  • MVC Model architecture

    I'm getting into CodeIgniter and trying to figure out the good architecture for my models. What kind of models would you create for the following simple example: list page of blog entries: shows part of the entry data, number of comments blog entry page: shows all the entry data, comment list (with part of the comment data) comment page: shows all the comment data I'm trying to get this right so that it's simple and effective. I don't want to load too much information (from the db) on the pages where I don't need them. E.g. should the same entry model handle both multiple entries as well as a single entry? And how should the comments be loaded? I only need the number of comments on the multiple entries (list) page but some of the comment data on the single entry page. How would you handle this?

    I've got table vendorparts that lists all my parts and their vendor(s). Parts with multiple vendors have multiple records in this table. I'm trying to write a query that only returns the partid, and vendor of parts that do not have a default vendor assigned. Partid Vendor Defaultflag 1 A 1 2 B 0 2 C 0 3 D 0 3 E 0 3 F 1 4 G 0 I would like to return the following: Partid Vendor 2 A 2 B 4 G I'm obviously having issues with partid 3 and getting the query to see it as having a default vendor assigned.

    HI. I have multiple webpages. So I have a common external js file. And I have added this js file to every page. I have multiple check boxes in every page. And I have written the click event in the external, common js file. But I wonder how the js file should be? Currently I have written like this. $(document).ready(function() { $(".chk").click(function() { alert("hi"); }); }); But whenever I click a checkbox the click event is fired twice. it should be once. I dont know where is the error, is there any error in writing the js file? please comment.

  • Outlook AppointmentItem Write Event - how many times does it execute

    I need to perform some activity when an appointmentitem (or specifically a meeting) is saved. What I want is once the user has filled in the info and clicks 'send', Outlook does it's stuff and my code executes once. However what I'm finding, is that the Write event occurs multiple times - at least twice, sometimes more (eg in updates). Where this is an issue for me, is that I have an object that needs to be updated before it's serialized, and I don't want to be doing the update and serialization multiple times. Has anyone come across this issue, before and is there a better way to do this to use than appointmentitem.write?

    I am developing a website that will manage data for multiple entities. No data is shared between entities, but they may be owned by the same customer. A customer may want to manage all their entities from a single "dashboard". So should I have one database for everything, or keep the data seperated into individual databases? Is there a best-practice? What are the positives/negatives for having a: database for the entire site (entity has a "customerID", data has "entityID") database for each customer (data has "entityID") database for each entity (relation of database to customer is outside of database) Multiple databases seems like it would have better performance (fewer rows and joins) but may eventually become a maintenance nightmare.

Is there any Ubuntu equivalent to this? I would really love to SSH into my Ubuntu server via my Ubuntu laptop, just by connecting one end of the male USB to my laptop, and another end of the male USB to my server. I know I can always SSH into my server via the network, but then in this case of mine, there are cases the server is inside a secluded-secured network server room, and the only way for me to check things out is to go into the server room and open the keyboard console and monitor there. But, if I can just bring my laptop inside and connect to the USB there, then that would be cool. Any idea guys?

  • Finding Most Recent Order for a Particular Item

    I'm trying to write a SQL Query for DB2 Version 8 which retrieves the most recent order of a specific part for a list of users. The query receives a parameter which contains a list of customerId numbers and the partId number. For example, Order Table OrderID PartID CustomerID OrderTime I initially wanted to try: Select * from Order where OrderId = ( Select orderId from Order where partId = #requestedPartId# and customerId = #customerId# Order by orderTime desc fetch first 1 rows only ); The problem with the above query is that it only works for a single user and my query needs to include multiple users. Does anyone have a suggestion about how I could expand the above query to work for multiple users? If I remove my "fetch first 1 rows only," then it will return all rows instead of the most recent. I also tried using Max(OrderTime), but I couldn't find a way to return the OrderId from the sub-select. Thanks! Note: DB2 Version 8 does not support the SQL "TOP" function.

    The concept is running multiple functions concurrently. The reason is, I have a page which performs various actions through ajax. These actions includes making multiple backups of new files uploaded in the upload directory. But I want this process to be initiated by a moderator. As this is a very lengthy process(might even take hours to complete), it blocks others ajax requests from executing, until this process complete. I want to execute functions along with the previously executed function parallelly. I am using jQuery's Ajax to sent initiate the request.

