    I have a local network topology that is structured as follows: three hosts and a switch in the middle. I am using a switch that supports 10,100,1000 Mbit/s full/half duplex connection. I have configured the hosts with a static ip 172.16.0.1-2-3/25. Since the three links have the same forced capability and the amount of arrving data speed is 10 from H1+10 from H2--20M to H3 it would be expected a bottleneck effect and, due to the non reliable nature of udp, a packet loss.     I've two ASAs 5515 connected in failover Active/Stand by (on Gi0/5) My two ASAs are connected to two Switch ProCurve 2920 to have HA if something happens. BUT this is not working... I tried many things and I can't make it work. In this configuration, I can't ping anything between my ASA and my Switch (or any object connected).     I am using a Cisco 6500 series with an SSO redundancy configuration. The show redundancy output is as follows: Hardware Mode = Duplex Configured Redundancy Mode = sso Operating Redundancy Mode = rpr Maintenance Mode = Disabled Communications = Up I would assume the device is operating in RPR mode although SSO is configured. What could cause this? Shouldn't the operating mode be SSO?   • IPv6 routing to another interface

    I'm trying to get an IPv6 enabled router to forward data from one interface to the other and I'm having issues. When following this example (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk872/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080ba6106.shtml) I am able to get full connectivity between all 3 routers in my simulator. However when I try to use only 1 router; I can't get connectivity to the other interfacs on the same router. My PC is directly attached to FA 0/1 and it can ping the router's interface. However it can not ping any other interface on the router(which unless I'm missing something it should be able to do). The router on the other hand can ping everything. I thought static routes might help; but the router already has routes for everything. I'm thinking the packet should come in; router looks up the destination in it's ipv6 routing table and then realizes it's for itself, and should respond. I thought maybe it couldn't respond directly; so I tried pinging a device like 2001:0000:0000:1000::2, but i don't get a response. I'm running on IOS 12.4. I'm missing something(hopefully simple), but I just can't see what it is. With only 1 router; how do I enable my PC to talk to the other subnets?   • How do I manage the technical debate over WCF vs. Web API?

    I'm managing a team of like 15 developers now, and we are stuck at a point on choosing the technology, where the team is broken into two completely opposite teams, debating over usage of WCF vs. Web API. Team A which supports usage of Web API, brings forward these reasons: Web API is just the modern way of writing services (Wikipedia) WCF is an overhead for HTTP. It's a solution for TCP, and Net Pipes, and other protocols WCF models are not POCO, because of [DataContract] & [DataMember] and those attributes SOAP is not as readable and handy as JSON SOAP is an overhead for network compared to JSON (transport over HTTP) No method overloading Team B which supports the usage of WCF, says: WCF supports multiple protocols (via configuration) WCF supports distributed transactions Many good examples and success stories exist for WCF (while Web API is still young) Duplex is excellent for two-way communication This debate is continuing, and I don't know what to do now. Personally, I think that we should use a tool only for its right place of usage. In other words, we'd better use Web API, if we want to expose a service over HTTP, but use WCF when it comes to TCP and Duplex. By searching the Internet, we can't get to a solid result. Many posts exist for supporting WCF, but on the contrary we also find people complaint about it. I know that the nature of this question might sound arguable, but we need some good hints to decide. We're stuck at a point where choosing a technology by chance might make us regret it later. We want to choose with open eyes. Our usage would be mostly for web, and we would expose our services over HTTP. In some cases (say 5 to 10 percent) we might need distributed transactions though. What should I do now? How do I manage this debate in a constructive way?

    This is an HP TouchSmart 320, model number 320-1200m. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04. I have installed Windows, and with Windows 7 installed, all audio hardware works properly, so this isn't a hardware fault. I've looked at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto and have been unable to find my card in http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt . I have tried adding almost every conceivable model in the line "options snd-hda-intel model=MODEL" line I added to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. Update 2011-11-09 2:31 PM PST: I've gone to Control Center - Sound Preferences to attempt settings that make sound work. The "Hardware" tab shows one device: "Internal Audio 1 Output / 1 Input Analog Stereo Duplex." There are two output profiles listed in the selection box at the bottom of the tag: Analog Stereo Duplex and Analog Stereo Output. Neither cause sound to emit from the speakers. I've also run alsamixer on the command-line and ensured that everything is set to maximum and nothing is muted. Update 2011-11-09 5:15 PM PST: I've replicated the exact same symptoms in 11.10.   • PDFs and Networked Printers

    Weird issue. We have users printing to networked windows-shared printers (print server Win2003 sp2). Some users have been reporting recently that they can't print PDF documents to particular printers (two example printers are HP 2430 PCL 6 driver and 4250 PCL 6 driver). At first, we found that on many of these systems the "Everyone" object was added to the permissions for the root of the C: volume but had no permissions checked. We added modify privileges to it (these are Deep-Freeze systems, so modifications to these systems that we don't add as administrators won't matter) and they seemed to be able to print. Perhaps Acrobat Reader was writing a temp file for printing where users didn't have permission, we surmised, and made the change and moved on. Yesterday the user called in saying it's not working still. Looked at it; bring up a PDF, click Print and the reader app says that you have to install a printer. Look at the printers folder (Windows XP workstation), and it has printers installed. Print a test page, return to AcroReader, and it will print fine to that printer. The whole time web pages, MS Office documents, etc. print without issue to the same printers. Has anyone seen this issue with Acro Reader 9 and certain network printer drivers or shares involving HP printers? I'd post this to SuperUser but it seems to be associated with a networked printer issue, seems to affect subsets of users but may be more widespread and our users aren't reporting it to us assuming we just know about it, and I've not found rhyme or reason as to why it's affecting just PDF printing and particular printers. The print spoolers are all running on the workstations and print server without errors being logged so far, but I'm going through the logs now to see if I can find anything out of place.

