
How can I replace a string with another string, within a given text file. Do I just loop through readline() and run the replacement while saving out to a new file? Or is there a better way? I'm thinking that I could read the whole thing into memory, but I'm looking for a more elegant solution... Thanks in advance

  • PHP CSV, how to get previous and next 3 rows from current row

    - by Kalpesh Mehta
I am currently using fgetcsv in php to get rows in CSV file. For each row, I need it's 3 previous rows and 3 next rows for some requirement. while(($data = fgetcsv($handle, 5000, ",")) !== FALSE) { //$data is current row data //I need previous rows and next rows data } I don't know how to try this, as each while iterate will be having the current row's information. Is there anything we can achieve this within the fgetcsv loop? I am also open for other alternatives for this problem.

  • return ArrayList from spring controller for ajax call and render in second dropdown

    - by user1708125
I've a spring bean with 3 Maps all of which are to be populated incrementally. First map is an item category list, second map is a product list and third map is a hobby for item type list All the maps are mapped to and on the JSP. When the page is loaded only the first map is populated on the onchange event of first map, I need to populate the second map in the bean and similarly on the onchange event of second map, I need to populate the third map in the bean. Is there a way to do this using Ajax?? I need some code samples to how to render JSON response in second and third dropdown. Clarification: @Donal: I have a simple JSP page with 3 dropdowns corresponding to 3 maps stored in my commandBean. So when the page loads for the first time only the first map and hence the first dropdown is populated. Now whenever the user selects anything out of the first dropdown, I need to send the same commandbean back with the values of the first dropdown and get the values for the second map and hence the second dropdown and so forth for the 3rd dropdown as well. For each dropdown I 've got 3 maps and 3 variables for storing the selected values. Now I want to understand if this is possible using Ajax. I hope this clarifies whatever you need to know. Thanx

  • Create thumbnail and reduce image size

    - by oo
I have very large images (jpg) and i want to write a csharp program to loop through the files and reduce the size of each image by 75%. I tried this: Image thumbNail = image.GetThumbnailImage(800, 600, null, new IntPtr()); but the file size is still very large. Is there anyway to create thumbnails and have the filesize be much smaller?

  • Drupal Ubercart: error in passing values back to the Content Type after checkout

    - by user512826
I am trying to set up event registration in a drupal site using Ubercart + the UC Node Checkout Module. I have followed the instructions provided in http://drupaleasy.com/blogs/ultimike/2009/03/event-registration-ubercart. However I seem to be unable to pass the Order ID and Payment Status back to the node. I have created a conditional action that on node checkout executes the following PHP code: I am using the following code to update the node on checkout - but nothing happens: if (isset($order)) { foreach ($order->products as $product) { if (isset($product->data['node_checkout_nid'])) { $node = node_load($product->data['node_checkout_nid']); $node->field_status['0']['value'] = 1; $node->field_orderid['0']['value'] = $order->order_id; node_save($node); } } } I know the conditional action is working because it prints dsm('hello world') messages on node checkout - however when I include a dsm($node) or dsm($product) in the PHP code, they return blank. Also when I go back to my product and click the 'Devel' tab, the 'data' string contains the following characters: a:1:{s:13:"form_build_id";s:37:"form-3ccc03345f4832c69666a89c560de940";} In this link http://www.ubercart.org/forum/support/10951/node_checkout_issue I found someone else with the same issue, but I have been unable to replicate his solution. Can anybody please help? Thanks so much!

  • RegEx to reverse order of list?

    - by quantomcat
Is there a singular regular expression that can be used in, say, a text editor's search/replace dialog to reverse the order of the items in a list? For instance, take this list: First item Second item Third item Select it in a text editor like EditPad, bring up the search and replace box, apply a regex (run as a loop or not) and turn it into: Third item Second item First item Can this be done?

  • Execute a block of database querys

    - by Nightmare
I have the following task to complete: In my program a have a block of database querys or questions. I want to execute these questions and wait for the result of all questions or catch an error if one question fails! My Question object looks like this (simplified): public class DbQuestion(String sql) { [...] } [...] //The answer is just a holder for custom data... public void SetAnswer(DbAnswer answer) { //Store the answer in the question and fire a event to the listeners this.OnAnswered(EventArgs.Empty); } [...] public void SetError() { //Signal an Error in this query! this.OnError(EventArgs.Empty); } So every question fired to the database has a listener that waits for the parsed result. Now I want to fire some questions asynchronous to the database (max. 5 or so) and fire an event with the data from all questions or an error if only one question throws one! Which is the best or a good way to accomplish this task? Can I really execute more then one question parallel and stop all my work when one question throws an error? I think I need some inspiration on this... Just a note: I´m working with .NET framework 2.0

  • Which network protocol to use for lightweight notification of remote apps (Delphi 2005)

