  I am the developer of the website named viewloud Now as my website is getting around 100 visitors per day so i was thinking that i should put some ads on my website but it is really very hard to find the best advertising plan which can benefit me the most. Google adsence . Is it a good choice ? Will google adsence allow me to open a account there with such little traffic on my website. ? • session indicator icon goes wrong after I upgrade to 12.10

  I upgraded my 12.04 to 12.10 yesterday, everything goes fine. But I found the little gear icon of session indicator was show incorrectly. I've re-installed the indicator-session package and changed to default theme but the problem remains. It's not a big problem but it is just annoying, hope you guys can help me! oops! • A proper file monitoring tool for Windows with notifications

  Developing in PHP, I'm usually confronted with various log files: apache, web apps, error logs etc. I'm currently using Notepad++ with the option to notify me when a file has changed. But when I need to monitor many files, I end up with too many tabs opened. I've used some of these, but they were lacking some basic stuff (like double clicking on the file to open it; oh, c'mon). What do you guys use for monitoring file changes? I needn't be "modern" or fancy. Just a simple "Hey, this file was changed. Here, click on it to open". (Maybe I'll end up making one myself, but I need to learn some more Java).

  My apologies if this is off-topic, I thought this question suits this site better than stackoverflow. We have a few rather small and bounded problems in my company that we would love to outsource. Since they are very similar to challenges ("prove this and this can be done" rather than "supply the code"), we thought of posting them as challenges and offer prizes to the first guys who will crack them up. The outsourcing sites I know off (TopCoder, ODesk) are more interested in long term contracts with monthly pay. Is there a site better matching my needs out there?

  Hi friends I am not able to connect my broadband connection with ubuntu and it doesnt work. The connection works fine when I use Windows7 but when i use ubuntu I am not able to access the internet. I followed various steps mentioned in various sites and still could not find a solution. I have installed ubuntu 8.04 in my system. The interface eth0 is not at all detected and when i use the menu system-administrator-network I am not getting an option for wired connection. Just the WIreless connection and Point to Point connection tabs are available.. It's really urgent.. I'll be very happy if u guys can propose to me a working solution to deal with this problem.. • Impact of migrating home page from http to https on search results

  Guys - I've just had to change one of my site's home page to https from http. I had plenty links coming into the http page and was performing well in Google against many of my targeted search phrases. I did a 301 redirect from the http page to transfer the link juice to the https page (and to prevent duplicate content issues), but my search rankings have tanked which indicates no link juice has been transferred. My PR has vanished - which I'd expect - but I'm really surprised that the SERP rankings fell off the face of the earth. Anyone have any ideas how I can recover this. I've waited a couple of months since the changes took effect just in case Google was taking time to check it out.

• Encrypted usb stick not booting anymore how can I resolve the Disaster

  Guys I am experiencing massive problem here. I created a bootable usb stick that I "full disk" encrypted with Ubuntu 13.04. I was using it when it froze. I had to reboot it manually and now I cannot boot on it anymore (It is not listed in the boot menu anymore) If I put when I run Ubuntu on my laptop ubuntu can see it and I am asked for a password But the correct password does not seem to work (I assume that this passphrase is the one I was using previously at startup) Can you please help me figure this thing out, this is massive problem to me...

• Is it a good idea to always use Google as the first step to solving a problem? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Importance of learning to google efficiently for a programmer? Avoiding lengthy discussions, as a senior level student in CS, how can I get away from Googling problems I run into? I find myself using it too much; I seemingly reach for the instant answer and then blindly copy and paste code, hoping it works. Anyone can do that. I've read the related threads about being a better programmer, but mostly those recommend practicing on pet projects, which I have done, but again I feel EVERY wall encountered, from design through completion, was hurdled with Google. Do professionals instantly "research" their problem? Or do you guys step back and try and figure it out yourselves? I'm talking about both 'algorithm/design' problems as well as compiler issues.

• Minecraft program frame rate is very slow

  I have recently downloaded Minecraft to Ubuntu 12.04. It launches and plays successfully, however- the frame rates for the game are extremely slow. They never go past 9 fps and usually drop below 3 fps. I have been a Windows XP user for years and have just recently switched to Ubuntu, so I'm not an expert with this OS. My video card is a Diamond Stealth s60 with Radeon 7000. I don't know what other information you guys need but if you ask for it, and would please tell me how to get to it, I will tell you as soon as I can. Thanks for your help.

• What is the best freeware app for Windows to mount EXT4 partitions (from a GPT 4TB Disk) as RW, safely without corrupting the EXT4 partition?

