• LogCat acting patchy

  The LogCat output in eclipse suddenly started weird. It sometimes shows all the output as expected. Other times it just doesn't show anything - is completely blank. After some internet research, I thought Mylyn plugin might be responsible. So I tried de-selecting "Mylyn Tasks UI" & "Mylyn Team UI" on eclipse Window -- Preferences -- General -- Startup and Shutdown -- programs that are started at startup. No Luck. Has anyone else encountered & solved this problem?

  Which programming language would you recommend to learn about data structures and algorithms in? Considering the follwing: Personal experience Language features (pointers, OO, etc) Suitability for learning DS & A concepts I ask because there are some books out there that are programming language-agnostic (written from a Mathematical perspective, and use pseudocode). If I learn from one of these I would like to work out the algorithms in a chosen language. Then, there are other books which introduce DS & A concepts with examples in a particular programming laguage - and I would follow these examples as well. Either way, I have to choose a language, and I would like to stick to one throughout. Which one best fits the bill.

  Hi guys. Trying to fiddle around with regex here, my first attempt. Im trying to extract some figures out of content from an XML tag. The content looks like this: www.blahblah.se/maps.aspx?isAlert=true&lat=51.958855252721&lon=-0.517657021473527 I need to extract the lat and long numerical vales out of each link. They will always be the same amount of characters, and the lon may or may not have a "-" sign. • How to wait for the user to select one of the datagridview rows?

  I have a datagridview populated with some Names, I want to perform a check of all the Name in another database with the Names in datagridview and add the Surnames to the adjacent cell when a match is found, this I am achieving by string compare method. My Problem is that due to typing inconsistencies & at times with two people having same names some of the names are not being adjudged properly. What I want is to give user the choice to either choose one of the names present in Datagridview which they consider is best match or enter both First Name & Surname in a new row. To achieve this I want the program to wait until user has clicked on one of the rows in the datagridview. Is there a way to wait to this effect? Thanks Jhon

• Getting ssh to execute a command in the background on target machine

  This is a follow-on question to the How do you use ssh in a shell script? question. If I want to execute a command on the remote machine that runs in the background on that machine, how do I get the ssh command to return? When I try to just include the ampersand (&) at the end of the command it just hangs. The exact form of the command looks like this: ssh user@target "cd /some/directory; program-to-execute &" Any ideas? One thing to note is that logins to the the target machine always produce a text banner and I have ssh keys set up so no password is required.

• How can I read/write data from a file?

  I'm writing a simple chrome extension. I need to create the ability to add sites URLs to a list, or read from the list. I use the list to open the sites in the new tabs. I'm looking for a way to have a data file I can write to, and read from. I was thinking on XML. I read there is a problem changing the content of files with Javascript. Is XML the right choice for this kinda thing? I should add that there is no web server, and the app will run locally, so maybe the problem websites are having are not same as this. Before I wrote this question, I tried one thing, and started to feel insecure because it didn't work. • Convert Decimal to ASCII

  I'm having difficulty using reinterpret_cast. Before I show you my code I'll let you know what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to get a filename from a vector full of data being used by a MIPS I processor I designed. Basically what I do is compile a binary from a test program for my processor, dump all the hex's from the binary into a vector in my c++ program, convert all of those hex's to decimal integers and store them in a DataMemory vector which is the data memory unit for my processor. I also have instruction memory. So When my processor runs a SYSCALL instruction such as "Open File" my C++ operating system emulator receives a pointer to the beginning of the filename in my data memory. So keep in mind that data memory is full of ints, strings, globals, locals, all sorts of stuff. When I'm told where the filename starts I do the following: Convert the whole decimal integer element that is being pointed to to its ASCII character representation, and then search from left to right to see if the string terminates, if not then just load each character consecutively into a "filename" string. Do this until termination of the string in memory and then store filename in a table. My difficulty is generating filename from my memory. I'm adding numbers to ArrayList like 156, 340 (when it is TransferIn or Buy) etc and then i remove them doing it like 156, 340 (when it's TransferOut, Sell). My solution works for that without a problem. The problem I have is that for some old data employees were entering sum's like 1500 instead of 500+400+100+500. How would I change it so that when there's Sell/TransferOut or Buy/Transfer In and there's no match inside ArrayList it should try to add multiple items from thatArrayList and find elements that combine into aggregate. I'm a complete novice with programming and I'm trying to get started with this Ruby on Rails tutorial (http://ruby.railstutorial.org/ruby-on-rails-tutorial-book?version=3.2) I have been trying figure this out for about 7 hours now and since I don't have any hair left to pull out I'm turning to these hallowed pages. I have searched for solutions here again and again. System: Mac OS X 10.7.5 Leopard, Xcode 4.5.2 I installed homebrew and have updated it multiple times I used homebrew to install rvm and have updated it multiple times I installed git The standard ruby on the system (checking with $ ruby -v) is 1.8.7 My problem is that every time I try to use rvm to install a new version of Ruby ($ rvm install 1.9.3) I get the following error: Ruby (and needed base gems) for your selection will be installed shortly. • Virtual Mode List View Click 1 Selects More Than One Items

