• What Kind of Knowledge is Necessary For a Permon Who Does Not Have IT Background? [closed]

  One of my colleagues joined our company, which by the way is a internet company, months ago as an on-line marketing specialist. He majored English in his college and has never deeply touched IT before. He says that to be a good on-line marketing specialist he needs to lean some basic IT skills in order to deliver superb work. According to him, things like Search Engine Optimization, monitoring competitors' web sites, design some functionality on web site and so on require IT entree-level knowledge. And he asks me what kind knowledge is helpful for him to do his job. I am stunted by his question. It is easy enough to answer, things like HTML, CSS, even Photo-shop are required in some job descriptions. Also, I believe some basic understanding of dynamic web site, static web site is helpful to him. On the other hand, as a techie I still feel my answer is awkward. What is your opinion on this? • Can't use where clause on correlated columns.

  I want to add a where clause to make sure video_count is greater than zero. Only categories which are referenced once or more in video_category.video_id should be returned. Because video_count is not a field in any table I cannot do this. Here is the query. • Testing for security vulnerabilities on web applications

  A lot of companies use CMS software that updates on the regular, often they are security fixes, implying that the previous version have security vulnerabilities. But most clients never upgrade this, or even the CMS has been modified so that an update would break the site. Are there sites that document these exploits, and instruct how to test for them? Or does this information not even get published? (in order not to have people try to exploit them) Also is there a generic php/js based check list to prevent hack attempts? I know about SQL injections and XSS, but I'm sure that there are more threats out there. Peace

• How do I list all non-system stored procedures?

  I want to create a query to list of all user defined stored procedures, excluding the ones that are system stored procedures, considering that: Checking the name like "sp_" doesn't work because there are user stored procedures that start with "sp_". Checking the property is_ms_shipped doesn't work because there are system stored procedures that have that flag = 0, for example: sp_alterdiagram (it is not MSShipped but appears under System Stored Procedures in SQL Server Management Studio). There must be a property, or a flag somewhere since you can see the "System Stored Procedures" in a separate folder in SQL 2005. Does anyone know? • Problems with overlapping ChildWindows in Silverlight

  Hello, I have a Silverlight application. At some point the app shows a ChildWindow with two datagrids and three buttons on it. One of the buttons is 'Reset To Defaults'. After it's pressed, the app shows another ChildWindow on top of the current one in order to ask confirmation. After the second ChildWindow is closed the first one starts to act funny. It's still changing highlighting of the elements on mouse events (mouseover on a grid element, click on a button). But clicking on the buttons doesn't fire my custom event handlers anymore. The only thing which is working on the ChildWindow is a small cross button created by the framework itself in the upper-right corner of the ChildWindow. I'd be grateful for any ideas on the cause of the problem or how to resolve it. Thanks.

  Hello, In my application I the next task that has not already been done by a user. I have Three models, A Book that has many Tasks and then I have a User that has has and belongs to many tasks. The table tasks_users table contains all completed tasks so I need to write a complex query to find the next task to perform. It's annotated as so: @OneToMany(fetch = FetchType.EAGER, cascade = { CascadeType.ALL }, orphanRemoval = true) @JoinTable(blah blah) private final List<Field> initialFields; Now I'm trying to use Projections in order to only pull certain fields for performance reasons, but when doing so the initialFields field is always null. It's the only OneToMany field and the only field I am trying to retrieve with the projection that is behaving this way. If I use a regular HQL query initialFields is populated appropriately, but of course I can't limit the fields. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

• PHP e-commerce site talking to internal database for stock / ordering?

I'm working on an e-commerce site (either bespoke with PHP, or using Drupal/Ubercart), and I'd like to investigate the site interacting with an internal (filemaker) database we use to manage stock and orders. Currently we manually transfer orders from the web site to our own database, and the site does not check or record changes in stock. My plan to allow the 2 to interact is as follows: Make the internal database available externaly on a machine with a fixed IP Allow external access from the site only Connect to the internal database using ODBC (or similar) Use simple queries to check stock / record stock changes / record order details Am I missing something here as this sounds quite straight forward?   I understand that in order to sum array elements in Ruby one can use the inject method, i.e. array = [1,2,3,4,5]; puts array.inject(0, &:+) But how do I sum the properties of objects within an object array e.g. There's an array of objects and each object has a property "cash" for example. So I want to sum their cash balances into one total. Something like... array.cash.inject(0, &:+) (but this doesn't work) I realise I could probably make a new array composed only of the property cash and sum this, but I'm looking for a cleaner method if possible!

• Need help from CSS purist!

  I'm beginning to use CSS more and more but I'm not sure if I'm using it as intended in all cases. I have classes named things like 'box' that will wrap the content inside it with a border, which seems like good CSS to me. On the other hand I have classes like 'margin-right-5' and 'float-left' that sets the css to margin-right: 5px and float:left respectively. I'm wondering if this is good practice. Then in my markup I'd do something like: <div class="box float-left margin-right-5"> <!-- CONTENT HERE --> </div> Sometimes I may want to float right or not have a margin at all and still use the 'box' class, so I use several classes in order to make the css more flexible. Am I destroying the principles of CSS?

  I've got an array of characters which contains a string: char buf[MAXBUFLEN]; buf[0] = 'f'; buf[1] = 'o'; buf[2] = 'o'; buf[3] = '\0'; I'm looking to pass this string as an argument to the gtk_text_buffer_insert function in order to insert it into a GtkTextBuffer. What I can't figure out is how to convert it to a const gchar *, which is what gtk_text_buffer_insert expects as its third argument. Can anybody help me out?

  I have a asp:SqlDataSource and asp:DropDownList components on my page. On normal page it works ok. Now I'd like to put this on new page with url like ...mypage.aspx?transactionID=2. In Page_Load I would like to set Transaction drop down selected index to 2. But it always binds to 1. I assume, that things happen in this order: in Page_Load I set selected index to 2. Then asp:SqlDataSource's select statement executes and binds to DropDownList. That's why selected index of my DropDownList is always 1, no matter what I set it in Page_Load. So, how can I bind asp:SqlDataSource to asp:DropDownList and also set it's selected index parameter to some integer?