Important to understand that the print failure only happens in certain circumstances: Note: We use a standard Windows printer selection box to choose the printer Terms used Superbase = a program language that uses ntvdm.exe (Windows process hosting 16 bit apps) Local Printer = printing to a driver loaded onto the Server 2008 Redirect Printer = printing to a automatically established remote printer through an RDP connection Printing Scenarios Server 2008 - 1: Print from notepad to a Redirected Printer = works Server 2008 - 2: Print from Superbase to a Local Printer = works Server 2008 - 3: Print from Superbase to a Redirected Printer = fail Server 2003 - 4: Print from Superbase to a Redirected Printer = works Results The print causes a message in the drivers print queue of Local Downlevel Document, no print though and Superbase recognises that the "Print command failed". Eventvwr has no related issues to the print fail Any help greatly appreciated. So far 2 days spent trying to resolve and here goes my weekend :( unless someone has an idea :) Things I have Tried i.     Hi, I am having trouble with an cups installation. It seems to be in a broken state. When i try to reinstall it it stalls, the same if i try to remove it completely. I am running the server version 64 bit of Ubuntu 10.10 with kernel Linux version 2.6.35-22-server. When i try to start the cups daemon with the following command sudo service cups start It just stays there and nothing happens. I have tried to remove it, to be able to reinstall it, with the following command sudo apt-get purge cups It finally stalls with the following message Removing cups ... After that nothing happens.     Recently, my Internet slowed down drastically. I downloaded a tool to see the TCP/IP connections from my Vista computer. I found out that a lot TCP/IP connections are being connected to 212.192.255.240 through SVCHost. It seems that it is trying to connect to different ports. I think that my computer is being infected with some kind of malware etc. But I am not sure how to get rid of it. I did a little bit of research on this IP but found nothing.   • Trying to configure HWIC-3G-HSPA

    I'm trying to configure a couple of Cisco 1941 routes. The are both identical routers. Each as a HWIC-1T (Smart Serial interface) and a HWIC-3G-HSPA 3G interface. These routers are to be sent to remote sites. We have connectivity to one of the sites but if remote site A gors down we lose connectivity to remote site B. The HWIC-1T is the primary WAN interface using frame relay joining the two remote sites We want the HWIC-3G-HSPA to be usable for direct connectivity from head office to remote site B, and also the HWIC-3G-HSPA is do be used for comms between the remote sites when the frame relay is down (happens quite a bit). I initialy tried to do dynamic routing using EIGRP however in my lab setup of laptop - 1941 - 1941 - laptop, I was unable to get end to end connectivity. I later settled on static routing and have got end to end connectivity but only over frame relay, not the HWIC-3G-HSPA. I've tried using kron to ping the local HWIC-3G-HSPA interface (cellular 0/1/0) every minute but that hasn't been successful. Manually pinging the IP assigned (by the telco) to ce0/1/0 does bring the interface up. Any ideas? Thanks

Before making any calls to the server I want to check the state of the proxy object created from the channel factory. I saw this in a book... (to be used in immediate window) ? ((ICommunicationObject)flsProxy).State But it gave this exception... Cannot obtain fields or call methods on the instance of type 'System.ServiceModel.ICommunicationObject' because it is a proxy to a remote object. Would be grateful for any ideas how this can be tested, or is it better to just catch exceptions. Thanks.

  • 12.04 Unity 3D Not working where as Unity 2D works fine

    I updated from 11.10 to 12.04 using the distribution upgrade, after that I couldn't log into using the Unity 3D desktop after logging in I would either never get unity's launcher or I would get the launcher and once I tried to do anything the windows lost their decoration and nothing would respond. If I use Unity 2D it works fine and in fact I'm using it to type this.     I updated from 11.10 to 12.04 using the distribution upgrade, after that I couldn't log into using the Unity 3D desktop after logging in I would either never get unity's launcher or I would get the launcher and once I tried to do anything the windows lost their decoration and nothing would respond. If I use Unity 2D it works fine and in fact I'm using it to type this.   • Silverlight Vs. WPF Vs. Winforms What is good for specifically my purpose?

    I am about to start a new Windows applications and the contenders for the platform are: Windows Forms WPF Silverlight Now my experience with WPF at least in my last application was not very encouraging (the app failed to run on the deployment machines and I had to re-do it in Winforms). So my confidence is shaken here. My app is for mass-distribution (the last version had some 100,000+ installations). So I want to make absolutely sure that my users will be able to use it and enjoy it without any problems. I would love to create a nice interface, going the next step like a Flex or Silverlight, iPhone app, with animations and effects. So I would really like to go with WPF or Silverlight if I can. My needs are Good support for visuals and animation effects. Support for database connectivity. Support for printing (Is there an equivalent of PrintDocument in Silverlight) Must not suffer from deployment troubles. Silverlight is universal, but does it have printing support and good controls toolset? WPF has printing support and a nice toolset, but can I depend on it? Winforms is dated already and is not so impressive, but should I go with it anyway? Your advice would be appreciated

  • Storing high precision latitude/longitude numbers in iOS Core Data

    I'm trying to store Latitude/Longitudes in core data. These end up being anywhere from 6-20 digit precision. And for whatever reason, i had them as floats in Core Data, its rounding them and not giving me the exact values back. I tried "decimal" type, with no luck either. Are NSStrings my only other option?
