I checked crontab for scheduled tasks, there is nothing in there but still these rules appear every minute... please help!

  There were a lot of announcements made during the keynote at MIX10 today, most notable were the releases of Silverlight 4 RC, Silverlight 4 Tools for Visual Studio 2010, Expression Blend 4 Beta and the Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools.  I was glad to see that developers will be able to use Silverlight to create awesome applications for Windows Phone 7 so we can reuse our WPF and Silverlight skills to target mobile devices!   hi all, yesterday on a computer of a friend a strange thing happened. after booting the ports fo http, https and ftp are closed but e-mail is still working. in the control panel the windows firewall seems active even if he tries to deactivate it. i have a suspision that it is the faul of norton internet security 2010, we have tried to uninstall it, but the uninstallation did not work. when using the removal tool from symantec it just goes to 23% and then it crashes. the process ccSvcHst.exe is still running. how can i safeley remove the rest of norton internet security? thanks in advance [edit] norton internet security 2010 is sucesfully removed, but still no connectivity

  So tonight this convo happened: Intrigued, I viewed the video Lee mentions and found that its the now infamous Brent Ozar video which shows a bug in Word on the Surface RT (you can read this article which talks about the tempest in a teacup that ensued). But Lee is correct – in the video, when Brent starts up Word 2013, we see this: That sure does look like a desktop doesn’t it! But…aren’t Windows RT devices *not* supposed to come with a desktop? Actually, it does. However, it’s not a *full* desktop. From Seth Rosenblatt’s fantastic Windows RT FAQ article: Windows RT will have a Desktop mode, but it will be restricted to pre-installed, Microsoft-produced software. This will include touch-optimized versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote as the new Microsoft Office So yes, there’s a desktop mode in Windows RT but no, you won’t be able to install apps to it. Some observations we've made with resource scheduling/booking are: Outlook 2010 users have trouble with the native Exchange 2003 resource scheduling method and require direct booking to be configured via registry Outlook 2007 users are unable to use direct booking (is this accurate?) Outlook 2003 users can only use the native Exchange 2003 resource scheduling method (is this accurate?)   I have been advise by Commvault partner support to turn off the backup of the master database as the backup failed due to the log file being lock. The following is the advise given: "The message is caused by Commvault’s inability to backup the master database’s transaction log. If this is happening intermittently its possible that something is locking the transaction log, preventing SQL iData agent from accessing the log.   Hello we just upgraded from exchange 2003 to 2010. 2010 seems to be pushing people to stop using public folders. Public folders had the nice feature that you could see the contacts of the public folder in your address book. I haven't found a way to add shared contacts to the Outlook address book. How do you do it? If I am unable to find the solution I will likely have to go through the hassle of migrating the public folders over. I was having a problem with that so I went the route of shared contacts.

  My group and I are working on a game in XNA 4.0 with Visual Studio 2010/2012. The main solution has 6 projects: 2 XNA game projects (1 executable/ 1 class library), 1 WPF executable for the level editor, 2 standard class libraries, and a content project. Originally, the editor and engine XNA game projects had a content reference to separate content projects. Recently, I consolidated the content projects into one to simplify asset additions. Since pushing these changes to our git repo, certain members of my group have been experiencing weird build issues. Every time they run the project, they have to re-build all of the assets. This happens regardless of whether any changes were made, even if they just run the project directly after building. I've taken a few steps to figure out why this is happening.   Hi, The server was upgraded from 10.5 from 10.6, during the upgrade the Reverse Zones were lost so I tried to recreate these but found that it's best to delete all zones, definitions and start again. So I've started again and Reverse Zones are appearing but I'm still having issues. • How can I debug user mode driver failures in Windows 8

  I have a 32 GB SD Card. Whenever I insert this card in to my newly upgraded Windows 8 laptop the OS stops responding normally. Metro Apps won't work. The system may or may not log in. Desktop apps may or may not be able to do things. When I remove the card and restart then all is fine. As soon as I put the card back in, the system starts misbehaving again. I've run Windows Update, so I have the latest drivers from Microsoft. This does not occur with the 8 GB cards I have. Unfortunately I only have one 32 GB card, so I can't test with others. From examining the system event log I've determined this is happening due to a user mode driver failure. How can I best debug this issue from here? How can I figure out which driver this is related to? Will there be a Dr. Watson crash dump somewhere? • Management Reporter Installation – Lessons Learned Part II - Dynamics GP