  My Computer is set up as Dualboot Windows and Ubuntu. I have 1 OS drive, and 1 hard drive with a /backup partition (which has all my family photos and data) and it is ext4. Also note... it is EXT4, and it is GPT, and it is 4TB size. Anyway, Windows can not mount the /backup ext4 partition. What software/freeware do you reccomend for Windows? Preferrably looking for someone with experiance using it for a long time and not have problems with EXT4 partition which is a 4TB, GPT Disk. Thank you for your advice and guidance! • What steps should be taken to ensure that an open source database gets ready for production?

  I am considering using GridSQL in a production environment. However, I do have some indications that it is not ready. One is that it got excluded by the offering of EnterpriseDB a while ago, and the forums seem to report a few wrong results and relatively severe bugs. The alternatives to GridSQL, however cost around 100.000$ to buy, so I was thinking to utilize some of this money to ensure that GridSQL gets ready for production. At the same time, I could risk spending 50.000$ and months of work on the development of GridSQL, just to discover that the design was flawed and that a complete rewrite is needed. Then I would have to buy the commercial alternatives to GridSQL and the existence of my startup would be at risk. Question What steps would you take to ensure that there is as little risk as possible that the worst case scenario described above would happen? It is unrealistic that I could do much testing nor code review/coding myself (I am also not the best developer), so please describe where to find the guys that would need to do the work.

Now thinking about my graphists and game designers, they need to have a slightly different approach I think. They need to share binary files They need to be able to have a thumbnail and preview of their work I don't want to include their binaries into my game repository (would be much too heavy for developer when updating) I've seen that some graphists uses personally created website to share their work but I was wondering if some "standard" application existed in order to provide my graphists a cool way of working together. Is there a common way of dealing with this? Is the way I want to do (only final sprites on my game repo) correct? How do you guys do this as game developers?

• Cannot connect to wifi after downloading 12.04, repeated prompts for password

  I have had this OS for a little bit but this is my first upgrade and my first issue I am trying to deal with without my buddy who got my on Ubuntu in the first place (who is on the other side of the country.) I am running an IBM Lenovo T400 Thinkpad that had 11.10 on it and worked flawless. I upgraded to 12.04 a few weeks back and I have not been able to connect to the wifi in my home or anywhere for that matter. I have been trying to mess with it through reading the forums and am not quite sure what my problem is. I am running off of Fios Internet and the wifi keep disconnecting and prompts me to retype the password for reconnecting. If you guys could give me a step by step process of how I should go about fixing this I would GREATLY appreciate it!

• Is there a ppa or repository where we can update LibreOffice to version 3.6?

  On http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ there is only RPM version - when great majority of Desktop Linux users are using systems based on APT... ppa:libreoffice/ppa seems to be very outdated with version 3.5 It's frustating to see several fixes on Windows version and Ubuntu versions so outdated... People generally reply as: we don't update due to security/stability reasons, etc example 1 example 2 why don't you compile yourself ? For those easy answers, I generally reply: let me decide which version to use at my own risk. I just want to try a newer version and I trust on LibreOffice devs. I understand that update a core lib is very dangerous but Libreoffice is an user application and it don't just break the whole system. Why don't I compile ? Because I am a regular user and don't have time to learn it. I would love to have this time but unfortunately, I don't have. Red Hat/Fedora guys have the same concerns but they update their LibreOffices...

• LXDE will not suspend when laptop lid is closed, and will die when woken up

  I am not an experienced Linux user, although I have been using Ubuntu occassionally some time already. ( Since Feisty Fawn probably? ). Now I installed Ubuntu 11.10 and it is nice ( well, after I installed LXDE, Unity sucks and I didn't really like gnome-fallback-session ), but it has one problem: After being suspended, when I wake my computer up, it starts up and in about 5 seconds it dies. Like a normal shutdown. Then, when I start it again, the screen stays blank, so I have to hard-turn it off - only then, when I turn it on, it works. It is an MSI laptop, about 3-4 years old. The second problem is: After installing LXDE, when I close the laptop lid, it does not suspend. I can only suspend using the shutdown menu - and the waking up problem remains. • How do developers find the time to stay on top of latest technologies?

  I was a freelance web developer until circa 2004 when I started going down the management route but have decided to try to get back into development again (specifically JavaScript and HTML5 web/mobile web apps) and I really get the impression to be truly good at these and similar fast moving technologies a constant amount of time is required to be set aside to invest in getting better at existing skills in addition to learning new skills. I understand right now since I am getting back into things there is a pretty steep learning curve, but seeing how good many guys are out there - the only way I see of getting up there is putting in a serious amount of time. For those working as fulltime developers, what I am trying to understand is this - on most days, how much time in the office is spent actually grinding out code compared to learning/research. I could easily spend 2-4 hours daily getting on top of the best ways to go about doing things. Do most good developers who are employed full time invest significant hours outside of work sharpening their skills? Or maybe I'm looking at all of this completely wrong?
