  • Windows server administration over web browser

    I wonder if there is a software which can control Windows server over a browser. I know it sounds is strange however I haven't seen any and as you can do scripting with *nix system I think it could be a good one. Functions that I am after: User management Printer install msi assign I know there are many programmes including a win server but I would like to do it only one surface. Has anyone come a cross such a thing like this?

    We have a workstation using Win7 on a LAN with a domain. On that workstation we set up some network shares. Can we find who used (user name and/or computer name) and when the shares? Note that we know about Computer Management System Tools Shared Folders Open Files. We don't want to see so much real-time who's using the shares but we are interested more in a logging solution, ideally interpreting / using the data from Win7's Event Viewer.

  • Results copied from SSMS splitting across columns when pasted into Excel

    SSMS 2008 - Excel 2003 This isn't happening all the time, but sometimes when I 'copy with headers' from sql server management studio, the results in Excel look as though I've used the 'text to columns' wizard with 'spaces' and 'brackets' as delimiters, meaning that the results become raggedly distributed across columns making them useless I've looked in the 'grid output' query options but can't see anything which may be causing the issue (not sure if this should be on superuser?)

  • Activate Grub to show up at start up ?

    I used to have both windows vista and ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop and i could choose which one to start at start up. But now I only have ubuntu 10,04 on my laptop and because there is only one operating system on my laptop the grub window doesn't show up. I need it because sometimes I need to start my ubuntu in recovery mode with no graphics, I checked and grub is already installed, how can I activate it at start up ? ( by the way : I have grub2 ) Thanks in advance

    I have to run clamav on large files. I was wondering which command was the fastest between clamscan and clamdscan. But it seems that clamdscan is not working properly: it scans file larger than 1 GB. Could you guys help me find why the heck clamdscan isn't working ? Between clamscan and clamdscan which one is less resource consuming ? I run ClamAV 0.97.8/18037 on Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS.     I have a file share, and I want a process which enumerates files on that share and automatically creates a 7z self-extracting exe of files over 1 month old. On a different share, I want to create a 7z self-extracting exe of directories that are over 1 month old. Any idea if there is a program which can do this? I already have 7z a -t7z -mx9 -sfx filename.exe filename.txt Portion of it, just need more of the auto-management portion.

  • Ubuntu Server VM: copy paste?

    I've installed Ubuntu Server under Virtualbox just to get a nice little shell. I've also installed the VirtualBox "Guest Additions" and set "Shared Clipboard: Bidirectional". I still can't seem to get any copy-paste working. Am I missing something here? I've installed gpm which gives mouse support in server mode (no X), and allows copy-paste using the mouse, but still the VirtualBox integration doesn't work.

  • Buffer requests in nginx while a symlink switches on backend

    In a release deployment I would like to buffer client requests that come to nginx(in reverse proxy) mode to be buffered for possibily 1-2 seconds while a pdsh request is sent to switch symlinks on the back end server to /var/www/html/current . After the switch is complete, I would want to release the buffering while avoiding a herd clash. Is this possible in nginx? Can someone help? Edit: The idea is not to loose requests and from nginx forums I've come to know that retries can sometimes results in CPU spins