    - by Chris Thornton
I have this situation.... Client-initiated SOAP 1.1 communication between one server and let's say, tens of thousands of clients. Clients are external, coming in through our firewall, authenticated by certificate, https, etc.. They can be anywhere, and usually have their own firewalls, NAT routers, etc... They're truely external, not just remote corporate offices. They could be in a corporate/campus network, DSL/Cable, even Dialup. Currently, clients push new data to the server and pull new data from the server on 15-minute polling loop. The server currently does not push data - the client hits the "messagecount" method, to see if there is new data to pull. If 0, it sleeps for another 15 min and checks again. We're trying to get that down to 7 seconds. If this were an internal app, with one or just a few dozen clients, we'd write a cilent "listener" soap service, and would push data to it. But since they're external, sit behind their own firewalls, and sometimes private networks behind NAT routers, this is not practical. So we're left with polling on a much quicker loop. 10K clients, each checking their messagecount every 10 seconds, is going to be 1000/sec messages that will mostly just waste bandwidth, server, firewall, and authenticator resources. So I'm trying to design something better than what would amount to a self-inflicted DoS attack. I don't think it's practical to have the server send soap messages to the client (push) as this would require too much configuration at the client end. But I think there are alternatives that I don't know about. Such as: 1) Is there a way for the client to make a request for GetMessageCount() via Soap 1.1, and get the response, and then perhaps, "stay on the line" for perhaps 5-10 minutes to get additional responses in case new data arrives? i.e the server says "0", then a minute later in response to some SQL trigger (the server is C# on Sql Server, btw), knows that this client is still "on the line" and sends the updated message count of "5"? 2) Is there some other protocol that we could use to "ping" the client, using information gathered from their last GetMessageCount() request? 3) I don't even know. I guess I'm looking for some magic protocol where the client can send a GetMessageCount() request, which would include info for "oh by the way, in case the answer changes in the next hour, ping me at this address...". Also, I'm assuming that any of these "keep the line open" schemes would seriously impact the server sizing, as it would need to keep many thousands of connections open, simultaneously. That would likely impact the firewalls too, I think. Is there anything out there like that? Or am I pretty much stuck with polling? TIA, Chris

  • How do I capture keystrokes on the web?

    - by Sean
    Using PHP, JS, or HTML (or something similar) how would I capture keystokes? Such as if the user presses ctrl+f or maybe even just f, a certain function will happen. ++++++++++++++++++++++++EDIT+++++++++++++++++++ Ok, so is this correct, because I can't get it to work. And I apologize for my n00bness is this is an easy question, new to jQuery and still learning more and more about JS. <script> var element = document.getElementById('capture'); element.onkeypress = function(e) { var ev = e || event; if(ev.keyCode == 70) { alert("hello"); } } </script> <div id="capture"> Hello, Testing 123 </div> ++++++++++++++++EDIT++++++++++++++++++ Here is everything, but I can't get it to work: <link rel="icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon"> <style> * { margin: 0px } div { height: 250px; width: 630px; overflow: hidden; vertical-align: top; position: relative; background-color: #999; } iframe { position: absolute; left: -50px; top: -130px; } </style> <script> document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].onkeyup = function(e) { var ev = e || event; if(ev.keyCode == 70 && ev.ctrlKey) { //control+f alert("hello"); } } </script> <div id="capture"> Hello, Testing 123<!--<iframe src="http://www.pandora.com/" scrolling="no" width="1000" height="515"frameborder="0"></iframe>--> </div>

  • Global mouseMove

    - by Jacob Kofoed
I have made the following javascript to be used in my jQuery based website. What it does, is to move a slider up/down, and scale the item above higher/smaller. Everything works fine, but since the slider is only a few pixels in height, and the move event is a bit slow (it does not trigger for every pixel) so when I move the mouse fast, the slider can't hold on and the mouse get's out of the slider item. The mouseMove event won't be triggered no more since it is bound to the slider. I guess everything could be fixed by setting the mouseMove global to the whole site, but it won't work, or at least I don't know how to make that work. Should it be bound to document, or body? here is my current code for the slider: $.fn.resize = function (itemToResize) { MinSize = 100; MaxSize = 800; pageYstart = 0; sliderMoveing = false; nuskriverHeight = 0; this.mousedown(function(e) { pageYstart=e.pageY; sliderMoveing = true nuskriverHeight = parseFloat((itemToResize).css('height')); }); this.mouseup(function() { sliderMoveing = false }); this.mousemove(function(e) { if (sliderMoveing) { (itemToResize).css('height', (nuskriverHeight + (e.pageY - pageYstart))); if (parseFloat( (itemToResize).css('height')) > MaxSize) { (itemToResize).css('height', MaxSize) }; if (parseFloat( (itemToResize).css('height')) < MinSize) { (itemToResize).css('height', MinSize) }; }; }); }; Thanks for any help, is much appreciated

  • Is there a more efficient way to do this?

    - by garethdn
    I'm hoping there is a better way to the following. I'm creating a jigsaw-type application and this is the current code i'm using: -(void) touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; //location of current touch CGPoint location = [touch locationInView:self.view]; if ([touch view] == img1) { [self animateFirstTouch:img1 withLocation:location]; } else if ([touch view] == img2) { [self animateFirstTouch:img2 withLocation:location]; } else if ([touch view] == img3) { [self animateFirstTouch:img3 withLocation:location]; } else if ([touch view] == img4) { [self animateFirstTouch:img4 withLocation:location]; } else if { ...... ...... } else if ([touch view] == img40) { [self animateFirstTouch:img40 withLocation:location]; return; } } I'm hoping that there is a better, more efficieny way to do this, rather than naming every image. I'm thinking something like, if touch view is equal to a UIImageView, then perform some task. The same for touchesEnded: -(void) touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; //location of current touch CGPoint location = [touch locationInView:self.view]; if ([touch view] == image1) { [self animateReleaseTouch:image1 withLocation:location]; } else if ([touch view] == image2) { [self animateReleaseTouch:image2 withLocation:location]; } else if ([touch view] == image3) { [self animateReleaseTouch:image3 withLocation:location]; } else if ([touch view] == image4) { [self animateReleaseTouch:image4 withLocation:location]; } else if{ ...... ...... } else if ([touch view] == image40) { [self animateReleaseTouch:image40 withLocation:location]; } return; } Any help please?