    I am venturing on making a website with a database for baseball games for an intramural league. I have made databases before, but this project seems to have many fields that will require at least 3 tables. I want to make the tables correct, so that I can sort and gather information from multiple fields properly ( such as the team table querying total goals scored ). Is there a website where there is a MySQL tutorial on do's and don'ts for making somewhat complex databases? Not intro tutorials, but more around where you get into combining multiple pieces of information correctly. Any source would be helpful, thanks!

    If you have multiple, unrelated projects, is it a good idea to put them in the same repository? myRepo/projectA/trunk myRepo/projectA/tags myRepo/projectA/branches myRepo/projectB/trunk myRepo/projectB/tags myRepo/projectB/branches or would you create new repositories for each? myRepoA/trunk myRepoA/tags myRepoA/branches myRepoB/trunk myRepoB/tags myRepoB/branches What are the pros and cons of each? All that I can currently think of is that you get mixed revision numbers (so what?), and that you can't use svn:externals unless the repository is actually external. (i think?) The reason I ask is because I'm considering consolidating my multiple repos into one, since my SVN host has started charging per repo.

    So I know the convention for naming M-M relationship tables in SQL is to have something like so: For tables User and Data the relationship table would be called UserData User_Data or something similar (from here) What happens then if you need to have multiple relationships between User and Data, representing each in its own table? I have a site I'm working on where I have two primary items and multiple independent M-M relationships between them. I know I could just use a single relationship table and have a field which determines the relationship type, but I'm not sure whether this is a good solution. Assuming I don't go that route, what naming convention should I follow to work around my original problem?

  • Ubuntu will not install on my Dell Inspiron 580

    I'm trying to install ubuntu on my Inspiron 580 (Intel Core i3 4Gb Ram Intel HD Graphics) but am having no success installing from CD or Windows installer all result in a purple rapidly flashing screen with the Ubuntu with 5 dots below it splash which doesn't change. I have tried releases 12.04.1 LTS (CD and windows installer), 11.10 (CD after reading it was certified for the 580) and today 12.10 (CD) all produce the same install failure. My Dell 1704PT monitor is connected to the intel HD board using an HDMI to DVI adaptor though I have tried a VGA cable and still got the same flashing screen. Any help gratefully received as i want to get away from Windows 7 Home Premium.

    I have a method that I call multiple times, but each time a different method with a different signature is called from inside. public void MethodOne() { //some stuff *MethodCall(); //some stuff } So MethodOne is called multiple times, each time with a different *MethodCall(). What I'm trying to do is something like this : public void MethodOne(Func<> MethodCall) { //some stuff *MethodCall; //some stuff } but the Methods that are called each have a different return type and different parameters. Like we are in bundle/. and in bundle/ there are multiple subdirectories and multiple txt files I want to do something like find . -type f -exec grep "\<F8\>" {} \; want to get the file where it contain string < F8 this command does work, find the string, but never return filename I hope anyone can give me a better solution to this, like display filename along with the line containing that string

    I'm trying to create a subset of a table (as a materialized view), defined as those records which have a matching record in another materialized view. For example, let's say I have a Users table with user_id and name columns, and a Log table, with entry_id, user_id, activity, and timestamp columns. First I create a materialized view of the Log table, selecting only those rows with timestamp some_date. Now I want a materliazed view of the Users referenced in my snapshot of the Log table. I can either create it as select * from Users where user_id in (select user_id from Log_mview), or I can do select distinct u.* from Users u inner join Log_mview l on u.user_id = l.user_id (need the distinct to avoid multiple hits from users with multiple log entries). The former seems cleaner and more elegant, but takes much longer. Am I missing something? Is there a better way to do this?

