• What scenarios/settings will result in a query on SQL Server (2008) return stale data

  Most applications rarely need to display 100% accurate data. For example if this stack overflow question displays that there have been 0 views, when there have really been 10, it doesn't really matter. This is one way that the (perceived) performance of applications can be improved, by caching results and therefore sometimes not showing 100% accurate results. There are some cases where the data does need to be 100% accurate though. So if I run the query select * from Foo I want to be sure that the results are not stale. Now depending on how my database is set up, other activity on the database, use of transactions and isolation levels etc this query may or may not be a true reflection of the world. What scenario's and settings can people think of that will result in this query returning stale results or given that another connection is part way through a transaction that has updated this table, how can I guarantee that when the above query returns, the results will be accurate.

• Horizontal scroll in rich:panel to default right to left

  I have a rich:panel with a style="overflow: scroll" tag inside. By default, the scroll slides left to right. I am constantly adding a new dataTable to a dataGrid with the click of a button and I want the user to always see the most recent one, and since I have it set up so that each dataTable is added as a column to the dataGrid, the most recent one will always be on the right side of the dataGrid. Is there a way I can default the scroll to go right to left? Or maybe creating the columns from right to left?

• TPageControl tab area OnMouseEnter OnMouseLeave events

  Hello, I need to catch the "OnMouseEnter" and "0nMouseLeave" for a certain area of the TPageControl component. With that specific area I mean the whole "tab header" rectangle. The problem is, that the page control doesn't catch the messages (I'm catching internal control messages CM_MOUSEENTER and CM_MOUSELEAVE) in the "empty" space. The aim for me is to draw a small arrow in the right empty side when user hovers in the red framed area (and drawing is just piece of cake) and erase it when leaves this area. And I'm don't care about the overflow of the tabs (which causes to draw scrolling double button) - that will never happen.

• Mod_rewrite trouble: Want to direct from ?= to a flat link, nothing seems to work.

  I have a site that currently serves results as example.com/index.php?show=foo and I'd like it to read example.com/show/foo. My understanding is this would make them visible to search engine robots, and it seems a much simpler way to do this than to create a couple hundred html files... • jQuery accordion: is there a way to make the scrollbar fit the displayed panel?

  I have a jQuery accordion (jQuery 1.3.2, jQuery UI 1.7.2), with between 3-12 content panels. Some of the content panels are large, and have lots of content. some are small, and have only a little. When I expand any of them, the scrollbar on the div containing the accordion (it's got css overflow: auto;) is set as if the largest of the panels is expanded. Let's say I have 3 panels. One has 3 lines of content, one has 20 lines, and one has 1000 lines. If I expand either of the first two, the scrollbar indicator gets very very tiny, and moves all the way to the top, even though there is nothing worth scrolling. Is there a way to fix this? It seems like autoHeight:false ought to do it, but that doesn't work for me.

• How to reset persistent scrollbar position after div refresh in FF3?

  Hi, I'm experiencing a weird scrollbar issue. I'm building a page that uses jQuery and PHP to dynamically load images into a DIV sequentially. This DIV is a fixed height but uses a scrollbar for its variable width. The problem is that the scrollbar does not reset after a dynamic refresh of the DIV. So when the user scrolls and then refreshes with new content, the scroll bar position stays persistent instead of resetting back to the left. This seems to only happen in FF3. The scrollbar resets perfectly fine in Chrome, Safari, and IE8. For each refresh, the DIV is hidden, emptied, sized with CSS, then sequentially appended with images. I've tried resetting white-space: normal before the nowrap, playing around with overflow, and also jQuery's scrollLeft to no avail. It still behaves strangely in FF3, and only FF3. http://www.shadowshapes.com/uttdev/ Click a thumbnail, move the scrollbar then click another thumb. Thanks for any help!

• How to make an element slide with the viewport as it scrolls?

  I've Googled for this but must be using the wrong keywords. Basically I want to use the effect that Magento and now Stack Overflow uses. That is, there is an element in a column, and when you scroll down, it sticks to the top of the viewport. And once scrolled up again, it goes back into the normal page flow. This Ask A Question is a good page for example. Scroll down and watch the "How to Format" element come down (might need to make your viewport smaller if you have a large screen to see the effect). I've noticed it is setting position: fixed in the CSS. The JavaScript however is obfuscated. What's the easiest way to achieve this effect? Is there a jQuery plugin available?

• C: Why does gcc allow char array initialization with string literal larger than array?

  int main() { char a[7] = "Network"; return 0; } A string literal in C is terminated internally with a nul character. So, the above code should give a compilation error since the actual length of the string literal Network is 8 and it cannot fit in a char[7] array. However, gcc (even with -Wall) on Ubuntu compiles this code without any error or warning. Why does gcc allow this and not flag it as compilation error? gcc only gives a warning (still no error!) when the char array size is smaller than the string literal.   First off, I'm sorry if this shows no code which is not what Stack Overflow is about..But I have no clue where to go on this. I have a basic CMS I made, and I am trying to distribute it. I want to make it so that upon going to /cms/install for example, they set the database info, and different info to integrate into the CMS. Now my issue is, what would be the best method to allow the user to store that database info? A cookie seems to not be the right way..Could I store database info inside of a database? Not too sure where to go on this. More or less. What is the best way to temporarily store the database information the user gave before arrival of the full CMS.

This is how it looks in firefox: and here's how it looks in chrome: As you can see, in chrome (and safari) the page is not stretched to fit the entire screen. • IE7 cutting off image

  Hi all I have 3 divs with rollover images inside them stacked vertically inside my main content div. IE7 is chopping off about three quarters of the bottom div and I can't figure out why.   Hi - I have this script on my html page: parent.resizeTo(550,510); I'd like to add to it so it positions the window in the middle of the screen. Also, I want to remove the address and tool bars (I've managed to hide the scrollbars by using body{overflow:hidden;}). Recently I changed architectures, from FreeBSD 10.0 i386 to amd64, and I am still working through shared library incompatibilities. I suspect that this could be involved, but I can't imagine how an incompatibility of this sort could result in such a specific, isolated failure.
