• iPhone application-Memory handling issues

  Hi All, I am having some memory management issues in my app. Maybe someone may help me out here. 1) While checking for leaks in intruments, when I deploy and run the app on device, the virtual memory utilized, starts from 50 MB(even though i've just launched the app and am on the first screen). My resources contribute to 2.6 MB of it and I don't know what is contributing for the rest. What is the ideal utilization of virtual memory for an app? 2) In certain screen of the app, user is allowed to click a picture from the camera. In Instruments, I observe that virtual memory utilization jumps around 20MB, on the invocation of camera. Is it normal and can it be decreased? Looking forward to hear a reply soon.   So, I'm starting a new Project in my company, and it's kinda big. We are going to use .NET 3.5, and I wish to known if there are any know bugs or perfomance issues that could give weird behaviour for my project? I'm reading some things about EFv4 and all they say is that EFv3.5 have too many problems. After all, what's the best and fastest way, ADO.NET Entities or extract the data from my DB directly to a DataReader? The EF Oracle provider is stable? The project will be .NET 3.5 and Oracle.

• Issues with Ext-JS 1.1 date fields and Firefox 3.x / IE 8

  I'm modifying an older website for a client that uses Ext-JS 1.1 and I'm having issues with display of date fields in IE and particularly Firefox. The site was left in a semi-implemented state previously, so there's not been a perceived problem before. In Chrome and Safari everything looks fine and the datepicker drops down and displays correctly. However in Firefox the picker is displayed widened to cover the maximum scrollable brower width (very wide indeed), and in IE it's truncated to about two thirds of the width it should be. I am somewhat uncertain that this is due to our css, but because Chrome and Safari work fine I think it might be a problem with Ext-js itself. I realise that this is an old version of Ext-JS, but because everything else works fine I don't want to go to the trouble of upgrading unless that would be very straightforward (but how difficult would that be?) I don't myself use ExtJS and this is the only website my client has with it - so I'm really looking for the simplest possible solution.

  First time i am going to work on (maintenance project) application that is already in production.The application was developed in ASP.net 3.5/C# 3.0(web forms) with jQuery,Ajax,Sql server 2005 and microsoft enterprise library 4.0.,WCF services. Questions (bear with me if my question is wrong) 1) Is it possible to use Visual Studio (2008 with SP1) to debug the remote application (i.e already in production)?.What are the tools do i need to use in order to keep track the things in case something went wrong? 2) Simply looking into Log file ,will solve the issues? 3) After having done with enhancements,is it possible to directly deploy the DLLs into production server.Won't it affect the running application?   I'm trying to set an input box with a specific internal height, and I'm running into issues: font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; height: 12px; display: block; padding: 5px; Is a sample of what I put in inline styles or stylesheets. I would expect the input box value to be visible at full height, but the inner height of the input box ends up being really small, and it always seems to follow the form: actual inner height = css height - 2*border width - 2*padding Funny, because I swear I've done this before without issue. What am I missing?

• MonoDevelop/GTK OS X Usability Issues?

  Does anyone else have infuriating usability issues while trying to work with MonoDevelop in OS X Snow Leopard? The ones that interrupt my flow the most are associated with button clicks not responding until I move the window around a little bit. Afterwards, I can get maybe one or two button presses in before I have to repeat moving the window around. I've heard this is a GTK problem that has nothing to do with MonoDevelop in the past and would like to know if anyone else experiences this or has found a way to fix it?

• Image Uploading - security issues

  Hi, I'm developing an ASP.NET Web app and would like the user to be able to either upload an image from their local system, or pass in a URL to an image. The image can either be a JPG or PNG. What security issues should I be concerned about doing this? I've seen various ways of embedding code within JPG files. Are there any methods in C# (or external libraries) which can confirm that a file is a JPG/PNG, otherwise throw an error? At the very least, I'm making the directory which holds uploaded images non-browsable and putting a max size limit of 1mb, but I'd like to implement further checks. Thanks for any advice.

• Issues while downloading document from Sharepoint using JAVA

  I am trying to download a file from Sharepoint 2007 sp2 document library using GetItem method of the Copy webservice. I am facing the following issues : In the local instance ( Windows Vista ) I can save only 10.5 Kb of any file. The webservice is returning only 10.5 Kb of data for any file. On the production server, I am able to List the documents using some credentials but when I am trying to download a document using the same credentials I get a 401 : Unauthorized message. I can download the document using the Sharepoint website successfully.