    Need to share few information regarding SSL certificates and there types, which SSL certificates are widely used etc. There are several SSL certificates available in the market today inorder to secure your domains, multiple subdomains, your applications and code too. Few of the details are mentioned below. CheapSSL certificates available today are Standard Rapidssl certificate, Thwate SSL 123 etc certificates which are basic level certificates. Most of these cheap SSL certificates are domain-validated only and don't provide the greatest trust for your customers. This means you shouldn't use cheap SSL certificates on e-commerce stores or other public-facing sites that require people to trust the site. EV certificates I found Geotrust Truebusinessid with EV certificate which is one of the cheapest certificate available in market today, you can also find Thwate, Versign EV version of certificates. Its designed to prevent phishing attacks better than normal SSL certificates. What makes an EV Certificate so special? An SSL Certificate Provider has to do some extensive validation to give you one including: Verifying that your organization is legally registered and active, Verifying the address and phone number of your organization, Verifying that your organization has exclusive right to use the domain specified in the EV Certificate, Verifying that the person ordering the certificate has been authorized by the organization, Verifying that your organization is not on any government blacklists. SSL WILDCARD CERTIFICATES, SSL Wildcard Certificates are big money-savers. An SSL Wildcard Certificate allows you to secure an unlimited number of first-level sub-domains on a single domain name. For example, if you need to secure the following websites: * www.yourdomain.com * secure.yourdomain.com * product.yourdomain.com * info.yourdomain.com * download.yourdomain.com * anything.yourdomain.com and all of these websites are hosted on the multiple server box, you can purchase and install one Wildcard certificate issued to *.yourdomain.com to secure all these sites. CODE SIGNING CERTIFICATES, A code signing certificate is a file containing a digital signature that can be used to sign executables and scripts in order to verify your identity and ensure that your code has not been tampered with since it was signed. A code signing certificate allows you to sign code using a private and public key system similar to how an SSL certificate secures a website. When you request a code signing certificate, a public/private key pair is generated. The certificate authority will then issue a code signing certificate that contains the public key. You could still use the code signing certificate to sign and distribute malicious software but you will be held legally accountable for it. You can sign many different types of code.   • DHCP and DNS services configuration for VOIP system, windows domain, etc

    My company has numerous physical offices (for purposes of this discussion, 15 buildings). Some of them are well-connected to our primary data center via fiber. Others will be connected to the data center by P2P T1. We are in the beginning stages of implementing an Avaya VOIP telephone system, and we will be replacing a significant portion of our network infrastructure in the process. In tandem with the phone system implementation, we are going to be re-addressing some of our networks, and consolidating most of our Windows domains into one (not all domains, just most). We currently have quite a few Windows domains, and they of course each have their own DNS zones. A few of those networks currently use DHCP, but the majority use static IP assignments for every device. I'm tired of managing static assignments -- I want to use DHCP configuration on everything except servers. Printers and etc will have DHCP reservations. The new IP phones will need to get IP addresses from DHCP, though they need to be in a separate VLAN from the computers/printers/etc. The computers and printers need to be registered in DNS. That's currently handled by the Windows DHCP servers on each of the respective domains. We need to place a priority on DHCP and DNS being available on a per-site basis (in case something were to interrupt the WAN connection) for computers and (primarily) phones. Smaller locations (which will have IP phones but not be a member of any Windows domain) will not have any Windows DNS/DHCP server(s) available. We also are looking for the easiest way to replace a part if it were to fail. That is to say, if a server/appliance/router hosting DHCP were to crash hard, and we couldn't extremely quickly recover the DHCP reservations and leases (and subsequently restore them onto a cold spare), we anticipate that bad things could happen. What is the best idea for how to re-implement DNS and DHCP keeping all of the above in mind? Some thoughts that have been raised (by myself or my coworkers): Use Windows DNS and DHCP servers, where they exist, and use IP helpers to route DHCP requests to some other Windows server if necessary. May not be acceptable if the WAN goes down and clients don't get a DHCP response. Use Windows DNS (everywhere, over WAN in some cases) and a mix of Windows DHCP and DHCP provided by Cisco routers. Every site would be covered for DHCP, but from what I've read, Cisco routers can't handle dynamic registration of DHCP clients to Windows DNS servers, which might create a problem where Cisco routers are used for DHCP. Use Windows DNS (everywhere, over WAN in some cases) and a mix of Windows DHCP and DHCP provided by some service running on an extremely low-price linux server. Is there any such software that would allow DHCP leases granted by these linux boxes to be dynamically registered on the Windows DNS servers? Come up with a Linux solution for both DNS and DHCP, and deploy low-price linux servers to every site. Requirements would be that the DNS zone be multi-master (like Windows DNS integrated with Active Directory), that DHCP be able to make dynamic DNS registrations in that zone, for every lease (where a hostname is provided and is thus possible), and that multiple servers be either authoritative for the same DHCP scope or at least receiving a real-time copy / replication / sync of the leases table so that if one server dies, we still know which MAC has what address. Purchase dedicated DNS/DHCP appliances, deploying to all sites. From what I read/see, this solves all of our technical problems. Then come the financial problems... I don't have a ton of money to spend on this. Or, some other solution that we've thus far overlooked and will consider upon recommendation. Can Cisco routers or Windows servers sync DHCP lease tables so that multiple servers can be authoritative (or active/passive for all I care) for the same scope, in case one of the partners were to fail? I've read online (repeatedly) that ISC's DHCP is able to maintain the same lease table across multiple servers, in order to solve this problem. Does anyone have any experience or advice to regarding that?