  After feeling pretty good about my deployment skills of Management Reporter for Dynamics GP a few weeks ago, I ran into two additional lessons learned that I wanted to share. First, on another new deployment, I got the error shown below which says “An error occurred while creating the database.  View the installation log for additional information.”  This problem initially pointed me to KB 2406948 which did not provide resolution. After several hours of troubleshooting, I found there is an issue if the defaults database locations in SQL Server are set to the root of a drive. You will want to set the default to something like the following to get it installed; C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA.  My default database locations for the data and log files were indeed sitting on the H:\ and I:\ drives. To change this property in your SQL Server Instance you need to open SQL Server Management Studio, right click on the server, and choose properties and then database settings. When I initially got the error, I briefly considered creating the ManagementReporter database by hand, but experience tells me that would have created more headaches down the road. The second problem I ran into with this particular deployment of Management Reporter happened when I started the FRx conversion utility.  The errors reads “The ‘Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0’ provider is not registered on the local machine. I had a suspicion that this error was related to the fact FRx uses outdated technology and I happened to be on a new install of Server 2008 R2.  A knowledge base search quickly pointed me to KB 2102486. The resolution for this Management Reporter issue was to install the Microsoft Access Database Engine Redistributable, by following the site below. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C06B8369-60DD-4B64-A44B-84B371EDE16D&displaylang=en

  I am trying to understand why my production environment might be disallowing HTTP RANGE requests. I have a pool of W2K8x64/IIS7 servers behind a pair of Netscaler 9000s. I compose the following request in Fiddler: http://myorigin.example.com/file.flv User-Agent: Fiddler Host: myorigin.example.com Range: bytes=40000-60000 The response looks like: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Cache-Control: public Content-Type: video/x-flv Expires: Thu, 24 Jun 2010 18:23:53 GMT Last-Modified: Sat, 11 Apr 2009 00:16:14 GMT Accept-Ranges: none ETag: f9d5c718-e148-4225-9ca6-d1f91a2a3c08-_633749805744270000 Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.0 Edge-Control: max-age=2592000 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Date: Tue, 25 May 2010 18:23:53 GMT Content-Length: 443668 "Accept-Ranges: none" tells me that the range request was rejected, but I am not sure where/why as IIS7 accepts Range by default. • The lifecycle of "cool"

  I've been thinking lately about how some programming projects/products become "cool," and in particular, how that trend can later reverse. Here are two examples that might better explain my context: Textmate Whenever someone asks about text editors on OS X, the answer on the SE sites is an automatic "Textmate!" But looked at objectively: Textmate 1.0 shipped October 2004 Textmate 1.5 shipped January 2006 Textmate 2 was announced February 2006 As of September 2010, the currently shipping version is 1.5.9 In all of 2010, there have been a total of three posts on the Textmate blog At what point (if ever) do Textmate fans start thinking about switching to another text editor? When it breaks after some future Apple update? When alpha geeks they respect start recommending something else? Or? jQuery Whenever a JavaScript-related question is asked on the SE sites, the knee-jerk response is "jQuery!" I've seen it happen even when the question itself only required a single line of JavaScript. Or when the question could be better answered by using CSS. Do the answerers understand they're suggesting a blowtorch to light a candle? That they're recommending adding 70K or so of code to do something trivial? Or is it a symptom of "When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail"—that is, jQuery is all they know how to do, so that's their recommendation? And do they understand that while they may know jQuery well, that doesn't necessarily mean that they know JavaScript? Is there a way to explain that learning JavaScript would make them better jQuery programmers? My bigger-picture questions: Is this niche focus primarily a trait of programmers? How do you get programmers to not immediately jump to recommending their personal favorites? What can motivate programmers to review their initial selection criteria and possibly modify their choice? Your thoughts?

