• Windows 7 Wireless Network Adapter Stopped Working

  I have a Windows 7 Ultimate machine where the wireless adapter all of a sudden started having trouble connecting to wireless networks. Whenever I go to a new place and try to connect to a wireless network, it says that the DNS server is not responding, and tells me to go unplug the router and try again. After several locations in a row telling me this, I began to realize something was wrong with my adapter, not the routers. I am no longer asked to identify the security level for any new networks (Work, Home, or Public) like I used to be (it defaults to Public now - with the park bench icon). Often, resetting the router doesn't even work. Running the Windows 7 troubleshooter doesn't give me anything better than the advice to reset the router. However, the adapter will still connect to the wireless network at my main office without any problems. Does anyone know why a wireless network adapter can get so finicky so suddenly? Thanks!

  EDIT:Just rephrasing the question: Does anyone know how to mute the mic using autohotkey? Here's why I need it: Whenever someone walks in my office I have to pause the media player. Sometimes, when I'm watching a video, I also have to mute the headphone speakers. And if I'm on a skype call I have to mute the mic. I want to assign all those functions to a single hotkey for convienience (probably the "mute" or "play/pause" key) and I'm pretty sure autohotkey can do that, but I don't know how to mute the mic using autohotkey. Plus, I also want to assign all reverse commands (play and unmute) to a single key (could be a different one or the same one). (I don't think it matters, but I'm using windows 7)

  Hi all I have a couple of pages in my site which open in a shadowbox window rather than the main window. My problem is that if the user session expires, then the user clicks on one of the links that open in a shadowbox, they are redirected to the login page INSIDE THE SHADOWBOX, which i don't want. I've been trying to think of the best way to handle this - one way i thought of, which seems a bit clumsy tbh, was on the login page to test if we're in a shadowbox, and if we are then close it and redirect the parent window to the login page. a) does this seem like a sensible plan? I added the following to my login page, which works: $(document).ready(function(){ if(window.parent.location != window.location){ window.parent.location.href = window.location; } } but i have to wait for the shadowbox to finish loading the page and then redirect. • Security measures for CentOS

  I have been tightening up my web server security and wanted to know what else I can do. I am running CentOS 5 with these measures: - All passwords to FTP, MySQL etc are generated from grc.com/passwords.htm and microsoft.com/protect/fraud/passwords/create.aspx (for the ones which cannot be too long). - Running iptables with all ports shut off except for http mail and smtp, the important ports like FTP SSH are blocked to all except my static office IP. There is also no response to pings. - Rootkit Hunter running daily - The server is PCI compliant according to Comodo - Not running any crappy made php apps, we use Zend Framework for our stuff and do have kayako installed and keep them up to date. Can't really think of anything else I can do... I could implement a brute force measure, but I think I already have by simply changing my SSH port to a number above 10000 and blocking it off with iptables.

  I have been messing with Open Graph for hours and can't figure out why Facebook still wont let me show an image when I share a link to a new site I just launched. Even sites I built 5 years ago that have no clue of Open Graph show images so I have no idea why this new site wont allow it. I just need to launch this site and every time I post the url in my status update only text appears. I re sized the image to be 200px x 135px but that still doesn't work..   How can one block, or severely slow down, BitTorrent and similar peer-to-peer (P2P) services on one's small home/office network? In searching Server Fault I wasn't able to find a question that served as a rallying point for the best technical ideas on this. The existing questions are all about specific situations, and the dominant answers are social/legal in nature. Those are valid approaches, but a purely technical discussion would be useful to a lot of people, I suspect. Let's assume that you don't have access to the machines on the network. With encryption use increasing in P2P traffic, it seems like stateful packet inspection is becoming a less workable solution. One idea that seems to make sense to me is simply throttling down heavy users by IP, regardless of what they're sending or receiving -- but it doesn't seem many routers support that functionality at the moment. What's your preferred method to throttle P2P/BitTorrent traffic? My apologies if this is a dupe.

• Internet access only works after turning off and on the local connection

  Every time I turn on the computer, it has no internet access. The network card is connected to a router which broadcasts the internet all over the office LAN. Once I turn off and then on the local connection (or network card), the internet access works. Rebooting and logging out/in again does not help. Only the turning off and on the network card gives me internet access. Why is that? How do I fix it?

  I'm trying to figure out Puppet (3.0) and how it relates to built-in Hiera. EDIT: I just left the office but a thought struck me: I should probably restart puppet master so it can see the new hiera.conf. • WindowStartupLocation.CenterScreen is opening my window on the wrong display

  According to the documentation, CenterScreen should open the window in the center of the screen that contains the mouse cursor, however this is not happening. I have a dual monitor setup, with my secondary monitor appearing to the left of my primary monitor (the one with the task bar). When the user clicks a link in my interface on the primary (right-most) monitor, and I open a new window with WindowStartupLocation set to CenterScreen, the window appears in the center of the screen of the left monitor. This is not where the mouse is and I am lost as to why it is picking that display. Has anyone experienced this before or have any ideas for a workaround? If I can't get the proper behavior using WindowStartupLocation, I will just manually move the window to the proper display (I still have to figure that out though).

• Can I increase the link speed of the RAS Server on our MS Win2k3 box?

  We are running a Win2K3 Server box, and I'm a remote employee that connects via VPN. I've been frustrated for some time by the connection speed over the VPN (the office HQ has a decent speed and I have a biz class connection here), and decided to do some checking today. This morning, I was dialed in and looked at the networking tab of the task manager, and I see that the adapter for the RAS Server (the box has 4 Gigabit adapters) has a speed that seems far too low. The speed for the RAS Server link hovers between 300 - 600 Kbps. The local connection (and others) all say 1 Gbps. Can I set this to a higher speed? Is this information accurate? • Recommending simple appliance for DansGuardian, iptables, snort inline