• IIS 7.5 powershell module usage issues

  Has anyone managed to use this module with success, i'm running 32bit Windows 7, where i have opened an administrator shell using run as administrator, i have imported the WebAdministration module and then attempted to use the commands with some issues, have provided two examples here Websites I created a web site with the following command new-website -name testsite -port 80 -hostheader testsite -physicalpath c:\temp Then i attempted to get the sites details using the command get-website -name testsite but it always returns all sites, seems to ignore the -name parameter. Only way i can get the site is using a filter get-website | ? { $_.name -eq 'testsite' } | get-member When i use appcmd it works as expected using the following command C:\> C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list site testsite AppPools When i try to list the apppools using the following command dir iis:\apppools i get the following error Get-ChildItem : Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) Yet when i use appcmd as follows i get all the apppools as expected without any error C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list apppool Has anyone successfully managed to use the WebAdministration module ? • Installing Ruby On Rails - Issues with gem (and no RVM)

  I'm having this issue whenever i run "gem install rails": usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/yaml.rb:56:in `<top (required)>': It seems your ruby installation is missing psych (for YAML output). To eliminate this warning, please install libyaml and reinstall your ruby. ERROR: Loading command: install (LoadError) cannot load such file -- zlib ERROR: While executing gem ... (NameError) uninitialized constant Gem::Commands::InstallCommand Ruby and Rubygems were both installed from source. I've installed libyaml from source and from apt-get. I'm running ubuntu 12.04. I am NOT running RVM as far as I know (trying "rvm" returns "bla bla bla not installed apt-get". I'm pretty sure this speaks of 2 separate issues but I need solutions to both. Thanks.

• Python unicode issues (2.6)

  I'm currently working on a irc bot for a multi-lingual channel, and I'm encountering some issues with unicode which are proving nearly impossible to solve. No matter what configuration of unicode encoding I seem to try, the list function which the below code sits within just flat out does nothing (c.notice is a class function which sends a NOTICE command to the irc server) or when it does do something, spits out something which obviously isn't encoded. The command should be sending ??, but instead it seems hellbent on sending å¤©å­ with a previous configuration of the same commands. The one I have specified below is of the 'send nothing' variety. I haven't worked with unicode before this, and thus I am quite stuck. I'm also positive that I'm doing this completely wrong as a consequence. • How to debug CSS/Javascript hover issues

  I often find myself wanting to debug CSS layout issues that involve DOM changes caused by Javascript in reaction to a hover event or different CSS rules applying due to the :hover selector. Normally, I'd use Firebug to inspect the element that's giving me trouble and see what its CSS properties were, and where those properties come from. However, when hovering is involved, it becomes impossible, because as soon as you move your mouse down to the Firebug panel, the elements you're interested in are no longer hovered, the CSS rules that apply are different, and (in the case of JS hovers) the DOM is changed. Is there any way I can "freeze" the state of the DOM and application of :hover in order to inspect the DOM as it was during a hover event? Any other ideas on how to debug this sort of issue are welcome, of course.

  I have an SSIS package that works fine. The package runs every night and takes about 4 hours to complete. I have am a newb to SSIS, so I want to see what my options are. I am not finding anything on the web about these two issues, so any advice is greatly appreciated. What to do when I have an external issue such as a power failure/accidental restart. Is there a way to alert someone or have the package begin again on restart. A couple weeks ago there was a process that got hung and locked table, making the process not execute. How is the best way to handle ensuring I have the proper access before starting and if not, get the access. I am ok with killing the processes etc. Looking for best practice info. Thanks

• Are concurrency issues possible when using the WCF Service Behavoir attribute set to ConcurrencyMode

  We have a WCF service that makes a good deal of transactional NHibernate calls. Occasionally we were seeing SQL timeouts, even though the calls were updating different rows and the tables were set to row level locking. After digging into the logs, it looks like different threads were entering the same point in the code (our transaction using block), and an update was hanging on commit. It didn't make sense, though, because we believed that the following service class attribute was forcing a unique execution thread per service call: [ServiceBehavior(ConcurrencyMode = ConcurrencyMode.Multiple, InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.PerCall)] We recently changed the concurrency mode to ConcurrencyMode.Single and haven't yet run into any issues, but the bug was very difficult to reproduce (if anyone has any thoughts on flushing a bug like that out, let me know!). Anyway, that all brings me to my question: shouldn't an InstanceContextMode of PerCall enforce thread-safety within the service, even if the ConcurrencyMode is set to multiple? How would it be possible for two calls to be serviced by the same service instance? Thanks!