• ASP.NET MVC 2 Hosting :: MVC2 deploy - Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.MVC, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies.

  A new MVC 2 project worked on my local machine but when it was deployed to the test server it gave the error 'Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Mvc, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies.' I have the full Visual Studio 2010 installed on my local machine but just the .NET 4 framework installed on the test servers. It seems the MVC assemblies do not come with .NET 4 framework itself so how to make MVC 2 work on the test servers? When I installed Visual Studio 2010 on my local machine it came with all the fruit included (.NET4 framework, MVC2 etc) so the System.Web.Mvc.dll can be found in my machine's GAC (C:\Windows\assembly). However, since there is no need to bloat the web servers only the plain old .NET4 framework has been installed on the test servers. This does NOT include the MVC assembly and that is why it cannot be found by the web application. You need this assembly to be on your web servers that you are deploying to but you want to avoid having to copy them into the GAC manually and doing all that gacutil mess or maybe you don't have access to your servers if they are hosted by provider. Solution You need to make the System.Web.Mvc assembly bin deployable... okay that doesn't sound easy but here is how to do it for the necessary MVC references: Simply right click the reference and select 'Properties' Then change 'Copy Local' to 'True': Note If your server has .NET 3.5 sp1 installed the new(ish) assemblies System.Web.Routing and System.Web.Abstractions will already be in the GAC. If you had previously deployed an MVC 1 application to a .NET 3.5 server you may remember having to deploy the other two assemblies too. Since MVC2 requires at least .NET 3.5 sp1 you will not need to worry about these assemblies, just System.Web.Mvc

• Researching runtime technologies (Xmas fun with HTML5)

  The Internet Explorer 9.0 team just posted about Pirates love Daises. This is a showcase game for the power of HTML 5 running inside IE 9.0 – and the author has done a fantastic job (you can get more details from Grant’s blog post). A game developer is an ISV (Independent Software Vendor) – a B2C  ISV. In my role I don’t (typically) work with B2C ISVs, hence a reasonable question is “Why blog about it?”. I think applications like this demonstrate the power of HTML 5 and IE9 for delivering really rich user experiences which have the promise of working cross browser and cross platform - in the future as HTML5 capable browsers become the norm. Microsoft is investing heavily in implementing a great “run time” in IE9 if cross platform is an important requirement for your UX. And the other reason for blogging this… it is nearly Xmas and we all should be having a little more fun on the run in. • Win 2008 single server development environment (architecture)

  I have a few questions about a test development environment that I’m setting up on this server: Intel Core i7-920 Quadcode incl. Hyper Threading 8 GB DDR3 RAM 2x 750 GB SATA-II (probably software RAID 1) The server is going to support max 5 users, maybe 10 when stressed. I was hoping that I could run all the following products on the same server: Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 w/ IIS SQL Server 2008 x64 (R2 when released) Team Foundation Server 2010 Sharepoint Foundation 2010 I know this sounds overkill, but remember that this is for development purpose and testing. This is not a production environment. My question if this will be possible at all? Should I run it all on one Windows 2008 installation, or should I run it in multiple virtual environments using Hyper-V? What do you think?

• C# Adds Optional and Named Arguments

  Earlier this month Microsoft released Visual Studio 2010, the .NET Framework 4.0 (which includes ASP.NET 4.0), and new versions of their core programming languages: C# 4.0 and Visual Basic 10. In designing the latest versions of C# and VB, Microsoft has worked to bring the two languages into closer parity. Certain features available in C# were missing in VB, and vice-a-versa. Last week I wrote about Visual Basic 2010's language enhancements, which include implicit line continuation, auto-implemented properties, and collection initializers - three useful features that were available in previous versions of C#. Similarly, C# 4.0 introduces new features to the C# programming language that were available in earlier versions of Visual Basic, namely optional arguments and named arguments. Optional arguments allow developers to specify default values for one or more arguments to a method. When calling such a method, these optional arguments may be omitted, in which case their default value is used. In a nutshell, optional arguments allow for a more terse syntax for method overloading. Named arguments, on the other hand, improve readability by allowing developers to indicate the name of an argument (along with its value) when calling a method.