  I have a list view with virtual mode set to true and other things. It doing ok. But 1) Say there are 25 items and 15 of them are visible, that is to see the rest of 10 items need to scroll down. 2) Before scrolling swap two items, say myItems[0], it must be visible & myItems[20], it must be not visible scroll required. 3) Now select the first item, it was swapped, you now have two items selected, both 0 indexed and 20 indexed ones. When after swap, those two list view items are of same Position and same Bounds. But before 20-indexed item's Position was (-1, -1) and Bounds was (0,0,0,0). How come 0-indexed item didn't change its position & size? How to solve this ?

I tried using 'join' but since I need to use multiple where clauses I can't figure out how to get this to work ..

• Scala simple dummy project.

FooMain But my project is getting bigger and I would like to split files, make unit tests, etc. But I'm too lazy for reading sbt documentation and doing whatever needs to be done to get a sbt's "Makefile". Similarly for unit tests (there are so many frameworks, which to choose?) What would make my day is a simple zipped dummy project with a dummy unit tests using sbt. Do you know whether such thing exists?

• Regular expression to match one of two video ID's in a Google Video URL

  I need to grab the video ID from a Google Video URL. There are two different types of URLs that I need to be able to match: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3498228245415745977# where I need to be able to match -3498228245415745977 (note the dash; -), and video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3498228245415745977#docid=2728972720932273543 where I need to match 2728972720932273543. Is there any good regular expression that can match this? This is what I've got so far: @"docid=(-?\d{19}+)" since the video ID seems to be 19 characters except when it's prefixed with the dash. I'm using C# (of which I have very little experience) if that changes anything. P.s. I would also appreciate you review my regular expressions for YouTube (@"[\?&]v=([^&#])";), RedTube (@"/(\d{1,6})") and Vimeo (@"/(\d*)"). I do not expect users to enter the full URL and thus do not match the ^http://\\.?sitename+\\.\\w{2,3}.

• c#: Design advice. Using DataTable or List<MyObject> for a generic rule checker

  Hi, I have about 100,000 lines of generic data. Columns/Properties of this data are user definable and are of the usual data types (string, int, double, date). There will be about 50 columns/properties. I have 2 needs: To be able to calculate new columns/properties using an expression e.g. Column3 = Column1 * Column2. Ultimately I would like to be able to use external data using a callback, e.g. Column3 = Column1 * GetTemperature The expression is relatively simple, maths operations, sum, count & IF are the only necessary functions. To be able to filter/group the data and perform aggregations e.g. Sum(Data.Column1) Where(Data.Column2 == "blah") As far as I can see I have two options: 1. Using a DataTable. = Point 1 above is achieved by using DataColumn.Expression = Point 2 above is acheived by using DataTable.DefaultView.RowFilter & C# code 2. Using a List of generic Objects each with a Dictionary< string, object to store the values. = Point 1 could be achieved by something like NCalc = Point 2 is achieved using LINQ DataTable: Pros: DataColumn.Expression is inbuilt Cons: RowFilter & coding c# is not as "nice" as LINQ, DataColumn.Expression does not support callbacks(?) = workaround could be to get & replace external value when creating the calculated column GenericList: Pros: LINQ syntax, NCalc supports callbacks Cons: Implementing NCalc/generic calc engine Based on the above I would think a GenericList approach would win, but something I have not factored in is the performance which for some reason I think would be better with a datatable. Does anyone have a gut feeling / experience with LINQ vs. DataTable performance? How about NCalc? As I said there are about 100,000 rows of data, with 50 columns, of which maybe 20 are calculated. In total about 50 rules will be run against the data, so in total there will be 5 million row/object scans. Would really appreciate any insights. Thx. ps. Of course using a database + SQL & Views etc. would be the easiest solution, but for various reasons can't be implemented.

  So I get the time at the beginning of the code, run it, and then get the time. struct timeval begin, end; gettimeofday(&begin, NULL); //code to time gettimeofday(&end, NULL); //get the total number of ms that the code took: unsigned int t = end.tv_usec - begin.tv_usec; Now I want to print it out in the form "**code took 0.007 seconds to run" or something similar. So two problems: 1) t seems to contain a value of the order 6000, and I KNOW the code didn't take 6 seconds to run. 2) How can I convert t to a double, given that it's an unsigned int? Or is there an easier way to print the output the way I wanted to?