  We are using Struts and having performance issues. And making heavy use of jsp includes, tiles, EL expressions. I am sure this is eating up a lot of memory and processing time. What are some approaches to profile the JSP page? What tools could I use? What should I look for when profiling? I have seen the code generated JSP Java Servlet Code and I see the bottlenecks but would rather measure it more accurately. This is under JDK1.5 and IBM Websphere 6.1 (RAD7)

• Size of font for \subsubsection is larget than for \section and \subsection

  I installed Doxygen 1.6.1. I used \section, \subsection and \subsubsection for titles. It surprisingly obtained titles for \subsubsection have large font set up than for \subsection and \section. What is wrong? How this can be fixed? CSS should be used to workaround this or can I fix my doxygen installation to obtain expected common behaviour?

  So, I have this code: } else { $photograph_moderation = new PhotographModeration($this->photograph_id); $photograph_moderation->purgePhotograph(); //eventually take to an error page die('image is not big enough to upload'); } the purgePhotograph() function gets called properly when this condition is met, but the script never appears to die. Is there a reason why die wouldn't get called here? purgePhotograph() has no script killing commands either.

• PL DOC source forge - 2 issues

  I'm attempting to use PLDOC source forge (http://pldoc.sourceforge.net/maven-site/) with my code to generate a neat page with comments of my liking. I'm coming across 2 issues, any help would be appreciated. 1 I've been using tags (/**, */) to make comments and this works perfectly for functions, but does not appear in procedures. My Functions and procedures are independent and not in packages, and trying to add comments before the PROCEDURE declaration just gets deleted when saved. 2 if i try to use the recommended method of getting the data directly from teh database (call pldoc.bat -url jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:ORCL -user SCOTT -password TIGER -sql SYS_OWNER.DBMS_PIPE,SYS_OWNER.DBMS_OUTPUT), it puts all the available functions and procedures under the user SIS_OWNER (SIS_owner is the only link available on the left hand side). I want to change this so that I can view all the methods in the list instead. Problem with procedures stated in 1 still exists with this method. Please let me know if you have overcome this and any pointers would be great. Thanks

  My accordion is working properly, but I'm having a few CSS and JS issues that are prohibiting it from displaying correctly. http://jsfiddle.net/frEWQ/ The JS is applying .ui-corners-all to the H3 before the "kwick" div below it has finished collapsing, giving an odd cut-off border during the animation The margin-bottom applied to the "kwick" div to give spacing between each tab disappears when the tab is set to display:none, getting rid of the spacing... but I can't apply the margin-bottom to the header because it disconnects the header from the "kwick" div below it. Any suggestions? Modification to the JS/CSS? Thanks

  Issues reading CSV file using OLEDB when filenamen have period. I have a code in C# that reads CSV File using OleDBProvider. It works perfect with filenames in regular format such as Budget.csv but failed when i renamed the file into Budget.DKK.csv or Budget.USD.csv I throws this exception: he Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'Budget.DKK.csv'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly. I have no idea so far why is this happenning.

Also, I am open to suggestions for optimizing the query - adding more index on the tables etc...   Hi all, I'm having trouble coming up with a solution for the following issue. Lets say i have a db that looks something like the following: Issue Table Id | Details | CreateDate | ClosedDate Issue Notes Table Id | ObjectId | Notes | NoteDate Issue Assignment Table Id | ObjectId | AssignedToId| AssignedDate I'd like allow the linking of an issue to another issue. I thought about adding a column to the Issue table called ParentIssueId and that would allow me the ability to link issues, but i foresee circular references occurring within the issue table if i go through with this implementation. Is there a better way to go about doing this, and if so, how? Thanks

  I am making a small C++ framework, which contains many .h and .cpp. I have created a general include which include all my .h file such as: framework.h #include "A.h" #include "B.h" #include "C.h" each .h header are protected with include guard such as #ifndef A_HEADER #define A_HEADER ... #endif The issues is, I would like to be able to include "framework.h" inside all the sub .h such as, but it cause lots of compiler error: #ifndef A_HEADER #define A_HEADER #include "framework.h" ... #endif If instead I use the real header file for each sub header, and the framework.h for what ever use my framework it works fine.. I would just like to include the main header inside all my sub .h so I dont need to include all the dependency everytime. Thanks :)
